Comp picks certainly have a weird formula. Why would the signing of Upshaw for 1 year 1M give us a 3rd round pick, but we wouldn't qualify for a 4th or 5th if he signed for less? This is confusing to me.
Are you happy or bitter? It is hard to decipher based on your comment. While he fits our physical style of play, the liability in coverage, and lack of generating a pass rush made him expendable.
The draft zone should be 1-8 : Tunsil, Jack, Bosa, Ramsey, Hargreaves, Buckner, Wentz, Elliot. If a team wants to give us the ranch to trade up and take Goff or Wentz, I am all for trading back. I think Wentz will be a Top QB in the league.
And Graham Gano plays for the Panthers. All these old Ravens becoming starters makes life confusing. Jerry Rosberg is the best kicking coach in the NFL.
Football doesn't have to be as complicated at the rulebook makes it. It is clear that owners are scared of future litigation coming against them. Eliminating the chop block will create more concussions. Harbaugh easily explained that theory.
I was thinking of agreeing with you but then I looked at Perrimen being a virtual unknown and Wallace has no timing with Flacco (sometimes what looks like it should work just doesn't) and I would for sure take Boldin over Aiken. But... Wallace and Perrimen together with Smith Sr. and Watson Could be the best group of all time. It will be very interesting (and fun to watch) if they all gel.
Maxx Williams is the guy we are sleeping on. He is a mismatch for everyone and has great hands. I expect year 2 to be much more successful.
Cleveland will never trade with us after they let us move up one pick only to take Haloti Ngata in the Draft. They paid for the decision twice a year for a long time.
Stanley might not be the plug and play guy we want. He could take a year or two to develop. His footwork does not match up with a premier LT and he would be a huge reach at 6. If we traded back and got him, I could deal with it. But Bosa, Jack, and Hargreaves will all have more of an impact, and we have not addressed the defense enough yet.
You will be as soon a he smokes his first DB for a 60 yard TD. What people don't understand is that Wallace is not even being asked to be the number 1, and he hasn't played with a big arm QB since he left Pitt. SSR will draw the majority of the attention, and Wallace will run free. Perriman and Aiken will keep everyone fresh. This is a deadly passing attack if you factor in Watson, Gillmore, and Williams. We need to shore up the O-Line. I'm hoping an established vet becomes available this offseason and wants to play for a winner. Myles Jack, Bosa, or Hargreaves will go a long way to help our defense.
I already explained Aiken was the longest standing VET. Therefore he became the No. 1 with injuries to Smith and Perriman. Aiken had targets in 11 games was active for 16 games in 2014. Butler was only active for 8 games had targets in every game he played. Butler was also more productive: He had a higher YPC, and higher completion percentage when targeted. And watch how Perriman just walks into the No. 2 spot above Aiken after all of his hard work and production last year. A high draft pick is given so many more opportunities to make it. You are ignoring the truth.
Aiken only got reps due to injuries (Perriman & Smith) and being the last Vet standing. Don't act like the unheralded guys get the same chances as a high draft pick. Aiken also made the most of his opportunities. Butler's 1st year on the active roster was more productive than Aiken's 1st year as a Raven 2014. I think they will both be quality starters in this league. Wallace fits a need as deep threat depth and takes some pressure off of Perriman.
A bum who averages 7 TD's a year, 15.2 YPC, and runs a sub 4.4 40... His last three seasons were spent on a rich contract in schemes that did not fit his style of play, with QB's who can't throw deep. We will get him vertical a heck of a lot more than Minnesota or Miami. Flacco has a cannon and we convert a ton of deep passes. We lost Boldin, Torrey, and Jacoby. We add Smith Sr., Wallace, and Perriman. I like where this is going...
