Make no doubt with these three signings, cap clearing will be done within the next year or two for underperforming players. A lot of guys can be cut in 2017 to give us more space, and the cap keeps rising. Brandon Williams and future cap space should become the focus through the rest of Free Agency unless a bargain upgrade becomes available.
One thing Wallace brings to the table is the is fear of getting beat. He has successfully found the end zone at a much higher rate than most high end WRs. This will help our running game too.
30 minutes ago, WNC-Raven said:It will all depend on where Kap and RGIII go. CLE is interested in Kap. DAL "says" they wont pick a QB in the first. It's possible no one takes a QB in which case our #6 may fetch a high price to teams looking to move up ahead of SF. Personally I think SF should see how Kap does under Chip Kelly in which case CLE takes a QB. DAL may be blowing hot air and take one as well. Thats the best case for us at least. It will most likely be somewhere in the middle where 1 QB is taken ahead of us.
Neither of those guys will prevent a QB needy team from taking Goff or Wentz unless they feel that neither will be good in the NFL. The consensus is that they are both Top 10 picks and that is where they will be drafted.
No way a QB isn't drafted in the top 5. Out of the top 5, 1 needs a QB like now and the other 2 should've been thinking about life after their current QB's (Rivers and Romo). One of those guys will drop and I really hope it's ramsey or bosa
I agree, but if that happens, you better believe we will get trade offers from teams looking to get ahead of SF. Eagles, Bears, Saints, Rams, Jets, and Broncos should all be interested.
If the Steelers want to motivate us this offseason, they are certainly doing a good job through social media. Please give us more juice!
I don't think Harvin is a realistic fit, unless he is getting a bargain 1-3M/YR deal. Too many teams have given him a shot only to let him go within a year or two.
It sounds like Mike Wallace is getting wooed by our staff all day today. It will be interesting to see if they let him leave without a contract.
I question the San Diego Tribune's accuracy. The article was littered with inaccurate information and bias about Weddle. Saying he will raise his family in SD when it has been reported that he was factoring in the school systems when making his decision. It calls him the second highest paid safety to Eric Berry (Rival) but in reality Weddle will be the 14th highest paid safety and, is making less money on this contract than his previous one.
NFL.com says 4YR 26Mil.

June 1st cuts will occur to clear cap space. Lewis, Webb, and Elam are the most likely victims.
I encourage everyone to check out his Top 100 highlights on youtube to give you an idea of what he brings to the table. This is the best FA move we have made since signing SSR and trading for Boldin.
4 Years, $26 Mil comes in at 6.5M per year.
Weddle just agreed to a deal!!!
3 picks in 3 years... sounds like a Ravens safety to me...
He played for one of the worst pass rushes in the NFL for the last 5 years. Weddle is a known playmaker who has earned the respect of his peers. If you watch him play he is all over the field. He is a film room junkie, who gets everyone lined up properly, and provides leadership to a unit lacking it. This is an A+ signing if it is under 6M/YR.
Since we have a little cap space it's time to lock up Upshaw for this season and Brandon Wm's for his post rookie contract. Our "D" needs these two more than a free agent receiver or another safety. We have a plethora of draft picks that should be able to help us out at those positions if needed.
Upshaw hasn't developed into a pass rusher. We need guys who harass the QB.
I really hope both these moves take place.
I think Wallace would be a good fit. Adds more speed to our offense, who can definitely produce. He can also help Perriman out with developing, along with SSS. SSS, Perriman, Aiken, and Wallace would be a pretty solid WR group. Then add in Watson, Gilmore, and Williams at TE, that is pretty exciting. This doesn't include the long list of WRs that are fighting for roster spots. I hope Camp can actually stay healthy.
I'm think maybe a 1-2 year deal for Wallace at about 3 million per season.
As for Weddle, he has it narrowed down to 4 teams, and I believe we are one of them. I think we will find out either tomorrow or Tuesday where he will be playing. Obviously he would help our defense, but who do you cut at S? Kendrick Lewis would be gone. Then do you start Will Hill or Webb? Hill has played well the past 2 years. If Webb is moving to FS, it will be interesting what they do. Will Hill is only 25 or 26 years old, so I hope he sticks with us for the long run. I personally don't think Weddle will choose Baltimore, but I do believe we have a good chance. Having SSS here will help, but finances are probably gonna be the issue. May be an interesting week for the Ravens.I think Weddle's best football is behind him and why are we interested in adding a slow, non playmaker like him in the deepest part of the secondary. Isn't the problem that we don't have players like that already? So to add another on doesn't make any sense to me, especially when you'll have to pay top dollar for him.
Weddle just turned 30 and could easily play at a high level for the next 5 years. He has been incredibly productive on a team that has failed to generate a pass rush since the Shawne Merriman days. I think Weddle is best know for his ability to tackle, but also for his knack of always being involved in the play. He also has really good instincts, and is a film room junkie. He would bring much needed leadership to our secondary. The real question comes down to the price. Ozzie will get this right.
We could definitely use Wallace as deep threat insurance policy on Perriman. Weddle would be nice to have, but I question what it would cost to bring him in. We have Will Hill, Kendrick Lewis, LaDarius Webb, Terrence Brooks, Matt Elam, Anthony Levine already under contract. One would think that there will be some June 1st cap casualties.
The Watson signing makes a lot of sense also. We needed better TE depth. Injuries prevented us from using those two TE sets for the majority of the season and Flacco really seems to click with TE's. Watson is also an good blocker who could help us in the run game. He will also bring leadership to the young group.
