  1. Ryan Grigson is out as general manager of the Colts after five years. (AP)

Well here’s a somewhat surprising one for a mid-January afternoon: via multiple reports, the Indianapolis Colts have fired general manager Ryan Grigson.

It’s another odd decision by owner Jim Irsay, who waited until a disappointing regular season for the Colts had been over for three weeks before making the move, and just days before league personnel executives, scouts and coaches will descend on Mobile, Ala. for the Senior Bowl.

Irsay may have bungled things for the second straight year. After the 2015 season, amid multiple reports of turmoil between Grigson and head coach Chuck Pagano, who were both hired in 2012, not only did Irsay decide to keep the pair, he tied them to one another for even longer, awarding both with four-year extensions.

See,,Colts are taking risks! Why couldn't the Ravens do the same? Like Firing Haubaugh and Dean Pees.

  2. Tim Lincecum is preparing for one more shot at pitching glory

It’s startling sometimes just how fleeting success and stardom can be in baseball.

Former San Francisco Giants ace Tim Lincecum knows that all too well. The former two-time National League Cy Young award winner and three-time World Series champion was once poised to become an all-time great and potential Hall of Famer. Then the wear and tear brought on by years of competing and firing baseballs past the best hitters in the world started catching up to him, bringing him to his present day predicament.

Now 32, Lincecum is no longer a star. He’s not a major leaguer either. And to be honest, he’s barely on the radar for teams hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with similar reclamation projects.

It’s been that remarkable of a fall. One that surpasses his rise to stardom in distance traveled. But to Lincecum’s credit, he’s not ready to give up. Not yet.

As Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reported Friday, Lincecum’s agent, Rick Thurman, says his client “is throwing and getting ready for the season.”That means the fact that no one is calling hasn’t stopped Lincecum from pushing to make what seems impossible now a reality later.

Now you wonder why the O's lose? Its because of PETER ANGELOS! He wont even take a shot with bringing Tim Lincecum to Baltimore. Theres an old saying NO RISK,NO REWARD! Look how the Cubs took risks and they won the World Series. When Peter Angelos wont re-sign Jake Aretta he went to the Cubs and became the best pitcher in Baseball. Like i sad before,,Why don't O's fans learn from Baltimore Colts fans by not going to camden yards and two things will happen. One he could sell the team. Two he could move them to Montreal. SO WHAT! LET EM MOVE! And we will get a better team to Baltimore and we can go watch the World Series in Baltimore again. Look how Baltimore stole the Browns from Cleveland,, We saw two Super Bowl championships and the Ravens are a much better organization than the Colts organization. Who knows? When the O's wind up in Montreal maybe the Dodgers will come to Camden Yards and became the Baltimore Dodgers and then we can watch World Series in Baltimore again.

  3. The Pittsburgh Steelers may not have a full night of sleep as they go into the biggest game of their season.

According to reports, the Steelers and other guests of a Boston-area hotel were forced to evacuate at 3 a.m. Sunday after a man pulled a fire alarm.

Emergency crews responded to the scene as the guests had to leave the hotel in the middle of the night. According to CBS Pittsburgh, the alarms went off for about 30 minutes before emergency crews declared it a false alarm and allowed guests to return to their rooms.

When i was on another Ravens forum back in 2007 i suggested how Baltimore fans could help the Ravens vs Colts playoffs game. When the Colts were in at the Marriott. That was to drive down the hotel at 4AM drive around the block and Blow horns. And when you do that it wakes up the players. Fans didn't want to do that. It was good strategy to help our Ravens though. If Steelers lose today its our fans fault for not taking my suggestion back in 2007

  4. Heres another idea,,Why not do it like the NHL does it? Ever watched a hockey game on TV? Right around when a player shots the puck other side of rink its called icing. Then TV goes on a break just for 30 seconds til the face off. Why not when theres a change of possession after a field goal or a TD then you can only take a 30 second time out and then back on air when kickoff begins.

I don't think for a second commercials are the reason someone won't tune into an entire game.

Who said you aren't allowed to talk about the business of TV? I started a thread about the demise of ESPN where it discusses all of this.   My belief was the election,  not Kap.   I really don't get what your talking about.

Quality of games seemed pretty bad to me as well, not too many Thursday, Monday,  or Sunday night games I was this excited for.

Mods warned me about certain things not to bring up on this forum. I gotta becareful here.

  6. Are too many commercial breaks really behind the NFL's declining ratings?

It’s really, really rare for an NFL owner to suggest he and his brethren accept less money for the good of the league.

So we at least have to take Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti’s suggestion seriously.

Bisciotti said that the NFL has too many commercial breaks, and that’s what has been affecting NFL ratings.

“It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that nobody wants to see two minutes of commercials, come back, kick the ball and then go to a minute-and-a-half of commercials,” Bisciotti told the Ravens’ website. “I’ve thought that was absurd since I was 20 years old.”

Then Bisciotti answered the obvious follow-up question: If you cut down on commercials, doesn’t that mean less income for the NFL? Bisciotti acknowledged it would cut into the NFL’s bottom line, and he’s fine with that.

“We’ve got to figure that out,” Bisciotti told the Ravens’ site. “Again, if you change that, it could mean a reduction in income, but that’s going to hit the players more significantly than it’s going to hit the owners. I still don’t know any owner that’s in this business because of the money.

See i told why ratings are declining,, Im not allowed to discuss the business of television here its against the rules. But i can say its not about Kappernick sitting down during the National Anthem.

  7. The Orioles middle infield may not be as good as they think it is

Both Jonathan Schoop and J.J. Hardy are fan favorites in Birdland. They do come with some downsides, however.

If you ask the average Orioles-follower if they’re hesitant about Jonathan Schoop and J.J. Hardy being the middle infield duo for their ball club, I doubt you’ll find many who would answer with a yes. After all, the Schoop/Hardy duo has been a staple for seemingly forever now (only three years, but who’s counting?) — they’re Baltimore fan-favorites, and for good reason.

    <snip>

The idea is simple. The current Orioles middle infield duo contains plenty of sentimental value to fans. But in the grand scheme of things, are Hardy and Schoop in danger of holding the team back in 2017?

  8. Extraordinary moment enormous alligator strolls past tourists in Florida

Stunned tourists have captured the moment a huge alligator strolled past visitors at a nature reserve in Florida.

Footage shows the enormous creature – thought to be about 12ft long – looking relaxed as it walked past families at the reserve in Lakeland.

The reptile ignored awe-struck visitors who stood filming him just metres away.

According to the Polk Nature Discovery Centre Facebook group, the alligator’s name is Humpback.

Kim Joiner, who shared the video, described it as “nature at its best”.
