I just want some big bodied strong wr, last time we had that we won a SB
speed on the perimeter, size and strong hands down the guts
it seemed pretty rare that Flacco was hitting guys in stride, having shifty small guys is all well n good but joe seems to struggle with his accuracy
so many of his completions seem to be to stationary guys sitting down in the sweet spot or him throwing to a spot and guys making a play, it seems rare that he hits somebody in stride and they pick up yac unless it's a dump off to back - so many throws seem to be behind guys, or at their toes - they're flat out just making the catch let alone making a play after the catch
we have to acknowledge what our QBs strengths and weaknesses are - Carolina recognised Newton had problems with his accuracy and zinging balls over receivers heads so they went out and got 6'5 receivers and let 5'9 SSR walk - seemed to work out pretty well for them
i wish we'd just give Joe some big strong guys he can just throw it up to
remember so many of boldins big catches on our sb run were just 50/50 balls and he was just going up and making the play and beating defenders, it wasn't so much that they were super well placed throws, even torreys couple of big TDs against Denver - just put it up and let our guy make a play
it doesn't surprise me that Moore looks to have bad hands with Joe throwing behind you or at your knees while you're running into traffic
Coaching
we needed to just be smart and make some adjustments, which we didn't and it came back to bite us
were not in the top tier, when we were in scraps with the redskins, raiders, jets, Giants a few minor adjustments could have changed those results
got hurst getting gobbled up all day against the raiders, get another man in there to help
just basic stuff, do what you need to, to get a w and move on
that 4 game stretch and the coaching was the season right there
have to wonder if guys like kindle and Cody were Ozzies guys and after they flamed harbaugh got more power and were riding that wave now

Ozzie flat out told us Elam was the BPA. So this is not a reach.
Brown and Maxx were misses not reaches. They traded up to get these guys meaning they had a significantly higher grade on them than where they were in the draft (I believe they said they had a top 40 grade on Williams and the Steelers confirmed we sniped them meaning that they had a high grade on them too).
Frank Clark was never going to be drafted by us due to his character concerns. Golden was a miss by multiple teams not just us. He outplayed his draft spot. Jury is still out on Rollins.
Diggs is an outlier and has been very injury prone.
Neg away bud, reach or no reach we had huge holes and we addressed them with early picks whether we reached or not only the people in that room know, seems to me we definitely drafted on a needs as opposed to bpa basis
pitt also need a TE in that draft why we jumped them to grab Maxx
anyway their 5th round TE was actually on the field making plays
Just seems like trying to plug big holes in the draft and expect rookies to carry a big load immediately is backfiring on the players concerned and the team in general
Just like to see us start getting some tangible returns from the draft
the 2015 class is literally a wash except for BP - Maxx IR, Davis IR, Buck is he even going to be here next year (how did we take Buck over Ajayi??), ZDS meh
going into next season the hope would be we could be building around those guys instead well prob be wondering if we actually need to reinforce those positions in FA or draft again
snyway easy to say in hindsight but our drafting of late is leaving a bad taste in my mouth
id like to see us just go flat out BPA because we just need playmakers on Offense, the secondary, the pass rush, a return man
if players are dropping to us and head and shoulders above others on the board at the time but not necessarily filling a need I don't have a problem with grabbing them

Going into the 2017 Season should they focus on building an elite offense around Joe or build a great D and run the ball?
We seem to be a bit away from building a great Offense- I think we should go back to our roots and build a power run game - grab some linemen and WR in FA and the draft and let them compete for positions.
spend our top 2 picks on rush and CB in the draft and add some pieces also in FA add that unit is close to being elite - when healthy
54 minutes ago, Grapple Raven said:I've read articles that have a wide variance of speculation on his involvement, but I've often wondered how much actual influence Harbs has in the overall draft process?
