  1. I love that Young has stepped right into the slot. Hoping against hope we finally hit on a another player at CB in the draft.

I'm still skeptical about Jimmy, I think he still doesn't trust his instincts enough, especially early in games. I hope it's just rust.

    -1

  2. Very encouraged by what I saw today. Obviously a ton of rust to shake off but that was to be expected. Incredibly pleased with the defensive effort, especially from the down linemen. They should get better every week as ZDS and Judon continue to improve (And we get Dumervil back). McClellan is clearly at his ceiling but he's a decent stopgap for the first half of the season.

Say what you want about the offense, but this is exactly the type of game the Ravens lost over the past two seasons because they couldn't run out the clock. We ran the ball when it mattered most and they knew were going to run. I think the timing and playcalling issues will be resolved in the coming weeks but the physicality and will to win that you can't teach is already there. Very excited to watch this team evolve.

P.S. -- Shout out to Judon for the textbook Quarterback hit on Tyrod. That's the kind of play a rookie can easily mess up and end up with a roughing call. Like this kid more every day. Doesn't hurt I was born in Detroit and have multiple relatives that passed through the doors of Grand Valley State.

Maybe not consistently, but perrimans gonna make a wow play. Deep ball, maybe the end zone, will out leap double coverage and come down with a really tough catch.

SSS is gonna have a big game. There's something different about him this year. A realization that this is actually it. A focus. He's going to make the most of it.

And I'll ride with the hot hands on defense. Levine and Judon are going to make splash plays. With Doom out, big Z will get the bulk of his snaps but Judon is gonna get some and he gets a strip sack.

Levine for a pick in that dime backer role. He's on a role and I think he's finally found his comfort zone. Break out year and it starts game 1.

Great point about Steve. I'll it take a step further and say in Carolina he was always needed, until he wasn't. In Baltimore he's wanted. He has brothers that value him for who he is and that's a whole different game. He's playing for something he believes in, something bigger than himself and even bigger than glory or recognition. That's powerful.

:/ getting bored of this wait..nfl season needs to have 8 more regular seasons games. superbowl can move to april. As a fan of all sports a 9 month plus layoff is flat out ridiculous.

Man I would love to watch a game with you some time. Or play a game of poker lol.

Well according to Nate Silver and 538 polls (very respected pollster) the expected win loss record for the Ravens is 7-9. More precisely they expect 7.4 wins and 8.6 losses for the ravens. I hate them.

538 is great, stats are flawed. We have a significant number of unknowns which inevitably skew analytics toward the negative.

And as any Ravens fan knows, predictions mean nothing.

Well don't sleep on Anthony Levine Sr. I expect him to be the shadow on Tyrod for the whole game simply because he's quick enough to cover the pass and also tackles and covers well enough to not allow Tyrod to break out long runs. Given his focus solely on Tyrod I also expect him to be in a good position to make impact plays.

Great call. I think spy on mobile QBs is what Levine is made for no doubt. Correa should develop into that role as well.

On offense, it's a tough call but I'm actually going to go with Perriman. He's an unknown at this point so he's not going to get the respect early on especially with Sr. and Wallace also on the field. Perriman vs. a nickel CB is an OC's dream.

Lol!  My bad!  I believe we'll lose this game bro.

And...you read all of this into my brief..."Of course he is aren't we all" statement?  Wow!  Lol!

Not at all. It's based on a sample of about 10-15 of your recent posts. A couple years ago you were far more optimistic but I get being jaded after last season. And even more so, being jaded about the Pees era since even when his system works it doesn't dominate like the Ravens of old.

That aside, personally I have faith in the organization and I like the moves we've made. I do agree that it remains to be seen, but I choose to anticipate the best rather than hedging my bets with low expectations.

Just a personal preference but I've found, as a fan that has no impact on the outcome of games, that being optimistic is more fun than a "show me" attitude. I just don't think the team "owes" me anything. If they're great, amazing. If not, changes will be made. I can only control myself and I like feeling good about the team.

i dont really view this as a kc vs spence or jack conversation anymore- if we werent sold on either player, the trade back and picking up extra picks look good to me

We've added a deep threat, big play guy in Chris Moore and a budding pass rusher in Matt Judon

I look more at who was still on the board when we picked KC, all what ifs though

If one of these players reach a high level, I think the front office has done their job, if 2 reach a high level thats a great job, if all 3 hit - you get to be the Wizard

Totally agree. It's easy to be shortsighted about our moves but the front office has so much more to consider. Outsiders have the benefit of hindsight which is a poor method of judging decision-making in all walks of life.

I agree with your assessment. If any two of the three between KC, Moore and Judon, pan out the 2nd round move was a home run. If all 3 excel then I think the keyboard GMs should do the right thing and ban themselves.

Well I'm sticking by my prediction, however little it might mean. I think the Ravens are significantly better than last year even before the rash of injuries. And I think Suggs comments to the press earlier this month show that he agrees.

Couldn't agree more. I think over the past few years we've been looking at the team at this moment and hoping that guys over perform (particularly in the secondary and at the RB position). 13/14 we got that to a degree and made some noise, in '15 those players all played to expectation or below it which we couldn't overcome combined with injuries.

