In a perfect world us signing Tony Jefferson and Stephon Gilmore in free agency would be nice. Then pair them with a receiver and corner from the draft and I would be a happy ravens fan for the offseason.
Looking forward to the Patriots. Our Patriots meetings go two ways every time we play.
1. Its a competitive game, both defenses and the offenses are neck and neck and executing and it basically comes down to who can score last. Those games usually are 17-21, 14-21, 21-28, 21-27
2. We start out ok but then immediately it gets out of hand. Brady throwing 3 or 4 TDs on us and he just carves up our secondary, picking on that one out the loop corner we have. (shareece Wright will be that of course)
I know it's wishful thinking, but I sure hope Ozzie has Norv Turner's number on speed dial... A new OC can't come soon enough. One that's actually a good one, and can come up with playes where the strengths of our offense and players come into play - where the plays are drawn up to match the players' abilities, and not vica versa... Oh, and one who actually knows that in the two-minute drives you don't keep passing short-to-mid range passes to the middle of the field, giving the receiver no chance of making it out of bounds...
Luckily, we also have a D and a ST...If there is a search for a new OC after the season, I hope they look for a new upcoming young guy for the job. Part of the problem is hiring these old re-tread coaches that have an offensive scheme that hasn't evolved w/ the times.
In my opinion Marty is just a fill in for this season and will be immediately replaced, at least I hope. I do agree 100% its time for some new blood. Its time for new blood in more than a few spots on the ravens actually.
How did you feel when the confetti was dropping at New Orleans?
For the love of god, I'm not talking about his 2012 campaign. I'm talking every year since that (except when Kubiak was the OC). If he would play like he did in 2012 or 2014, I would shut my mouth, cause the man would be earning his buck. But the matter of the fact is he's playing worse every year since.
Another thing, of course I'm proud about our 2012 triumph and the way the entire team, including Flacco performed. And I'm ecstatic about the overall success of our franchise. I mean, 2 Lombardi trophies in 20 years is most of other teams have to show for. This is one of my go-to arguments whenever some other teams' fans starts huffing and puffing. However, CAN WE PLEASE STOP LIVING IN THE PAST?!
It's one thing to be proud of your past success, reflect and feel good about it. It's another thing to get hung up on your glory days. Every time I see one of our fans with the talk "But in 2012..." I immediately remember the arrogant "We-have-6-titles" Steelers' fans. WHO CARES about 2012 or 2000 or whatever amount of titles any team has won previously! The only season that matters now is 2016 and how far you get this year, that's it!
And let me ask you this, whobilly, do you want to remain reminiscent about our 2012 season or do you want to get another SB win? I for one would like to see the confetti drop again some time soon. For that, one of the following has to change: 1) Flacco's game or 2) cap hit created by Flacco's salary, so we could afford more high level players. And I for one don't see any indication that Flaccos's playing level will improve any time soon.
soooo he plays bad since getting paid except for the yeah he played good since getting paid? or is it that he plays bad since the year he played good since getting paid? I think the most important lesson here is that joe has played well since getting his contract and will play well if in an appropriate system. He is just an easy target, simple things for simple people.
Blame everything on everything else but ... SMH They paid him good money to impact games, not to be the one carried by everything else.
There is no perfect team. Good players have to make up for the deficiencies. In your argument we would be chasing this nirvana. Joe needs a perfect Oline, Joe needs the best WRs, Joe needs the best defense to not allow the other team to come back, Joe needs a good game plan, the run/pass ratio must be balanced, Joe needs a great play call, Joe needs a great OC, Joe needs a great head coach, Joe needs Ozzie to draft better than anybody else etc.
Joe can't do everything by himself of course, but look at his play. Ozzie should have kept KO, he is a proven talent one of our own. I don't believe that it was either KO or Weddle and Wallace. I think we could still have had both.
