Well that's convenient. Too bad we are not in the playoffs, we could put those healthy bodies to good use.
No Jimmy Smith, no playoffs, no playoff wins. They never came out and said it but his injury was season ending.
Ravens were extremely lucky with injuries this year but still did not help them.
I think extremely lucky is a stretch.
-our best wr was out/hampered a few games
-We lost our most important (Jimmy) for multiple games at the most important point in the year
- Sizzle basically had a season ending injury. played through it but wasn't sizzle
-Our left tackle was out multiple games which killed us
- The captain of our defense was out multiple games-mosely
- Gilmore basically didn't play all year.
-Watson season ending injury
- Dixon hurt in preseason and couldn't play til later in the year
- Alex Lewis High ankle sprain
-Doom torn achillies in the offseason
-Kufasi out for the year
And that's just off the top of my head. That does not look extremely lucky to me
Wow that's pretty darn good. Only thing I can add was Yanda missed a few games and when added to Lewis and Stanley led to the 4 game losing streak in October which was too much to overcome,
he is average at best he got flacco hurried on numerous occasions he is no Ogden he is a consistent Oher and we all know how that turned out he is solid but I wish we would have gotten hargraves CB at 6 but I don't see stanley being a franchise LT hope we finally draft a good CB this year with 1st round pick
ehh need pass rusher or upgrade our offense line more.. with better pass rushers our cb won't need cover longer then they need too
True, it seemed like the defense line played tired the second half of the year. Jerrigan had 3 sacks after 3 games and then 2 the rest of the year.

Its his Rookie season. Give the guy a break. And how can you say hes not an Ogden at this stage of his career when Ogden didn't even play LT till his 2nd year.
ogden also didn't give up a sack until his second year an that was 1 all of his second season but only gave up 26 for his hole career
Would of been less if Kyle Boller wasn't the quarterback for his last few years.

Glad Ozzie make the picks and not you!
so your happy with the bums that he picks I'm not can't wait for ozzie to be fired
You'll have to wait until he retires, he's a lifer.
we had no choice but to draft stanley and i liked the pick and believe he will be around for a long time. needs to improve on his run blocking and gain some more upper body strength. hope we can retain wagner but more depth is needed at LT and center must be addressed. zuttah wasnt bad but he was overpowered several times. we need to draft or sign a young matt birk
Zuttah was bad, very bad. Missed blocks, penalties, hitting a player out of bounds, and not calling blocking schemes. Matt Birk used to call the plays to the line and change them if he saw something, he was the leader. We need a Big center like the Jets have or like one of the Pounceys. I'd like us to get a center who will be around more than 4 years.
I heard that CSN was dropping coverage of the Ravens to concentrate on the Redskins. If true, that's a shame. As an out of town fan, I enjoy watching the pre and post game programs as well as the Harbaugh Monday press briefing. Also, Touchdown Baltimore. A shout out to Preston who always tells the truth about the state of the Ravens. Hope all of these programs come back.
If that's true it sucks. I always liked watching the after game show.
I'm starting to believe our billionaire owner is losing interest in owning this team. In one of the biggest games (Steelers) of the year for his team, he decides to stay home. I know it was Christmas, but it just seems a little odd. I could never imagine Jerry Jones or Bob Kraft missing a game of that magnitude. And I know Art Modell would never miss a divisional game that could possibly decide the division champs, not to mention a game against your arch rivals.
I just don't think Steve B cares as much, as we the fans, think he does.
I think this team is run totally by John and the owner has put a lot of trust and faith in him. That is why, I believe, John is not that concerned about his decisions or what the fan base thinks. I believe John's relationship with Steve is closer then anyone elses in the Ravens organization. Even closer then Steve's relationship with Ozzie. If push comes too shove, Ozzie will go before John will.
Even if things go south in 2017, I think John will still be the head coach of the Ravens, but the surprise, to a lot of us, will be the firing of the entire front office.
John is "a do gooder" and he and Steve have a lot in common. For better or worse they both see life the same way.
When watching that joint news conference on Tuesday, watch how uncomfortable Ozzy looks sitting there while John is in a comfort zone knowing that his boss is his "bff". He and Steve are of the same mindset. John will have no problems throwing people under the bus while Ozzie is going to be very calculated with his words. Ozzie totally understands the situation that he is in.
