And even as someone who played and had an overwhelming compulsion to study the game and watch film, I frequently learn from folks like @BmoreBird22 and @JoeyFlex5 who know infinitely more than I do in some subject areas. I didn't know the first thing about coverages until Bmorebird got here.

I truly, truly appreciate the shoutout.

I'm about as livid as anyone that this site is shutting down because @The Raven was the most knowledgeable offensive line guru I knew on these boards. When these two picks (Siragusa and the other whose name I will not attempt to spell) happened, I knew immediately that he would have me and others covered.

Words simply cannot express how much I will miss the knowledge that some of you posters shared with me.

do we have a full position coverage for scouting on this forum then? the raven has oline, bmorebird has dbs in coverage... i feel like flex is pretty flames on edge rush guys - maybe we can fill out a roster of specialists on the next forum ready for the draft - so we know who to come to for specific prospect breakdowns lol

Interesting that they deleted my original post and kept your post with a quote of my post.  Perhaps they didn't like that I quoted the moderators post that mentioned disabled people in it that I quoted as that was deleted as well.

Yeah when Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, and Premier League games are played in Baltimore than I would be fine with NFL games in Europe.  What are the odds of Real Madrid playing Barcelona in Baltimore?

the us has it's own soccer league that isnt entirely based on farming colleges (which instantly makes it easier to coexist internationally whereas university sport is not as big a deal in the rest of the world) - once american football is really an internationally played sport and big soccer teams stop coming to the US in the Summer your argument might have an ounce of validity

Receivers I think The Ravens can target in a trade is Marqise Lee, Jordan Matthews,Tajae Sharpe,Quinton Patton,Rashad Greene,  and Justin Hardy,

no way the titans get rid of tajae sharpe, jordan matthews isn't coming to baltimore, why would we want quinton patton or rashad greene or justin hardy?

which leaves marquise lee who isnt really an upgrade on anything we have on our offense - and im not sure why the jags would want to get rid of a receiver who finally broke out last year - they have allen robinson and hurns, westbrook is a wild card and there are no guarantees he's a good player but it took the falcons more than 3 receivers last year to be a successful offense why would the jags wilfully get rid of marquise lee?

What do u guys think of undrafted Will Likely from Maryland? He maybe small in size but he's a play maker. I think he can come in an fight for that special teams return job. An he gives debt at alot of other positions.. I think he can fit in what u think?

the problem with likely is he just is too short to offer anything outside of the returner role - as a pure coverage cornerback he has great coverage ability the problem is - a short slot receiver is still likely to have at least a few inches on him and imagine what he'd look like if he ended up being schemed up against a taller guy

just like every year i dont think we go into the season looking for a specialist return man and we'll be looking for someone who can affect other areas of the game to take on that role...

Yes, I agree, and it would be disappointing if they under-performed. All the resources they have put into that unit. I wish we had retained Leslie Frazier but he took a coordinator job.

I don't think we've gotten any better on offense, unless it is something more subtle with scheme and coaching. We lost our most reliable WR and leader, lost a premier RT, and traded away the starting center. Now, all of those things could be distant memories comes November, if new guys step up and returning players stay healthy. I'm optimistic but harbor doubts.

oh i agree entirely - im very skeptical of this offense improving this year although as a whole it was pretty disappointing most of last year anyway - im not sure it could get a huge amount worse at times (although it obviously improved towards the end of the year)

my point was more that this team is set up incredibly well for the next few years if even 2 of our draft picks from this year pan out and I'd be surprised if less than 3 did to be honest, especially given the amount of cap space we are projected to have next offseason compared to what we normally have barring something going wrong this year

    Could be great.

Should at least be really good.

You can tell the coaches and FO were stung by the defense faltering down the stretch. I expect them to reclaim a top 5 defense and remain steady throughout. I think Jeff Zrebiec tweeted that all of the starting front defense is 28 or younger, outside of Suggs and Weddle - a lot of young depth after that, too.

it's a situation now where this defense is set up deep with young promising talent at most positions except maybe free safety - my hope is that the offense makes strides this year but even if they dont this team is set up so well if they can land some offensive talent in next year's draft... because outside of some dramatic unexpected busts this defense is not going to regress anytime soon

Well yesterday I heard Chris Carter talk about the Bengals Owner, very candidly. He said Owner Mike Brown had him talk to all the players and rookies a few times to tell them about his story as a player and how he overcame his off field struggles with drugs etc.

Anyway he apologized to Chris for not drafting him since he knew Chris was from nearby in Ohio and struggled to make it there. Then when the Eagles cut Carter the owner said he felt like he should have signed him them to give him a second chance because he always felt he needed to use his team as avenue to give second chances and help those less fortunate, overlooked or with red flags.

Carter said he's willing to draft and sign guys just so they can have a chance to correct past mistakes and even if it fails he's tried to help them.

that's crazy - i hate the sentiment that everyone deserves a second chance at the privilege of playing football - it is a privilege not a right - drug issues im fine with, various character concerns/maturity issues arent ideal and obviously rarely pan out but they arent unforgivable but mixon did something that should preclude him from the privilege of playing football in my eyes - his only punishment is that he maybe dropped a round in the draft (at most)

all this is, is the bengals working out that they can get a guy who is incredibly talented on the field because he fell a little bit - this is purely monetary and the bengal's organisation deserve no credit for giving guys like mixon second chances - they can't have their cake and eat it too

What about martavis Bryant? Isn't this the second time he's coming back from a suspension? The steelers did draft JuJu which made no sense unless he's there to replace someone. Pretty sure Bryant is in the last year of his contract too.

