  1. Just have him take some snaps from Smith or something. He's our 2nd round pick and barely EVER saw the field. If he's so bad he can't even get on the field in counting it as another one of Ozzies busts.

Very good assessment!! Daryl Smith plays smart but he is slow and and may even retire. He needs to be replaced anyways. Is Arthur that guy?? Brown is the more likely of the 2 lbs to help the team next year unless he is that terrible they do not want him on the field. In that case he should of been cut already!! If they feel there is any potential at all then he needs to get reps!! Otherwise cut him. Unless, Ozzie does not want to cut him because it makes him look bad being he traded up to get Arthur. He is fast and athletic, nothing helps a player more than reps. Unless his instincts, angles, and physicality is that terrible he will never be a good player regardless of reps. I do think Mosley has the speed and athleticism to rebound in coverage. Mosley is as fast as Arthur.

  3. It is time to reboot the defense and team

when fans are talking and hoping zadarius Smith is some kind of building block or cornerstone for a future dominant defense. I like him better than I ever did Upshaw(I said he is a colossal bust\scrub from the jump) but I do not see him as an impact defender. Productive but not impact. Now Bud Dupree is a dude the fo should have targeted!! He is a super hero playing with mortals. He was called raw but I said he would get 6-8 sacks as a rookie on sheer raw talent, power and explosion. Looks like he will exceed my expectations. He would have been an awesome replacement for T.S. As for Zadarius he has some potential. Heavy hands, and tackler, decent athleticism for a 280 lb player, plays hard but if the goal is a championship he will leave you wanting a little more and staring at, admiring and lusting after the prettier rush olbs out there. Just my $.02.

  4. I know a lot of people seem encouraged by how much dead money will go off our books after this year. What they are forgetting is what new dead money is likely to be thrown right back on our books when we try to form our 2016 squad.

Pitta and Webb are a major issues, as it just doesn't appear that either can perform to the level of their contracts. Any decision on Pitta may be out of our hands, given he could still decide to retire. Webb is a tougher call, simply because of how desperate our needs are at CB.

I know cutting these guys would create a lot of dead money, but if they can't play with any regularity, their salaries are effectively even larger dead money, not to mention dead roster spots.

Thankfully, the escalators on most of our vets aside from Flacco don't involve big jumps in 2016. Doom, Jimmy and Monroe all had their big jumps occur this past year. But no matter how you slice it, I think we're going to have cap issues due to dead money or money tied up in players who do not bring that value on the field for at least another year or two.

Thank you. Finally somebody who can see the big picture. Ozzie has the ravens a hot mess!! Huge gusrsnteed $$ on the books for aging players, injured players and eratic players. Being competitive with this kind of cap space is leaning on successful drafting. And the drafting has been so terrible that fans are applauding serviceable players as something to get excited about. They can not be very active in free agency because of cap Hits. And it is not just Ray Rice like everybody is saying. It is many players that will not perform to their cap hit or play with the ravens at all!. Suggs and Dumervil will be in their mid 30s. Monroe,Daryl Smith,Webb,Ngata, jimmy is not playing to par and not to mention the smaller contracts. The sports networks are beginning to label the ravens a bad team. And using the reload word. As for free agency it looks as if it will fall on Joe cool to take the paycut to put an established young WR on the team. On the bright side there are only 2 ravens free agents any respectable team would actually be interested in keeping. Tucker and Osemele. If you notice many are defensive players. If the ravens can keep the oline intact and Monroe returns to form and they add a legit WR the offense could be able to carry the defense. My opinion a legit #1 WR would help the team more than anything because Joe can score points with any other qb if he has weapons around him.

  5. Who specifically have you seen proclaim Williams to be the next Rob Gronkowski? I'm interested in hearing which members the comment is geared towards. Of course Williams isn't an elite TE. There hasn't been a rookie TE in recent memory who was viewed among the absolute best within the first few weeks of the season. I'd personally prefer to believe that a 2nd round selection isn't assessed via the pass/fail method based on whether he carves his name alongside of three of the best mismatch-creating TEs of their era when in their prime. Twenty pounds would drop him into the 220s, which is a bit preposterous. He could stand to be leaner, yes. He's always lacked an extra gear and there's a significant chance that he never develops one. But your assessments of his physique are crassly exaggerated. He's likely one of the younger players in the entire league and you're continuously berating him for not establishing property dietary planning despite the fact that few players at his age have the matter entirely figured out. There's a significant difference between being hard on a player and having hilariously unreasonable expectations. I feel that a theme alert should be required on the latter.

