Denver has a fine play-caller on the defensive side, and they are just loaded with talent. Why do you think Stewart has been so good there? It's because he can focus solely on his position, and doesn't need to be worried about the players around him. Remember that this Denver D was not healthy in the SB two years ago, so that's another factor. I can't stand Elway or the Broncos, but credit is due here for building an absolute bully on D. They are rushing four most of the time, and Vonn is just perfect on his timing. Ware is a beast too. This comes from very good coaching and genuine talent.
Ravens need to get a couple playmakers, stay healthy, and play to their talents. Denver has done that all season.

The Ravens really don't gain any leverage by waiting in my opinion. Theoretically, the leverage would come from the ability to cut Joe, but that's also not a realistic option. And both Flacco and Linta know this...
True, and I doubt they really want to wait anyway. The only rationale I can see behind it would be health issues, and from what we've heard Joe is ahead of schedule. Or, the FO playing games with Linta to drive a bargain (obviously they won't). It would certainly be in everyone's favor to just get it done now.
I'm sure it's tempting for them to sit on the contract this coming season, especially considering the Ravens have more leverage after, but I have a feeling they will get something done soon.
Flacco isn't up for debate as far as being a franchise QB. Some people need to their eyes checked.
Brought back the team from mutiny? If they practice with pads that week who knows if they win the super bowl. Tomlin is an awful coach. Everyone said Reed and Lewis spent a ton of time studying film during the week. Reed always seemed to know what the opposing QB was doing. You are giving Harbaugh credit for the team going 5-11? Well than you would be happy with just about every coach who ever coached in the NFL. As most can get a 5-11 season out of a team.
No, I gave him credit for much more than that. But, you refused to touch any of that because it's true. Who you rather be the coach of this team? What's your solution? Name that coach.
Also, what evidence do you have of Reed being a good coach outside of his time on the field? I'm glad I haven't lived in MD for 12 years and can see things a little more objectively. Some people on this board do nothing but complain about having one of the best coaches/franchises in the NFL. And everyone outside of the local area knows it. Ask Broncos/Pats fans what they think of Harbaugh, and no, not the internet trolls. Real fans.
Yeah Harbaugh doens't know defense and doesn't know offense. Hates the players who got him to the Super Bowl victory yet he is adored on here. Reed should be coaching for the Ravens.
Can't tell if sarcasm... or...? Harbaugh is one of the reasons we won the super bowl. He's the person who brought the team back from their mutiny, and coached this team on a wave of emotion to a Lombardi. He's the person who shifted the OL going into the playoffs, who called the safety to end it all. He's also out-coached Tomlin 8-3 in the last 11 meetings, made a run at NE with 19 starters on IR last year, and kept this team from going 2-14 this year.
The homerism over Reed is insane. I love the guy, but who knows if he'll be any good as a coach, and personally I couldn't care less to find out w/the Ravens on his first try.
We all need to move on from the Lewis/Reed era. We will always have the memories, and the Super Bowl, and will continue to honor all of the legends during the season. But it's time to move on and focus on building the future rather than holding onto the past. Reed in Buffalo makes 10x more sense than Reed in Baltimore.
Seriously. It's not a big deal. If the Ravens decide they want Reed back as a coach in a few years, then that is great. Otherwise, there's not reason to reach on him as a coach right now. Rex is against the wall and needs to do everything he can to retain a job up there. I hope Ed does great, and I wish him well, but I don't think having him back as a coach would be a smart move anytime soon. Nostalgia isn't the way to win games.
I'm actually excited about it. Ed is a good fit with Rex. Will be fun to hear reviews on him. I bet they get the nod for hard knocks as well
Same here. The freak out over this is a bit much. Who knows how he'll do, but I hope he does great.
We swept the Steelers, and came within a few plays of splitting w/the Bengals. No need to panic. Cinci has been a thorn in the side for years now, and if we can find a way to cover AJ Green more consistently, I'm not scared of the bungles.
I've accepted the fact that he'll be here next season.
It's funny to me however how no team is expressing any interest in him for any kind of open position thoughout the league. After a five win season, you would think some kind of important change would be made, especially for a rather underperforming defense that allowed the likes of Josh McCown to throw for almost 500 yards against us.
If it was up to me, I would've fired Dean and promoted Monachino, and I think it's a mistake letting the latter leave, but hey, who am I?
For real, figured he'd be a hot commodity as an offensive coordinator.
A few months ago, I thought there was no shot.
Now, if they think KO can be the future LT, its gaining in possibility on me. Still think its a 50/50 shot, but that's higher than I thought a month or two ago.
Its feasible under the cap. Would require us to cut Monroe and probably some other veterans, but its feasible. Joe's extension alone could pave the way, but timing is key there.
If we retain KO, I think it'll be for roughly 7-8/year. Yanda got roughly the same. I can also see a scenario where it's a little less but it has escalators built in the deal where he gets incentives if he plays LT, x amount of snaps at LT, etc.
I'd like to see it happen for continuity purposes. There's a question of health with KO too, though. It would certainly be nice to have his versatility, and allow Jensen to step up as well. That could leave Urschel as depth, but I guess they'll have to battle it out in TC. Not a bad problem to have.
Probably similar to Monroe's, maybe a little more money.
Probably a $4-5M cap hit in year 1, escalating to the $7-8M range over the rest of the deal.
So it's not out of the question entirely. But almost entirely rides on Joe getting an extension and other moves being made. Or, just signing KO and pretty much no one else.
I'd love Joe Thomas here but I would be surprised if the Browns traded him to us. That seems almost too unrealistic for even me to consider, and I like to consider myself pretty open-minded. Maybe it could happen as part of some 3-team trade, which I can't think of the last time that's ever happened. I recall it happening once, but I can't remember the details of it. I could be wrong, maybe it never happened. My memory is weird sometimes.
Anyway, I'd love Joe Thomas. He's a top-5 LT and arguably the best in the business.
What about KO? In theory, if we signed him to a deal... What do you think the structure would look like over the course of it?
What are people's opinions on Zuttah? Do we hold onto him and move Urshel to LG and hunt for a LT? Or do we let him go and give the job to Urshel and need a LG and a LT? A new C, LG, and LT if we think Urshel's not ready?
According to OTC, Cutting Zuttah and his $4.6 million hit would save us:
1.2 million Pre-June 1st
3.5 million Post-June 1st
Personally, I think you keep Zuttah. He's not a world beater, but he's really solid and didn't have many injuries before this season. The more continuity on the line, the better.
I know we all like to be interpreters of hidden meaning but sometimes we need to realize there is none. It's hard to guess what he meant by that comment without the context, question, preceding and succeeding statements.
Just like Mallett and his comment that he isn't Joe, we shouldn't attempt to put words in his mouth without further details. It certainly sounds strange, out of character, and almost "deal with it," as you imply. Let's see how it plays out.
This was posted right before;
Flacco said that he hasn't talked to anybody about contract. But with a 28.5 mill cap hit next year, he knows it likely will be addressed