The Ravens mediocrity can't be blamed solely on Joe, but a 9th yr veteran can play better. If he played better even with all of our deficiencies, we will threaten the Super Bowl. We have talents all over the place. Suggs, BW, Jernigan, Mosely, Doom (when comes back), Weddle, J. Smith,
SSS, Wallace, Perriman, Pitta, Yanda, West, Stanley etc
Great special team. don't forget about Tucker.
I think if we compete we can beat any team consistently.Lets just put it another way.....Imagine this Ravens team with Priest Holmes, Shannon Sharpe, Ed Reed and Rod Woodson. It really is about playmakers!
How unrealistic! So the Ravens nation would have to wait for the second coming of Holmes, Sharpe, Reed, and Woodson. What a nirvana!
It'll be much simpler if the players we have just elevate their games.
We got a combination of old guys, mediocre guys, good guys who can't stay healthy and rookies. Its really about the coaching honestly though, Marty and Pees are just not good coaches.
Signing Wright was bad from the beginning imo. The Chargers and 49ers both released him for the same reasons. He's a good tackler who is awful at covering. ( I think he wanted a big contract fro one of the teams too for some reason lol)
Five thoughts
1. Drafting is ruining the Baltimore Ravens. Remember that whole "in Ozzie we trust".....yeah it's almost been a DECADE since he's drafted well. The days of surviving on Ray, Ed, and Sizzle are long gone.
2. We've had corner back issues since McCallister. That's a long time
3. Wright should never play another down for the Ravens. It's embarrassing for the fans and organization and Harbs puts him out there again he should go too. Webb can return punts but he sholdn't play D either. Stop playing the dbs 12 yards off!!!
4. RUN THE BALL
5. O yeah, Our drafting is killing us!
I agree with points 1,2 and 3 but we did run the ball. Dallas just started clamping down on it at some point. We need a consistent o-line and some damn corners bad! CB and S should be # 1 and 2 on our draft board in my opinion.
I have a lot of respect for this defense and they played a really good game. But let's be honest, those final 10 minutes were scary. Those 2 TD drives were way too easy for the Steelers. In that first TD drive the Steelers were pinned back inside their own 15 on 3rd and 21 and managed to get the first down. That's the kind of play that you just can't let happen.
We started playing that stupid prevent defense (which is why Pees should be fired). Also our defense dropped like 3 picks that would have erased all hope for the Steelers before that scoring run.
purposely sabotaging the run game? now that is funny. thanks for the laugh
Yeah, I know. But I can't think for another reason why veteran QB like Flacco consistently fails to audible running plays so they won't run head first into defenders on the edges. Maybe he's not big friends with West and tries to hand out some punishment for him? What do u think?
Not well-blocked, maybe? Not a great scheme, perhaps?
You know Flacco doesn't audible or read defenses anyway. He just calls the play and executes. Whatever happens, happens.
I agree Flacco needs a line and a good running game ( which we just completely stop after the 1st half) to succeed. He's not a star. He doesn't read defense, audible, release the ball quick or look at more than 2 reads. That means the receivers need to get OPEN and make sure there routes are ran correctly and catch the ball. So, though Joe is looks like trash he needs playmakers on the offense and defense
Sure, Joe has not looked good this year. However anyone blaming him is out of their mind. All these stats based articles are a great way to disprove why stats alone are terrible indicators.
It's the O-line which wasn't very good to start with (two rookies starting on the left which is INSANE) and is now in shambles, the center being the stable piece who was the worst performing member of the starting line. This leads to Joe getting hit or running for his life. No wonder his is anxious to throw, the same thing happens when Rogers or Brady or anyone does not have a good line and is getting hit constantly. Plus the new RB core is worse at protection now and is untrustworthy.
Also, Flacco has consistently delivered good balls and the receivers drop them. Perriman, Morre and Wallace are all guilty of dropping easy catches and game winning catches, mostly on buddy pass like balls. You can't win if you deliver the perfect pass on the perfectly called play and the receiver drops it.
Flacco still had the team in position and drove them down the field with a chance to win, again.