This makes a huge difference- if these are Ozzies guys and Harbs is doing the best he can or if they're Harbs guys
Need to stop reaching to fill needs in early rounds, that's what seems to be killing us - Elam, Maxx, Brown,
Jusr go straight up BPA even if it's at a stacked position first 3 rounds
we need to just be taking the best player available and making it work
we should be trying to fill holes before we get to the draft - then we can just go bpa - maybe look at addressing needs in later rounds and then just let those guys compete for the job, with the guys we've already brought in
i look at somebody like Jesse James for Pitt, did a pretty good job for them on the weekend 5th round pick same year we take Maxx in 2nd
really didn't feel Maxx was bpa, thought we reached to fill a need
could we have just taken bpa on our board at that point who knows we had their - guys like Marcus golden, frank Clark, quinton Rollins,
we just need to be taking whoever we feel is the most talented guy when we pick or if we really think somebody is extra special regardless of need or not - go up and get him
then come rounds 4 onwards guy grabs at areas of need who can compete for starting jobs
we added young, judon, Lewis, Boyle was a 5th rounder year before
the year we took breshad - Stefon Diggs goes in the 4th
BP may have been our BPA at that point but maybe we end up with somebody else who doesn't fill a need but is a difference maker
we just need difference makers, regardless of position or need
we need to start nailing our first 3 picks

Which in turn had the team abandon the run way too quickly. The team needs to go out and find weapons on offense. This is an issue every year. You can almost name every team in the NFL with a bigger threat than what the team currently has.
On defense... The system has to be changed. I've been preaching all along that Jimmy Smith is the key to the defense. A defense should not drop from #1 to #27 because of one player. Tavon Young was a rookie an the team's 2nd best corner. Nothing against him but he will most likely never be a #1 corner in the NFL because of his height. He got torched by Odell and Bryant when Jimmy was out. He is solid and lines up well against other receivers but his height will most likely be an issue for a long time. The team also needs younger pass rushers. And for a team that was bragging about its interior pass rush early in the season it quickly disappeared.
He's a rookie, it's been an awesome first year, we need to to get another starting calibre corner and we will have a top tier group when healthy
Can't believe we're sitting here saying we need another corner again, wake the hell up front office/ Harbs - shareece, powers, Arrington aren't the answers
3 hours ago, JoeyFlex5 said:lack of pass rush doesnt make jimmy smith look bad very often. matter of fact, jimmys presence alone is the reason our pass rush was hitting home at a decent rate most of the year, qbs arent even bothering to look jimmys way, meanwhile jimmy is so well trusted that the coverage is bracketed elsewhere, so qbs are looking to throw into the most cluttered part of the field and need to wait and be extra careful to allow a throwing lane to develop.
the problem is, always has been and always will be, that our defense is built around jimmy. when he goes down our defense collapses. our safeties are playing the run more, we are bracketing coverage and disguising zone drops, we are press covering, we are blitzing, were doing it all and were doing it well. without that advantage of forcing a qb to basically ignore one receiver and then having to throw into a densely covered half of the field, our weaknesses get exposed. suddenly tavon young isnt as much of a stud because hes single covering, jerraud powers and shareece wright go from solid depth to absolutely horrid because the defense is spread out more, weddle isnt getting his hands on balls because hes covering rather than roaming, we cant tackle short of the sticks because we have to play so passively.
jimmy smith is so crucial to this defense, i dont think people quite understand it. its no coincidence that our run defense and pass rush fell off a cliff when he went down, he gives that much freedom to the other 10 players. getting a player of jimmys caliber not only would give us a secondary that forces a qb to make tight-window throws on every passing down, but it also would allow us to continue playing at a high level when jimmy goes down. our defense is stellar when we have a shutdown cb, horrible when we dont have one, we gotta do everything in our power to make sure we always have at least one out there.
Nice post
Time to consolidate and trim this roster and I bet Harbaugh will be leading the charge.
We don't need a million tight ends.