As adamant as you were about judging a specific player by how he fares on the field, you've shown a willful disregard in this scenario in lieu of several photographs and an article dating several months back. Based on your comments of perpetual disappointment, it begs to wonder whether you've observed much of him at all through the first several weeks. I posted a minor breakdown of his performance some time last week with over a half-dozen .gifs that illustrated his effectiveness. I then posted another brief yet favorable assessment of how he's fared in other games as well as a detailed evaluation of our somewhat unconventional TE usage, which has been partly responsible for the fact that we've targeted our trio just combined 10 times on 10+ yard throws. He's shown well as a blocker. He's also found separation in the passing game despite an alleged utter lack of athletic tools. I'd wager that I could point to several examples of Williams finding creases or separating in most games thus far. I recall two from the San Francisco game alone which could've resulted in either a score or a big play, despite the fact that he played a mere 19 snaps in that contest. PFF currently has Maxx Williams pegged as the 4th highest graded TE, with positive grades in literally every facet. Is he currently the 4th best TE in the NFL? Heavens no. He's yet to win the starting job, let alone do enough to compete with the likes of Gronkowski, Tyler Eifert, Travis Kelce, Jimmy Graham for a spot in the upper echelon. But it at least corroborates the notion that he's shown well thus far.

Many peeps around here talk like he is a future pro bowler. TEs can be effective with pedestrian athleticism. Especially if a feared WR opens this up. But not elite. That's where you and I differ. You are applauding mediocrity. Shown well as a blocker?? Found separation?? That is nothing to do cartwheels over. And I would like to think I do have some credibility judging athletic skills ;)

If you are going to question my quotes, at least get it right. I said lose 15-20 of his flab and replace it with muscle. Where does that put him at 220lbs?? My assessment of his physique is actually quite accurate. Again I am fairly qualified to do so. Don't you you think so?? There are WRs that have more lean mass than Fat Maxx does. Andre Johnson for beginners. If you stripped Maxx of his flab, Andre Johnson would be the bigger stronger looking athlete with more muscle mass. Yes if he lost his flab he would not be an ideal TEs playwright. But you are correct. 220s is preposterous. If he leaned out to a proper TE physique he would be about 235. That is why I said drop 15-20 lbs of flab and replace it with 15-20 lbs of functional muscle. BTW if he got in shape I would wager he will find that extra gear. Bodyfat slows you down quite effectively. Just ask Suggs. And Maxx does not have to figure it out. He has some of the finest trainers and nutritionists around him. He just needs to follow it.

Unless he makes some change I am calling Maxx a very mediocre TE. And that is all he will ever be. Sorry if that offends anybody!! And that will make him a disappointment considering Ozzie traded up for him, ravens already had Gilmore, and all the talent they could have had. And when he turns out to be mediocre I would not label that a successful draft pick!! The goal is a championship. They are won by talented players.

  6. who goal is that?

The ravens organization. They want a juggernaut offense. Did they not use early round picks on WR and a TE?? Which is my point with Ozzie. Why didn't he trade up when much better prospects were available and actually BPA's?? He is not playing drafts strengths and is late and a step behind everything he does. He waits until WR is a desperate need and decides to pull whatever name is left in the hat in Perriman.

  7. if maxx works on his run blocking he could very well end up having a similar career like witten or heath miller.

he looks and plays pretty similar like them.

    id sign up for that.

