Monroe was fools gold. He had played well under his first contract in Jacksonville and was considered at Top 10 LT when we signed him. Jacksonville had inside info that they would never reveal about Monroe while trying to trade him for picks, but it all makes sense in hindsight. I think Monroe checked out after he got his big contract. He clearly feels slighted by the way the NFL handles injuries and didn't feel risking his health was really worth it. His guaranteed money was enough to feed his family for generations.
This is the biggest risk you take signing/trading for a guy that needs his 2nd contract in the NFL.. I would rather sign an aging vet that loves this game and will fight until he can't go anymore. Eg. Mason, Boldin, Smith SR, Pollard, Dumervil, Daryl Smith, etc.
