I get all of that and I doubt blame you for thinking about how to fix injuries. But again it comes down to us a fans being sensitive to injuries.

When your livelihood is on the line, in terms of I've been playing football my entire life and now I have a shot to make it....you're not gonna go hard every chance you get? Guys are fighting for jobs and to make an impression, so even in thud periods guys are going hard. From what I've seen Harbs rarely has live periods, but you can't take physicality out of the game. Cuz when you do then guys are getting hurt in preseason and early season, now we wanna talk about camp cream puff again.

It's just hard for me to blame Harbs when guys like Suggs is taking the conditioning test behind his back. When former HCs who have coached under Harbs and praise him. You have an owner who paid millions on a west coast trip to get an competitive edge and isn't afraid to voice his displeasure. The team brought in new strength and conditioning programs because they are aware of injures. I gotta believe if Harbs was the issue, Mr. B would have been all over it by now.

agree its not something you can just click your fingers and say we're not doing this anymore because everything has flow on effects, just saying if things continue again for another season as they have been, If the biggest thing holding back our team is injuries, not talent, not coaching, not scheme  - 2 years in a row, if it happens a 3rd time then something has to change and im sure those within the organization would totally agree - as my initial reply to the original post - which called for harbaugh to stop what he was doing now - i basically said i cant agree or disagree with this comment 100% but yes it may be something we have to look at in greater detail - greater detail than has occurred up until now

but hopefully we dont have a repeat and this was simply a bad run - then this entire conversation is a moot point

  2. Agreed - optimistic, we have so many balls in the air, so many pieces coming back from injury, free agents, rookies - could be a bumpy ride. Start of the season looks soft but we could easily go 1 - 3 - drop games away and against the raiders - they're going to be licking their lips to get after our line.

you have to look at how guys are getting hurt. Perriman was hurt last year basically diving for a pass in 1on1 passing drills. No contact with anyone but the ground and this year in OTAs. How do you avoid that?

Jimmy got a calf injury in a extremely non physical practice...how do you avoid it? BTW calf injuries are common when recovering from foot injuries.

BK broke his ankle in a non live period. It was a simple blocking drill with young guys competing. He fell and someone tripped falling on his ankle. Do we just stop practicing at a high level?

Pitta got hurt allowing a rookie to get under his skin. That's on Pitta.

Flacco, Suggs, Doom, SSS, Will Davis and Taliaferro were all in game injuries.

There are veterans who praise Harbs practice schedule and even gives high recommendations to other FA thinking about coming here. Harbs is doing his best to keep guys healthy by giving them a day or two off. Right now people are just sensitive to injuries because of how they have negatively impacted the team the last couple years. But if Harbs practices were notoriously hard there would have been talk about it from either out spoken vets or media guys imo.

obviously you have to practice at a high level, would be absurd to think that you never would, but maybe the intensity and percentage of time spent at full intensity needs to be looked at - is bronson tired from what he's done earlier in that session or the previous day or week - that leads him to go down,  the same could apply to other injuries, is it a culmination effect - particularly with older guys too and then with non contact, is the body tired from other aspects - think we need to look at the injuries in a larger context, as opposed to the specific injury, i know we've brought a strength and rehab or something coach in specifically for this

the vets are ok and havent called it out but young guys are coming through our system and getting wiped out before they even start, bk, urban, klm, now stanleys dinged up, we keep saying these are freak injuries but if it keeps happening its not freak - its constant

this is just all me thinking out aloud and my opinion, people get paid bulk coin and you have the best in the business involved with training camp, health and nutrition, strength and conditioning etc but our constant injury list cant keep being ignored, see where we're at come the end of season, if we go through another season with same stuff - somethings got to change because we're not going to compete for anything except the top pick when half our side is on IR

harbs needs to stop what he is doing..NOW! I have never seen a team go into a traning session with such consistant injuries ever IN my life.

What next '' Oh yes, stanley, stanley might be out for the year, but hey you know what ? we got a bunch of hungry guys who we feel really good about''

Not going to disagree or agree completely but if the trend continues - surely we need to sit down and look at what we're doing. Remember reading that Jacksonville was basically doing walk through and classroom stuff with their rookies.

One area I think specifically may warrant attention is the trenches - should we be bringing those guys along gently, in cotton wool so to speak?obviously a lot of guys come in and we think he needs to get stronger a year or 2 in an NFL weight room would be good. In the meantime those guys are going up against NFL strong vets - I think of kaufusi, urban, klm

Obviously everybody needs to learn but i think - make or break - you're not going to make a career in your first training camp but you sure as hell can break one

Not going to win a SB in August either but we can start handicapping ourselves with injuries, it's a long season - i personally wake up every morning and check the ap / site to see if anybody has been injured and without fail - kaufusi popped up, now Stanley. I'd happily hear them say we are dialling down practice and training camp and fine go into the pre season not battle hardened but at least we do not have any significant injuries to start with - again not winning the season in August or even September

  5. I understand the rules have changed and what was allowed previously draws flags but when I think of dominant teams last few years, I think of Seattle and then look at the Denver sb winning side.

