oh right - so if you draft a guy like robinette or give them a contract but they are essentially unavailable you essentially might postpone part of the contract like if they were retired a la rolando mcclain?
15 minutes ago, BOLDnPurPnBlacK said:And former soccer player, so if he builds up his lower body or cleans up some of his excess weight so he carries his weight better.... he has natural footwork to mirror/match defenders in pass sets.
rugby is the sport that probably will help his mirroring ability more than any of the other sports because of the way you defend in open space and the lightness you have to have on your feet when defending against guys with great footwork and side-steps/jukes but also the power to hold on and push back those guys - rugby defensive goal-line drills will probably really help him in terms of his drive blocking as a guard and finishing those blocks and ironically defending in space would give him skills that would probably help him as a corner - because of the body shaping and pushing attackers towards the sideline and the back pedal/hip fluidity required to be a good defender in space as a rugby player... if that was his body type/skillset in the nfl which it isnt lol but it should also transfer some ability to mirror well given some space to kickstep into
the biggest thing he will lack is use of his anchor and engaging with his hands together and just general polish all around on the finer details

What I remember is that his spin was pretty fast and polished unlike the one of Nkemdiche, to cite one. I don't recall him using it unnecessarily but again, I'm likely wrong. Perhaps, in order to dig little deeper, I can make a compilation of spins and take a few screens if necessary. Just for the sake of discussing it of course, not to put the final sentence on who's right.
My intention was, anyway, not to discredit our Williams. I just happened to see him performing it less frequently. If I'm not replying any time soon I'll see you there guys!
oh of course - i wasnt saying i was right either or that you were coming at williams
im also going to admit that with the whole spinning in place nonsense i was talking about earlier i was actually thinking of taco charlton - however i do still see a lack of violence in harris's move that sometimes allows tackles just to hold onto a piece of him if he doesnt get the timing absolutely right - there's a good example of this vs kentucky and he's maybe a bit too trigger happy with the spin move situationally and it makes him a little 1-dimensional and obvious
but hey if you can put the final sentence on who's right im absolutely down to be wrong lol

If the Texans can do what they did with Brock last year then there's no reason why we couldn't do even better. Shoot we won a Superbowl with Dilfer. I think people are sleeping on Mallet. He's a very serviceable QB and that was probably one of our most underrated signings thus far this offseason. Great insurance policy.
unfortunately the reason the texans could do that still is because the rest of their division sucked last year - i fully expect the titans to win that division this year no matter what happens with the texans
the problem we have is that even the browns play us close - pittsburgh and cinci also are incredibly difficult opponents to play against when you have no qb - there'd still be an outside chance if this defense truly comes to fruition but it's not the same situation as with the texans

There is no rule that states don't mention who the Ravens drafted until after everyone has found out about it from means other than this site. Like I said you should have started another thread for your viewing party. Of course if you did that the moderators would have merged the threads.
literally it did say that on the first page of the first draft game day thread... it literally said no announcing the picks please so you're just wrong
6 minutes ago, BOLDnPurPnBlacK said:No i havent. Who's doing that one?
i dont know them but they posted on the new forum home thread: http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/topic/72491-a-new-forum-home/?page=4#comment-2591012

and look where it's got them lol - no playoff wins
2 minutes ago, OUravensfan said:How good are Mixon and Ross going to be, it's so infuriating that that team always gets offensive playmakers when they have down years. I wish some other team sacrificed their fake morals before the Bengals did so the guy wasn't in our division.
it'll bite them some day the same way that vontaze burfict and adam jones single handedly lost them that playoff game vs pittsburgh

