GRONK DONE FOR THE SEASON!!
we can win the AFC - we just need our offense to pull its damn finger out!!
6 hours ago, Ravensfan23 said:Because it's not always about instant gratification. Spence may be able to come in and get 5-8 sacks this season but what happens when he's asked to take on a larger role where other teams are game planing him? What happens when you ask him to play against the run consistently? What happens if you need him to drop in coverage at times? By stats alone ZDS had a strong rookie year and many expected him to breakout this year, how's that working out so far?
When you draft a guy you are drafting on a 3-5 year plan, not based on college tape alone. The front office didn't whiff. I'm sure they saw the same youtube clips that all of us saw lol. But how does he project to this Ravens defense and what well ask him to do? How does he project to the rough and physical style of the AFC North. Doom is a great pass rusher, but his body couldn't hold up when asked to be a 3 down OLB in this division.
Correa wasn't drafted to be a pass rush specialist. While the Ravens didn't expect him to be an inactive for games this season, basically knew they would be learning on the job for the role they envision him filling. The idea is for the reward of what this guy will be in years 2-4 will largely outweigh the struggles he'll have as a rookie. But of course with fans if the player isn't good instantly he's a bust and the FO blew it.
Many of those same fans who said Spence was better than Correa are the same fans who said you can't pass on Myles Jack because he's a generational talent, he's the next Ray Lewis, he's a can't miss. Well how is that working out? Can't put in context based on 1 season.
i hope we arent drafting in the high 2nd rnd with 2-4 or 3-5 year gameplans, id like plug and play rounds 1&2 - even if its just rotational - i dont want healthy scratches from my 2 top picks
3 onwards sit and learn, maybe youre showing us something and you get out there
theres another draft this year where we can grab some guys and again the following year
its laughable that we have holes all over this team and we spent a high 2nd on a developmental linebacker - especially when we have a history of developing undrafted guys or grabbing free agents
this is just a waste of a pick, waiting to be proved wrong

Pitta injured get rid of him Perriman is hurt he's a bust get rid of him, Maxx is hurt he's a bust get rid of him, Gillmore is hurt and is a good blocker but I don't think is any better than Boyle. Gillmore also is not very athletic so he is obviously not on Maxx's level there but in the little we have seen of Boyle I would take him over Gillmore. I like Gilmore but he isn't going to be the guy going forward next year Maxx should really make a leap but it is ll contingent on if Boyle can walk the line. The best ability is availability and Gillmore misses a bunch of games every year.
pretty much this, we need to just make the tough decisions and just move on from guys that cant stay healthy - we're talking about a middling TE - just cut the cord and be done with it - how many games has gilmore been active this year - 4??
we need to keep roster spots for people who are going to be available, if the man gets healthy - see if we can trade him for a late round pick
Spotrac estimates Pryor's market value at $10.76 million per year. The Tom Brady of sports salary websites says Pryor should receive a contract in the range of four years and $43 million, which would put his average annual salary at No. 75 overall and 11th among wide receivers.
im down for this if we can lure him away from the browns - I would like to see us give joe weapons he can just grow with and basically play with for the next 4 or 5 years, the man needs some consistency in his life - it looks like his 2 favourite targets are done - ssr retire, pittas not far off
Pryor & Perriman, Maxx hopefully as your dangerous pass catching TE other interchangeable parts but let that hopefully be the core for the next 4 or 5 years
10 hours ago, BOLDnPurPnBlacK said:No, the point is, and in the examples you came up with yourself - the bulk of the team is draft picks and bargain FA's playing above their pay grade.
When you have that majority of the team set, then yes, it's cool to spend somewhat big for veteran, proven additions at a key spot or two to put the team "over the top" so to speak. Like adding Revis, or Ware and Talib (but keep in mind, the Pats HAD Talib and let him walk to get Revis.... so they subtracted a big time FA to add one)... but anyways.
Thats when its ok to do, and historically we havent been opposed to doing that either. Adding Shannon Sharpe and Harrison when that team looked ready to win. Adding Boldin (though it was a trade)... while we also tried to acquire TO.
But, you dont build the team that way. You build through draft, resigning your own guys (because youve had years of seeing they not only perform, but perform here.... other teams guys may have a history of performing, but not performing as a Raven in the Ravens system). Once youve got the team in place thats a proven competitor, and you feel you're just a piece or two away from perhaps winning it all - then yea you splash a little to add that veteran piece.
The examples you gave werent teams coming off 8-8, 9-7 seasons where the squeaked into the playoffs. They were dominant division winners, and legit SB contenders that came up a little short.
While I dont think we're all that far off from being there, we just arent yet. And deciding to splurge your money too early, before youre at that level, can negatively effect your chances of ever getting back there, and shortening the window if/when you do.
Adding high priced FA's before youre a true contender will block younger players from getting reps at that position. So, you could have a cheap, unearthed gem sitting there that could have allowed you to spend that money elsewhere on another hole. Plus, youre prob not going to resign that guy and some other team gets his prime for far cheaper.
I'm not for spending just for the sake of spending. Thats dangerous thinking. BUT, sure... if a guy becomes available that you think is a sure fire play maker and will be a key cog for your team the next 5 years, ok. I think you should be evaluating that stuff all the time regardless of where your teams at. But, just saying ok we have $20m so lets spend $20m is where you get in trouble and overpay guys.
thank you for that awesomely long post - good thing i dont run the front office - id be splashing cash all over the show and we'd be 0 - 16

