God this year sounds like the 2014 draft all over again... When we took Mosley. At the time it didn't seem like a need.... But then after it happened we all thank the lord above the front office picked CJ Mosley. I can see that this year with a running back in the teens. If Dalvin Cook fell to the team or another running back the team liked I can see the boards picking up their pitchforks the night of the draft. Dixon showed promise and West has been decent but the team is clearly not confident in them taking over at least yet when we were 28th in rushing attempts. It will be one of those years I can feel it. A position will be taken that won't be the team's top need and will make everyone cuss Ozzie's name lol. I could also see a highly rated defensive lineman here even after possibly reisigning Brandon Williams lol

im with you...for some reason I just get that feeling that Ozzie will go against our biggest needs and take a RB. The board will go nuts until he rushes for 1000 and scores 10 TDs and everybody calls him a genius. ( i think dixon can be that guy so i would probably go nuts too. ) It doesnt happen unless its fournette or cook though.

On trades, don't we still "eat" the bonus that's been paid?  I thought only salary went over to the receiving team.

Good point , I should've known it wasn't that simple.

we would lose 11 million this year alone on this deal + whatever deshaun watson costs in salary - this is financially as unfeasible as cutting him

Yeah that would be foolish. Should've done my homework before throwing out a crazy hypothetical

I wouldn't do it because I would still want any of the top quarterbacks (Kizer, Allen, Trubisky, Watson) to sit behind Flacco and learn. I think they'd have a lot more success that way.

Also a good point and I agree. However what if one of those top guys is on the board in round 2? Alot more important needs but I'm sure it would cross their mind don't you think?

Agree on both statements. While I think an efficient route runner and chain moving WR along side Perriman sounds better than Wallace and Perriman... It is possible that a significantly improved run game would eliminate the constant 2 high safeties look we got all season long and we could see more of a deep threat Wallace next season?

No doubt- let's hope they figured that out.

Wallace played well, why would we release him?

Not during the second half of the season... He tapered off big time.

Still , a 1000 yard season is a great accomplishment.

Hypothetical question here but let's say we 2nd round tender Orr as expected and which I agree, btw. Let's say a team puts in a bid on him. Do you match the bid and keep him or let him go and get that 2nd round pick?

Tough call but I'd keep Orr. He's only going to get better and I'd be pissed if we whiffed on the pick. Stick with what we know we have.

  5. Hypothetically what if we're offered a first and a 2nd for Flacco?  Not only do we clear all that cap- but we could draft say Deshaun Watson along with  a pass rusher- and then have two picks in the second to address WR and corner. Not to mention the money we could spend in FA. I'm not a Joe hater by any means- but the thought does sound a little intriguing if you think about it. Farfetched though I know.

We already have one player I'm excited to see next year and that is Kaufusi.  I was excited that we drafted him and am looking forward to seeing him next year.  I'm also hoping that Maxx Williams can come back strong.  He was starting to look good in 2015 and if he can get that back and continue his upward momentum he could be the player we thought he was when we traded up to get him.

Sadly Im more excited about Waller than Maxx. Hate to say that. Hopefully they both can improve.

Depth is key but you also need quality starters and we're lacking that in a lot of areas. This team certainly needs a lot more than just depth right now.

Well yeah- which  is another reason not to mortgage your future for 1 player when we need starters at multiple positions.

I'm more of a trade down guy honestly. I know it sounds nice to go and get «your guy» but it's just not worth it imo. I mean we are one C, pass rusher and CB from being elite. This class is so good at either position, it's now or never.

We could walk away with a younger and very complete roster, after 3 years of rebuilding. I know it would be nice and all to have a «special» player but there's a difference between being audacious and impatient and in this precise draft class it would mean the latter to trade the house for one guy.

Gonna have to agree. The draft is basically a crap shoot and the more picks your holding the better the odds to hit the jackpot.  I always remind myself Antonio brown was a 6th rounder. That speaks volumes.

  9. Normally I'd say no way we make a block buster trade like that- but IF somehow Garret fell to say 4 or 5 somehow...I think Bisciotti would be pounding on the table so hard that they would do everything they could to make it happen. Its extremely risky to put all your eggs in a basket on one player- he could get injured or just simply not transition well to the NFL. But he does seem to be the real deal and a sure thing- so I think they would give serious consideration to it. It could pay off big time and he could become the next cornerstone of the organization. It just all depends on the board and how highly they covet other players. If Tim Williams ain't too far behind and you got a real chance of him falling to you without having to give up multiple first and thirds then there's just no way..and I think this will probably be the case. Plus we aren't just another pass rusher away...we have other needs..and with the deep class we can find that CB or WR in the second or third easily. Along with a center. Its just generally so much wiser  to go with more picks BC you have such a higher chance at hittin on somebody. Pro bowlers are found in the fourth and fifth round every year. And there are busts in the top ten every year. That's why I think we will probably stick with our philosophy. But it all depends on how bad Bisciotti wants that blue chip pass rusher- we know he's wanted it for years- and that's arguably the main thing that's been holding this team back from greatness- along with another corner. We need a replacement for suggs and doom. ASAP.  so who knows? My guess is were more likely to trade back than up though.