Nope!! The goal is a prolific offense. And they want a TE that defenses fear for the scheme they wish to run. I want him to be comparable to Gronk!! Or at least Travis Kelce or Olsen or Cameron. My friends in the new England area laugh and rub it in how belicheat stole Gronk from Ozzie the wizard. I play like it does not bother me but it gets under my skin a little. He is actually not nearly as fast as a young witten. Witten was surprisingly fast. And I doubt he will ever be the blocker Heath Miller was. Miller was mediocre as a receiver actually. A little above average at best but did not strike fear in defenses. Max better really hit the weight room to block like Miller!!lol, I would prefer him tough and reliable over the middle, good after the catch and the speed and skill to make nfl defenses respect his deep speed and athleticism. And a functional blocker is fine. Much like Todd Heap. If he followed a strict training\nutrition program he could be much like Heap or Pitta. Like I said he does have some athleticism and savvy working. If he practiced his craft more diligently, dropped 15-20 lbs of flab and put on 15-20 lbs of muscle he would find that extra gear and be a top4 TE.

  8. Looks like a "name change". Pirate88 has left us and has been replaced by Winchester.

Yes, I could not remember the numbers I used. I got busy with work and more work, spring arrived so I hit the gym more often and gf's family went through a political situation and i was to busy to post. I put that avy up there so somebody could remember.

  9. For the love of Ray Lewis. Stop calling him fat Maxx. He's probably in better shape than you. Just saying. He's in shape. His game has never been speed. He's always been physical, had sure hands, and has a knack for getting open. And he's a good blocker. That's irony. You're correct. He does posses great athletic ability. But that always doesn't equate to pure speed.

Jee, that sounds very familiar in the NFL. A certain superstar and possible future HOF TE named.... IDK JASON WITTEN.

That's not to say(again, like Witten) he's slow. He's not. He's quicker than fast which can be a good thing, but he doesn't posses great long speed. But very few TEs do.

And no. He does not need to be like Gronk. Witten for many years was an elite TE. He's still great now. His game ages well. And Witten has a knack for doing all the right things.

But stop calling him fat Maxx. It's pointless because.

    1. HE'S NOT FAT.

    2. He's probably in better shape than literally any poster here(not a knock on us either. These NFL players are in insane shape and have high stamina).

    3..... HE'S NOT FAT.

For an NFL TE he is fat. Witten was actually far faster than he looked. He to could have actually been more dangerous down the seam had he got in better shape. But MAX(notice I left fat out) looks like he is running in sand out there!! He is not quick or sudden. He may have been at his joke of a college division, but not the NFL. Do you think Gronk would be as fast and dangerous if he looked like MAX?? NEVER!! Gronk has been clocked at 19.99 mph this year. He is actually faster at 270 lbs than he was in college at 255. Because of his work ethic!! And MAX would be more sudden in his routes if he was not carrying around all that flab!! He would be tougher to bring down if he put on some quality muscle. I saw a Corner tackle him like he was a ragdoll couple games back. Gronk follows a strict training and nutrition program and is out to the practice field before Brady is. And the goal is a championship right?? Then he does have to be like Gronk. The ravens traded up for a dangerous playmaking TE!! Not A pudgy TE catching 5 yard glorified handoffs. I do know He showed up to camp with bad eating, workout and practice habits. He acknowledged he needed to train and practice more seriously and change his poor eating habits. He angered some coaches and rubbed them the wrong way because he was not already doing these things. Pitta has a great work ethic. Before his injury he looked like a WR running routes. MAX is nowhere near Pitta right now. But he could be if he got his pudgy body in shape!!

  10. Didn't realize that playing well was an excuse.

Actually fat maxx did have an OK game. What I meant is he is not an elite TE and does not have the skill set to be Gronk,Gates or Graham like everybody is saying he does. He does not have speed or an extra gear to strike fear in defenses. He will be serviceable but not elite. I am harsh on fat maxx because he does have some athleticism working for him. If he reshaped his flabby bod he would gain a step of speed and perhaps even find that extra gear and be far stronger. He needs to lose about 15-20 lbs of fat and put on 15-20 lbs of muscle. He is leaving speed and athleticism on the table!! If he adopted Gronks work ethic in the training room and on the practice field he could potentially be a pro bowler. But be showed up with bad eating habits and bad work habits. And was culture shocked at the muscularity, speed and power of NFL players as opposed to that joke of a conference he played in college. He needs to be like Gronk. First on the practice field!! And a strict training and nutrition program. He acknowledged he needed to change his eating habits when he showed up at rookie camp. He could be a 1000 yard 10 td guy if he seriously dedicated himself to his craft and getting in shape.

