  1. Same here. We don't need a small overpriced aging wr for 14 mil no way
  2. So long as we are considering cherrypicking another Viking, might as well add Adrian Peterson to the shopping cart and call it an offseason. Marshal was with the Bears, Lacy was with Green Bay, Logan Ryan was with NE, its Patterson- not Peterson. get those 4 playmakers.
  3. Problem is he doesn't want to listen to coaches, work on how to run routes or study game film. Talent alone doesn't do anything in the NFL, hence the 4th or 5th WR on the Vikings. Doesn't want to put in the work..... That could explain it...however the Vikings haven't had recent, or great success with WR's either. So maybe there is more to the story.
  4. First of all it shouldn't. The CB squad just played lousy. replace them all except Smith and Young. The Ravens should be able to acquire a CB if they want to, cap space wouldn't really be the main issue, the key is if the player is worth the money considering the Ravens have Smith and Young. SO if you want to pay for a high impact CB get rid of Smith. Otherwise pay smart and get a talented NFL CB of near equal talent, that can step in and not fall apart like what happened last year. WR- again the Ravens need a playmaker who knows their place. Wallace, Perriman and Moore are high skill players they just need a supporting member. Someone who can hold on to the football, draw coverage, execute routes, extend plays and constantly work hard get open for Flacco while on the field. If you want to trade dollars, NT is not the position to do it. We can use a Leveon Bell, lets give Pittsvile Suggs and Dumervil for Bell, they wouldn't take it in a million years- that's how much money he will make this year. The Ravens have money tied up in a few wrong places. time to let Dumervil Go, now him I would trade salaries for a CB or WR
  5. annually is the only way to look at a multi year contract from a planning standpoint. If the Ravens can re-sign Williams at a number that works for both of them that is what matters. My opinion is the Ravens can expect to dedicate 10mil per year to the defensive leader on this team. That right now is Williams. Suggs is the Veteran leader, Weddle is the backfield captain and vet leader, Its time to lock down Williams to take the team to the high point, and invest as an overall leader. I think he can do it. He has the skills and savoy to pull this team together. Its not going to come from a CB, so lets not kid ourselves. The time is right. Some may have rather it had been KO or Nagta but the timing was not there, IT is now. Intangibles are sometimes as important as everything else in this game. 5 years /50 is a fair price for his talent. offer it and I bet he stays. There are ways to make that cap friendly or bonus filled, The Ravens have ways to make this year financially work out quite nicely, stay with the core, allow a number of players to move if needed, rely on depth but don't pass on practically FA "sure things". Williams, Juice, Wagner, or playmakers Wallace, Webb and Pitta considering options.
  6. or Steal Brandon Lafell from Cincinnati
  7. Cordarrelle Patterson could be a great interview for the Ravens. Here is a kid who brings playmaking to all 3 areas of need on offense. Someone give Oz or Eric (or whomever you might know) acall and see if this is an idea. Take a look at his numbers, he has been under utilized which means we could be getting a hidden gem. He is willing to carry the ball into danger and loves to break open. Apparently he has pretty good hands, athletic ability and good size.
  8. I don't think The Ravens should be in a big hurry to rush on a WR, There are quite a few who can help them this year. However they should bring in the right vet. For a good price, 5-8 mil is fair for their needs depending on the player. The Ravens need a player who wants to play like a Raven, who isn't selfish and who sees the potential in this squad to win the big show. A player who sees that Brashad needs to shine and get one on one coverage, that Wallace needs to be slippery and break away, and clearly understands that the slot, curl, cut and reverse field are requirements not options. The number one job that this #2/3 "option" vet receiver can bring is to get open for Flacco. Keep working the field and be a playmaker. There are certain types of players out there who play that style of game, my suggestion is to find a Raven who can do it.
  9. Ravens writers don't speak for management or front office. Translated. This is a speculation piece. Translated. Suggs and Dumervil are old. Translated. Correa is probably actually going to play inside linebacker and this article is talking about an edge defender, so they have little to do with one another. Translated. You have a preconceived notion that Correa is a bust, and for some reason, despite being a fan of the team, want him to fail to prove yourself right. absolutely correct; Dumervil might be worth a trade, he has plenty of skill, some motor left and veteran leadership that could be valuable to another team. Here the Ravens may find a crazy CB deal or possibly WR or RB. Translated- the Ravens should look young for a LB. The 2 and 3 year LB's on this team have had to platoon to get playing time. Correa started off pretty rough. Clubhouse problems, then injuries, then just fitting in around a senior squad Translated- how can you know what Correa can do? his playing time was so minimal and developing into a an NFL player happens to 80% of draftees. Most do not walk on as Pro-bowlers. Even without Correa, the Ravens LB corp is deep and talented. There is no reason to spend high picks or huge amounts of cap money on a superb area of your team, not at least this year. There are many. many other areas of focus. Translated- (dos) Second or (tres) Third round.