I think everybody quick to say the game changed but then I look at those 2 sides - won 2 of the last 3, should of been 3

am I wrong in labelling or thinking of those sides as hard hitting, smash mouth teams?

  6. been watching our superbowl run, which is leading me to question the makeup of our roster and whether we will be much better this season than last season - due to one primary factor - game changers and talent

we obviously feel like we've got a lot of depth, given our injury history  we're scared that we need to be 3 deep at every position.

but is it just leading to a team of middling players across the depth chart, without game winners, across our top tier - hope this isnt going to be a trend and we can stay healthy and who knows, maybe package up some of our depth and get game changing talent on the field

well their wiser and will get everyone lined up,i just wish we had intimidators like BERNIE POLLARD,when your thinking of getting your cleats knocked off, your not thinking about catching the ball!!

was just watching our superbowl winning run again - pollards hit on ridley seals the new england game for us.

i hope we get back to having that thumper in the backfield, hitting hard and just bullying the other team, thats ravens football for me too - pollards hit on ridley exemplified that - meet him in the hole and just hit harder than they do, yes sometimes we get flagged but sometimes good things come of it too, like fumbles, maybe this is another reason we aren't getting as many interceptions - guys have no hesitation laying out for catches or running with our db's or defense anymore. i dont mind giving up a 15 yarder early on if it sets the tone and receivers are going to be hearing footsteps, or pulling up short after we've laid the wood a few times

i look at the best secondaries and safeties and i think kam bam bam and tj ward - obviously there is still a place for hard hitting play - i hope we can find that balance between smart play and coverage and aggression and hard hits and instilling that fear in the opposition

i feel, just looking at how we are lining up for this season with webb in the secondary - we are going away from ravens football, almost playing scared, lining up scared because we havent had the talent we needed to play ravens football and we got burnt, so we're just going to play it safe - hopefully brooks and elam can develop because we obviously drafted them with that hard hitting ravens football blueprint in mind

get back to being that bully, hard hitting, smart football - that carried us to our last superbowl

Kj........Just want to acknowledge your early posting makes you a strong candidate for Forum Rookie of the Year honors.  Our best evaluators are keeping a close eye upon you.  No, not Newsome and DeCosta, but with luck Bisciotti may be appearing.  Additionally, with a down 2016 class... Forum Poster of the Year is not outside your realm.

Kj, I'm a member of the "Bill Parcells" school of evaluation.  I don't believe the W's and L's lie.  I don't believe they deceive and I don't believe they misrepresent.  In Bill Parcell's words, "You are what your record says you are".  Now you can search around in those games for "stats" that support your argument, but NFL Football is very much a Bottom Line endeavor. The Cheatriots are a great example. They scored a lot of points and let in a lot of yards late. But the yards given up in garbage time don't amount to much.  The same is almost always true of other statistics.

If I were going to give advice about analyzing the second half of our past season. I would start by asking who we played in weeks 9-12. I'd note Big Has Ben had a terrible game in week 15 and a rookie beat us in week 16.  Then I'd look at weeks 13 and 14. I'd think that would dispel any notion we are going to be a top Defense this year, but dreams die hard.

cheers danny, dont mind chatting about my team and hope i can add something to the conversation. im from australia and didnt really grow up with nfl, started casually watching about 10 years ago, when i started really watching and following - this big old beast in purple and black, just the way they played - just became my team, its only the last few years im really following the drafts and tc and the behind the scenes work ( and learning the intricacies of the game - gaps, techs, blitzes, defenses, routes, sets - bit of reading there)  - things might not be perfect at the moment but its a good organization to support.

in regards to last season could keep going back and looking at games and footage, stats but maybe we are best served to just put that in the rear vision mirror and move forward, not long to go now .given that the hype at the start of last season was possible SB after we added a few pieces. that said, im quitely optimistic joe and the offense carries the team to a nice record

i really like our preseason match ups to see what the secondary looks like - couldnt have asked for much better opponents,  - hopefully brees, stafford and luck take some shoots at us and we see where we're at

LOL, I already ripped into Danny D once for pulling points allowed off of ESPN and thinking it tells the whole story (or any story), but I guess I have to point this out again.

For the Seattle game (which I agree was a horrendous defensive performance), there were two turnovers we made in our own territory, including a fumble inside our own red zone. Its going to be really difficult for a defense to not give up TDs when a team only has to go 14 yards in order to score one.