And that just scratches the surface of players that were available. Wagner I like and root for but is having a terrible year. Juice is a fan favorite but he is just a fb, complimentary player and he likely would have been there in round 6. Overlooking mettenberger as a backup was a huge mistake!! and he will show that this week. And I would call Gilmore decent. He will never be a pro bowler. If he were good the fo would not have traded up for fat maxx. Campanaro I would call good if he could stay on the field. He is similar to Randall Cobb. A faster version of Julian edelman with more outside athleticism and ball skills. He has legit above average speed to gain separation. He ran a computer timed 4.38. But he can not stay on the field.

  12. Right? We've got 2 SB's since 2000. There are several franchises who don't even have a playoff win in that span.

And to those who say Ozzie has slipped recently... Then why are we among the top 3-4 winningest franchises since 2008, aka recently?

Recently we've been one of the models of success and consistency in a league built to not allow it, yet recently Ozzie hasn't been doing a good job.

Fans who think that would be miserable as a fan of every single team in every sport. This is football... It's not a science. The best at what they do aren't even close to perfect.

A SB and only 2-3 seasons where you're not competing for one every 10 years is absolutely incredible. INCREDIBLE. Especially for a relatively new expansion team.

I'm disappointed in this season but that's because I'm a fan and want to win. But I also recognize that the grass isn't greener practically anywhere. I can accept a down year as long as we're competing for a title again in the next 2-3 years and this current FO and formula has done exactly that over a span of 20 years.

There is NO ONE better for the job than Oz. And if you think otherwise, even in recent drafts/FA please show me the GMs with a better record, accounting for draft position and the cap space they had to deal with.

    I'll wait.

Bengals, packers, patriots, jaguars, seahawks, steelers,Vikings, raiders, cowboys, cardinals to name some teams that have drafted far better than the ravens recently. Some of these teams the young talent has not yet translated to playoffs yet. Like the raiders and jags. But give them time the talent is there and gaining confidence. Their young talent is playing better and better while ravens fans are making excuses for young players such as fat maxx. As for the cap situation, that is Ozzie's hot mess!! And draft position is no excuse!! There is talent available at pick#21-26. And if Ozzie truly trusted his scouting skills and there was a player he liked, he could always traded up several spots to 17-20 spot. It does not take much to move up 6 spots in the draft. If Ozzie thought a round4 pick was more significant than a player he and his scouts liked and believed could be an elite player then that is on him!! It only costed a round3 pick to trade up 6 spots or so to select Joe Cool. And he did not want to do that. Biscotti had to order that move!! If Joe Cool would have been picked already, Ozzie was content picking the next QBs name out of the hat. Some good players fell to the ravens but they lost out on far more players like Dez, GRONK,Hopkins,Harrison Smith,Agholor by waiting for the hat to get to the ravens. Because Ozzie does not pursue players he and scouting believe in. He conservatively treats it like pick a name left in the hat. He does not have the brilliance to adjust his strategy accordingly to a draft board and free agent market. The bad drafting and bad signings is the reason they are 1-5 with needs at both olb spots, ilb,FS, 2 WRs,corner and left tackle. And center, guard a question mark entering free agency.

  13. 1. He actually wasn't reportedly being shopped at all. This whole concept started based on fan overreaction. They saw the Bears trade away two largely unproductive players who had no future and didn't fit well on the team anyway, and because they were struggling, fans and twitter prognosticators who do nothing more than hypothesize and guess suggested that the Bears would be willing to part with him.

There's no indication they were ever seriously considering it or that it was ever realistic. Me personally, it did never made sense. Jeffery is a building block for that franchise, not somebody who doesn't fit or you want to get rid of.

    2. There's multiple reasons why the Ravens only shop for "bargains". For one, they invest more in their own draft products than other teams, given that they're generally better than other teams at doing it and that they believe in investing in your own players. Its a model a lot of the better teams in the league follow, such as the Packers.

Secondly, by investing in your own players, you generally don't have much cap space to be spending on FA's. In particular, expensive or "high end" FAs. That's a market that a lot of the notoriously struggling teams tend to shop in. There aren't a lot of "big splashes" being made in FA by a lot of the better teams in this league.