Also, he wasn't the one who called on him to throw it 48 times this past game, he can only do what he is told, which is exactly what he does.
Also, Flacco is not responsible for 200+ yards and 2 TD to OBJ with the stupid coverage that Pees dials up.
No one wants to say it but this game was lost due to injuries. 3 starting O Linemen out, our most sure handed SSS is out, on the Defense CJ Mosley out, Jimmy Smith went out (OBJ was nothing until Jimmy went down), and then two more corners were lost. Now Suggs is gone, remember last year when Suggs was lost? How did that go. We can't replace Yanda, Stanley, Suggs or Jimmy, no one on the roster can do that.
The only wonder people should be thinking is how on Earth did Joe keep us in that game until the final drive. This is what elite players do, they give you the chance to win every time, they don't guarantee it every time.Love your comments. You are one of the few fans that make sense.
That's rediculous we r talking about A 9 year super bowl mvp. Who Ray gave the throne to this team. So eyes are definitely on him ?and he has yet to do the study in the film room that Ray and Ed did , that's why they were true elite leaders that made everyone around them better Do to there study football iq and passion for the game. I never would doubt flacco. He has proved he can be elite at times in the past.with all the experience one has I would like to see better accuracy communication with the offense during pre snap reads, make proper adjustments put your offense in position to succeed. The defense has given flacco chance after chance for years to date and over all he did fair. Yea he gave us A chance to win every game lol that's A dabateable argument. The proof is in the results. Still a long season ahead to show and prove. It's 50/50 the rest to be determined.
I agree with everything but at 9 years Flacco is what he is. We've all been saying the same things the past few years and he's yet to do them. He does need an actual line though no matter how open receivers are, the panthers have proved that.
My five thoughts will be based on reasons why the Ravens need to make changes.
1. Most of the best players on the team are guys the Ravens brought in via free agency. A lot of the guys they draft are on the bench or special teams way too often.
Smith Sr, Wallace, Weddle, Watson (injured). In the past Boldin, Mason, McKinney, McGahee.
This organization consistently relies on free agents (old players) instead of building through the draft. It’s no wonder they are against the cap and can’t keep good players. There was a time when every year OZ drafted a pro bowler. What happened?
2. Over the last few seasons, the Ravens are one of the most penalized teams. Has Harbs lost the ability to instill discipline?
3. Their highest paid players are the most inconsistent and disappointing.
Flacco is not elite. He is inconsistent in every aspect of the position.
Webb is overpaid.
J Smith does not look like a 1st round CB.
Where are the pro bowls among these players? If I’m not mistaken, none of them have a pro bowl.
Joe caught fire in 2012 and is solid in the playoffs, but regular season he is average at best.
4. 5 offensive coordinators and the offense still stinks. In fact, it was worst under Billick. Harbs is not an X and Os guys. He does not have the competence to contribute to developing a successful system on either side of the ball. As a result, the front office hire all these former coaches with their own viewpoints. Ravens need a coach that implement a system that guides how they draft and build an identity.
5. Ravens are heading toward missing the playoffs 3 out of the last 4 seasons. They are 8-14 so far over the past 2 seasons. The consistency Steve mentioned in the state of the Ravens is not working. Quality of draft, ability to retain top players , ability to develop young talent, lack of pro bowlers at positions you draft and players with big contracts are all on the decline.
I agree with everything your saying. We are still living in the early 2000s and look blindly at the changing of the league. We have too much pride for some reason.

He had Beckham shut down up until he left the game. Hes not the problem lol
Yea Jimmy has been good but he's not a #1 corner in my opinion. He needs a Marcus Peters or atleast a Josh Norman next to him.
Kenneth Dixon looks like he's going to be around in this league for a while.... I hope I'm right.
14 hours ago, Puntit said:And he still has 8 picks to work with. If he can come away with a corner and ILB who will make the team he has reloaded pretty nicely.
i don't know why WR is listed as a "need" on the PFT and others lists though. If someone good falls to us, sure, but right now it looks pretty crowded with SSSr, Perriman, Wallace, Aiken, Camp, Matthews, M Brown, Hunter, D Brown, Jacobs, Clay and (if he's not a TE) Waller. Anyone we draft is going to need to be stowed on the PS because it would be tough to make the field behind the first 4.