For the KC game, we had a pick six and a fumble six, of which the defense could do nothing about because they weren't on the field. They also scored a 3rd TD when they started at our 24 yard line after a failed fake punt.

I'd strongly encourage anybody to go back and look at the last five games of the season. If you take into accounts points allowed that the defense had nothing to do with (mostly from turnovers), you're looking at a defense that was averaging around 20 ppg allowed, and that's against four playoff teams.

Yes, I'd say thats good. Its kind of impossible to think its not.

Yes, going back and looking at the box score, recap and I think we were on to clausen - our offense was giving up points

going to be positive and roll with it, here's hoping the d brings it this season - from the get go

if all our weapons on offense click and we can start games fast not stuck in the mud, play with leads

who knows, we might have a half decent season

Played a big role in having the #1 pass defense and #2 overall defense in the final several weeks of this past season.

i take this with a HUGE pinch of salt - how did we have a good defense in the final few weeks?

when the seahawks and chiefs put 30+ on us, kept steelers in check and bengals scored 24, if thats good what does bad look like?

Wright turned into a good player as the season progresses, Webb DID play Safety last season.

semantics bud, you get my point - webb started out at corner, how much time did he actually spend at safety, yes wright grew better wont argue that

our secondary is still pieced together on the fly - lets see everybody together for the season - in their respective positions, with frazier coaching, we hopefully cant be any worse than last season, inconsistency seems to be the theme in the secondary - but given the nature of who's out there and where they / we are coming from, wouldnt expect much else

I'd hardly call the Secondary and LB's "patchwork" we're probably working with the best Secondary we've had since the Super Bowl(maybe even better), and the LB competition looks very promising. Things are looking up again. (:

our starting FS, wasn't on the team last year, along with our presumed starting nickel - powers, our starting SS wasn't a safety last year, wright, davis been picked up off the heap, throw in some kids - there is no continuity what so ever - i call that patchwork.

Granted it probably is the most talent we've had since the superbowl but I need to see it work together as a UNIT. I can see webb and jimmy getting picked on, i know jimmys coming back from more procedures but him getting burnt by rookies and aiken is doing nothing to reassure me, aj green probably sitting at home licking his lips

just having a core unit intact for the majority of games would be a good start, whether that unit would worry opposing offenses is another story

looking for positive news from both units throughout camp, not hearing it - i dont give a flying rats about tucker bombing 70 yarders in tc - what does the secondary do, whos getting to the qb??

honeslty i just dont think we should expect too much this year, but instead look ahead to 2017 where the young guys become more experienced

if everybody on the offensive side is healthy and contributes, i expect big things, more than i've ever seen from a ravens offense - personally expecting the offense to carry us this season

not as optimistic for our patchwork secondary and LB's

  14. given that suggs and dumervil are both on PUP, suggs coming off serious injury and both on the wrong side of thirty - are we still not concerned with our pass rush? we supposedly addressed our pass rush in the draft but our 2nd pick looks to be lining up inside, not hearing much about judon or ochi - worse case scenario - suggs n dumervil arent productive - where does the pressure come from. if we dont get pressure - our secondary is getting picked apart again we seem to have our eggs in 2 baskets - old injured players or young unproven players - nothing in between

  15. With the Ravens, though, Hill has been building some trust and says he’s dramatically changed his lifestyle. Rather than frequenting nightclubs, he’s now bowling and spending quiet nights at home with his daughter.

“I spend a lot of time with my daughter,” Hill said. “I’m at the training facility. I ain’t going anywhere.”

Hill said he greatly appreciates Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome for giving him a chance after the Giants gave up on him.

“Yeah, it’s a good relationship with the Ravens,” Hill said. “Ozzie had a lot of faith in me, and I had a lot of faith in him. That’s my best friend right now. To have me come here and help me with my life, it means a lot.”

Teammates and coaches have praised Hill for how he fit in with others in the Ravens’ locker room. With the exception of the child support issue that predated his employment with the Ravens, Hill hasn’t gotten into trouble.

“Will Hill, he has a lot of talent,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said during a season-ending news conference. “It’s something that we always knew. He also has a great love for the game. Having the offseason, having the OTAs and the minicamp and the training camp is only going to really help him tremendously, as far as being a really good safety for us.

“We put it on his plate a little bit. We’re challenging him for the next three or four months. ‘Are you going to come back a better player than you were when you left here in January, and is that slate going to be clean?’ We fully expect it to be. He just had a baby. He’s doing great with his family, and we fully expect him to do a great job with that, and we’re going to try to help him any way we can with that.”

Hill said he’s in a good place mentally, but is impatient for the season to start.

“I’m great,” Hill said. “This is the bad part right now, just waiting.”

Maybe getting out of NY - settling down, having some support from the team - about to see continued good things. Repay that faith when its time to talk $$