Lastly, the difference between paying somebody elite money that you drafted vs paying somebody elite money from FA is that draft picks, given the rookie wage scale, usually play at least 4 years at significantly less than market value. So while its great to go out and pay somebody like a Jeffery $10M+ a year, it was the Bears who got the benefit of four years of him at probably $10M TOTAL for those 4 years.

That's why guys like Julio and Dez are so valuable... because you have them playing at significantly below market value for an extended period of time. When you sign a high priced FA, there's pretty much no time when they will be playing for less than market value, because day one in your organization they were getting paid market value.

Its why drafting well is important. Its why the Seahawks are capable of making back to back SB runs... first they had elite level defensive players playing for well below market value, and they had a QB who played very well at about $1M a year. Once those things come to an end, they have to adjust their strategy by retaining a lot of the key players, letting some guys go that they would like to keep, and finding cheaper replacements via the draft or via shopping for "bargain" FAs.

If you look at the teams who are typically in the top of the league in the W/L category, a lot of those teams adopt a very similar strategy to what the Ravens do.

I do not necessarily think it is the strategy that wins games for teams like the packers. They have a franchise qb. There is no proven strategy. You have to adjust your strategy and thinking accordingly to the market, your assets and competition. Kind of like adjusting on the fly like a great route runner does when he gets open from different coverage schemes. Ozzie does not seem to be smart enough to adjust his strategy for each draft and free agent market. Sometimes you sign your own players. Sometimes you can acquire a far better player from another team. Would you prefer to pay Torrey $9mil or Maclin $11mil?? Jimmy $10mil or Grimes $10mil.

  14. Couple problems I have with this...

    1. Assuming you can restructure Pitta is difficult, because he has to have an incentive to do that as well. He still has three years left on the deal after this season, and he himself will make only $5M next season, so its not his problem what the Ravens cap number is, because a lot of that has to do with the signing bonus we gave him two years ago. Asking him to take a paycut from $5M is reasonable, but again, he has to want to do that, which I doubt.

Additionally, he really isn't all that concerned about being outright released, because the Ravens save less than $1M against the cap by releasing him. Frankly, the only real options are he retires or he plays for the Ravens as far as I see.

    2. For Webb, I don't see an extension as realistic. We already got him to take a paycut once and he's scheduled to make $8M last season. We could threaten a paycut again, but my guess is if that happens he will decline and we will have to decide whether he's worth it or not. He still has two years left after this season, and frankly, extending his contract isn't wise given his injury history and lack of dependability.

He's much more likely to be released than extended in my eyes.

    Completely agree with everything.

    0

  15. 1. My guess would be that the Bears could ask for a #1 pick and get it if they really wanted to trade him.

    2. I still see no reason why the Bears would want to trade him. Remember, it requires two parties to agree to a trade, not one.

I agree. However they were reported to be shopping him. I agree a #1 is to much because Alshon is not yet in the category the elite like Dez or Julio. It would be interesting to see him play with SS and learn route running from one of the best ever go couple with his size and skills. If Alshon became an elite detailed route runner to add to his speed and ball skills he could be as good as Dez Bryant. Being that the ravens are looking at a top 10 pick I think a #2 or pair of #3's is reasonable. He would take heat off Perriman and free him up as well. Which would help his confidence.

Somebody mentioned try to sign him and not trade away draft picks. I love that idea!! However the ravens have this gm who only wants so called "bargains" . Nevermind the fact many "bargains" are bargains for a reason and often end up useless as players. If the ravens draft an elite talent, they have to pay him market value anyways. What is the difference if that elite player is not already on your team?? Why does everybody have to be a bargain to be considered?? When taken into consideration all the bargains that are bad signings and are scrubs at that point. Or the bargains that do play well are on the books for $$ even after they to old to be considered starters or NFL caliber then then as a whole bargains cost as much or when considering all the bargains that did not work out. Many times bargains are cheaper for a reason. Many times you get what you pay for!!

When Ozzie only considers bargains, it is strapping and limiting the organizations options. Sometimes you have to trust your organizations coaching, work ethic and atmosphere to sign a marquee talent and trust the ravens have the structure for that player to perform even better than he did on his previous team. And inject your roster with much needed pro bowl talent.