weve already got some 130 or more registered posters... if we build it they will come.
And keep in mind, i fully intend for that to be just a temporary home. It ended up being a much bigger project than i initially thought, but im in the works of creating a fully contained, privately hosted, scaleable, professionally designed, and highly customizable new home for us. Complete with community forum, and eventually a front end for user contributed articles, news, media content, etc...
My goal is to have that up and running by the beginning of the regular season.
thanks so much - have you spoken to the purpleflock.com guys?
1 minute ago, BOLDnPurPnBlacK said:lol thats you? i was wondering -- theres someone registered as "Flex" and then i saw the comprehensuv... wasnt sure which was you.
i think they both might be lol
jalen robinette might be a decent option anyway if he's allowed to come to training camp (not sure how it would work) but if not then essentially the military is ruining his career before it's started because in two years he'll be the forgotten man - they really should allow military guys to do their 2 years and then enter the draft... rather than enter the draft and not be able to play for 2 years
1 hour ago, jazz1988 said:I seen that it won't affect Keenan Reynolds but it will for other that recently enter the draft but i'm not entirely sure if it's true.
jalen robinette?
1 hour ago, atomicfront said:The thing is it is not your "community". It has nothing to do with you. I have as much right to post my opinions as you do. Like I said people begin to think it belong to a few members. I am just as important as you or anyone else who posts here. I buy Ravens tickets and I watched them on TV. I am sure some guy with 20,000 posts from Australia isn't buying many tickets to games or watch games on Network TV. . It isn't a community it is just a place to discuss Ravens related information. It is supposed to be a fun excursion from real life.
of course it's a community - i dont know why that's mutually exclusive from it being a place to discuss ravens related info
if you dont like the way this forum works then dont use it... but there are clear rules that the mods work within which are signposted when you join the site - i dont know what you think we should do differently? should we not enjoy the draft coverage as a group if we want to? should we not agree with each other and disagree with you just because you dont want us to?
Just an interesting thing that was brought up on mmqb: it seems that because of the depth at both corner and edge rusher a trend emerged whereby zone heavy teams took edge rushers and press-man/man coverage scheme teams took corners early on
it was an interesting nugget especially given we essentially emphasised both of those positions
6 minutes ago, BOLDnPurPnBlacK said:His main issue pulling seems fairly correctable. It's like he's so eager to engage with contact that he leads with his arms/upper body so he's upright and doesn't bring his feet with him.
But it looks to me like he consistently identifies the right block, approaches from the right angle and understands the lane to create. He just too often creates a stalemate... which I guess worked a lot with Pumphrey who was hard to see and could slide in those tight little lanes.
I'm no OL coach but that seems correctable. Just more patience and technique to get your feet set before engaging with your punch so you can latch on, sink and drive with the hips instead of lunging on with just the upper body and head down.
i saw that too - when pulling it felt like he wasnt particularly powerful when he engaged and I hope it's easily correctable (I dont really know enough about line play to know how coachable it is) but I often felt like part of the reason he wasn't powerful was because he was struggling to get there with bad/slow footwork - it like you said it's about technique and 'bringing his feet with him' then i could see that as being correctable but i worry that he wont be quick enough to create a solid base when pulling
I feel like we should assemble Steve, Rayray, wisdom, purp...winchester and pay them to avenge us by assassinating any other team's remaining boards
They can be the new Avengers

it's still no guarantee he's on the roster - it feels like more of insurance in case he improves rather than an expectation that he will improve
4 minutes ago, JoeyFlex5 said:If we run a gap scheme and slowly convert to a power scheme as guys like goose get acclimated to pulling and learn some better technique then it could work. But I'm just not sure he can acclimate. He doesn't seem to have that skillset to work in space
well they occasionally seemed to ask him to pull in college but he was never really that effective - he looks powerful but doesnt seem to have the footwork to be powerful when engaging as the pulling guard... maybe it's a lack of practice given that they mainly operate a zone scheme in his program - and someone (cant remember who) much more knowledgeable than me about offensive line play in the game day thread after he was picked mentioned that he seemed physically better suited to the power scheme but that they didnt use him well within the scheme so maybe it's about practice and technique (I hope) rather than an inability to work in that sort of scheme
these are my hopes and dreams

just waiting on it to be activated lol. its just Flex5 now. i feel strange that so many people here refer to me as joey, and my name is in no way joey lol.
i know its a flacco reference... but it almost feels like im catfishing.
haha - rossi aint my name either lol - but its always been a username/pseudonym i use and its stuck with me for a long time
1 hour ago, JoeyFlex5 said:his game against wyoming was MUCH better. there seems like something was wrong with him vs San Jose St.. because he was dominant vs wyoming. he put his man to the turf very often.
im glad you mentioned that wyoming game because i just watched it and he looked pretty solid - I know he's bigger than guys we've drafted in recent ravens history but he didnt seem to work as well when pull-blocking which i guess could be problematic if we are moving to a power scheme like it seems we are - i worry that he's a boom-bust kind of prospect for us...
