  1. Mallet is no Flacco.

He'll be a great backup and could easily start for a QB-needy team. That it, that's all. Unless we're all watching a different NFL in bizzaro world... Flacco has been, and will be the core of the Ravens. Joe has been money since his rookie season, and Mallet's sample-size is smaller than Clausen's head.

  2. As far as Pees goes, I think the FO is just waiting for the season to end. They'll move on, and start looking for someone who build the next great D. That's one thing I've grown to respect about the franchise... Outside of the Cam firing, they don't knee-jerk and there's no need to in a lost season. Pees will find work elsewhere. Rightfully so, as he could be competent with the right players.

The offense was still working under Kubiak's playbook, and Trestman will get a chance to use his own next year. I don't think the O is a problem when healthy... But, the D can't give up leads. Biscotti and Harbs have acknowledged this, and we may see a surprising hire for the DC.

  3. That would be a big mistake in my opinion. Counting on SSS who will be 37 and is coming off of an injury that saps explosion is not smart. BP is an unknown and Camp can't last a full season yet. We need at least two more playmakers at the WR position, regardless of if they're draft picks or veterans.

I don't disagree at all, I just feel like that's going to be the outcome lol. Like you said... We broke. Even freeing up 10 mil, I'm not sure enough will be there to get someone like Garcon. I would love that though.

  4. I think we can find a way to sign Garçon. The front office has to really want him though to make it possible since we're broke lol. I could see him in a Ravens jersey.

I have a feeling we're going into next season with SSS, BP, Aiken, Butler, Camp and a draft pick. They might go after a budget WR, but I think they're going to put FA money into the D. Could be wrong, but if those guys are healthy it might not be so bad. BIG IF.

  5. 2012 Terrell Suggs - missed first 6 games due to achilles tear, came back too soon and played rest of season while still recovering from said tear

2012 Ray Lewis - Shell of his former self, missed last 10 games with tricep tear.  Painfully obvious that his body slowed down in the post season.  Run defense actually improved after his injury (anybody remember the back to back 200 yard rushing games allowed with Ray??

2012 Ed Reed - Shell of his former self.  Played the next season for 2 different teams and hasn't played since.

Let's be realistic, none of these players was really doing much for anybody during 2012.    Pees has had one of the most injured Ravens defenses during his tenure here and most don't want to acknowledge that for some reason.  I said it in another thread, even Rex's 2007 squad looked horrible after all those injuries they had.

Not disagreeing that the situation hasn't been ideal, but something does need to change. The willingness to settle for average is not something this team should be setting itself up for. Injuries, or not.

  6. I've never been a fan of Pees. The drop-off was noticeable as soon as he took over. Let's not forget that he did have Suggs, Ray, Ed in 2012, and still had trouble closing out games. While he's had some bright spots (2013 partially, 2014 before injuries) he has been very inconsistent.

That said, this team is still lacking talent at key positions, and injuries have derailed back-to-back seasons now. I think change is on the horizon with this defense. Many of us grew up with one of the most dominant Ds in NFL history, and are now watching one of the worst. Refs/rule changes, etc all go into this too, but I think it's time for a change.

If I had to pick another ... It would be a really punishing run game. I miss that too.

  7. The good : Aiken ,Aiken , and Aiken. Time for everybody to realize he's going to be a large part of our offense next year. He's been extremely consistent with mediocre quarterback play. I didn't get to see the game on television so did anybody notice how tray walker and some of the other younger guys held up?

Yeah, agreed. Aiken has developed on a level previously unseen by Raven WRs. He's a keeper. Didn't see much of Walker but I'm not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. Za'Darius had a decent game, Daniel Brown had an ugly game. Buck fumbled away all momentum and immediately went into the doghouse. Butler had a decent game. Not many bright spots otherwise.

  8. Flacco isn't going anywhere regardless of if he restructures or not but I trust he'll get it done. Ozzie needs to be wary of who he hands out long term contracts to because Pitta, Webb, Rice and Monroe have really hurt us with the cap. If someone is oft-injured or has had a major injury and is up there in age (Webb/Pitta) has a bad or nonchalant attitude (Monroe) is regressing (Rice) or doesn't play like a Raven, you don't hand him a huge contract. If he wants to test the market, fine, let him test the market. If he comes back with his tail in between his legs, give him a one year deal to prove he's worth keeping in the long term if he's similar to one of the players above. Some of these contracts handed out over the years have become maddening. It's like we're making friendly decisions instead of business decisions and now we're in cap hell.

Part of the problem is that we've rewarded good play with lengthy contracts. We paid for past performances. Webb, Monroe were both highly praised at the time of signing, but injuries wrecked them. Pitta was a big risk, imo and I hope we have learned from that. Rice... Well, oops.

  9. AND he just lost his best bargaining chip, reliable. You WERE. Now youve had a big time injury. Will it continue to be a issue? Those are question and tactics to use against that punk Linta.

In the modern era, ACL injuries do not impact contracts. Joe will take what makes him the most gtd money, but I think it'll be team friendly.

You're right about Monroe's and pretty much everything else. The Pats are rolling with scrubs on the line. We have some pretty glaring coaching issues on both sides, but I think the offense is much closer to being competent.

I don't think anyone is saying we should resign KO for sure, but it's obvious that they are testing the waters with the LT position. Keeping KO at either LG or LT will be near impossible with our cap next season, however, they must have something in mind other than driving up his cost? Or maybe that's just it.

  10. Nope.  Apparently having no real pass rusher outside of Dumervil, LBs and safeties that can't cover, and players that commit stupid penalties while missing tackles is all Pees' fault.  According to some, changing DCs is what fixes things.  Some forget how Rex's defense looked when he had players named David Pittman, Corey Ivy, and Derrick Martin.  Sadly, nobody gives Pees credit for doing better last season with a crushed secondary than even Rex did in 07 with a crushed secondary

We've seen the same out of Pees since the day he came in the door. Bend don't break, which always breaks. It almost cost us a Super Bowl. It doesn't seem to matter the caliber of talent. He's had one solid year, 2013, and while injuries certainly don't help, and have caused a lot of problems... This defense needs identity. It has none. That is a coaching problem.