  16. True, but neither of those two websites does in-depth studies on where the players line up specifically so I'll personally side with PFF. I've seen similar errors in the past such as with George Iloka, who was incorrectly listed as the SS last season. Also, Stewart is listed as an FS on NFL.com since that's his current position in Denver. Don't get me wrong, neither Will nor Stewart were exclusive to being solely one of the two. I've just went through our Tennessee game from last season as a refresher and there were numerous times when they were both 8+ yards off the LOS. There were also times when Hill was lined up in the box or moved down right before the snap, especially in situations when he was in man coverage against the slot WR/TE. However, he spent the majority of his snaps as an FS in either two-deep looks or alone in the deep middle. In fact, from the Titans' last drive before the half until the end of the game, Hill was the single-high safety in over 80% of the snaps, and Terrence Brooks accompanied him in most of the two-deep looks from thereon.

I understand what you're getting at, though that's debatable given that we're already getting a glimpse of Hill at SS and he doesn't seem more dominant than he was at FS. I do agree on the disguising. I agree once more that we're giving up separation on the sidelines and that a faster FS would help in those circumstances. Above average instincts can help make up for the deficiency in foot speed, but the latter at the position would obviously be a plus, especially in the role we're discussing.

Thank you so much my friend!! I do not diagnose Clips like that. However I know I saw Hill playing fs role numerous times and play it well. Members here and my friends disputed me when I said Hill could play FS. One dude played football for Maryland and attempted to say Will Hill was very slow. But this same dude said Elam was better than Will. So I doubt he watches the games!!lol

Anyways I think the ravens could be dominant again in a hurry of they traded for Chancellor and obtained a fast physical 3 down LB to partner with Mosley and take control of the middle of the field!! The ravens would be fronting safety's and ilbs that can run well, cover, tackle, play the ball and INTIMIDATE!! The key to the 2012 dominance in foxboro was 2 safetys that INTIMIDATE and LBs that could cover like safety's. Especially Ellerbe. The key to the SF defense was 2 ilbs that were fast physical and could run and cover as well as safety's. Obtaining Chancellor would present a challenge I'm sure. However finding a 3 down physical instinctful LB to partner with Mosley either through free agency or the draft should be a priority. Daryl Smith plays smart but he is a liability.

Well, it depends on if the Bears want to keep him first and foremost, which they probably do. If that's the case, he likely never hits the market.

Also, keep in mind that cutting guys like Webb and Pitta create significant dead money, and cutting basically anybody creates dead money.

Cutting Webb and Pitta alone, pre-June 1, creates $12.6M in dead money from those two players alone. Sure, you could cut post-June 1, but all you're doing is kicking the can down the road. I doubt the FO is interested in carrying an over $4M dead money cap hit to 2017 for a guy like PItta who basically hadn't played football in 2.5 years by that point. Besides, if he retires, I don't believe the Ravens have that option anyway.

We probably won't have as much dead money as we do this season (nearly $22M), but I'd still guarantee we will be north of $10M in dead money when its all said and done, and probably closer to $15M. Cutting those two guys alone will probably make $20M a realistic number.

If you check out B-more Ravor's report on the Salary cap thread, when you factor in current contracts and add in tenders, draft picks, adjustments, etc., we're basically starting with projected slightly negative cap space.

So the only cap space we create will likely be based on the cuts/retirements/extensions we give. No idea how much the Flacco extension (if it even happens) will create, but my guess would be around $8-10M, and through cuts you might be able to free up another $5-10M or so. Extend a couple players, and you're probably looking at $10M to play with, give or take a bit.

    That's not much.

Why not trade for Alshon?? Or some other proven or clearly ascending receiving commodity?? It would give us leverage in contract negotiations and keep us out of a bidding war. I think a #2 or early round 3 is reasonable to acquire Alshon. I do not want to hear a #2 or #3 and we have to pay him is to expensive. Because it is not nearly as expensive as burning draft picks on busts at WR and money for useless aging or overrated #3 or #4 WRs on other teams.