  10. raven how many #2s do we have? lol
  11. wagner has been solid but he will command 8 million plus and they must choose between him and b. williams and if it were my decision i would choose williams but even that depends on what his asking price is. we have plenty of needs that we cannot fill if we keep both or really overpay for 1. going to be fun watching how everything plays out I agree about how it's gonna be fun watching things pan out. This should be a crazy offseason for us with a lot of moves. Quite a few more than usual I would think. Impactful ones too. Wagner and Williams are a lot of trench power. It was the number 6 pick, so if we missed.......well, yeah. But the Stanley pick is looking really nice to me right now. I agree too, but I'm sticking to my gut that I think The Ravens sit down with these two particular guys and talk straight with them. Wagner is a 5.5-6.5 mil Tackle period, and he is worth more to the Ravens than probably most teams because he is strictly a Right side player. Of course Yanda is big man on Campus- but with Stanley, Lewis, Jensen, and Urschel all capable of making more per year, newbees -Skura, Puhgsley, Broxton and Nembot looming and a Draft pending. The Ravens O-line looks to be very, very solid and Wagner should want to be a part of it to make a run at the "big Dance". The same look should be made from the Defense side with Williams, obviously his number is probably double because of position and demand. 10-11 mil / or a decent 5 year progressive contract would be great. But that is really about tops. He is not a 3 down NT, most of the time and he doesn't have chase down speed. I agree with one of the statements i read here about Pierce and Williams, wouldn't we rather have them both for $11 or $12 mil for the next 3 years+ a decision later, rather than Pierce for $1mil and a guess at the outcome (1) Williams, (2) Wagner and The Ravens should highly consider sticking together. The fit may never be better for all parties. Sometimes its just best to take advantage of when the time is right. Keep them both. Go get experienced NFL (3) CB, (4) RB and (5)WR free agent playmakers. Let the following go- Dumervil, Aiken, Zutta, Elam, Arrington, Ben Watson, K. Lewis, S. Wright, Rolle, Harris-Lewis, Powers, Allen (trade). to gain salary space. try to retain as many of the other RFA and FA's as possible along with (sadly) SS Sr. and Orr salaries there should be enough money for those (5)players and get the rest of the pieces in place.
  12. Thats why the Ravens have to keep losing players to "high bidding", cap excessive, loser teams. Because they cant find talent? Lets look at some other examples; Listen you cannot have it both ways. The fact that the Ravens find good talent at reasonably "value level" picks and FA price availability says quite a lot. It puts them in the top layer of NFL teams as far as the "game". Especially since 2000 with 2 Super Bowls and 9 Playoff appearances, and 12/16 .500 or better seasons. Teams that consistently win, consistently pick low in the Draft. Thus one would think it increases the success/failure rate over all. You cite an interesting opinion about "failure", maybe you can research that stat and see where teams rank on Draft retention, success and contract lengths with the team. Players all develop at different times, on different levels, at certain positions. Payton Manning didn't have a winning season until year 3. Steve Young didn't play for 5 years. Walter Payton had 0 yards rushing in his first NFL game on eight carries, he went on to only earn 680 yds rushing for the year after being picked #4 in the draft. Generally speaking, from my view of the Ravens, they have been above average in player selection. A bit unlucky in some releases (Priest Holmes, Bolden, Stokely ) and a few unavoidable circumstances such as the Ray Rice issue and admittedly the entire Kyle Boller deal.
  13. you saying get rid of WEDDLE? No I was thinking Corner, as far as replacing all but Smith and Young. The Ravens must get a Corner in FA. However to be specific , Elam, Arrington, Powers, Lewis -Harris, Price and K. Lewis all can go. Sure The Ravens could pick up King as a S/DB and another CB, even 2 more in the Draft. At this point for financial and cohesive reasons keep S - Webb, Weddle, Huff and Levine. Then adding some young blood, decent FA moves and maybe some UFA's, I think will be the way to make the changes needed to push this backfield toward the top half of the NFL.
