  1. Flacco is 30 years old and with his build and barring a devastating injury will probably be playing until he's 40. Not trying to insult you here, but I just don't think taking a QB that high in the first round is the right way to go when there is other highly rated talent out there.
  2. not at #6. I think he's too small and too slow, but I am not a professional scout so my opinion isn't any more valid than anybody else.
  3. No I get the point. My point is simple... we will never have a fully healthy team. Its borderline impossible in the NFL. Jimmy Smith gets back to 100%, and then Weddle tears an ACL. That's how things work. Injuries are frequent enough that they should be expected, both at key and non-key positions. If we are evaluating a team based on how they would perform when they are perfectly healthy, then we aren't make a reasonable evaluation of a team by any stretch. As for upgrades, we simply don't know. Much like 2013, we THINK we upgraded. If Wallace and Watson aren't that important to the offense, it won't surprise me one bit, because these aren't game changing-type players we are acquiring. And not to mention... we lost some players who were pretty good for us last season, some of which are at positions we have yet to or might not even upgrade. One thing that all good football teams in the league have is depth. When they suffer significant injuries (and they all do), they have respectable players who can fill those roles. In the last 2-3 years, one could argue that's been our biggest weakness... lack of depth. And I don't see where we've done enough "upgrading" in that area thus far (again pre-draft, which changes everything) to think this team is capable of taking a major leap forward into serious playoff contenders. And ironically, some of the reasons you are arguing for us to be fully healthy (like Jimmy and Wagner coming back in year 2 from major injuries) are some of the same concerns we carry into this season. Do we really know if Joe will be 100% this season? How about Steve Smith... still the de factor top WR on this team, aging and off an achilles tear? Crockett Gillmore is still hurt from last season and its April. Pitta may never play again. Perriman still hasn't played and isn't in football shape to play right now. Same questions about injuries we had coming into 2015 can easily apply to 2016... only the names on the jerseys are different. Then my point stands. This team, if it can keep the starters on the field, I think is a 10 win team...that's even before the draft. I am not expecting Pitta to play this year, I think Watson is an overall upgrade at the position. Gillmore will be fine and Maxx Williams is a good #2 TE at this point. Steve Smith has some valid options with Perriman hopefully returning and Wallace coming to town. Hopefully this will help us not rely on him as much, but knowing he is there and what he's capable of is nice to have. Jimmy Smith and Rick Wagner are bound to be healthier this upcoming season. I still think Suggs has quite a bit left in the tank. The Ravens have a pretty good team, or are fans simply forgetting that we've gone to the playoffs so many times in the recent past?
  4. Rodgers was hurt last season and had a pretty poor season compared to his normal. I am sure if you take his career numbers he ranks out much higher. Most would consider him one of the top 5 QBs in the game right now without a question and some would argue he's the best QB in the game right now. There are not 64 starting left tackles in this league. There are 32, so ranking 15th out of those you'd be league average for a starting LT.
  5. We did get Flacco. That was pretty significant imo. We have had two bad seasons in the last eight. I'll take that any day. I'm sure the Ravens will select the best they can get at six. I trust in Oz. 2006: Haloti Ngata (DT), Sam Koch (P) 2007: Ben Grubbs (OG), Marshal Yanda (OG) 2008: Joe Flacco (QB), Ray Rice (RB) 2009: Paul Kruger (DE/OLB), Michael Oher (OT), Lardarius Webb (DB) 2010: Dennis Pitta (TE), Arthur Jones (DE/DT) 2011: Jimmy Smith (CB), Torrey Smith (WR), Pernell McPhee (DL), Tyrod Taylor (QB) 2012: Kelechi Osemele (OG) 2013: Brandon Williams (NT), Kyle Juszcyzk (FB), Rick Wagner (OT) 2014: Timmy Jernigan (DT), Crockett Gillmore (TE) 2015: Yet to be determined because of playing time but: Breshard Perriman (WR), Maxx Williams (TE), Carl Davis (DT), Za'Darius Smith (OLB) Not saying all these guys are HOF'ers, but most of them were/are solid contributors or will be asked to step into more of a starting role in the near future like Perriman, Williams, Davis, and Z. Smith.
