The Baltimore Ravens are looking for some revenge and progress in the AFC North when they play at the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday, Nov. 8. That score trumped Baltimore’s go-ahead, 4th-quarter, 48-yard TD pass from QB Joe Flacco to RB Ray Rice that gave the Ravens a 14-10 lead. Baltimore’s other TD came when S Ed Reed stole a Palmer pass and raced 52 yards to the end zone in the 1st quarter. The Baltimore Ravens face a tough task Sunday, Oct. 18, when they play the Minnesota Vikings, undefeated at 5-0, at Mall of America Field at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. Game time is 1 p.m. ET.

The Ravens, now 3-2 and losers of 2 in a row, have dropped gutwrenching, difficult games decided in the final minute of play. They lost a 27-21 decision at the Patriots 2 weeks ago, and followed that with last Sunday’s 17-14 defeat at M&T Bank Stadium to the 4-1 Bengals. Cincinnati's winning TD came on QB Carson Palmer’s 20-yard pass to WR Andre Caldwell with 22 seconds left in the contest.

Baltimore now trails the Bengals by 1 game in the tough AFC North. Cincinnati has beaten the other 3 teams in the division, including road victories at Cleveland and Baltimore. The Ravens and Steelers are tied at 3-2, while the Browns are 1-4.

The game at Minnesota, a 38-10 winner over the Rams last Sunday, is the 1st of 4 against the NFC North. The Ravens are at the Packers for a Monday night special on 12/7 and then host the Lions (12/13) and the Bears (12/20) on consecutive Sundays.

After the trip to Minnesota, the Ravens will have their bye weekend before hosting the currently undefeated Denver Broncos on Nov. 1. The battle with the Broncos will be followed by consecutive road games at Cincinnati and a Monday night clash at Cleveland on 11/16 .

A national-TV audience will watch when the Baltimore Ravens host the New York Jets next Monday, 8/24, at M&T Bank Stadium. Kickoff for the game, which will be broadcast by ESPN, is 8 p.m. New Jets head coach Rex Ryan returns to Baltimore, where he coordinated the Ravens defense from 2005-08 and was the teams defensive line coach from 1999-2004.

The Ravens opened the preseason impressively, beating the visiting Redskins 23-0 last Thursday (8/13). Along with shutting out Washington and holding its offense to 196 yards, the Ravens produced 500 yards on offense and did not turn the ball over while taking it away from the Skins twice. The Jets were stopped, 23-20, by the Rams at Giants Stadium last Friday. QBs Kellen Clemens and Mark Sanchez combined to complete 7 of 8 passes for 112 yards with no TDs or INTs. New York took a 10-3 2nd quarter lead before liberally substituting.
Baltimore finished 2008 with an 11-5 mark and then won consecutive road games in the playoffs at Miami and at Tennessee before losing at Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship. John Harbaugh and Joe Flacco set an NFL record for the most wins ever by a rookie head coach and rookie starting QB on the same team. Flacco became the 1st rookie QB to start and win 2 playoff games. The 2009 season is about to start, and the Baltimore Ravens cant wait.

You find out so much about your team in the preseason games. As much as we try, we cant simulate games in training camp. We need the competition from another team, head coach John Harbaugh states.

The Ravens, who made the playoffs as a Wild Card entrant in 2008, host the nearby rival Washington Redskins next Thursday, Aug. 13, at M&T Bank Stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m. There are a few hundred tickets available for the contest, which will sell out. This is the 5th preseason game against the Redskins, who finished 8-8 in 2008 after starting the year with a 6-2 mark. Two years ago (8/25/07) in the preseason, Washington defeated Baltimore at FedEx Field, 13-7, in a game that was stopped in the 3rd quarter because of a thunderstorm.

(The Ravens have defeated the Redskins 3 of the 4 times the 2 teams have met in the regular season. Washingtons lone victory [10-3] came in the Ravens 2000 Super Bowl winning season.)

Baltimore finished 2008 with an 11-5 mark and then won consecutive road games in the playoffs at Miami and at Tennessee before losing at Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship. Harbaugh and QB Joe Flacco set an NFL record for the most wins ever by a rookie head coach and quarterback on the same team. Flacco became the 1st NFL rookie QB to start and win 2 playoff games.

Thursdays game will mark the Ravens debut of the teams top 3 draft choices: RT Michael Oher, who will start at RT, OLB/DE Paul Kruger and CB Lardarius Webb. All 3 have been impressive in camp. Also seeing their first action as Ravens are free agents C Matt Birk and CB Domonique Foxworth. G Marshal Yanda and NT Kelly Gregg, both injured in 2008, are back and ready to play.

Following the Redskins game, the Ravens will host Rex Ryan and the Jets in an ESPN Monday night special on 8/24.