I wouldn't put much thought into the other comment. It's out of context.
I would like to believe that Flacco/Linta feel a sense of urgency as well. Getting that extension done before FA would be a huge deal for the coming season.
I commend your effort though.
Lol, thanks. I had to think long and hard to find any reason, and those reasons are not great.
Whole bunch of reasons to let Pees go, but what are the reasons to keep him?
I'll give three reason for the sake of argument. I'll preface this by saying I believe we should make a change, and move on from Pees...
1.) Continuity — When Pees has had a full squad, he's been ok. Average overall. His best year was 2013 and towards the end of this year he had a few solid game plans.
2.) Suggs — Probably the biggest problem this season was losing Suggs. Without Suggs, the scheme changes, there's much less pass rush and the secondary is hung out to dry. They aren't good, but they could be better.
3.) Playmakers — If we had a couple more, especially in the secondary, maybe Pees D can work better.
Ok, that was a stretch, and honestly, I was reaching on the last point. Again, I think we should move on, but for argument's sake... there you have it.
It's pretty obvious that some here are not watching the same Ravens the rest of us are.
Anyone who thinks Mallet is better, more confident, or poised than Joe, is simply not paying attention.
Ask Patriots' fans what they think of Joe.
At least we got that big win last week to knock Pittsburgh out of the playoffs. It was totally worth the loss in draft position, right? Right?
Absolutely.
Let's give Trestman his fair shake at a healthy offense. I wasn't a fan of his hire, but I'm pretty excited to see how well he performs with a healthy Perriman/Flacco/SSS and 2-3 solid RBs.
I meant to give you an up vote but accidentally turned out to be negative.
Haha, all good!
Regardless of what happens with KO, it speaks volumes about the FO being able to see his potential across the line. He's either coming back, or netting us a sweet comp pick. The FO has been under the gun this season, rightfully so in some aspects, but they still know the system better than most.
Yea i think Joe is back and ready for TC. Ill say it now i think he has the best season of his career next year....as long as we dont lose 50million to the IR
I agree with this. Many franchise QBs have come back better after ACL injuries. It's speculative, but I read somewhere that for most of these guys, it's the first time they are really focused on watching the games instead of preparing/playing them. It gives them a chance to reevaluate their mental game and pick out their mistakes.
Flacco's best seasons are ahead of him, barring any health concerns for him or the team.

Gotta agree with a lot of what is being said here. The Broncos didn't scheme anything flashy, they just have a wealth of talent on the D. A lot of those guys are geting paid after this. Trevathan, Jackson, Ware are probably hitting FA. But, maybe they retain Jackson. Vonn is obviously getting paid. Talib is a [profanity deleted], but he's solid. CHJ was an UFA iirc. Stewart was able to focus entirely on his own game because of the talent around him.
