Love the guy, but meritocracy has become a theme lately. In fact tell me one play maker on the ravens that isn't coming off a severe injury. Can't name one. And the coaches that have left haha. Of course Pagano, Rex Ryan , and Mrvin Lewis. But its not them. When you have Reed, Ray Lewis, Nagta, and Suggs it will make any coach look good. Havent seen too many coaches signed since than. And Bernard Pallard, what a play maker, unlike Hill, but of course Harbough did away with that, he wanted a coach able team. Well now u have it, and without your iconic payers, see how you do now. The Ravens are soft. Hope it changes.

We never broke Ngatas heart, he was by far the most greediest player I think the Ravens ever had. I mean he held out on his rookie contract lol and then two more times, I think we had to franchise him twice. As much as people may hate me for saying this, but I was happy when Ngata left, all he cared about was money.

Holy smokes, KO got a ton of money. Guess we should concentrate on locking up Brandon Williams, so we don't see him go next year. And I have a feeling the Ravens don't want to bring Upshaw back. Maybe they think this guy Zadarius Smith will take over nicely, and contribute better in pass rush.

There is nothing wrong with freeing up cap space and pushing the cap hit down the line. Realistically you only do this with players that you believe will be good down the road, as the typical outcome is usually an extension being worked out to flatten the cap hit. Ravens are not the only team to use this tactic, but as I said you only really see this move with 'safe' players, who's value will still be there down the road. Yea, I mean I understand they want to free up cap space and if the Ravens were a legitimate contender with a shot at a Superbowl run, I would be all for it, as so they can put the best team on the field. But with the amount of holes the Ravens have, it just doesn't make sense for them to do it at this time. They are going with a win now approach, but unfortunately we are short too many pieces and 14 mill isn't going to solve the Ravens problems. Trying to be as unpessimistic as possible but sometimes it's hard hah

Are the Ravens back to pushing money down the road. Impossible to fill all the holes this year and I hope it is not at the expense of the Ravens future. One restructure is one thing, but two? I guess they want the most COMPETITIVE TEAM, but the Ravens seem like a two year project not one (maybe, maybe playoffs, but realistically I doubt we win the AFC North, so I don't understand the restructures now, given this has to be looked as a rebuilding year). This does not make too much sense......but what do I know

Can't believe Osemeli got 11 mill. Also shocked to see Upshaw may be leaving. I suppose we need to get faster on the D line anyhow, but that is a bummer. I thought for sure the Ravens could work out a 3-3.5 mill a year contract to keep Upshaw here. I wonder what the Colts are paying.

Yea supposedly this guy Tunsil is a stud, maybe if he is there at 4 the ravens move up to get him, assuming we won't deplete too many draft picks doing that. Not sure if Stanley is worth #6, they say he could be a minor project whereas Tunsil would be a plug and chug.

Yea supposedly the Ravens are very high on Hargreaves and should def be there at number six. Would love to get a pass rusher, but with the holes on the Ravens, the best player available scenario seems to make sense and we need more corners. With Jimmy, Hargreaves and Wright playing for at least 3 more years together would be pretty cool. Hopefully this defense see's a little light, since it has been dark times since Ed Reed and Ray vacated.

Not really. Right now Kamar Aiken is our number one receiver. We have no idea how SSS is going to come back from injury and Breshad Perriman is still unproven. The rest of the list is mediocre at best. If they were any good I am sure we would have seen it. Companaro is great in the slot, but is not healthy ever, and is still unproven in my opinion.

KO, is really interesting. I wonder if teams will pay top tackle money to a guard that only started 4 games at the tackle position. It is really hard to fathom teams paying anything north of 10 mill per year. But like every year, teams will overpay.