Hoping he's on this thought train - he's not super young but young enough for us - don't waste your peak in Cleveland

I would assume
13 minutes ago, Wildabeast88 said:I think if Boyle can keep himself out of trouble that he is all around better than Gillmore
Haha we're depending on a juicer, a stoner and the other guy can't stay healthy - not having much luck
Might need to trim some dead wood and add to this group again this year
be nice to get some reliable production from the position
we need to move on from Waller too - he needs to go after that stoopid touchdown celebration he did the other day!!
we miss Owen Daniels, he really helped that year he was in town
i would like to see us try and integrate our younger guys into things a bit more and just pull back a bit from pitta and Steve - we've had 11 games to see what they can do
would just like to see some plays called for Waller, Perriman and even Moore
Perriman has made catches and so has Waller
i def think it's worth a shot, this Offense doesn't really look capable of winning any playoff games
7 hours ago, trevorsteadman said:Pitta has been awful. Maxx Williams is on IR. Gillmore has been injured. I think they need to give Waller more shots in the endzone. Boyle just came back.
What all 3 of those teams you just said don't have though is a solid defense. Once they hit the playoffs when teams have both solid defenses and offenses they will struggle. Dallas may be able to overshadow it but I still think they are too young to go far.
Time to move on from Gilmore next season??
Hasn't showed much this season when he did play and he's struggling to stay fit big chunks of his career now. Maybe we can get a late round pick for him
mive forward with Maxx, Boyle & Waller,
14 minutes ago, Wildabeast88 said:Yes. I agree use Waller with Wallace and Perriman that would be one serious speed on the field at one time 3 guys who run 4.4 or better and let SSS and Dixon run some underneath stuff and make the D pick its poison.
I would even like to see this with Waller, Perriman, Moore & Wallace in the slot.
its not going to kill ssr if we he sits out a couple plays
wallace out of the slot has been dynamic
6 hours ago, hereweare said:Honestly, I like what Marty's been doing. He's been making Joe's job much easier with bunch formations, rub routes, simpler reads, crossing routes and RB options. Once play action becomes a thing Joe will succeed further. The absence of a real TE is notable this year.
He might be making his job easier but it hasn't really helped putting points on the board.
graham was playing in his first season and had a few sacks before doing his ACL and missing the end of his first season and most of his second
came back and put up numbers 3rd season
our guy ain't given us nothing, hopefully we see something next year
6 hours ago, Rav'n Maniac said:I would like to see Waller flying down the center of the field as a #1 or #2 read and more of Dixon on the wheel routes.
Line up some of speed outside, send them deep or deep crossing and just roll out the wheel into space
pretty sure we had a similar route against cinci, Dixon caught it with a guy in his grill but he had space - made him miss picked up the first down
Our guys just need space to work
1 hour ago, trevorsteadman said:As much as I agree Steve Smith should be mostly a slot guy at this stage in his career you have to move your pieces around to try to get different match ups and keep defenses guessing. I do agree the Ravens need to run more of those crossing routes with Wallace and Perriman because Wallace's 5 yard dink catches turn into 40 yards in half a second. I still think Steve Smith is still the best playmaker on the team though and even though he is at the late stage of his career he can still play and put the team on his back at times.
I think our tight ends didn't pan out with all the injuries and them all stinking when playing. I think we need to switch from multiple tight ends to more of those spread sets with the speed the receivers have. We may have one of the fastest offenses out there when we put the wide receivers out on the field. Wallace, Moore, Perriman at wide out and Dixon at running back really kills teams with speed.
Watching coaches film, seems like we just keep lining Steve up outside. had a quick look at the receiving numbers couple games he missed, Wallace had good numbers, Aiken too I think - need to rewatch,
I like when we send guys deep, with a crossing runner, or coming back into the space, or flare the back out, the deep burner clears out the space for all those options- one of Aikens receptions, first qtr, Moore runs deep, few defenders go with him for a split second, Aiken comes back - first down - was a decent chunk too
agreed re tight ends - let's just get our receivers out there and give them space, let's throw it up to our guys
Thread about the Offense, seems to be the one area holding this team back.
We know what we have in Flacco, there's no guessing or assumptions there - he is good enough for us to win a SB - no ifs, buts or maybes.
What do we need to do, what would you like to see, can it be fixed this year, are we foxing n just playing our cards close to our chest until the death.
Id personally just like to us spread teams out more, open up the field - joes got a rocket arm, we've got speed, let's open this bad boy up.
Watching coaches film of the game - really wish we'd start spreading teams out.
seems like we get good yardage and positive plays when we run 3 receiver sets, running out of it generates good yardage and the little dump offs to the back are a lot more effective
i really don't understand lining Steve smith up on the outside either, he's not beating anybody for speed anymore, he gets jammed at the line and he's too small to just throw back shoulders and 50/50s
homrstly think we need to not be so Steve smith focused - would like to see his snaps decreased
put perriman and Moore on the outside - if the corner plays up take a shot if they sag take the quick pass, run Wallace out of the slot - we have so much speed lets start using it, we hsve to start using and threatening our speed
we have Wallace, Perriman and Moore - sizeable burners and we're throwing little underneath passes and dump offs to smith, Aiken and our backs
Our misdirection plays are poo too, enough already, nobody respects our sweeps
just spread our guys out and give everybody space to make plays
The question against the Dolphins and I think every game going forward will be - can our offense score enough points to win.
If we crack 20 @ home we should be ok against Miami - I hope
one TD and 5 FG - sounds about right

