I just think he's raw. He showed speed on the tape. I see the closing speed he has. I just hate the angles he takes, he's in good position to make the play several time but he just gets away from technique to make the play. He can be so much better with good coaching

I'll have to watch more but if we're going S in the second, there are options that I love (namely Justin Evans and Budda Baker), but Melifonwu is just a guy unitl I see more.

Just watched obi melifonwu vs usf. He's got the potential to be great. But man is he frustrating to watch, and it's just little thing he needs to work on. The potential is there

I was very disappointed with his usf tape (only one I've watched so far). He takes horrible angles and is very suspect in jos tackles. Gets beaten over the top at times, placement is just bad. I didn't even see that much speed, which he is known for.

I only stated since this isn't a domestic violence situation which it has been consistently called  and happened two years ago would The Ravens consider Joe Mixon. This is  not me making light of the situation and  me calling his past troubling  or him having a "troubled past" is not me saying it's ok but if you or others want to call  it more than that then why not.  If anybody felt offended by my previous statement  then I apologize especially to the women that participate or read these forums. My aim was not  to make light of the situation but look at in a logical  point of view and overall get feed back but maybe I shouldn't have said anything at all.

No, okay, I didn't mean to say anything about you, but I don't see how this isn't DV. He punched a woman in the face, period. It's basically Rice, except the girl wasn't his gf, which doesn't change anything. He's a heck of a talent but we just won't be the one to touch him.

Public perception is that this was domestic violence situation which it was not. I saw the video where the woman jump up to him and hit him   and then he proceeded to act out in a inappropriate manner. This also happened  in 2014 and that would make him about 18 years old at the time when this incident happened. Since The Ravens stated they will not have interest in players that have a history with domestic violence but won't shy away  from players with a troubled past, it makes me wonder if they will consider  a guy like Joe Mixon who had a off the field incident when he was a  teenager.

So, because it didn't happen in a house or with his wife, it's OK to straight up destroy a woman's face and call it «troubled past»?

I honestly don't like smoot. His film doesn't do him much service

I agree he's raw but he has good physical tools and work ethic to improve. My biggest question mark on him is his hands usage, but for a second rounder this is good value and make no mistake, he's still a guy that will win one on ones in the NFL.

Smoot doesn't seem like a fit but you never know. It was a practical mock draft, nothing that seems as if it were a 'no way that happens' kinda pick.

I get what you're saying but we like to convert «stockier» DE into OLB that we can move around. Our ED guys aren't typically lengthy and Smoot fits the bill on a physical stand point.

Alright so everyone's pointing out the guys at the top. All the talent but the flaws that could make them bust.

What about the later round guys who have crazy upside??

Im not a huge college football fan so I've just started evaluating prospects over the past month or so (since the Ravens season ended) and am looking for more lesser known guys that have huge upside.

What say you Ravens fans? Who are your diamonds in the rough potential late boom prospects?

KD Cannon doesn't get any love but he's as explosive as John Ross.

Derek Rivers is a small school guy but such a natural pass rusher it's uncanny.

Not sure he declared but Quin Blanding can become, special.

Since Howard was just brought up...

What player(s) in the first do think are realistic but you'd be somewhat surprised if we pick them?

I was just thinking about OJ Howard and I would be extremely surprised if he's our pick either at 16 or after a trade back. But I think it's a realistic pick that Ozzie might make if both top WRs are gone since, at least at the moment, our receiving corps is pretty lukewarm. I actually don't much like Howard's fit with us, he's a very dynamic talent but the way we've always used TEs, or at least how Flacco's always utilized TEs, is tough catches over the middle of the field and i question whether Howard's hands are good enough to be that guy to make catches above his head with guys draped over him. But, that being said, he's a great blocker - and by all accounts we want to run the ball first and foremost - and, as I said, Howard is a phenomenal athlete at his size with both speed and power. I don't want him to be the pick, I'd most likely not have him as BPA, but it seems like a possible route we could go.

I'd also file Jabrill Peppers in this category. I don't like his fit with us, I think he needs to be a weakside LB in the 4-3 in the same vein as Barron or Bucannon, but he's, again, a phenomenal athlete and he's got instincts around the line of scrimmage. Not to mention he also solves our revolving door at returner as well. Again, to me, he seems like a pick that Ozzie might make even though he's not one of the guys that I'd want.

Not sure about Joe always asking his TE to make difficult catches. For most of the year he checked it down countless times to Pitta. Howard can turn those check downs into first downs. And as said above, he's a nightmare in the seam.

There is no chance on this earth we should and will take OJ Howard at 16. There is no value there and a dozen prospects that fill bigger needs and might be more talented at their positions as well. Howard is a physical specimen but that does not mean production.

We have glaring needs at CB and Pass rush, plus we need OL. Those top-tier CBs are going to fly off the board, so if we take a TE then take a CB, then we will have some iffy middle of the pack edge guy that might just fall into the Z. smith category.

I would literally rather take Harris, Feeney, Jones, Baker, Davis, Tim Williams, maybe even Robinson too.