I am not sure why people keep referring to the second half of the season as being a success lol What happened to the first half, I would have to say last year was the worst defense in a very very long time. All in all good signing, I am glad to see the Ravens are signing their own free agents and hopefully we can keep Monroe. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the Ravens took this guy Hargreaves, supposedly the Ravens have him ranked extremely high, and that would be great to have those 3. And maybe we keep Arrington, and use him where he excels (not the outside Pees) although Webb was such a liability that I guess they felt more comfortable having Arrington on the outside, which says what about Webb? Hopefully we could get a free safety. Love Webb, but you have to at least count him absent for at least 4 games of the season. At least that is what his track record has been. All in all sigh hah, so many pieces, guess we can really only address one at a time. I am ready for draft time.

its all about the dollars I really doubt other teams would offer Upshaw more than 3 mill average a year. I mean he is a situation player and his value is def worth more to the Ravens than any other team. And I really hope we can keep KO, Im sure this is priority number one for the Ravens. Losing KO would be a real bummer for sure

You do realize the franchise offer he's getting paid this year is probably less than what he would get if he had a long term deal. So him signing the franchise offer helps our cap situation better than a deal. Haha, I was just joking. And a long term deal is way better for the franchise than a franchise tag. The hits get spread out and only a portion is guaranteed. Also, by paying him this year we save money, cause I am sure his value goes even higher next year

Come on you little jerk, just sign a long term deal. I would think the process wouldn't be overwhelming given the highest paid kicker still makes peanuts in comparison to other positions...........but we could use a little more cap space

Joe's cap hits for the first three years of his post super bowl deal were $6.8M, $14.8M, $14.5M. Why on earth would you want to strap us more in years with a smaller cap than the current one by making his capnumbers north of $20M all three of those years instead? How would that have helped us back then? There's no question that when the time came Joe would be ready to negotiate a new extension, so why would you NOT give him a backloaded contracted to maximize your cap space and go after more trophies? We did do things right the first time. Are you serious? Then we would be back in the same position we are in now and would end up paying more in the long run. So so happy this contract is not backloaded. Remember you can't just buy a team. Besides, the holes the Ravens have, we could have a 100 mill in cap space and still have holes (hopefully I am wrong of course)

Technically true, but he's still probably gonna get a new extension in 2020. $28M on a single player is a steep price no matter who it is, always wanna smooth that out if you can. I don't think so, his cap numbers seem pretty even, and 28 mill this year is a lot of dough, but three years from now I don't think will be bad at all. Also, I think his final year carries zero dead money which I think is interesting. All in all, def happy with this contract.........happy it is not back loaded, and there will be no more surprises

I was thinking 2.5-3 mill max a year would be a good number for Upshaw. Can't really see teams paying more due to his sack numbers. And I am hoping Kelechi doesn't want anything north of 9. I think the Ravens would def bring him back at 8-9 mill a year. I am curious of what their previous offer was. It would be great if we could resign all of our important free agents and try to keep this team together.

Does anyone know the details of this extension? Meaning does anyone know the yearly cap hits. I know this year is around 22 mil cap hit

Well, yes and no. It was always designed to be a three year deal, but the whole concept of keeping his cap numbers small in the short term backfired, considering it didn't really help us from a W/L perspective. We've been basically a .500 team in the three years with low cap numbers, which wasn't the goal when we set out to do it. The new extension will have much higher cap numbers across the board, and you certainly won't see anything near the large annual increases that we've seen in the past. He will have cap numbers north of $20M every year from here on out... something he's yet to have in his entire career. Well I always bashed the Ravens organization for the back loaded contracts, and cap situation. But I learned Flacco is different. It wasn't the Ravens that wanted really low cap hits and then a huge spike, that was how Joe Flacco and his agent wanted it. It is a safety net for Joe and his agent, because they know in 3 years they are both getting more guaranteed money, and zero possibility that Joe would get traded or released. With Ozzy saying he may eat the money this year........which by the way, is not what Joe or Linta wanted, which is why they scheduled the contract this way, I am hoping for more even cap hits, even if they are north of 20 mill a year. Looking at what couzins and Bradfor just got I guess noone can really complain.
