Ravens Eying Marshall Again?

"The Ravens need a real receiver; they always have," one league source said. "They got by last season with Mason and [Mark] Clayton because the running game was good and the defense was awesome. It was the usual formula. But they have to get somebody in there or the window is going to close on the [Ray] Lewis Era.

"Plus, they have to help out [second-year quarterback Joe] Flacco."
Let's hope they get this done. Marshall wants out and we need him badly, it would be a perfect fit.

the story itself says its unlikey to happen so dont even get the slightest of hopes. Besides, what we'd end up giving up for him would probably be too much... Unless the Broncos want John Beck, Drew Bennet(ya I know) and a 3rd rounder.

Sounds like it could just be speculation to me.
Sounds like information that any of us fans could have come up with. It's really not hard to put 2 and 2 together and know that Marshall is unhappy and the Ravens need a WR.

However the bottomline is that the Broncos hold all the cards. They will not trade Marshall for cheat. They will not trade him just because we are in deseperate need of a WR. They won't trade him just because he seems to want to be a Raven.

There will proabably be reports of the Ravens eying Marshall from now until week 6. Until it(IF) actually happens talkin about it is pointless imo, because the same things will just be said over and over.

Marshall is a beast
Marshall is trash
Marshall would make us Superbowl contenders
Marshall is a cancer
Marshall is trouble
Marshall is a Stud
Marshall would cost too much

What else is new? We seem to be eyeing every available wr there is according to the media and if we dont get a "real" wr, we are going to suck. This is typical media banter.

Exactly... besides, Demetrius looks A LOT stronger and tougher this season; I think he's ready to step up his game and be that deep threat we need, with or without Mason.

I'd like to see Marshall in purple and black, but not for a 1st Round pick (or more), but I am not going to continue to speculate. What happens, happens, and I will stand behind our WR corp no matter who's out there.

I really hope that is the case, however lets give it a full training camp for both Williams and Clayton before we decide how they look in the offense. But yes he does look bigger and stronger this year.

Can someone crunch the numbers?

Is the cap space even there? I know we have a few players we could release (Walker, etc.) to open up some cap room and Suggs' deal put a few million back in the pot. Forget character issues for a second, In Harbaughs presser yesterday he said the Ravens were evaluating many FA's, even Vick and Matt Jones, both of which committed more serious offenses. So I think Marshall's run ins with the law may be a more serious concern for some fans and not the Ravens FO. If we are able to sign him then this team definitely looks like a serious contender. Just imagine if D Wills can stay healthy then Joe has Marshall, Williams, Clayton, Marcus Smith, Heap, and LJ Smith to throw too! The DB's are DEEP, the D line is DEEP, the O Line looks good, and Flacco has become a true leader.

But yes, before I get ahead of myself, is the money there? Could we make room for a long term contract?

They don't need any receivers (from us anyway). The most likely scenario would be sending over a draft pick for 2010, maybe a 1st or a 2nd round pick, because they traded their 2010 1st round pick to some other team (for that corner they drafted in the 2nd round).

And then of course you have all the 3-4 guys they could use for their new defense. Kelly Gregg, Bannan, McKinley, Edwards, JJ etc..

Suggs will only make 5 mil. this season instead of the 11 he would have made under the franchise tag, that's more than enough to fit Marshall in. Derrick Mason just retired (i guess), so that's another 3 mil. Also Suggs' deal is front loaded, all we have to do is backload Marshall's contract. Then you add in a big signing bonus and a roster bonus (doesn't count against the cap) at some point to make sure he doesn't have to wait 4-5-6 years before he gets paid like an All Pro and that should be it. I think.

That's pretty funny, I can't believe how arrogant that person is. Just thinking that marshall is worth more than Ed is stupid. Anyway let marshall stay there, I believe that when the protection is there for Joe, that he will get ball to someone out there. I just hope that Oher can protect that right side so that Heap and LJ can go out there. Instead of staying in and block. I think that when you have Mark, DWill, Heap and LJ running routes at the same time, that you don't need marshall.

I'm not going to get my hopes that this will happen but it'll be interesting to see how fans react IF he becomes a Raven. I heard a woman say she would be "offended" if the Ravens brought traded for him which I find stupid. Yes, the team wants to maintain a good image but they also want to win. Marshall's problems have been well documented but I honestly think his desire to play in Baltimore and talent override those issues.

The only thing that has me worried is the cap room. Ozzie has said he wants to lock up Gaither and we have Clayton, D-Will and basically our whole recieving core and mostly Haloti Ngata who will be free agents. I ust hope if we do get Brandon Marshall, in which I'm all for it as I would gladly give up a 1st round pick for Marshall but if getting Marshall means no-resigning Ngata, Clayton, Jared Gaither than no I don't want him if he will hurt us in having no cap to re-sign nobody.

For Once, I actually am agreeing with Anita.... and I rarely agree with her. Why not go get Brandon Marshall... yeah there are tons of negatives but I think the positives out weigh the negatives. Plus he WANTS TO PLAY as a Baltimore Raven. If this don't hurt the cap than GO GET HIM OZZIE!!

Now, I don't doubt for one second that there would be fans very upset, especially female fans. But, I can assure you, that the majority of them will go ape-crap the first time he catches a long ball and fights his way into the endzone.

Hopefully,Demetrius is a good #2/3 WR,all he needs to do is stay healthy.I'm pretty sure if Ozzie really wanted Marshall he'd start clearing up cap space and trade for him,but I don't think McDaniels wants to destroy Denver even more, because if he gets rid of Marshall they only have Eddie Royal as a proven WR,and he can't carry that team by himself.

Yeah, good point about McDaniels. I live here in Denver now, and the man is not very popular. They might drag him out for a public hanging if he trades Marshall. I'm still hoping that he is that dumb though :)

Brandon Marshall doesnt like his coaching staff not his team. He is not a lockerrom cancer and only spoke out because Josh McDainels is a dope. I would want off that team too if some 33 year old ****** came in and ruined a playoff caliber team. If Denver has more than 5 wins this season I would be shocked!

Randy Moss got tossed around for different reasons and he definetly didn't have a QB in oakland.

TO has never had a great QB except for Donovan. Romo, Garcia and Edwards are jokes.

As for Chad, I dont know what his deal is. SOme people are just born crazy.
