The fact that it works for other teams and not us should indicate to an intelligent human that the idea works but our personnel sucks.

You can't just talk about the Ravens in a vacuum and pretend that other teams don't exist because the reality is that other teams do exist and they do things well that we don't do well. The concept of "well, that team isn't us so we shouldn't make a comparison" is flat out stupid. Comparisons set a benchmark and they show you how to improve. Refusing to make a comparison is refusing to look at the bigger picture.

This thread is about advice to the Ravens OC. When you give advice as to what works for the Patriots when our weapons  have different talents does not make sense. Do you expect Dennis Pitta to succeed on the same type of plays that Gronk does? We need to run plays that maximize the talents that our players posess. You seem to be missing my point.

Will point out that 100% of the teams in the league rather routinely throw passes to receivers short of the line of gain on 3rd down, mostly because opposing defenses also know where the line of gain is and usually flood that area with defenders, thus making it difficult to get completions there.

In particular, QBs like Brady and Brees have made quite a career off throwing to receivers short of the line of gain and getting yards after the catch... which is a radical concept to our receiving core based on what I saw last season.

I was not talking about other teams. How did it work for us last year?

  4. I am a big fan of your draft. Your address of lot of needs and for some reason I thought you were a BPA guy. The value in the third round is exceptional. Elflein is a huge upgrade for us at center. I am a fan of Desmond King and would really like him on our roster. He can help at corner but I seeing him eventually being Weddle's replacement. King would also be valuable in the return game where we have a dire need.

    Good job !

  5. I think this year I would not prefer to trade up in the second round. When you consider the depth of talent in this year's draft along with how many holes we have yet to fill giving away a pick does not seem in our best interest. I also feel the more rookie contracts on our roster the better for salary cap management.

I'll straight up call for Ozzie to be fired if we draft McDowell, especially with the flat earth stuff. Not impressed with him at all. But I honestly don't think we go dline early in spite of the worst trade we've ever made. My paitence is wearing thin with Ozzie because frankly, the Jernigan deal was THAT bad, but drafting McDowell would be the icing on the cake. He was not impressive imo.

I have to ask, what was so bad about the Jernigan deal?

  7. This draft would really solidify our defense. I really like King in the third, he could help at cornerback, safety and in the return game. The problem I see with this draft is that it does little to help the offense for the 2017 season. I see Garcia and Morgan as projects that won't help much this year even though they both have good potential. With all the questions lingering around McDowell I feel we could trade back into the latter portion of the first round and still get McDowell and add a second rounder to use on an offensive lineman or receiver.

Robinson is one of the players I would be disappointed with if we used 16 for him.  This just isn't a good OL class, I love this analogy:  Sometimes you don't have to be the hottest girl at the bar, just the only girl.  I feel that applies here, if not, I just wanted to say it.

    I think that's a perfect analogy.

You guys need to go to a better bar.

Also a consideration for jones. Some team may wanna be certain they get 4 years of play out of him before he tests he market, thus making some team take him in the late first. Waiting another round only guarantees 3 years out of his rookie deal and that's of course barring another injury.

Your point about the years of service under a rookie contract is a good one. Rookie contracts are so valuable even though the fifth year option for a first round pick in not always a bargain. Are you saying Sidney Jones would be a top ten pick if he were healthy?

Sidney Jones will likely still be a bottom 10 pick in the first round to the top 10 picks of the second round.

I would be very surprised if Sidney Jones goes before the third round. With so many healthy quality db's available in this draft he could easily fall.

  11. McDowell can be a beast if his head is on straight, I am sure the front office has checked on his attitude. Witherspoon could be the steal of the draft in the third round. I like Elflein but not in the second, I would rather see us go for an edge rusher or receiver with that pick.

I don't understand why Jeremy Zuttah's dead money is still with the Ravens since he was traded. Shouldn't his contract go with him to SF?

Zuttah's salary will transfer to the 49ers. The signing is spread over the length of the contract with a portion hitting the salary cap each year. The remaining portion of the signing bonus does not transfer to the 49ers, it is ours to absorb.