Wut? Howard is easily one of the most complete players in the draft, he's a top10 talent and is great value at 16.

this may be irrelevant to 2017, but i just wanna say, saquan barkley looks better than any back in this class.

just saw him for the first time and holy hell, this boy looks amazing.

I've been saying that the 2018 RB class is going to be amazing as well. Is Barkley better than Cook? I don't know, we'll see, but you add Ronald Jones, Nick Chubb, Royce Freeman, Derrius Guyce, Myles Gaskin, Akrum Wadley... A lot of players that I love.

I didn't say low ceiling, just that it's not as high as some others that are expected to go in the first. He's simply not as good of an athlete as the other edge guys expected to go in the first. He doesn't have that explosive burst, and is unlikely to be able to push back NFL tackles. He has the tenacity and motor you'd want in an edge rusher and shows some ability to help against the run (though due to him not being that big he could get pushed back by some NFL tackles). With time he could mix that tenacity with savvy moves to get around tackles and be a good starter.

I see TJ Watt as the text book example of what you normally look for in the second round, a guy with potential to be a solid starter but won't likely be a top ten player at his position.

Don't see that. He's not the most "boomish" guy with his first step, that is true, but it doesn't mean he isn't a good athlete. He has good length, elite hand placement, quick hand movement to slap back OT's hands, shows very solid bend and speed arond the corner. If what you mean is that he isn't Tim Williams then yes, he isn't. But Bosa gets 10.5 sacks in a short season, and I don't see a better athlete than Watt when watching Bosa. That is to say I truly see a double digit sacks guy in Watt, not just a starter.

Thinking out of the box here- with ALOT of uncertainty at the tight end position- ( pitta and Watson likely being cut- crock  being constantly hurt- the lack of development from maxx...and his injuries- the inexperience of waller - and Boyle getting suspended twice and facing his third strike) what is the possibility of trading back for a guy like OJ Howard? I only bring it up BC I haven't seen anyone mention him or mock him to us ( and probably for a reason) but he has performed extremely well and made huge plays on the biggest stage two years in a row- which is huge. After reading the article on the front page about him molding his game after Ozzie and that he would love to play for us- could this be even a consideration? We know Joe loves  his big targets- and this  guy can catch AND block-  and had one of the most impressive showings at the senior bowl and won the best practice award. Obviously we have much more pressing needs..but could he be a trade back candidate if he's the BPA and we can pick up an extra 2nd with how stacked this years cb and pass rushing class is? I mean if we think he could be the next Jordan reed ( who he reminds me of) I think its def something to think about... Pick up two 2nds and knock out corner and OL...then go pass rusher and receiver with our two thirds... Just a thought!

I don't think we can get gim after a trade back. Honestly I'd be ready to take him at 16, I truly think he would be a hell ofof an addition to our offensesnaps.

Charlie has us taking cam Robinson again.

Cant say I'd hate it, I would actually love the pick under one condition: he turns out to be a better GUARD than feeney and that's where we line him up, and then Lewis is a very good RT. That's a lot of ifs though.

And this is just based on what I've read about him, I haven't watched any of his film

Yeah, kind of the same reaction. Never watched Robinson, but I'll never hate on an OL pick, and from what I read he could be an All Pro RT or G if that's what we want him to be.

Question is do you guys see the Ravens taking a wide receiver in the first 3 rounds if they trade for or sign a veteran receiver? Maybe if Aiken leaves...

Potentially a 3rd on Juju of Ford (if they fall) would make some sense, otherwise I wouldn't hate it but def wouldn't like it either.

There is more of an emphasis on the delusion that Barnett would fall to 28. Taco is good, but any scout could tell ya he might not be the best fit in a 3-4

Drafting based on the fit in a 4-3 or 3-4 is a very bad idea. We play maybe 5% of our snaps in that formation and still, our ED play as much with their hands in the dirt as they do in a 2point stance.

Optimal scenarios where we either trade up or back.

To trade up, to as high as 10 with buffalo, more likely the Eagles who are pick strapped, it would have to be for either, Barnett, Lattimore, Williams, or maybe even dare saying Foster. To move up 2 spots to philly what would it take though? If Dallas asked for a third last year from 6 to 4 then I wouldn't see why it would be any higher. I would do it for any of those prospects, especially Williams and Barnett.

If Barnett,Foster, Williams, Hooker, Adams, Jones, Lattimore are all gone, then I'd def be in favor of trading back. I like Davis and Quincy Wilson, but it would be perfect if we could trade back to the playoff team slots, somewhere between 22-25 and gain maybe a second or a third and a Fourth. This is DAN FEENEY territory. We get this nasty guard and we will  make our line look stacked.

I saw Dan Feeney played a little bit of C at the Senior Bowl and showed good results, so I'd be all in for a trade back to get him as a C.

The site's front page brought up Donnel Pumphrey, and I think he could be a pretty good addition to the Ravens' offense. He'd give the Ravens that big play running back to compliment Dixon and Juice. He also brings versatility, since he can go out wide as a receiver. He could be our Dion Lewis. New clue what round he's projected to go in though.

Yeah, we also talked to him during the week. He can also be a returner. I think he's heavily on Ozzie's radar.

4th round seems to be where you'd want to target him given the mesurables and the heavy workload he's faced.