  6. i like listenbee as well. not sure he is worth a 3rd but i would definitely use one of our 4 4th rd picks on him. he could be the next edelman or welker I like the potential of Moritz Boehringer, the German guy. I know the competition he played against wasn't quite as high as our top college level, but the guy is 6'4'' 223lbs and put up great combine numbers. Not sure where people think he grades out as a talent, but I would take a late round flier on him easy. You can't teach size or speed. We have 4 6' 5" receivers on our team already. Marlon Brown, Daniel Brown, Darren Waller and a fourth one I can't remember Chris somebody who played for Seattle in the SB. Why would you need a 5th from a small school? Doesn't make sense for us. Marlon Brown hasn't done a thing except be hurt since his rookie season. Daniel Brown had some big plays but he's hardly proven, Darren Waller is moving to TE, and that other guy is Chris Matthews who hasn't done anything since the Super Bowl. Boehringer isn't coming from a small school, he's coming from the German Pro League. And if you compare his physical traits (speed, agility, etc.) I think he's a much better athlete other than Waller, but he's also faster than Waller I think. All of these guys were late round picks, most of them signing tenders which means you can cut them without much or any impact to your cap space. So yeah, you get a guy with that size with that athletic ability and if he can catch a football at all, it makes perfect sense.
  7. fastynart you seem to trash Monroe on a pretty regular basis. I mean i get it, the guy is hurt a lot. But if you knew what you were looking at and knew anything about playing left tackles you would realize that Monroe is a top 10-15 tackle in this league when he is playing. So go for it question his dedication to the game or his toughness but realize that he is a decent left tackle when he is playing. If you can't see that I would be happy to teach you about the position. There are 32 teams in the NFL so saying a player is around the top 15 is pretty much saying he's an average player because 16 would be right in the middle. That being said I think that is what a healthy Monroe is. He's solid but not spectacular and he's good enough to protect Joe for another year or maybe two until we find a replacement.
  8. i like listenbee as well. not sure he is worth a 3rd but i would definitely use one of our 4 4th rd picks on him. he could be the next edelman or welker I like the potential of Moritz Boehringer, the German guy. I know the competition he played against wasn't quite as high as our top college level, but the guy is 6'4'' 223lbs and put up great combine numbers. Not sure where people think he grades out as a talent, but I would take a late round flier on him easy. You can't teach size or speed.
  9. If Tunsil is there I agree with you, but I don't take Stanley with the #6 pick.
  10. have to give up too much just to move up 3 spots. they would want a 2nd and maybe a 4th and we need our 1-3 rd picks badly to infuse youth into the defense. suggs and doom are 34 and 33 this season and all we have in pass rushing youth is z.smith. maybe brent urban becomes a monster if he can stay healthy. he showed promise at the end of the season Don't count out Lawrence Guy. I think he's one of our better front line guys and just was under the radar since we gnabbed him from San Diego. I like Urban's potential but the guy has to stay healthy. We also need to see a bit more from Carl Davis this year. I have a feeling Dwight Freeney is coming to town to be a situational pass rusher...depending on what we can do in the draft.
  11. I think we're in a great spot. We've got a great chance of an awesome player falling to us or perhaps some QB starved team will make us a deal we can't refuse to get ahead of SF to draft the second QB if Cleveland doesn't take one at #2. The Ravens are really gonna have to be blown away by a trade. I highly doubt they will trade back because they haven't had a top 10 pick in a long time and I am sure they're hoping they won't have another one for a long time to come.
  12. I'm not a hater, I just simply don't think Bosa is all that good and won't be as much of a "play wrecker" as he was in college. I am willing to go out on a limb and say he won't be as good as people around here think. If the Ravens draft him I of course hope he turns into a beast for us, but I would be happier if they pass on him. I don't believe the hype and think his negatives are strong enough concerns to outweigh some of his positives.
