  1. Didn't they just shell out substantial $ for Powers? Thought he was going to get a shot to beat out Wright. Seems a bit ridiculous to label a "CB" either an INSIDE or OUTSIDE guy. If you can cover someone better than the other guy, you should start wherever.

A slot WR will run different routes like slants and drags that are designed to lose DBs in the wash of LBs, RBs, and TEs that may be within 5 yds of the LoS. Yes the nickel guy could line up anywhere, but a DT who specializes in stuffing the run can line up at DE and rush the passer too, they're both DL afterall. The difference here is nitch ability and effectiveness. Powers is really good in the nickel position and he also plays outside well. Time will tell where Canady is best suited, good luck to him.

  2. I don't see how someone who only had only 3 picks their WHOLE COLLEGE CAREER is expected to be this big turnover machine in the pros. I think he is over-rated. I'm not saying he isn't good or worth taking at #6 but personally, I'd rather have Hargreaves.

He has the "tools" to create turnovers. To his credit, it is hard to intercept the ball if no one throws at you. I like the kid, he is a vicious hitter and has a knack for being around the ball. I suspect that all of this talk is mute anyway and that your desire for Hargreaves is more probable.

  3. This type of article is why I think Bisciotti came out and stroked the ego of Monroe publicly. He has to be able to read and he has to be able to figure out that if the Ravens have any choice whatsoever in keeping him, they won't, but, they don't want to waste a top 6 pick on a left tackle, so he is plan D and he knows it. Given the choice, I would buy into Clady who is still a vet but is much better than Ferguson and more reliable than Monroe. I think everyone agrees that it is Monroe's ability to stay on the field that hurts him, he is a fair run blocker and an above average pass blocker. We need to keep Joe upright and Hurst is not an option so we will need to continue to stroke Monroe's ego unless and until we find someone else because last thing we want is to be stuck with Monroe and he goes down with a mystery injury. He did have shoulder surgery so there is hope he can hang this year.

I agree with what you have said. In addition, given his injury history and how enamored we are NOT with our T depth it would be irresponsible to not look at other options.

  4. I don't know if a lot of people forgot or what. T Rich started 15 games and ran for 956 yds with 11 TDs as a rookie adding 367 yds on 51 receptions. Only 9 runners had more yards this year and no one had more rushing TDs. He was the next coming of Jim Brown and then a new regime traded him because he was more valuable as picks than as a runner to them. If I told you our starting runner would put up 1300 scrimmage yards and 11 scores before any other RB stepped on the field you would take that in a heartbeat. I understand that he looked horrible the last couple of years but (insert poor system/poor o-line/not enough time argument here).

I'm saying to forget about sliced bread, but people saying this guy is a loser seem to have forgotten playing against him. The guy should be motivated to silence his haters and if we benefit from that than everyone wins! I think it is a low risk - high reward move on our part. Good luck Trent wherever you land.

  5. I didn't even consider letting Upshaw go to cancel out the Weddle signing but that seems like a smart move, though Upshaw hasn't exactly gotten a lot of attention so far. I largely agree with Zrebec, all 4 of our signings so far - Weddle, Wallace, Wright, and Watson (that's a lot of Ws) - are first class but Wallace is not a long term solution at WR, Watson is only staying for a year or two at his age, Wright played well at the end of last year but there's no telling how he'll do moving forward and depth is still a must, Weddle was a big and did cancel out our need for a safety which was a need, although I don't think was a big one. Great signings but we are in dier need for oline depth, I hope a signing will come there soon - just depth, I'm not advocating we shell out for someone.

I agree. I think that we are in a good position to use our normal FA strategy and pick up good players that get cut while using the draft to find some good depth/potential starters in the early rounds. I've been really excited by our FA moves this year.