Gilmore can't stay healthy and Don't trust Waller - if he'd actually laid out for a catch and shown strong hands , which is what we need from our TE - we may be looking at a live game this weekend - go into the season with Pitta, Maxx, Boyle - obviously Waller is cheap n will still be here
we have a million RBs but we don't have a scat back, or a returner - we need somebody lively like a sproles or woodhead to add to the group - taliferro and Buck can go - add somebody shifty that gives us another dimension
powers, Arrington, wright, Lewis, Elam, piss them all off and get some young blood in here - I'd rather have young kids getting burnt and learning and developing than paying retreads a couple mil each to get burnt who will be done in a season or 2
all we heard all preseason was powers has the most interceptions he's lighting it up, shows how bad our Offense was going into the season, come game time - been gash all year
stop picking up other people's scraps, they're letting them go for a reason!!
We let Jeremy butler go, victor ochi - young guys who may have gotten a look and for what - so we could save a spot for Gilmore, Aiken, Lewis, Buck Allen
get aggressive, get young, get nasty and get back to being a bad guy team we look forward to watching, instead of waiting for the inevitable let downs we've witnessed over the last 4 years
I can't believe we're sitting here discussing the same problems and areas of need as last season, plus now we need to bolster the oline.
there has to be some accountability as to why those areas haven't been addressed
I think harbs gets one more season but for the love of god address the areas of need
if he wants to bring in his buddy's or keep pees and Marty around so be it - he's decisions will either lead to our revival or his dismissal next year
going to be an interesting off season

We've got both of their replacements in house or we can load up in the draft
much rather spend the money on people to throw to or people who stop throws
let them both walk, shore up the secondary and get a receiver to replace Steve
25 minutes ago, trevorsteadman said:Yeah because you can install a new offensive system in 2 weeks...
Preseason - fired him after last season I meant
Steve s the biggest troll ever - should be obvious by now, not sure why people even bother with a response
We should have fired trestman during the break and come in from the get go with a new system
Thought we bent and didn't break too much, held up pretty well when the Offense wasn't giving the Eagles the ball at the 8 yard line.
Also wonder if there was a little bit of self preservation going on - save your self for the next couple of games - might even be coming from above.
Jimmy stuffs up his ankle - might be done for the year saving a TD on the 1 or whatever - in a game we didn't truly have to have.
Play smart guys, don't get blown up trying to save a yard here or there, unless the game is truly on the line.
End of the day we won and we live to fight another day
17 hours ago, OUravensfan said:Yea you're right, if Joe waits a second more he has an easy TD. Forcing it to Steve, at least that won't happen next season for better or worse.
Actually looking forward to our Offense without Steve. Think we force it his way too much
Not sure why we're taking 50/50 deep shots to Steve Smith or even Mike Wallace.
The only person that has shown the ability to reel these in or break them up if they're not in a position to make the catch is Breshad.
Give that kid a chance to make some plays, he's reeled in some nice catches and when not in position he's physical enough to make sure it's not an interception
i think we're foxing - all season long - wait for the breakout - SB run coming up
You almost have to wake up on the wrong the side of bed every morning this week. Pissed off at the way we played Monday night and carry that into Sunday. Lay it all out there against the Eagles. You can’t be afraid about it. You can’t be afraid to make the play. MAKE THE PLAY! That’s my mindset, and that’s what I look for from my teammates and coaches.
Interesting that's he's saying he's looking for a certain mindset from the coaches, not just calling out his teammates but coaches too

Do you think Ozzie has lost the ability to select talent or maybe just maybe we have coaches in place that struggle in developing players/talent
Now that I think of it, I don't think Ozzies far behind - Ozzies fine - wed have to burn through a few coaches before oz is on the hot seat.
are these Ozzies players or Johns though
its all guessing without knowing the inner workings in relation to personnel decisions
Think Harbs is sitting on the fence - pretty similar boat to Trestman last year. I think Ozzie might not be far behind - I imagine Steve is giving the whole situation some thought.