Of course this is just all my opinion, and that's all it is, an opinion.I've always thought Harbaugh was a 'corporate' guy. He has never impressed me as a solid coach on the field. His focus is on relationships with some coaches and the owner. There's a reason Belichek and Andy Reed win. Anybody ever see the program showing Belichek's last years in Cleveland? Very impressive to see him run meetings with his coaches back in the day. Some significant players mailed in the Cincy game....Flacco, Suggs, Dumerville, Williams, all the DB's. Not a good sign for the coaches.
I watched that 30 for 30 show about a dozen times. In 1995 the Browns players quit playing and even the players admitted it. Harbaugh has one season to get it right. He has an Easy schedule next year. The only hard game I saw was playing a road game against Green Bay. Good Luck to Ozzie and get great Draft picks in the first 3 rounds and stop Worrying about the 4th round, and Marty run the Heck out of theball and I don't want to see Flacco throw over 40 times the whole year.
believe me flacco is only an average quarterback, you need to reduce his salary in order to bye other players. no one will pay him 20 mill a year. hes not worth it.when he won the superbowl he had real good players around him every year hes terrible with interceptions especially in the red zone terrible out of the pocket. wake up and smell the coffee.
They already renegotiated his contract, and you can't get rid of him the Dead Money in 2017 and 2018 would be about 50 million, the first chance the Ravens could get rid of Joe is at the beginning of the 2019 season. The Dead Money will be at a workable level.
I will admit that I used to be a Castillo hater, especially in the year after the SB when we kept running #27 from the shotgun in the oh-so-predictable draw plays.
But if you're being honest, you have to admit that our offensive line has been pretty darn good, considering (a) all the injuries that have plagued them the last two seasons, and (b) the constant need to learn new blocking schemes with each new coordinator. The offensive line has to function as one body, with all five of them on the same page and being able to rely on each other. If a key piece is hurt (Wagner, Stanley, Yanda, Lewis - seriously, 4 out of 5 starters this year!) or if they have to learn a new scheme, their play will suffer!
Think about how great they played the last time we won a SB, where even McKinnie played well because the coaches benched him for several games to rest him up. Joe threw 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions, and nobody even got close to sacking him most of the time. It wasn't that Joe played better, it was the O line.
So I no longer blame Castillo, and don't think he should be fired.Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but since you mentioned the 2012 SB run let's recall Juan Castillo was not apart of that he was Eagles DC
then.
*he became the Run game coordinator in 2013 and it was widely reported he was running the show as oline coach from behind the scenes.
Regardless as the Run game coordinator the team regressed significantly in Rushing in 2013.
2014 - was all kubiak
2015-2016. Back to back abysmal rushing attacks ( some could be attributed to play calling )
I'll give him credit for developing Wagner and having a hand in KO's.
*
I get what you're saying, but don't you think the bad performance in 2013 could also have been at least partly due to new pieces in the line (Birk, McKinnie, Oher all left), a basically new OC (Caldwell) and - the fact people always miss - Ray Rice having a pretty bad season? If you blame Castillo instead, and then give Kubiak all the credit in 2014, that seems kind of unfair.
Seems more fair to say that the zone run scheme takes a while to get good at, and in Kubiak's year it fell into place, and then Trestman basically abandoned it so the O line and Castillo had to start over. And now they'll start over again with Mornhinweg :/
Oher was still their, and Mckinney got traded mid season to Miami. Gradkowski was very bad and didn't even know when to hike the ball, Yanda had to slap him on his arm to let him know. Also, KO missed half a season with a bad back and AQ Shipley was the LG. TE was very bad with Dallas Clark and Ed Dickson. Rice and Pierce had a combined 3 yard carry average. I agree Kubiak shouldn't get all the credit, However West and Dixion had over a 4 yard carry average so I don't think their is any starting over it is just running the ball 60% of the time and Keeping Flacco under 35 passes. Joe was 3 wins and 0 losses when throwing under 35 times last year, Mornhingweg has one year to get it right or all Coaches are gone
Cap Specialist? They need to stop giving long deals. Rice, Ngata, Webb, Smith, Pitta and Flacco's Deals have all been Disasters. They need to get younger and cheaper.
Honestly, I'd like to see us draft DeShone Kizer. He may fall because he lacks experience (not even two full seasons as NDs starter). If he does, we should take him, groom him. I think he's going to be a great QB. He has all of the tangibles; but he has a very competitive spirit, and he's tough.
Agreed! We need to start planning for life after Flacco anyway...
We still have 2 more years to go. After the 2018 season would be the 1st year to try, if they tried earlier it would be too much Dead Money.
There is only one person who can save Harbaugh, Ozzie. He Better have a Great Draft and be Top Heavy in Talent. Rounds 1 thru 3 better be Home runs.