  13. There are some mocks out there that have Tunsil dropping to 6th. I don't really put much faith in mock drafts but I suppose if things do go a certain way that could happen. I could also easily see a team that is close enough to a top pick that really wants or needs Tunsil trading up to get him. But, if he's sitting there at #6 it really does not become a tough choice. Our offensive line took a hit when it lost Osemele. Eugene Monroe appears to be on the downside of his career now. If he's healthy he can start at LT and if we draft Tunsil he could perhaps play at RT over Wagner (who is coming off a lisfranc and didn't look nearly as good in 2015 as he did in 2014) or he could start at LG which makes a little more sense to me since our starting options are Ryan Jensen or John Urschel. That sure wouldn't be a sexy pick and it might be the safest pick in the draft, but what's wrong with that when he's the highest rated player in the draft so he's definitely best player available, also fits a need, and could be a franchise LT for years to come? I would be higher on Jack if he came back with a clearer medical report. Some teams weren't happy with his medicals and maybe that's a smoke screen in an attempt to get his draft stock to fall. If he's our guy I hope to heck the Ravens know for sure that knee is not going to be an issue. I'm not high on Bucker or Bosa. I don't think Ramsey will be there at 6.
  14. You can debate it all you want, it doesn't mean those scouts are right. You also have to remember that these analyses come based off of college level talent and not pro level talent. He might be great at defending the run in college, but when he gets into the NFL where everyone is bigger, stronger, faster, he might not be as stout. Not only that, but we don't need a run stuffing OLB, we need a pass rusher. Our problem has also been coverage from our line backing crew and that is one of the weaknesses of Bosa. If you are going to trumpet what he does well and pay attention to that analysis, then you should put just as much stock into the negatives. What follows is a quip from NFL.COM: " Bosa has a few more flaws than some may be willing to admit and his upside might be good rather than great, but his traits and growth potential as a player make him a safe selection. Bosa might be at his best with a defensive coordinator willing to move him around the field." Bosa is too small to play DE in our scheme. He's not strong enough to play DE in our scheme either. So his versatility would only come at both OLB spots and in our defense they are our rushers. There is some debate about whether he'll be great. He doesn't have elite speed, doesn't have elite strength, has issues in coverage, doesn't fit our scheme, and will need to be "disguised" in order to get the most out of him. Oh, did I mention he has some character issues? No thanks.
  15. There is a chance that Tunsil could drop to us at #6 now and if that happens I am all for that pick. I wouldn't be thrilled about taking Stanley with that pick though.
  16. I mean obviously there was potential there, but if the Rams were in fact interested in 6, then we would have had a deal. Most likely they know who they want, probably Wentz and they didn't want Cleveland to get him. the chances of us selecting Buckner are the slimmest out of all the top prospects and I get his knocks at going 6th. But Bosa on the other hand, you're completely wrong. He would have a major impact right away as he can set the edge at an elite level, provides toughness and durability, can help keep Suggs and Dumervil fresh, and he has a high revving motor that can be utilized on the field at the same time as Suggs, Dumervil, and Jernigan, in obvious passing downs.. You've got no idea if Bosa can do anything at an elite level in the NFL. People just assume he can drop into coverage, but if you read reports on him it says he actually struggles in that department and he's got a hitch in his get along when he tries to change directions, which is exactly what you do in coverage. I don't know that if I am picking a top 10 pick that I want it to be a guy I have to put into schemes and manipulate my entire defense in order for it to benefit him. I want a guy that can already come into my system and be a 3 down player.
  17. I'd be with that pick ONLY if the Ravens are convinced that knee is 100%. I don't want a Clowney pick.
  18. I don't like Thursday night games either. All this hype about player safety and you continue to give players a short recovery time like this? The NFL should give teams that have a Thursday game a bye the week before and after it.
