  1. If we bring Wright back (and I think we will), then I'd much rather get a high-octane DE that can pressure the quarterback. I think Wright & Smith, Hill & Webb, and either Davis or Webb in the nickel is already an upgrade over what we started with last year. Any improvement from Elam or Walker only reinforces that. Pass rush isn't that deep.
  2. Jaylon Smith on crutches: 2nd or 3rd round. Jaylon Smith off crutches: #6 pick. Michael Thomas: being nice to ANYONE, early 2nd. Being Keyshawn: pass... well, maybe if he drops to the 4th. Noah Spence: good interview, first round maybe even #6. Josh Gordon clone, not so much. Robert Nkemdiche: all of the above. As far as actual numbers go, I'd like to see if Reggie Ragland or A'Shawn Robinson have plus speed for their positions. If we think they can get into the backfield consistently, I could see them moving up our board.
  3. I"m not making that argument. I'm trying to nutshell-paraphrase the Rams fans in that link that were saying Goff isn't worth that kind of boldness.
  4. Well, the second guy who replied to that thread would give them to us for Wentz. So I'm hoping he's in their front office. Seriously though. There's a lot of negativity about giving away the future, like an RGIII scenario. And they say there are other holes to fill. But I wouldn't describe the tone of that thread as "just Goff and nobody else". The combine could change perception. Though they certainly seem to hate their current roster. I might take that trade. I happen to like Mason as much as Allen and more than anyone else. And I don't think we have Forsett for too many more years. It'd still give us 2 second round picks (ours and one of theirs) to chase WRs and CBs. Brian Quick could fill more of a need though.
  5. I completely agree. But I think it should have concerned Chip Kelly BEFORE last year. I got the impression it didn't. So I'm curious to see if that's a "solution" to the situation he has in SF. No other team mind you, but possibly SF.
  6. I noticed ESPN's most recent mock draft had him going in that mid-teens range as well (I think 18?). So I see your point about the Eagles being a better choice than the Rams. But I don't understand why he would go in that part of the draft. If the knee is healthy, it seems way too low. If it isn't, it seems like he'd fall back to the end of the first or early in the second. If he's healthy enough for the Bears and Raiders, why not just take him at #6?
  7. Crazy thought. Isn't Sam Bradford a free agent? Does anyone value Bradford more than Chip Kelly seemed to?
  8. A top ten pick is not priceless, especially not this year. A Top 3 pick might be, maybe. But a top 10 is only a few percentage points more likely to work out than middle or late in the first round. It's only necessary if a team thinks there's someone they absolutely must have. We probably don't have any one player like that. The Rams really could. So it's worth discussing.
  9. I could see Osweiler getting a better deal with another team. I'm guessing Denver won't want to give him the money of a starter if Peyton is coming back next year. Some other team might. Denver could use the franchise tag on him (makes sense), but they might need it for Von Miller. I'm sure Osweiler's agent will be talking to the Rams and Browns, and probably the Eagles as well.
  10. Just so we're clear: is Winchester talking about next year's first round pick, or this year's, the #15. I think he's saying the Rams won't give up #15 plus two second round picks for #6. I'm not sure everyone is disagreeing on the same thing.
  11. Did his knee surgeon?
  12. The accuser refused to testify, which is why there was no trial. I found an interview where he described himself as "exonerated". I'm not sure that's the same thing. Either way, with so much press about it, I don't think we take him.
  13. Heck with it. I'm going Sonny Weaver, Jr. on this thread. Jaylon Smith, no matter what.
  14. I don't think we have to take anything less. What's the worse that could happen for us? We're stuck taking Alexander at 6? Oh darn.
  15. For our next Aiken/Steve Smith Sr., I'm okay with that. Let Perriman be the speed threat. And we still have a spare 2nd round pick to grab more speed! Let's say this happens: Treadwell at 15, our 2nd round pick plus two from St. Louis. Who's our pass rusher in the 2nd or 3rd?
  16. Remember everything I said about not taking Treadwell at 6? If he's there at 15 I'm bullrushing the podium.
  17. You don't understand how thrilled I'd be with Elliott in the first and 3 picks in the second. We could still get a legit CB and WR in the next round. I'm not certain where we'd get a pass rusher, but we'd still have a pick in the 2nd and 3rd to go get one. Meanwhile, we just gave Trestman a younger version of Matt Forte for his offense. Forsett grooming Elliott, Allen, and maybe West? Absolutely. I like the way Robinson completely screws up whatever the offensive line wanted to do. I know he wasn't a pass rusher in college; he didn't need to be. But I think we could move him to DE and at the very least replace Canty Week 1. He brings disruption that we just don't have on the line right now. So yeah. Either of those two plus both of the Rams' picks in the 2nd? I'm good.
  18. I made a list of 15 guys, not including quarterbacks, that could go early. So if we traded back with the Rams, then at least two of these people would be available to us at 15 (more likely 3 (Cleveland goes QB) or 4 (Dallas does too)). 1 Bosa 2 Ramsey 3 Tunsil 4 Stanley 5 Buckner 6 Jack 7 Smith 8 Spence 9 Hargreave 10 Treadwell 11 Alexander 12 Ragland 13 Robinson 14 Elliott 15 Billings Jack, Ragland, and Billings probably aren't the best fit. But like I said, at least two of these guys WILL be there if we trade back to 15.
  19. I could see Dallas taking someone to replace Greg Hardy. I'm sure they'd take Bosa, I think they'd take Buckner. But my real fear is that they do trade back to get Ezekiel Elliott to take the pressure off of Romo. We'd lose a potential trade partner, but maybe that just puts even more pressure on someone else to trade up as well.
  20. Spence, Fuller, and then Shepard in the 3rd is the most I'm hoping for; I'd be very happy with that and it seems realistic. Your last sentence reminds me of something: if we don't get Ramsey (Hargreave, or Alexander) in the first, there's maybe Apple, Fuller, and Burns in the 2nd. I'm not sold there's a backup Spence in the 2nd without some good luck.
  21. My bad. Somehow I thought he was. Though maybe Chicago still wants a QB because he's still Cutler/
  22. The one who isn't getting advice from Keyshawn Johnson? Seriously, right now I think Thomas is probably more talented. But he'd have to show me a lot of maturity in the interviews.
  23. I'd add Houston to that list. Da Bears might be on there as well EDIT: or not. We only need one of them to panic. Having said that, there are some non-draft solutions. Kaepernick is probably available, as well as RGIII. Fitzpatrick and Cutler are free agents EDIT: except not Cutler, someone could see them as a starter. Dallas and the Saints may think they have time to develop a player, so it's not a first round concern. But even conservatively, it looks like 4 teams could want 3 QBs in the first round. How certain are we Dallas will take a QB in the first? If they trade back we're back to square 1.
  24. He has a blemish on his record: assault against a woman on campus. She dropped charges. But of all the things the Ravens aren't likely to overlook.... I think we have to rule him out.
  25. Having a thin QB class is pretty much why this works for us. If Cleveland and Dallas both take QBs, then someone is going to overreact to get the third one. The only problem I see is that a 4th quarterback could do something to raise his stock (maybe at the combine?), or Dallas trades back with the Eagles or Rams and we lose our market for #6.
