I know many people don't do trades in mocks- but I'm all but convinced we trade back and acquire and extra 2nd or 3rd to give us extra ammunition since I'm thinking Barnett , Williams and Davis will all be gone due to the lack of qbs taken. Ross will not be on our board. I think we will be aggressive to an extent- but we have a lot of holes and roster spots to fill. A lot of people think we need to go all out and get Joe weapons- which we will get him some- but I think this will be a very defense heavy draft despite already making several defensive moves in FA. I think we saw how close we were to having a #1 defense last year- noticed our weaknesses- and will attempt to capitalize and add on to that so we can get back to the Ravens of old. We are going to have a solid defense across the board - with strong depth as well.
I will say in this case we tradeback just a couple spots to net an extra third and still land our original target.
1) Tak McKinley- one of the top receivers would've been nice- but so is getting an extra third and still landing one of the top pass rushers to give us a heir for an aging Suggs.
2) Kevin King - many have him as a first round talent- and he's been moving up a lot of peoples boards lately. Great height at 6'3 and reads qbs well. Will be great competition for Carr or as an insurance policy if Jimmy goes down again.
I think with all the ammunition we have in the third- we use one of those picks to jump back into the 2nd.
2) JuJu Schuster- as I said Williams obviously would've been nice - but Ju also fits the bill perfectly as to what we need- a tall possession type receiver. Some might not expect him to be around at the end of the 2nd- which is exactly why we aggressively jump up to grab him.
3( From Eagles) Taylor Moton- we need a replacement for Wagner and he actually ends up being an upgrade. This guy is like a freakin grizzly bear. Can also move to Tackle in a pinch. Great value here.
3) Rasul Douglas- we double dip at corner to make sure we get it right. Another guy with good height who goes after the ball and makes things happen. Turnovers win games and this guy will get us some much needed interceptions when he sees the feild. Big fan of this guy.
4) Carroll Phillips- double dipping at pass rusher is also a pretty good idea. We tend to do most of our best work between rounds 3- 5.. So hopefully this is another one of those late round gems Ozzie hits on.
5) Donnell Pumphrey- this is one of those guys I have a hard time figuring out where he will end up going. Could go anywhere from the 3rd to 6th...however I know he is definitely in our crosshairs as we have spoken and met with him more than any other back. He's a smaller structured guy but don't let that fool you- he can get it done. Broke Marshall Faulks yardage record and pretty much can do it all. I watched him on an ESPN draft special last night featuring running backs where he was on with Dalvin Cook and a couple of the other top backs in the draft- and he just puts off that future star vibe. He did very well in all the drills and my only worry is he's now on a lot of other teams radars and may get scooped up sooner. I believe I've included him in every mock I've done so far and I'm including him in this one.
6) this pick couldve went a lot of different ways -so I used the process of elimination. With the CB additions along with the signing of Jefferson you can pretty much say our secondary is set. I would say we could draft a safety here but with the recent resigning of Webb I think were very content here with Weddle, Jefferson, Webb , and Levine. LB was another option- however I get the feeling we have a lot of confidence in either Patrick Onwasaur or KC stepping up beside CJ Mosley. I've addressed the pass rushers already as I have us double dipping to go along with Suggs, Judon , ZDS, and Kafusi. The only thing really left is possibly taking a DT -double dipping at WR ( which we do currently have a lot of openings) or further bolstering the Oline. Any of those 3 would make perfect sense- the FO has addressed that the OL will be a priority- but I think we will eventually sign Nick Mangold and we also have high hopes for a few of our other guys such as Wesley and Nembot. I also think we will sign 2 vet receivers to go along with Juju - Wallace- Perriman - and Campanaro. One of which will be Boldin. So I have us leaning towards taking a DT. With Peirce and Bwill- we have a lot of size to stuff the run- but we don't have much interior pass rush. I think we attempt to take the highest rated DT on their board who knows how to get after the quarterback. I'm not very savvy when it comes to scouting players - so I'll admit I kind of just guessed here...Ryan Glasgow seems like he'd be a good fit. Being a guy from Michigan- Jim will give us the scoop on whether he's worth it or not- but he had a pretty impressive season as a senior with 4 sacks, 9.5 tackles for a loss, and a FF. However he's best suited for a 4-3 defense. That being said- there's always a few guys that fall- and Im gonna say we get lucky and Vincent Taylor falls in our lap. He's a sleeper but he's had 12 sacks in the last 2 years. In 2017 he had 13 tackles for a loss- 7 sacks and 2 FF.. He's got good size and is a good athlete who would give us some much needed interior pass rush. Guys like Brady and Big Ben; who are 2 of the main guys we will have to get through to take it all the way; easily avoid outside rushers by stepping up in the pocket. But time and time again teams have shown that pressure up the middle drive him and Brady crazy. Peirce and Bwill will stuff the run- but after the Jernigan trade we need a guy who is a threat up the middle. Slim chance he will fall to the 6th but certainly possible and IMO we will turn the card in quickly.
