im with you...for some reason I just get that feeling that Ozzie will go against our biggest needs and take a RB. The board will go nuts until he rushes for 1000 and scores 10 TDs and everybody calls him a genius. ( i think dixon can be that guy so i would probably go nuts too. ) It doesnt happen unless its fournette or cook though.
January J replied to JoeyFlex5's topic in 2017 NFL Draft
Good point , I should've known it wasn't that simple.
Yeah that would be foolish. Should've done my homework before throwing out a crazy hypothetical
Also a good point and I agree. However what if one of those top guys is on the board in round 2? Alot more important needs but I'm sure it would cross their mind don't you think?
January J replied to Moderator 2's topic in Ravens Talk
Not during the second half of the season... He tapered off big time.
Still , a 1000 yard season is a great accomplishment.
Tough call but I'd keep Orr. He's only going to get better and I'd be pissed if we whiffed on the pick. Stick with what we know we have.
January J replied to JoeyFlex5's topic in 2017 NFL Draft
Hypothetically what if we're offered a first and a 2nd for Flacco? Not only do we clear all that cap- but we could draft say Deshaun Watson along with a pass rusher- and then have two picks in the second to address WR and corner. Not to mention the money we could spend in FA. I'm not a Joe hater by any means- but the thought does sound a little intriguing if you think about it. Farfetched though I know.
January J replied to JoeyFlex5's topic in 2017 NFL Draft
Gonna have to agree. The draft is basically a crap shoot and the more picks your holding the better the odds to hit the jackpot. I always remind myself Antonio brown was a 6th rounder. That speaks volumes.

Normally I'd say no way we make a block buster trade like that- but IF somehow Garret fell to say 4 or 5 somehow...I think Bisciotti would be pounding on the table so hard that they would do everything they could to make it happen. Its extremely risky to put all your eggs in a basket on one player- he could get injured or just simply not transition well to the NFL. But he does seem to be the real deal and a sure thing- so I think they would give serious consideration to it. It could pay off big time and he could become the next cornerstone of the organization. It just all depends on the board and how highly they covet other players. If Tim Williams ain't too far behind and you got a real chance of him falling to you without having to give up multiple first and thirds then there's just no way..and I think this will probably be the case. Plus we aren't just another pass rusher away...we have other needs..and with the deep class we can find that CB or WR in the second or third easily. Along with a center. Its just generally so much wiser to go with more picks BC you have such a higher chance at hittin on somebody. Pro bowlers are found in the fourth and fifth round every year. And there are busts in the top ten every year. That's why I think we will probably stick with our philosophy. But it all depends on how bad Bisciotti wants that blue chip pass rusher- we know he's wanted it for years- and that's arguably the main thing that's been holding this team back from greatness- along with another corner. We need a replacement for suggs and doom. ASAP. so who knows? My guess is were more likely to trade back than up though.

Have you seen the teams in the playoffs so far? We can hang with any of them. We took Pittsburgh to the brink of defeat in their house. We lost by 6 inches. One play such as a tipped ball or a stripped sack and were likely Afc north champions and hosting the fish whom we filleted about a month ago. So yes- I believe we are a couple players away. A top notch pass rusher- a vet receiver- and a serviceable above average corner to play opposite jimmy- or to fill in when he goes down...and we're right there. We had a top ranked defense almost all year and that was with hardly no pass rush. Imagine if we get that going how much better we will be and how much it will help the secondary! Actually commit to running the ball on offense- controlling the clock and keeping the defense fresh while opening things up for the deep ball and play action and we can get things rolling on both sides of the ball. I'm trying not to drink too much cool aid but we do have a strong foundation in place and if we have another draft anywhere similar to 2016's we will be in great shape.
Honestly I don't think he's gonna fair well in the NFL. I could be wayyy wrong but I just have a hunch he's gonna have a hard time unless he goes to a team with a great o line. He ran all over weak defenses but teams that had strong run D's he often struggled with. And like you said I think he may struggle with injuries.
I think Orr can be that guy. Mosley as well. They're not as vocal but they lead by example. That rah rah guy might not be on the team yet- but suggs can play that role for atleast another year.
January J replied to JoeyFlex5's topic in 2017 NFL Draft
Not saying he's our guy but those traits right there are EXACTLY what we need in a corner. I cannot stand a db who's afraid or unable to look for the ball and go after it. So many interceptions are there for the taking if they would just turn around!
Also the open feild tackling is a must. We don't need a guy to knock the snot out of somebody ( although that's nice to see) we just need a guy who will wrap up and not allow unnecessary YAC - which has KILLED us.
Yeah I disagree..ofcourse we need another top notch corner... But the pass rush has got to be the priority. A good pass rush cash make an average secondary look great.
Just watch Ray Lewis , Reed, and sizzle play and that will tell you all you need to know. They set the standard and are basically the definition of "play like a raven"
Hard to come by guys like that anymore.
Sadly we're still feeling the effects of the Ray Rice situation. After that occured we wanted to clean our act up a bit and we had to be a lot more careful with guys with character concerns. We also had to have a much shorter leash with current players getting in trouble ( a la Bernard Peirce). Sometimes it works out and sometimes it don't. We could draft a feirce pass rusher like Aldon smith and then he could get suspended indefinitely for the year and do us no good whatsoever while also giving us bad press and costing us $$. There's just a fine line you gotta walk- I think we need to loosen up a bit and stop walking on eggshells- start taking a few more chances as long as its not DV stuff or something blatantly obvious- but I also have no problem with going with high character guys if they are ranked similarly to another player who is fierce but has red flags. The High character guy may take his off season more seriously and work harder to get in shape and study the play and rulebook while the guy with red flags is out partying with Johnny Manziel somewhere and shows up to camp overweight and outta shape. Its hard to judge young guys character...some make mistakes just being young and learn their lesson and others never learn and are just hardheaded. That's when you really have to do your homework- question highschool and college friends- teachers- teammates and coaches diligently.
January J replied to BALTIMOREFLACCO's topic in 2017 NFL Draft
I think we only should consider taking him if we get caught in the middle with all of our top pass rushers off the board...not wanting to reach for somebody who's a late first rounder- and not being able to find a trade back partner... Only in that scenario do I see us taking Cook.
If fournette somehow fell past pick 8 would anybody consider trading up for him? I too don't think our line is that far away...we can invest in a center with our second pick and boom we will be right there with an elite rb corps and very solid o line. Even if the center didn't work out right away we could continue to groom urschel during camp and may the best man win.
However this is not the best option for this team.. A center is needed...but we have a running back that has a ton of potential in Dixon and a third back can be found later- who knows they might already be on the team. Where we stand right now- we almost HAVE to address the pass rush in the first round. Bisciotti will not have it any other way- and that is the one thing that kept us from the playoffs this year. With even a slightly better pass rush we could've finished off atleast 3 more games that we lost at the end- including that steelers last drive. So unless another blue chip player falls in our lap due to unknown reasons ( a la Tunsil last year) we have to go with the best pass rusher on the board. No questions asked. And they cannot be a project like KC. immediate contribution.