What progression have we shown in the 4 years since the Super Bowl?
looking at the end product we have certainly regressed from 14 and possibly regressed from 13
If we finish any worse than 9-7, where's the progression - what do we have to show for 4 years of football - what players or bright spots have we developed in the last 4 years, even 5
On Offense can we legitimately point to any player and say - yep that guy - some might say Dixon but he's literally played a handful of games, our SB MVP QB looks a mess, we have no run game, we literally have no identity on Offense - in 4 years we've gone backwards, we haven't developed any receivers, We keep picking RB but we're playing a rookie and a free agent at present, we have a million tight ends but were getting little production from the position, offensive line isn't really producing - were consistently heavily penalised
On defense we have a few more guys we can look at and say at least we've got him n him but nobody that's going to take over a game or even going to make a probowl this season I dare say, we are constantly one injury away from being mediocre to poor - we lost to the Jets this year because Suggs missed, we can't stop any top tier offenses without Jimmy - in 5 years we've maybe added young n judon to help with the secondary and pass rush - who else can we point to - we have nothing coming in at safety, were still playing McClellan
What do we truly have to show for 4 years of football since all our legends left - not much
is that a Front Office problem or a Coaching problem or both
On 17 December 2016 at 7:07 AM, RaineV1 said:The stats look good on paper, but the defense has had many times when it could shine, but fell through. For instance when the Cowboys converted despite needing thirty yards for a first down. Or the time they gave up over two hundred yards receiving to OBJ. Or the time they made Fitzpatrick look good. It's not a clutch defense by any stretch of the imagination. Or even a consistently good one.
Totally forgot the Jets game, think that was a game Suggs missed.
Were sitting here saying - if the defense is 100% healthy it's good - when is anybody ever 100% healthy in the NFL - never - always going to be guys out
6 hours ago, RavensFanMania said:I agree there have been some mistakes made from the front office, but no one is perfect. Last year there is no question we had depth issues all over the defense. This year we are pretty deep all over the defense, but still can't afford to have Jimmy Smith, Suggs or Weddle go down. No team can afford to have there stars go down without a little drop in performance.
We've done pretty well with our depth and this past years draft along with the 2014 draft have gone a long way towards improving the defense. The 2014 draft got to 1st round type players (counting Jerniagan as a 1st rounder) Both are playing at a pro bowl level. The 2016 draft has brought a future top notch left tackle into the family along with Tavon Young, who is currently the best cb from the draft class, Pierce and Judon. Let's not forget Dixon, who I believe has the ability to be a very good RB in this league and he is starting to show his worth. We haven't seen anything from Kaufusi yet but I liked him coming out of college and let's hope KC has a better year two. In 2015 we drafted Perriman who is starting to do pretty well and Maxx is on IR. I believe no the of them have breakout seasons in 2017. Perriman has already showed us he has the ability to be a number 1 receiver with the type of catches he makes, we just need some consistency. Hopefully having a full offseason and finally a training camp will help.
Our problem is we don't have a little drop off, we drop off a cliff if our stars go out
Jimmy, Suggs even losing Stanley
I think we all agree the NFL is a passing league now, not too many sides are just mauling u with the run except Dallas
why the hell do we keep drafting defensive lineman, running backs and linebackers when the most important positions are probably wide receiver, cornerbacks and pass rushers
yet Ozzie & Biscotti keep saying u can never have enough pass rushers or CB
FO needs to catch up with the new leading franchises, this draft has helped - I think we'll be forced to grab pass rushers and corners just because we'll have to in this coming draft - it's become like Devin Hester letting punt after punt after punt go - it can't be ignored any longer - we need more corner depth and more pass rush
Feels forced though, not planned bit like the whole Devin Hester situation - oh Crap we don't actually have a return man (cornerback depth), grab Hester was great once (resign Jimmys buddy, keep everybody happy) ummm he won't field the ball, hope he stops that (he sucks, jimmy keeps getting hurt) he still won't field it (still sucks, oh he's out again) can't believe he didn't field that (oh crap he's out for the rest of the season)
a lot of holes exposed in this game
Offensive schemes, secondary depth, Hester is probably the smallest and easiest fixed

yeah cool bud, don't forget to include the game film of Flacco throwing behind guys or at their toes or just flat out not even close - should be a bit of that floating around too