This year I think, across the board, we need guys to play to expectation to contend and a couple overachievers (i.e. a consistent year from Joe, a guy like Dixon or West becoming a star, someone at the CB2 position with a knack or turnovers, etc.) and puts us over the top. Definitely safe to be optimistic about either scenario.

seen it mentioned a few times by others that given its preseason and we generally dont scheme too much - hopefully once the real action kicks off - we can send him after the QB from some different looks, allowing us to try and create mismatches for him against tight ends and RB's, we've got 2 guys who can beat up on tackles, hopefully we've added another wrinkle

Couldn't agree more. I think this is the plan exactly.

We won a SB with this FO right? I didnt imagine that?

Pretty sure we won two...in something like 17 years of existence. Not worth getting into it though the whining is just a cry for attention.

I would love to see a Corey Graham-like signing. Someone to really push Wright. I think Young supplants Powers and Elam does the same to Lewis when he comes back so I'm not too worried about those spots, but a quality CB2 or someone to force Wright to become that would be invaluable. I think we could definitely contend as it stands now, but solidifying that corner could make this team a nightmare for opponents on both sides of the ball.

  12. butler to the bucs

    so no..

They both went to desperate, garbage teams...so yes exactly.

Edit: And in Butler's case he's going to TB's practice squad...which we can still sign him from if we're activating to 53. Can't fault the kid for wanting some time in the sun after getting his dreams crushed.

No doubt it contributed to his choice and I must say I was not following the Ravens as closely at the time.

My personal opinion is you never let him go, talk of conflict between the 2 because he doesn't buy in to Harbaughs system - whose to say Ed was wrong.

Since our SB victory we are a pretty ordinary side - under .500 I think - so whatever the coaching staff or FO has done isn't working, yes we had injuries but every team has injuries. I'm not happy with what we've achieved since our Super Bowl - I don't think many people could honestly say we've achieved much or have anything to show for it - we've missed the playoffs in 2 of the last 3 seasons and we haven't even really developed any young players - which was the thinking behind the post SB purge I presume - what young guns have come throw in the last few years??

I think that SB was an accumulation of talent acquired prior to Harbs - with obvious complimentary pieces added under his watch

Think Harbaugh n co started to believe their own bs, didn't need senior players to help run the team and help make us better and thought they could coach everything up

Wheels had to fall off, we go 5-11 - people probably start thinking 3 years removed from a SB and we do this again we might be looking for new jobs - boom in comes the law firm - Weedle, Wallace and Watson - senior players across the board. All guys who seem like they'll play nice too, nobody that's going to speak out of turn.

See how we go this year but I think if we struggle and don't make the playoffs - jobs are on the line  3 out of 4 seasons not making the playoffs isn't going to cut it

I dunno man. First, if you weren't following the team, how can you comment on what the team/culture was like pre-Harbaugh? You realize that Harbaugh took at a team that went 5-11 the year before(2007), added a rookie QB, a rookie RB and a couple vets at key positions and went 12-4/to the AFC Championship?

You also realize that very same article about Ed not talking to Harbs ended with Ed admitting to Harbs after the SB that he understands where he was coming from? You don't just win a Super Bowl with an "accumulation of talent."

Did you see Ed Reed play in Houston and in New York? He was god awful. He wanted to get paid one more time so he used his name to get a check. No shame in that but if you really think the Ravens should be in the business of holding onto guys until they want to leave rather than when their useful life is over, I can't see how you're actually interested in winning.

Ed's relationship with Rex was a "contributing factor?" Rex Ryan is a woeful head coach but he's a defensive genius. Any young defensive coach would want to work for him or Belichick. Is that an indictment of the Ravens and Harbaugh? Not even close, in fact it has nothing to do with this organization at all.

If anything you're claiming is true, why is Steve Smith on this team? He's exactly the type of player you claim Harbaugh's "character" cannot tolerate.

If you don't like Harbaugh just say it plainly. The rest of these statements are erroneous at best.

yep im a bit lost on your original comment.

as for reed, come on he's not just a guy - he's possibly one of the greatest safeties to ever play the game - I'm not saying make him the coach of anything and set him up to fail. I'm sorry but I feel you have to bring him in and just make room for him somewhere - he can be some sort of assistant to somebody.

Say this is a business and the goal of the business is to make money and this guy has made more money than most people in his industry - I want that persons knowledge in my business.

NFL is a business - Ed Reed only had more interceptions than most going around, I need that knowledge in my teaching rooms, on the field, little word here or there (could have been the difference between Elam n Brooks balling out or busting - because they've shown they can play - maybe just needed some guidance, whoever we've got hadn't really provided it, if they're now sighting Weddle's impact)

he doesn't have to run things - he clearly wanted to move into coaching, I personally would accomodate him and offer him a position within the organisation but I think it's somebody who has a whole heap of swag, with results to back it up - leads me back to questions about Harbaugh

So you don't think Ed having a deep relationship with Rex Ryan, under whom he made his name, has anything to do with him wanting to start his coaching career in Buffalo?