One thing I have to ask, is why on earth do people, including our fans, compare Flacco and Matt Ryan??? Matt Ryan was chosen 3rd OVERALL people? Big difference
Because they were in the same draft 2008 . Ryan has had Pro Bowl receivers and Hall of Fame Tight Ends. Flacco had Bolden, Rice, Torrey Smith and Pitta in 2012, then they all disintegrated. I think Ryan has 1 Playoff victory to Flaccos 10 playoff victories. Ryan had an Awful 2014 when he didn't have a good offensive line. Now he has a Very Good Offensive Coordinator in Kyle Shanahan, who we could of had. He has Great Receivers again. We need to get creative. We do flashy things in the first half get 10 Points than shut down the Offense and hope the Defense can hold.
I have to laugh. Coachspeak between now and when the season starts is just intolerable.
Don't tell me about coaching changes when you kept the guy who made the worst call in the history of the Ravens. You're not serious. No, seriously, they are not serious about that. This guy ran less than Trestman and threw more short passes which I didn't think was humanly possible.
Better O-line. You can't put out turnstiles like DuCasse and Zuttah and have defenses take you serious. Talent evaluation on the front line is pathetic but don't get me started on Castillo.
Healthier knee better chemistry? First I will buy the knee thing as it was obvious he was moving better. So let's see his butt out there with Perriman, Wallace, Campanaro, etc... During the off-season. That's how you build chemistry. Keep Pitta away, he gets too much of Joe"s attention. Time at practice is too limited with ALL the receivers and when you are up the butt of your TE its hard to build chemistry with anyone else.
Joe needs to study defenses more as his football IQ is poor and I'm being nice. He needs to realize when you make 120 mil. Your job starts earlier than everyone else, it lasts longer than anyone else, it is on off days and the off-season something you need to devote time to constantly. When Flacco says after the season is over he puts football aside for a couple months and about a month before going back he starts throwing again. That is not an acceptable attitude or expected work ethic for a 120 mil. player.
Playmakers. We had playmakers this year. Our RB are very good. 5+ yards averages in most games, we just don't give them the ball. SSS is a playmaker, Wallace was dynamite under Trestman, Perriman didn't have enough targets to develop because Joe checked his #1 reciever and if he wasn't open he just dumped it off. Joe was horrible in the pocket this year, really bad. No awareness, no movement, just really pathetic looking at times when he just folded into a fetal position even when no one was close.
Perriman had targets, but he turned the wrong way or was out of position. Even his touchdown against Cleveland looked awkward. He needs to get In sync with his routes if he wants more catches.
The comparison still applies. Joe is like another Alex Smith.
Alex Smith can't win playoff games, Joe has 10.
2 hours ago, ByTheBay said:2 hours ago, The Mom Gene said:Agreed also... everybody is quick to throw the QB and the OC under the bus, on every team. Go check out some of the other boards. Guys and Gals I see on here that are comparing others to ours aren't really seeing that even coordinators that are being mentioned as potential here are in the very same boat. It's really sad that people cannot see beyond that. Joe's lack of protection, and the ability to get time for the plays to develop is HUGE...
If the OL is the problem then what changes would be made? Stanley stays, Lewis stays, Yanda stays, Wagner could stay. Is Zuttah really the one to blame for all of Joe's issues? I read somewhere he actually graded out pretty well the second half if the season.
No not Zuttah alone but a big chunk of it. Injuries played a big part of it. I saw a play Sunday where Zuttah was blocking nobody and Ducasse had one player and he let him go by and sack Flacco. They were both just standing their with nobody around them. Lewis missed games, Stanley missed games and had 2 bad games after he came back. Yanda missed some games and Wagner missed some games. Jensen, Hurst and Urschel don't seem to be the answer. We need to Draft and get a couple good players and hope the Injuries go down next year. Also, a new Offensive Line Coach would be Great!
We better at least get a new Offensive Line coach. I can't stand watching Zuttah and Vlad Ducasse block its horrible. The running backs can't block either. Need some fresh Ideas, Castillo is Harbaugh's buddy from Philly and he needs to go, we need Change.
Steve Smith leaving will hurt. Not only because of his talent but he's the only one on offense that shows passion! However, I honestly don't think WR is the problem. Our problem was we throw to many short passes under 10 yards! That's the OC fault or our line can't block long enough for the WR's to get down field! I think our route combinations are basic. If Joe is great at throwing the deep ball, why not throw more comeback routes? This pushes the DB's off the WR. This should be Joe's money route because of his big arm and I hardly ever see it! This is all Peyton did in Indy!