    4th round pick?

Almost certainly Sammie Coates is the odd man out but they'll keep him as long as they can before cutting him because of the drugs tightrope Bryant has to walk - also there's no way the steelers trade within the division unless they know Bryant's about to fail a test

pittsburgh has Antonio brown, martavis Bryant, Eli rogers, juju smith-schuster as their top 4 and I think Sammie Coates was overtaken by a couple of others because he couldn't catch the ball

so we aren't getting Bryant and I'm not sure Coates is worth anything given that we have enough deep speed guys with reliability concerns at the moment (not saying they won't improve)

Even with injuries, Watkins would require a first to pry away. Too much untapped potential in a very young player.

surely not given that this is a 1 year thing... no team is giving up a 1st round pick for only 1 year of an injury prone guy...

btw this is not me advocating us picking him up in a trade

  11. Campanaro - I say it every year and hope it's true, he's still on the team (just about) so why change it this time? On a real note, it was nice to see him and Flacco together on the first day in Coach Saunders's training regime - when healthy Camp has always seemed to have the upside of a nice 3rd down safety valve and Flacco has always seemed to like throwing to him in his limited availability.

Anyway, that is my hope for the coming year. If it comes to fruition... great but it hasn't yet.

We understand that the smaller group of regular board users here are extremely active and we very much value your avid support of our team.

This is the part of the reasoning that bugs me the most. Because there has been no evidence that they do actually value our "avid" support.

And while trolls and negativity are present on those channels, we have seen (particularly over the last several years) an equal amount of trolling/attacking/negativity on these boards. (I realize the users may not have seen it, but just ask the mods how many inappropriate comments have needed to be removed from this community.)

And this unfortunately is the bit that feels almost disingenuously undervaluing the mods. Yes the mods may be dealing with more trolling and having to put in hard work but without them this board would essentially be a "budget" facebook - it is the mods taking away the trolling that allows conversation to take place - no one on this forum (I don't think) is debating that trolls are omnipresent but the reason none of us will talk football on facebook is because the mods cannot police it. The whole point is the users don't see the inappropriate comments etc. because that allows the community here to flourish.

These are the things that I cannot get my head around still - the greatest thing about this forum is its access to intelligent discussion (for the mostpart) for literally all comers from anywhere in the world. Now not to stereotype but there are a lot of people on these forums who do have access to people with whom they can discuss the NFL and the Ravens but almost all of us foreigners and I imagine many US Ravens fans don't have access to discussion like that and communicating with fans on Facebook and Twitter (as many have mentioned including Admin 3) is not a replacement... and this is where my issue lies because if we are valued as a community and a group of fans then why is there no replacement space? Where should we go?

I'm just disappointed, it's not that I don't think thought went into this decision, it's that I know thought did go into the decision and they still made this particular choice.

Youre right, defending the wing positions in basketball is near identical in terms of concepts to defending in soccer. On ball defending very similar to 1v1 defending.

Never played rugby but considering the countries/cultures that seem to love and thrive at rugby also many cases love and do well at soccer -- i imagine youre spot on with there being many similarities in techniques and skills...

And i wasnt discrediting the impact rugby would have on a football player, hope it didnt come across that way. Just that i dont think his 1 year playing rugby (bc it was the closest organized sport to football in his town) would have developed much in him that would stick as a habit.

oh yeah no worries at all - i was just talking about in terms of rugby the idea that he would have been around the sport even if he hadnt been playing organised sport - maybe even playing it in school... (depending on his schooling)

He played rugby for like a year.... so idk how useful it is. Hes now a much more polished footballer player than he ever was a rugby player. idk that he played long enough for anything to "carry over."

But defending in soccer is very similar to defending a pocket. Retreat a little early with one foot forward and one back for balance. But you dont retreat too much and have to be positioned just right so when they try to cut back inside you can cut that attempt off and keep your body positioned inside.

The footwork and body positioning is very similar. Staying low for leverage when making contact is key as well. The obvious difference is the amount of contact and the hand use.... but for that his wrestling ability is very useful. All about timing your shoot to land first, and controlling the guy across from you's body and weight... using their momentum against them, etc..

Both 1v1 defending, 2nd/3rd defender and team shape defending concepts probably surprisingly to some have a ton in common... coupled with wrestling seem like a darn good recipe for the base of an OL. Just very rare youd have a soccer player become the size of an OL.

to be fair just growing up around soccer and rugby have similar skills and in much the same way that US kids will understand some things fundamentally about defending etc. almost by osmosis it will be the same for him - it's funny because the way you talk about that wing-back type defending style in soccer is similar to team drift defense schemes in rugby - i guess there are just techniques and similarities between a lot of different sports that carry over - you're right though that the wrestling is almost certainly the biggest deal