As with the salary cap situation, Ozzie has it a hot mess!! To much guaranteed $$ on the books for old, injured and eratic players. My opinion, it is best to cut ties with these players and spread the cap hit out over a couple seasons so they can be competitive. Or else take the cap Hits this year and accept the team will suck for another year and have 2 years of early draft picks to go with a good amount of csp space. I know most fans do not want to hear another bad losing season. But it would be truly nieve to think they are going to fix all these holes in the draft. Especially the way Ozzie has drafted lately.

Ozzie's bad drafting and signings has led to other issues. He plays comp picks to a fault of a tunnel visioned senile man. And it handcuffs the organization's flexibility and strategy. He follows one strategy and has zero vision and intuition to adjust philosophies and strategies when the situation is favorable and beneficial to adjust his route and path of thinking. Ozzie learned bpa from belichick by his own admission. It led to some good players from 1996-2003. However as his stars aged and he failed to draft many or any marquee talent, it led him to panic,

get away from bpa and try to replace his stars exact position. However when trying to acquire elite talent for your teams foundation you accept a marquee player at any position. That is the payoff of bpa.

Yet another bad draft as ravens fans will have to watch WRs like Tyler Lockett and Steffon Diggs outperform the raven's round1 WR. As well as game changers at WR and other positions play in the pro bowl and outperform the ravens top2 selections YET AGAIN!! The excuses you all are making for Perriman and Fat Maxx like they are rookies will not last long. Then you will settle for the top 2 picks are busts or mediocre YET AGAIN!! Just a question out of curiosity. How many losing seasons before it is time to replace ozzie?. Since the championship they are below .500 and missed playoffs 2 out of 3.

  17. kam and hill play the same position not to mention have the same skill set.

    would solve 0.

we need a earl thomas type at FS.

id trade hill for Kam though.

also my point was that even though what you say is true about forsett and smith , we still dont have the replacement on the roster which mean we most draft or sign one which adds to the many holes we need to fix.

if you do that you better hope brown and allen are the answers.

Hill can play fs in a blink. And Daryl Smith is already a hole.

  18. Chancellor is under contract, and the Seahawks have practically all of the leverage. Strongly doubt they are interested in moving on from him.

Chancellor is under contract, and the Seahawks have practically all of the leverage. Strongly doubt they are interested in moving on from him.

If his agent knew the ravens were interested he would put the pressure on for a trade. And with all the money the seahawks are paying they are interested in collecting draft picks. A pair of #2 picks could tempt them. And there is nobody in the NFL or draft like Chancellor!! So that is not steep at all. He hits like a LB and covers as well as any safety.

  19. forsett webb and smith are going to leave even bigger holes to fill though.

When the ravens oline is intact it is easy to find a RB to be effective. Daryl Smith is getting old and slow. I mentioned last offseason replacing him with a fast physical 3 down LB. Bowman and Willis made the safety's look good and their job easy. Mosley with another fast physical 3 down LB would control the middle. Then adding Chancellor next to Hill and that is a defense that would command a name!!

  20. Just throwing this idea out there. The ravens could attempt to trade for Kam Chancellor?? The seahawks likely can't pay him what he wants. Then draft the best physical 3 down LB or sign a free agent ilb. The ravens would control the middle of the field in this modern NFL where everybody is throwing the ball around uncontested. Mosley Hill Chancellor and a fast physical 3 down LB to partner with Mosley would strike fear into opposition!! Qb rushers are tough to find and very expensive. But the real key to neutralizing qbs and their weapons is controlling the middle of the field which actually also helps eliminate the big play. I was at the ravens playoff win in foxboro. The real key to shutting them out after halftime was Reed Ellerbe and Pollard controlling the middle and Ray the shorter area of the middle. The patriot WRs were scared and all of their fans knew it!! They were calling Brady and his weapons every name they could think of.lol When the defense controls the short and intermediate throws it makes the blitzes far more effective and Easy to conceal. Everybody wants the impact edge rushers and shutdown corner. But the real key is the collective defense controlling the middle and striking fear into An offense. I know I can be harsh on the ravens flaws. However I am a huge huge sore loser and root for them to win.

  21. And your Looking at things with "pure pessimism". 2 of our tight ends are rookies dude. One of them is 21 years old. They will take some time to develop, tight ends usually take longer than most positions.