No we needed a receiver from this draft but we didn't get the right one. SSSr is old and ready to retire, Perriman needs to show me something this season, Wallace is a good pickup, Aiken is proven but he's a #2 to 3 at best, M Brown is struggling and has a slight chance of getting cut, Camp can't stay health to save his life, Matthews is a nice big body receiver but its a reason he was cut from a WR needy Seahawks at that time, D Brown showed little flashes and Butler showed the most promise to me out of our younger WRs. The rest of those guys are trash. I would've liked a corner though instead of Chris Moore and then picked up Rashard Higgins.
I loved the Stanley pick but feel like Tunsil or Buckner would've been better. Kaufusi and Correa are good high motor players but still feel like better players were there. We got Young who is an ok pick but idk Kalan Reed could've been a good steal. Chris Moore pick I don't like it was atleast 2 or 3 receivers on the board better to me. Overall a B draft so far.
Im more concerned that they are still using headline photos of players in those mustard colored pants.
I wonder why we don't take the design of the practice jerseys with the purple #s and make it into a game jersey. Then maybe add some purple pants with all black socks. If it's done right thst could be a nice uniform maybe.

Or pick up Cody Whitehair at #1 OG 37th and still have a shot at Floyd or Brothers at 70th.
then feed the Defense with 4-7th DB, LB and PASS Rushers -"potential missed gems" as OZ would put it. Still have a shot at some FA and cap casualties.
Jayson smith is risky but the reward part about him is so great so I actually like that.
54 minutes ago, bigcatfrank1 said:Whats his story? Is he a RFA? does he have any offers or is he being shopped. DO you think that the Ravens can get him at a certain price and for what kind of deal? give us some details
He's an athletic linebacker that is familiar with the 3-4 defense. Was on the titans but was kinda underused. He's underrated. Can rack up tackles but play coverage also. Plus he's only 26 and doesn't have much wear and tear him. Only about 3 teams are looking at him but he's really "under the radar" so he will probably sign for about 2, 3 mill tops probably. Not saying he's a superstar because he was consistent at times, that's why I said the draft would be good probably. He will get the job done though.
Like I said though Flacco is appreciated especially by me. He's our best QB in franchise history and is one of the top clutch QBs ever probably.
It's not that we don't appreciate Flacco. It's the exact opposite because he comes through when we need him constantly, but we know that he's not worth his contract and that he's a clutch top 12 to 10 QB that's nowhere near elite though.
I'm going to keep saying it... sign Zach Brown, he's underrated and will come cheap for us. In our system he has potential to be pretty good. If not then draft one in the middle to later rounds
1 hour ago, bigcatfrank1 said:Zach Brown is a good move if the price is right, he may have his best football ahead of him. 2-3 mil tops. Ill take Rueben Randle for that cash. Upshaw, Aiken and West need deals. Then the draft.
Too bad Randle signed with the Eagles. If I knew he was gonna sign for cheap like that, I would've wanted us to get him. Also I think Zach Brown might sign for cheap because he's kind of a "under the radar" player. Unfortunately I don't think the Ravens are even looking at him.
You know a player in this free agency that is underrated... Zach Brown, he's a good young linebacker who I think would he a good pickup for us or any team.

This comment makes even less sense considering you're downing mike Wallace, who was one of Ben's receivers...
And not just any one, THE one...as in number 1.
Yea but that was like when Wallace was what 24 and he had ben. Him nor Weddle should be signed by us, they're past their primes. Also ben did make receivers look better and vise versa. A few years ago though I would've loved for him to come here because we would've actually used him right.

You're right I just want this offseason to go great because I feel like we are so close to another Super Bowl but our few holes that we have are big ones that need to be filled immediately but also the correct way.