Thought I should update my big board. I put a # for every player i think the ravens view as "red star" prospect (not the first 2 because there's no chance we get either) and an * on players who my have character concerns or injury concerns

1- Myles Garrett OLB Texas A&M

    2- Jonathan Allen DE Alabama

    3- Jamal Adams S LSU #

4- Derek Barnett EDGE Tennessee #

5- Malik Hooker FS Ohio St

    6- Reuben Foster MLB Alabama

7- Jabrill Peppers ATH Michigan #

8- Tim Williams OLB Alabama *

    9- Quincy Wilson CB Florida

10- Mike Williams WR Clemson  *

11-  Dalvin Cook RB FSU *

12- Corey Davis WR Western Michigan #

13- Solomon Thomas DL Stanford #

14- Teez Tabor CB Florida *

15- Desmond King CB Iowa #

16- Malik McDowell DL Michigan st

I only went to 16 since that's where we pick. Now that doesn't mean he'll be out pick, I didn't include Qb as I don't think we're looking for one. Also I tried to fit Cam Robinson in there but I couldn't figure out where. I'm sure the ravens have him in there somewhere.

Now if you remove all the players with * and maybe raise some with a # then the top remaining player on the board could very well end up being our pick. Some other prospects like Takk McKinley, demarcus walker, adorree jackson, or Sydney Jones(another prospect I tried to fit in a crowded CB feild would deff be top 20). All the aforementioned  prospects have a high character and good work ethic could see themselves in our top 15. Others like Marlon Humphrey and Charles Harris could also depending how many prospects we Deem undraftable.

I could very well see us taking solomon thomas, Desmond king or even takk McKinley because of our organization falling in love with one of them. It always seems to be the prospect that we like to pick on here like perriman and stanley. Yet we failed to realize these were kids who had no off field baggage and are deemed high character and hard worker were viewed so highly by our organization

Just curious why have cook but not include fournette?

I am sorry but this is undeniably delusional. Denial isn't just a river in Egypt. The organization needs to change its culture if we are to return to the promised land. If we're only a player or two away, why did we allow a 3rd string RB to run roughshod through our defense in Cincinnati? This team needs a S, CB, OLB, C, RT, 2WRs, TE and a thoroughbred RB (U know like a horse) to get back into the foxhunt. Otherwise, we will have to be content with mediocrity again. Our regular season record since the Super Bowl is 31-33 but it is getting worse, not better. In the last two seasons under Harry Houdini Harbaugh - not, our regular season record is 13-19. I may have overstated our personnel needs because Campanaro and Waller or Maxx could fill two of the above needs but you have grossly understated our needs. This team is undisciplined and complacent and that's a coaching problem. What good is a commitment to continuity when we are continuously mediocre? Bring in Matt Patricia, Steve!

"Culture eats strategy for breakfast." - Peter Druecker

Have you seen the teams in the playoffs so far? We can hang with any of them. We took Pittsburgh to the brink of defeat in their house. We lost by 6 inches. One play such as a tipped ball or a stripped sack and were likely Afc north champions and hosting the fish whom we filleted about a month ago. So yes- I believe we are a couple players away. A top notch pass rusher- a vet receiver- and a serviceable above average corner to play opposite jimmy- or to fill in when he goes down...and we're right there.  We had a top ranked defense almost all year and that was with hardly no pass rush. Imagine if we get that going how much better we will be and how much it will help the secondary!  Actually commit to running the ball  on offense- controlling the clock and keeping the defense fresh while opening things up for the deep ball and play action and we can get things rolling on both sides of the ball. I'm trying not to drink too much cool aid but we do have a strong foundation in place and if we have another draft anywhere similar to 2016's we will be in great shape.

fournette with his nagging ankle and high mileage and running style worries me. if hes there at 16 id do it but i wouldnt trade up for a guy at a low value position with real concerns.

hes gonna age a lot faster than the typical runningback the way he runs, especially if our OL is anything short of elite.

Honestly I don't think he's gonna fair well in the NFL. I could be wayyy wrong but I just have a hunch he's gonna have a hard time unless he goes to a team with a great o line. He ran all over weak defenses but teams that had strong run D's he often struggled with. And like you said I think he may struggle with injuries.