Yes please - how do you ignore somebody on here
For the love of god can we start taking some shots downfield!!
perriman hauls in a 50/50 on the TD, laid out and nearly hauled in a deep ball.
get the back n Boyle to help with some protection, give them a chance to get downfield and give them a chance to make a play
this seasons been painful to watch, never had so many weapons and we're just throwing little dinks for no yardage, then we get stuffed on a run, here comes the pressure, incomplete or throw short of the marker
maybe it's a master plan and we're keeping all our plays under wraps until it's crunch time and we're in the playoffs
i haven't watched the coaches film - are any of our receivers getting open down the field, are we even sending people over the top??
Terrelle Pryor 130 yards today, get that man in the building.
Think it would really help Joe, if we add some size to that group.

16 minutes ago, Ravensfan23 said:Not sure what people are looking for from KC right now. He spent the entire OTAs, minicamp and training camp at ILB which was basically a new position for him. The guy he was competing with to win the starting job is currently playing at a Pro Bowl level. Are we really surprised he's not playing much? He wasn't really brought in as a OLB, the Ravens want him to be a ILB/OLB hybrid type. Problem was the coaches placed to much on him rather than just giving him one position to learn.
He's only had defensive snaps in 5 games and 4 of those games he saw 6 snaps or less. Not sure we can say what he is or isn't based on that. Then the one start he had, he actually played well. Had 2 tackles a forced fumble and set the edge really well in that game. He still has plenty of work to do but when you consider he's only been on the field every now and then, it's a good sign that he seems to make a play when on the field. I just think it's frustrating that he's not seeing the field given the history of our 2nd round picks
a contribution, some sort of impact
i dont really blame him, more the front office
i just dont understand drafting somebody just to try and teach them / play them at a different position, we only get so many years out of these guys on their rookie contracts and you pick somebody with the intention to teach him a new position - which you know full well could take a season or 2
i can understand getting guys and having them split time, or late round picks sitting their rookie year but not a high 2nd rd pick
given the lack of impact and success, we've had over the last few years with our high draft picks - this pick has me a little dumbfounded
one thought i continually have - looking at this years class of pass rushers - maybe ozzie and co were happy to ride sizzle, doom and whatever else they could assemble, whilst picking up those couple extra picks which turned into whoever - judon, moore??
look to grab a pass rusher in this years draft, from a stronger deeper group
understand the approach but still could have traded back and grabbed somebody who's contributing
hope you prove us wrong KC - don't turn out to be Arthur Brown 2.0

No doubt BUT all I'm seeing when I read that - is Gronk sitting up in Krafts suite looking down as we shut out Brady & Belichick in the second half in Foxborough to win the AFC Championship on our way to the Superbowl.
plus the pats defense has just sent out Collins n Jones.
Is our defense that good again? If Doom is back and can give us some pass rush and Jimmy can be healthy - maybe??
Can we get there, think that firmly rests on Joes shoulders, Marty and the Offense - really hope these guys are putting in work - AFC looks ripe for the picking in my eyes.