  19. Ravens just dropped two TE's in Chase Ford and Harold Spears.
  20. You're missing the point entirely. Jimmy Smith was probably at best 80% last season. You'd have to think once he's actually healthy again he'd improve his play. Webb was also continually banged up and is now moving to FS and away from CB and Shareece Wright didn't play until near the end of the season when the secondary improved and now he's coming back to potentially be a starter again. Steve Smith coming back and not dealing with micro fractures in his back and hopefully a fully healed ACL will make him better than he already was. Breshard Perriman is hopefully coming back and we didn't even have him on the field last season. I would think if Jimmy Smith is progressing in his healing from his lisfranc injury that Rick Wagner is in the same boat and should improve with a healthier foot. A healthy Eugene Monroe (hopefully) is better than one suffering from injuries and a back up. This team also did upgrade. Weddle is now in the secondary and even if he's not quite as good as he once was, he's better than anyone else whose been out there. Watson gives us better depth at TE so that gives Gillmore a chance to heal up, Maxx Williams to bone up on the playbook, and Pitta a chance to resume playing. Wallace gives us an extra deep threat and insurance of at least having one if Perriman can't get on the field. There is a solid core on this team that is still very good. Obviously hitting some home runs in the draft will improve this team, but the team was already pretty good to start with. Having guys back that were starters being healthy will make all the difference in the world. I don't know how anyone could argue that point.
  21. And even if the Browns don't like what is left between Goff and Wentz, perhaps some other team does value that choice more and will trade up to get that player? I don't care how it happens, but if 2 QB's go before the Ravens pick at #6 I bet I am not the only happy camper in Ravens Land.
  22. Jimmy Smith and Eugene Monroe were not healthy at the start of the season. Smith tried to play through his injury and finally Monroe had to stop playing. Steve Smith also was playing with some back injuries before he tore his ACL. The secondary was all banged up as well as Webb wasn't 100% healthy. If you think this team was completely healthy at the start of the season you'd be wrong. Rick Wagner was also playing the whole season coming off of a lisfranc injury like Jimmy Smith's.
  23. Boldin is currently a FA looking for work and not finding any. At his age he was going to decline and the Ravens gambled it would happen sooner rather than later. Torrey Smith move shouldn't be questioned. He signed a HUGE deal in SF and flamed out badly. That was a no brainer move. Ngata? Do you know what Ngata did with his new fat contract? Sat on it on the DL and is now fighting for a starting spot in a defensive rotation. We got the best years out of Ngata and he was showing signs of braking down, plus the PED suspension in his last season with us. That was a smart move. Pollard had one last decent season with the Titans, then got hurt and missed most of last year, then he was cut and he's still looking for work. Also has a reputation of being a locker room problem. Ihedigbo had a great 2014, but then flamed out in 2015 and lost his starting job, then got cut and he's currently looking for a job. I think you should do a little research on these things before you make a comment like this. It is always better to get rid of somebody a year too soon than a year too late. In every single one of these moves, the Ravens were on the right side of them.
  24. With the Rams trading up to #1 pick that pretty much makes it a lock that at least 1 QB is going before the Ravens pick. If the Browns panic and take the other QB between Goff and Wentz then that means one of the studs we're hoping for in Baltimore has to fall to us. Baltimore doesn't have to cut Webb to get Whitner in the house. They can turn down the option on Elam if he still looks like the bust he's been so far, they can cut Kendrick Lewis who was awful, or they can cut Terrence Brooks whose been injured every single year he's been here. Anthony Levine is probably a keeper because he can also play corner and is a special teams player. All that being said, I don't think the Ravens will get Whitner. They've had thumpers on the back end of the defense for several years now and have released them promptly in an effort to get better coverage; Will Demps, James Ihedigbo, Will Hill, and Bernard Pollard. Not sure why they'd go back to a formula with Whitner that they think doesn't work anymore. I would have rather had Reggie Nelson whom signed with the Raiders for only $2 million in actual money. As for Kobe Bryant, who the blankity blank blank really cares? Eugene Monroe and the Monroe family, congratulations on the new baby girl. The Ravens were a playoff team before this year's draft and all the injuries and a lot of that team is returning this year. I mean...we were on our 3rd and 4th options at starting WR, our 3rd and 4th RBs, 4th QB, back ups at C and LT, had nobody healthy in the secondary, and didn't have Suggs. So yeah, a strong draft would certainly help us, but I think you could say that about most teams. Getting all the starters back healthy would be enough for the Ravens to win 10 games.
  25. Um...don't we need to "kill" every draft? If we didn't strike out so much on the last few drafts we wouldn't be in the position of absolutely needing to "kill" this one.
