Make no doubt with these three signings, cap clearing will be done within the next year or two for underperforming players. A lot of guys can be cut in 2017 to give us more space, and the cap keeps rising. One thing Wallace brings to the table is the is fear of getting beat. He has successfully found the end zone at a much higher rate than most high end WRs. This will help our running game too.

Neither of those guys will prevent a QB needy team from taking Goff or Wentz unless they feel that neither will be good in the NFL. The consensus is that they are both Top 10 picks and that is where they will be drafted.

I question the San Diego Tribune's accuracy. The article was littered with inaccurate information and bias about Weddle. Saying he will raise his family in SD when it has been reported that he was factoring in the school systems when making his decision. It calls him the second highest paid safety to Eric Berry (Rival) but in reality Weddle will be the 14th highest paid safety and, is making less money on this contract than his previous one. NFL.com says 4YR 26Mil.

June 1st cuts will occur to clear cap space. Lewis, Webb, and Elam are the most likely victims.

Weddle just agreed to a deal!!!

He played for one of the worst pass rushes in the NFL for the last 5 years. Weddle is a known playmaker who has earned the respect of his peers. If you watch him play he is all over the field. He is a film room junkie, who gets everyone lined up properly, and provides leadership to a unit lacking it. This is an A+ signing if it is under 6M/YR.

Upshaw hasn't developed into a pass rusher. We need guys who harass the QB.

I really hope both these moves take place.

I think Weddle's best football is behind him and why are we interested in adding a slow, non playmaker like him in the deepest part of the secondary. Isn't the problem that we don't have players like that already? So to add another on doesn't make any sense to me, especially when you'll have to pay top dollar for him. Weddle just turned 30 and could easily play at a high level for the next 5 years. He has been incredibly productive on a team that has failed to generate a pass rush since the Shawne Merriman days. I think Weddle is best know for his ability to tackle, but also for his knack of always being involved in the play. He also has really good instincts, and is a film room junkie. He would bring much needed leadership to our secondary. The real question comes down to the price. Ozzie will get this right.

We could definitely use Wallace as deep threat insurance policy on Perriman. Weddle would be nice to have, but I question what it would cost to bring him in. We have Will Hill, Kendrick Lewis, LaDarius Webb, Terrence Brooks, Matt Elam, Anthony Levine already under contract. One would think that there will be some June 1st cap casualties. The Watson signing makes a lot of sense also. We needed better TE depth. Injuries prevented us from using those two TE sets for the majority of the season and Flacco really seems to click with TE's. Watson is also an good blocker who could help us in the run game. He will also bring leadership to the young group.