  14. I think the expense of Torrey and Marshal is more expensive than, Wallace -Marshal. So I think the Ravens, if the option was on the table would probably keep Wallace. Wallace cost the Ravens 5.8 mil to release and 8 mil to keep I believe Marshal could cost them up to 5- 7.5 mil per year to add Torrey could cost them up to 4- 6.5 mil per year to add SO unless they would get a trade offer or timing were to play out negatively, which would be very poor mgmt, I cannot see that scenario playing out. They could opt to keep Wallace and add Torrey, but that may not be the option they like as much as Marshal just because of playing style. Wallace just looks too expensive to release for most of the options unless they want to look at going at something like Torrey, Aiken, Perriman, and Draft WR. That would probably save some cash. Aiken becomes your Slot.
  15. by rights, Perriman should be the Ravens #1 receiver this year. #1 pick, tenure, speed, youth and talent. But lets look back for a minute and give the kid a break because he has had it tough and he also has had a few pretty good receivers step up in front of him. So Aiken shows up when both Smith Sr and Perriman are out and logs in 800 yds for a season high, very impressive for a 5-11 record, and Flacco out for 4 Games. In 2014 Smith Sr comes in with over 1000 yds. Then last year 2016 Wallace and Smith and Aiken and Perriman, plus Pitta and the rest, all total for Flacco's biggest year and a team high 4300 yds. So NO we don't need Marshal to be a #1, in fact we don't need Marshal to be a #2 that is what is great about it. What we need Marshal to be is a playmaker! We need him to be a leader and a veteran who sets an example of NFL play. This guy is a gamer, he is big and fast and strong, He makes plays, acrobatic plays, that is what the Ravens need. Sure if the price is right get him. You have to let Aiken go to do it. But if he is available and the money looks good, do it. - Flacco can do much damage with- Perriman, Wallace, Marshal, Moore, Campinaro, Renolds, Matthews. Just because the Jets owe him 7.5, it doesn't mean that is what the Ravens will have to pay. 5.5 would be much better, that would just about equal out adding the + balance of Wallace vs gaining back SS Sr. Salary $. But, and a big but, An experienced NFL Cornerback is much more important.
  16. I like the idea of multi- positions and sure the Kid might be a great fit or he might be another Matt Elam. For a solution with a higher percentage of success to the Cornerback issue The Ravens need a definitive NFL CB not a project. One that is required to step in and be the strong side CB. Smith has proven himself unreliable at staying on the field, they will not let him go obviously if he is healthy enough to perform as a rule. However it was obvious this year, the minute he leaves the field the Ravens backfield changed drastically for the worse. There is no practical reason to repeat that same process. Get an experienced corner who can play at an equal level to Smith or Tavon or higher. Sure add this kid or 2 CB in the draft. I say, regrettably, get rid of everyone from last year except Smith and Young. But in my opinion, the Ravens must pay the money, get a CB with NFL experience and high talent in the area of covering pro-bowl WR receivers because that is who the Ravens contend with week after week. Its time to figure it out Oz and Eric, that's why you are there.
  17. First, this year the Ravens actually have the Cap space, unlike the KO deal /year. 8 Mill a year for 5 years 5/40 would probably do it The Ravens can afford that even 42 if they had to. KO went for 12. The Ravens can also keep Wagner at 5.5 Mil./4 years 3 players go- Doom- Zuttah - Aiken there's your 13.5 mil cap space I would gladly take that career move exchange . No scenario where Wagner signs for $5.5M. I wouldn't even listen to an offer that doesn't have a $7M/year in front of it. That's likely the floor in any discussions. And Aiken is a UFA, so we don't gain any cap space by letting him go. You can cut Doom and Zuttah, and we probably will, though you'll also need to sign a Center via the draft or FA, which will cut into that number. You also have some more players who will be looking for extensions in the near future, such as Mosley, Jernigan, etc. YOu could be close, thats still only 1.5 different. However Wagner being a RT and really not a transition type player, he is limited to right side, he worth more to the Ravens than many teams. Aiken is leaving, which frees up salary space (cap) and The Ravens have SS Sr. Salary to work with. Zuttah's salary is re defined by no longer the need to carry Ray Rice money on the offense. If you want me to figure it out I will..but I doubt they would listen. Anyway, the point is, the Ravens can afford to keep both Williams and Wagner. If they feel that these 2 guys are the 2 to invest in to make a run. With Yanda, Stanley, Lewis, on one side and Jernigan,Guy, and Pierce on the other. Does keeping them and finding that CENTER make these lines Top. ??? if so its worth doing it