Playing like a Raven has slowly but surely changed due to Harbaughs identity as well as league standards--the rule book. Ray, Ed, Sizzle, Bart Scott, McAllister, Ngata, Pollard, KO, Yanda etc. it used to mean relentless smash mouth football. Play hard every down and hit anything that moves as hard as you can.

The new mantra is blue collar, bring your lunch box to work kinda guys. The ones you know work hard, but don't hear much from and don't have any distractions🙄 Outside of Weddle and sizzle for a year, what leaders do we have.

I think Orr can be that guy. Mosley as well. They're not as vocal but they lead by example. That rah rah guy might not be on the team yet- but suggs can play that role for atleast another year.

Here is another name reading up on him Demontae Kazee CB San Diego St. 5-10 190 proj 4-5th rd.

    STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES

Peeks back toward the quarterback and isn't afraid to drop his primary coverage duties to break quickly back to the ball, showing impressive field vision.

Tracks the ball well, exhibiting the body control and concentration to make difficult over-the-shoulder grabs. Excellent hand-eye coordination to punch at the ball (six forced fumbles over his career) and showed exciting development as an interceptor in 2015, turning eight of his career-high 15 passes breakups into interceptions after recording just one in 13 opportunities in 2014.

Competitive open-field tackler, who aggressively slithers his way past would-be blockers to get into the action. Not an imposing hitter but is a sure tackler who wraps his arms for the secure stop

Not saying he's our guy but those traits right there are EXACTLY what we need in a corner. I cannot stand a db who's afraid or unable to look for the ball and go after it. So many interceptions are there for the taking if they would just turn around!

Also the open feild tackling is a must. We don't need a guy to knock the snot out of somebody ( although that's nice to see) we just need a guy who will wrap up and not allow unnecessary YAC - which has KILLED us.

  15. Sadly we're still feeling the effects of the Ray Rice situation. After that occured we wanted to clean our act up a bit and we had to be a lot more careful with guys with character concerns. We also had to have a much shorter leash with current players getting in trouble ( a la Bernard Peirce). Sometimes it works out and sometimes it don't. We could draft a feirce pass rusher like Aldon smith and then he could get suspended indefinitely for the year and do us no good whatsoever while also giving us bad press and costing us $$. There's just a fine line you gotta walk- I think we need to loosen up a bit and stop walking on eggshells- start taking a few more chances as long as its not DV stuff or something blatantly obvious-  but I also have no problem with going with high character guys if they are ranked similarly to another player who is fierce but has red flags. The High character guy may take his off season more seriously and work harder to get in shape and study the play and rulebook while the guy with red flags is out partying with Johnny Manziel somewhere and shows up to camp overweight and outta shape.  Its hard to judge young guys character...some make mistakes just being young and learn their lesson and others  never learn and are just hardheaded. That's when you really have to do your homework- question highschool and college friends- teachers- teammates and coaches diligently.

Cook is interesting because a good run game can keep the other team off the field and would open up the offense and possibly make Joe better so you could potentially improve both the offense and defense with one move.  I don't think this should be overlooked as a possibility for us in the first, second or third even with Dixon

I think we only should consider taking him if we get caught in the middle with all of our top pass rushers off the board...not wanting to reach for somebody who's a late first rounder- and not being able to find a trade back partner... Only in that scenario do I see us taking Cook.

came here specifically to address walterfootball.

that draft would leave me feeling so incredibly empty. i dont believe mcdowell changes much on our defense, we upgrade a strength and leave our weak parts weak. if mcaffrey is there mid 2nd, id be hard pressed to find a better value, id take him over most prospects that are likely available there, no problem there and hopefully he can provide us a nice boost in the screen/short passing game. darboh in the third though would have me so freaking livid id call for ozzies head for the first time ever.

I don't see how some of these analysts have jobs.  My mom could put together a better mock than that.

  18. If fournette somehow fell past pick 8 would anybody consider trading up for him?  I too don't think our line is that far away...we can invest in a center with our second pick and boom we will be right there with an elite rb corps and very solid o line. Even if the center didn't work out right away we could continue to groom urschel during camp and may the best man win.

However this is not the best option for this team.. A center is needed...but we have a running back that has a ton of potential in Dixon and a third back can be found later- who knows they might already be on the team. Where we stand right now- we almost HAVE to address the pass rush in the first round. Bisciotti will not have it any other way- and that is the one thing that kept us from the playoffs this year. With even a slightly better pass rush we could've finished off atleast 3 more games that we lost at the end- including that steelers last drive. So unless another blue chip player falls in our lap due to unknown reasons ( a la Tunsil last year) we have to go with the best pass rusher on the board. No questions asked. And they cannot be a project like KC. immediate contribution.