They are rookies. But they do not possess the physical attributes of elite receiving TEs. Gilmore is physical with good hands. But he has very little speed with no extra gear. He does not stress a defense. Fat maxx has some athleticism and good hands working for him. Again his speed and skills does not worry a defense very much. Boyle is a slightly less athletic version of Gilmore. They will be effective TEs but far from elite. Everybody thinks every young WR or TE is going to be elite or the next t.o. The Brown\Aiken hype was ludicrous!! Now our TEs are all next Gronk or Gates. Seriously they do not have the physical attributes of Gronk or Gates. Fat Maxx is not much of an upgrade over Gilmore if at all!! The Perriman\Fat maxx selections should have been BPA's. The ravens would have less holes to fill.

  22. Even that being said, he cant help injuries.  Losing our best defensive player, one of the best pass rushers in the league really set back the team, then more injuries...we will never know what this team would of done healthy so its really hard to judge this year.

There's a good shot Suggs was going to have a down year anyways. I told everybody the ravens are getting old and no true #1 WR. Does anybody think the ravens are fixing all these holes by next year?? Not to mention the money Biscotti is on the hook for. Not just Rice but all the underperformers Jimmy,Webb,Pitta,Monroe. Suggs will be going on 35,Dumervil will be 34. And that is just the big money contracts. Does anybody recall the other all pro guards after they hit 32-33?? Faneca,Allen,Hutchinson,Waters?? Everybody is counting on Perriman to be a #1 and has never shown #1 skills. Mosley and Jernigan took steps backwards without Ngata playing. Wagner has really struggled. Then there are the recognized holes corner,FS,WR,Center, The so called bright spots are pure optimism. The TEs are serviceable, not game breakers like everybody is making it sound like. Neither have game changing, speed or skills or another gear like the elite TEs that can take the place of a #1 WR option. But the Ozzie flock talks like Gilmore or Fat maxx are the next Gronk or Gates or even Todd Heap. I understand everybody thought this team was going to compete for the championship. But to actually believe every WR 6'3 or taller is going to be a #1 WR is nieve. Bad drafting and bad signings have caught up to the ravens. I do hope Mosley rebounds to a pro bowl LB and Jernigan rebounds.

  23. Tis the problem when you're consistently picking late in the draft.

Check the other teams consistently picking in the late 20s consistently... they're having pretty similar issues.

But there is talent available. Ozzie is plain missing. No excuses.

  24. I assumed the process of elimination would be implied in my explanation, but by sheer virtue of having among the most pass rushing snaps in comparison to every linebacker in the NFL, he can't possibly be in coverage too frequently. Irvin hasn't spent more than 18.6% of his snaps in coverage in the last season and a half, and he averaged that number in his previous two. He's also had the least amount of snaps in coverage among all qualified players at his position in both 2014 and 2015 because his responsibilities vary significantly from one of a traditional nature. For example, Justin Houston, a 3-4 OLB, spent just under 15% of his snaps in coverage last season. Irvin and Houston rushed the passer on 42.6% and 43.7% of their snaps, a figure that is almost identical. In addition, Irvin's role hasn't been significantly augmented since after his rookie season, and it certainly doesn't differ much from what it was the year before, if at all. I personally don't recall a time when Irvin was forced to slim down, though I could be mistaken. However, you don't see many situations where a player is busted for PEDs while attempting to slim down, so he's very likely been looking to bump his weight up since at least the 2013 offseason. I see him more as a Swiss army knife, which I absolutely intend to be a compliment. But he's struggled to consistently bring the heat as a pass rusher despite the high volume of opportunities and the edge rushers around him suctioning attention away from him. It's hard to imagine that his production there would rise dramatically when he's the primary option.

That is actually a very intelligent response. How many snaps did he take?? I know he had 8 sacks as a rookie. And he has rare explosiveness that can not be taught. However as you brought up there is ped use which he claims is adderall. But he did lose weight and muscle tone. I really like him if he can play at his optimum weight of 260. Before his suspension I watched a game where he was unlockable. Not just his burst but he showed surprising power I never knew he had. If he can get to 260 lbs again I like his potential because the ravens do have stouter big body tackles to free him up for his charge to the qb. Whether Irvin or whomever, the ravens need a speed rusher!! That is why I say Randy Gregory should have been the round2 pick.
