I see Steve playing the role of more of a third down specialist this year - don't see him still being the #1. Not saying that he's not gonna make a big impact , because he's still gonna be taking these dudes lunch money.I might try a stab at this later, but something to consider when you all are making your depth charts is that Ozzie and Harbaugh hinted at a reduced role for Steve Smith Sr. this season and with the arrival of Maxx Williams and Breshad Perriman, that's probably going to be even more true. Add in the fact that Trestman really seems to value the mismatches of big players and Steve could be in for career lows, or at least far less impactful numbers this season.
lol, I'm diggin the optimism though. Size is always a good thing- something I think we were lacking for a while- and with Waller, brown , and the speedster perriman , AND mad maxx, defenses are going to literally have their hands full. They are not going to know who to cover! I expect a lot of confusion in our opponents this year - it's gonna take a long time for anybody to figure us out. They are going to have to plan for 4 diffrent guys- and that's not even including SSS! This is gonna be fantasy land for joe.Interesting...but how do you feel about Darren Waller?
Didn't I read somewhere recently that Ozzie said they plan on keeping Atleast 4 or maybe even 5 tight ends this year? Probably would be smart - given how trestmans offense relies so heavily on the position means that they will be a little more prone to injury- or they just plan on doing a lot of rotating to keep all of them fresh throughout the year. I think it was brilliant to draft 2 tight ends regardless of pittas situation. Depth is never a bad thing.
that's some good observation , we can definitely do better- and probably already have better. If we are talking about Alfonzo Dennard who was just released by the Patriots...
1. He's 25, not 37. He was a 7th round pick in the 2012 draft.
2. From what I can tell, he wasn't released for cap purposes, as the Pats saved basically $1M that they didn't need.
3. I'm always weary of a team like NE, who lost their two best corners in the offseason already and didn't really add much at that position, releasing a draft pick at a position of weakness while they are still on their rookie deal.
There really isn't a bigger "red flag" than that in terms of my desire to sign a player. It can't be a case of the old "not given an opportunity", because he started 20 games for the Pats.
I think we have at least 3-4 better corners on this roster right now, and I think that's being conservative. No thanks.
who cares, Jamie dukes doesn't got any credibility in my book, he's obviously a hater.Jamie dukes is not to crazy about the ravens picks, he said they didn't make much of a effort to go after any big names.
anybody ? Crickets?Does anybody think we would have selected Nelson agholer over perriman or think he was even on our board?
Don't count out pitta. That's all I'm gonna say.
Does anybody think we would have selected Nelson agholer over perriman or think he was even on our board?
After week one kubiak is really gonna wish he never left.
Curious Do yall think that we would have picked agholer if he was still available over perriman or think he was even on our board?
I cant wait to see the depth chart after camp. Butlers gonna have to fight to make the squad. Dont know much about him but hes definitely going to have compettion regardless with this core
Lol i wonder if ozzie had that espn draft theme song ringing in his head when we jumped the steelers. "Just move on up!!"
clock-blocked - I see what you did there, got a little double meaning goin on I like it.This may be my favorite pick of the draft not only because I like Williams a lot for where we got him, but because it really clock-blocked the Steelers and forced them to reach on a short nickle CB who should have been a day-3 pick. Well done, Oz, well done.
Ozzie always plays it coy, but we all know what happened.
yessirnot sure why anyone is upset about this pick, all i heard over the last month was get Joe weapons, we need someone to replace Torrey's speed....We hit the daily double with a 4.24 40 guy who happens to be 6-2 212.....And the drops, they came early, he finished the season strong, and at his pro day he didn't drop a thing....Every player drafted has pros and cons, i happen to think this guy can be groomed to be a stud....JMO...
I can't believe everybody was complaining about oz not selecting Wrs in the first. Just read that the patriots haven't selected one in the first since 1996!!
Interesting to know that they weren't going to pick Shane Ray- I thought he would be hard to pass up and thought they really favored him. I'm glad though- I don't like the idea of drafting first round players with off the feild concerns- let alone a lingering toe injury.
Well there you go. Everybody wanted Ozzie to go wr in the first so I hope their happy. Plus he's a big bodied gazelle. I really thought for a minute Shane Ray was going to fall right into our lap, but when I saw Denver trade up I knew. The way the board shook out we almost had no choice but to grab a wide receiver. I thought for a second we might go jaleon strong- or trade back into the early 2nd- but I pretty much knew it would be perriman with who was left. I'm happy. Not thrilled about the concentration drops but that is something that can be worked on. The upside is much greater. All in all I was somewhat suprised with the lack of trades and what not but in hindsight it makes sense. Man how sweet would it have been to be in that war room with Ozzie and Eric though?
I'm pretty sure bennet could be obtained with only a 4th, but we"d have to increase his contract by about 2 million a year increasing it to about 7- which is a bit pricey. Not out of the question but not too likely either. We will see. The trestman connection is the main reason I could see it happening- or not happening if he knows something we don't know-since he was in the locker room with the guy.
I've never seen one of those- you got a pic?I'm adding a camouflaged Ray Lewis jersey to my already multiple collection of Ray Lewis jerseys. You can never go wrong with good ole' #52.
We're gonna tear San Fran a new one, not worried about them or Denver. Our biggest competition will be Seattle, and possibly Arizona. But the ravens fear no one.
exactly. If the execution is poor what do you expect? It really is hard to judge any offense based off of how (un)successfully Jay Cutler ran it.
I too wonder if he will really stick to the running game and not get too pass happy. He says he knows we are a run first team- let's see if he sticks to his guns even when the tough gets goin and the running game struggles a bit. It's one thing to say what your gonna do..trestman biggest assest is his ability to call plays that fit his players strength.
where other coaches look for players to fit their scheme , he adjust his scheme to the players he has.
his problems in chicago where the defense that could not stop anyone which forced cutler to do to much which he just could not handle.
we dont have to worry cause even with issues our defense is 1 of the better units in the league and flacco is capable of carrying a big load when we need to.
the only thing that might be an issue with trestman is when he gets away from the run and gets to pass happy.
BTW jerry rice had his record breaking season under trestman.