Joe used to do "Comeback Routes" with Derrick Mason all the time. Mason's route's were crisp, he should come back as a coach for us.
I don't think Losing should even be talked about. The Patriots have won over 10 games for 13 straight years and have lost 2 first round picks to cheating and they always find players. I'm thinking the Position of the draft isn't the Problem it is "Ozzie not pulling the trigger to move up in the Draft". He likes to move back and get picks which he did last year, but he needs to move up and get an impact player. If he used the 3rd round pick to move up in the first round we would have Ramsey instead of Kaufusi on IR. He also failed to move up in the Draft in 2010 and he missed out on Gronkowski and Dez Bryant .He needs to use a 2nd or 3rd round pick to move up in the 1st round .We need a CB, Center and a Pass Rusher.
Agreed - love having the division games to end the season (often decides who will win the division), but come on, alternate it each year so each team visits the other city at the end of the year.
Whats worse is that Pittsburgh gets to finish the year at Home against Cleveland 4 out of the last 5 years.
Why is it that we always have to finish our season on the road in Cincinnati? All the while, Cincinnati and Pittsburg get there final games at home. Is there a little bit of schedule favoritism going on here or are the NFL schedule makers just that stupid that they don't realize they keep doing the same thing over and over and over.
Ravens always get the Short end of the stick. I'd like to see a Monday Night Game in Baltimore Someday.
I completely disagree that a change at HC is not needed. Harbs lost this team half way thru the 2012 season. They won the SB thanks to Ray, Ed and the gang. Since Ray and Ed's departure the Ravens have only made the playoffs once and nobody seems to remember that we had to mount a 4th Qrt comeback in Cleveland in week 17 that year and we still needed the help of a botched 25 yard field goal by KC vs SD. If the kick was good Pitt moved on to the playoffs but since KC missed we moved on. Look it up if you dont remember. And since then we missed the last 2 playoffs and have a combined losing record.
I do believe a change at DC is more urgent than a change in HC. Our Def has not been good for 4-5 years now. Regardless of what PFF or whomever says our defense was NEVER ranked #1 in the NFL this year. Its easy to pad your stats when you play Buff (OC fired 2 weeks later), Browns x2, Jags, Jets, Redskins, Cincy without AJ Green, Pitt with Big Ben 9 days removed from a meniscal cleanup and a bunch of other putrid offenses. The moment we played a decent team we got manhandled. If ya'll cant see that then you are blind.
Unfortunately nothing will happen with Harbs, Pees and company because we are still living in the past and not looking at the tendencies. This team's arrow is pointing downwards and needs a new injection of life, accountability and passion for winning. I thought this was a league of "what have you done for me LATELY?". Because I know what this team, especially Harbs with his poor clock management and overall clueless attitude, has done lately. Harbs has made way too many piss poor decisions in games and to top it off he couldn't seem prouder of his ineptitude when asked about it in post game pressers.
For these and many more reasons Harbs and Pees are no good for the Ravens moving forward.
I disagree, the won the Superbowl because everyone was healthy at the end of the season, they had a New OC in Jim Caldwell and they moved Osemele to LG. Ray had a Good game against the Colts but that was it.
I would like to see Harbaugh go, but there's not many good candidates that can replace him. He got rid of players that bumped heads with him and it has hurt the team, I think that's why we see players leave us to go play for Pagano or Rex. He never calls out Flacco for the many mistakes he makes but any mistake made by anyone else they get called out for it
It really grinds my gears to hear him defend Flacco every time a reporter asks him about a boneheaded play or decision made by Flacco or what's up with Flacco's mechanics. He always says things like Joe is a great QB, I'm a Joe Flacco fan, Joe will be the first to tell you he needs to play better, Joe this Joe that. But will rip Timmy to shreds for a bad play, or put players like West and Judon in the doghouse for a special teams mistake. He does the same thing with his awful coordinators. IDC what anyone says, the days of a winning culture are far behind us and it's not a coincidence that is dwindled after the SB team was dismantled.
First order of being a Head Coach never bad mouth your Starting Quarterback, too many other people, Fans & Reporters, will do a ton of that.

I don't like Jimmy Smith getting hurt either, but him missing the 2nd half of the Giants game, the jets game, Patriot's game and the 2nd Pittsburgh game showed he is a huge difference maker thanks to Ozzie not drafting a Quality DB in 6 years.
