the ravens are one of the greatest smashmouth teams of all time.....why would you want to lose that

the patriots play boring.....the ravens and steelers play real football

and i for one would never trade defensive greatness for the brady bunch
Well that's good. No one wants you to get 3 Super Bowls wins this decade; I'm glad we are in agreement.

I, on the other hand, will take three Super Bowl wins, and couple our dominating defense with an offense that crushes every foe in it's path.

In other words, you knew right from the start that the Ravens were clearly the superior team and did not stand a chance of losing... glad we cleared that up. :)

we dont need the brady bunch to win superbowls

well of course both would rock.....but if i had to choose one it would be defense

why is that how you felt last year :o

When you reply within my quote, it makes it more difficult for me to quote you with my post.
we dont need the brady bunch to win superbowls
It's been demonstrated that you don't actually need one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time... to win 2 Super Bowls.
why is that how you felt last year :o
Hmm I may need clarification; I'm not sure what you are asking...

If you are asking if I thought that the Ravens were clearly the superior team last year then: no.

the patriots d isn't really the greatest but with a stacked offense that can also do great time management then you don't need a great defense....

Don't speak too soon, I bet Belicheck has that unit playing well quickly; even if it is inexperienced.

The Bengals tried to win the AFC north by being a great passing team. When it came to December and January though, it caught up with them. They got beat up and demoralized at home and they haven't made it back since. If your style of play depends so heavily on the skill positions than your season can end on an injury. Like one to Carson Palmer for instance. If you depend on those big boys in front than you can plug in RB's and keep rolling all the way into the playoffs. The Patriots have a great passing offense! However, once Brady went down they were unable to make the playoffs. I don't want our season to be banked on one player on either side of the ball. That would seem to be the greatest weakeness of the finesse style of play.

Good point, I hadn't thought of it that way - a finesse game can be negated by felling one key component.

I know we all like smashmouth football and great defenses, but I have to admit that a tight spiral that settles like a feather in the hands of receiver sprinting down the field... gorgeous. I'm not going to complain if we see a lot of Flacco to Mason [or Clayton or whomever] completions this year.

I don't think there is one person who wouldn't mind seeing a lot of that. It's something that the Ravens have been lacking for so long. Its so refreshing to be able to know that at any given point we have a QB that can put it down the field with accuracy and poise.

We finally have a leader on the offensive side of the football. And he'll be here for quite some time. It's very exciting!

To all of you saying how you want a great offense to go with our defense, cool who doesn't? But theres this thing called a salary cap that makes creating a complete team very difficult.

That's what my concern is too. If we begin to shift to an offensive focus than how will that affect our ability to re-sign and draft the sort of players that we need on defense to continue the defensive legacy we have as a franchise. The salary cap keep any one team from being loaded on both sides. Most teams can be loaded on one or the other. Some teams get loaded at key positions and fill in the gaps in the others. The Colts peronnel focus is on offense clearly. Ours, the Bears, Vikings and Steelers is on defense primarily. Those "balanced" teams have the key players on each side like the Giants. They have great defensive ends and maybe a few guys in the secondary, but are not loaded of D. On offense they have Eli, Jacobs and at one point, Burress. If Ozzie and Harbaugh want us to become more balanced then fine. I just don't want us to focus so much on offensive personnel that we lose our consistency on defense.

Question how many of you were arround for `95 or 96 or 97 reguardless it was never never pretty even 2000/2001 our lambardi year still not pretty how many did we win on point scrapers barely by 1 2 or 3 points . last year and the first year with McNair were the only 2 I can remember where it wasnt so ugly but most of the wins were ugly still last year. sure we would all like to have the perfect team and I mean all of us. to see 50 yard bombs every game to blow out teams but if everyone was perfect in every area how dull would that be. we would never see a win never , all games would end in a stalemate. to be honest I am GLAD we arent perfect in the passing game, I am glad some times our Def botches a play but saves it at the last possible second. This is what makes Football great. a Fellow Raven Fan and I talked he is a MMA fighter here in pa , recently won his first title defense you know that day he was going up against a guy concidered by many in the area one of the perfect fighting specimens but my friend Jon won beat the guy in a 3rd round decision , now what seemed perfect to others was shown not to be, do we want to put on a facade that we are ok actualy if Mason hadn't left we would not have this so I am going to list some things.

1. I will trust in Harbs and Cams Judgement on WRs if they think Clayton and Williams and Harper and the rest can do ok then I will accept it.
2. I won't Make a Snap judgement while down at camp or while watching Preseason games. Because I am not seeing everything.
3. Potential Busts and Stars are Always there. Never look a gift horse in the mouth.
4.Ravens Football is Rarely Pretty too look at, Pretty fun to watch though.
and my final pearl to you guys....
5. if you think the grass is greener by all means no one is stopping you
Actually, the Super Bowl year was as pretty as can be. The idea that 'it's always been that way so learn to accept it' is vulgar. If everyone was perfect and we won every game 77-0, that would be far from boring.

Sorry, but having a desire to have another receiver to add to the corps is not dissent - it's a desire to make the team we support better. I respect your opinion, but don't tell people not to have their opinions in the process.

There's no reason not to have a defense AND an offense. Why allow one to be dysfunctional? I shake my head in confusion every time someone say something like, "Well, we're a defensive team so offense isn't a concern." What?

Nobody ever said that the offense wasnt a concern. But it is virtually impossible to have a dominant defense AND a dominant offense because the cap simply will not allow it.