  18. Cornerback, Cornerback, Cornerback, Williams, Wagner, RB, WR, Center.
  19. The free agent market concerning the center position isn't really all that attractive. The best free agent center that will be available is JC Tretter who only has one season where he was healthy out of fours year he's been in The NFl and then there's Stefen Wisniewski who i'm not sure fit's what The Ravens are looking for since they said they want to get bigger on the offensive line. Overall it seems like they going to be stuck with finding a future starting center in the draft and even the draft isn't all that appealing at the center position to my understanding. In my opinion The Ravens are going to have to hope Jeremy Zuttah improves and maybe even get stronger by hitting the weight room. A rookie or maybe someone already on the roster maybe the answer to what they looking for but it's just not clear right now that will find a immediate upgrade over Zuttah. A smaller Center might be a fit for the Ravens, they had a great Center for 12 years by the name of Burke who was about the same size. Its about talent and maneuverability as a Center. Keeping Wagner and Jenson, adding Wisnieski if he can make the grade at center, and drafting a young G/C is actually a great move. The Team has already experienced what Zuttah can/cannot do for 2 years and its not worth exposing this O-line to a poor start to a possible Play-off season. Matt "Birk" played 10 years for Minnesota and 4 years for the Ravens. He was at the tail end of his career but his strength was in calling blocking schemes. When Gradkowski started in 2013 their was a big dropoff. Zuttah has been with the Ravens for 3 years. Zuttah will be in his 10th year, I don't think the weight room will Help. Thanks, for clarifying, Yeah i meant who played Center for-what you have clarified as 14 years.- not all for the Ravens, sorry. Burke was a small Center but a great one. I agree Zutta, I don't think he is going to get any better. He is, who he is and he gave it his all. Sometimes its time to move on.
  20. First, this year the Ravens actually have the Cap space, unlike the KO deal /year. 8 Mill a year for 5 years 5/40 would probably do it The Ravens can afford that even 42 if they had to. 21. Agreed, Marshall is absolutely an Ozzie/Bisciotti move. If the money is right and he is willing to defer I could see them working out a deal. This would work well for the Ravens as you mention because his speed is still good and his size is incredibly perfect for the squad of, Wallace, Perriman, Pitta and then options of Campi, Moore, Waller adding Juice and the RBs. I think Marshall would be a link to that veteran side of things that will be missing in losing Sr. And lastly Flacco could use his acrobatic nature in catching the ball. Maybe it bleeds over a little on the others too. Go for it!
  22. 23. Not good enough, obviously. The O-line was healthy at times and the RB's still lacked the ability to develop plays. Sure the Raw talent exists, but the ability to make the big play, to develop a run, to see the play in front of them and gain first downs did not happen, certainly not enough. Dixon may need one more year to develop into an every down back, I don't see West ever being an every down back. So the Ravens should get a 1000yd RB for the Super Bowl 52 win. GO ahead and get a shut down corner, and draft 2 CB's as well. And a Guard. I agree with that too. so lets recap- Ravens- Get a RB in FA Get a CB via Trade or FA Get a WR in FA Draft 2 CB Draft 1 Guard Draft 1 Center Draft 1 LB/S Draft 1QB Draft 1 WR Keep FA- Williams, Wagner, Webb, Juice, Wallace, Guy, Urschel, option- Pitta, Pierce, Hurst, Jenson, Jernigen, Campi, Cox trade/waive or release- Doom, Zutta, Aiken( for Williams and Wagner) Watson, Arrington, Elam, Powers, Wright, Lost- Orr- Smith Sr
  24. Joe Flacco didn't regress. Joe Flacco set personal and team records for passing yards, 4340 yds exceeding his best previous season by 400 yrds. In 8 seasons he now holds Franchise records for Yards, Compltetions, Touchdowns and Wins. Not just that the yards, QB ratings and all the stats were all either very close to his "normal" above average NFL standards, Joe Flacco continues to endure a what some would call a revolving door at the OC and QB Coach positions. Some untimely Wide Receiver moves, injuries and FA situations have caused cohesive Offense execution. Not to mention an Offensive Line that went through a complete overhaul with the exception of Pro- Bowler Marshal Yanda. Lastly a severe season ending injury that luckily only cost Joe 4 Games and with tremendous off- season re-conditioning he came back, played a full 16 game season with a brace on his leg. He set personal records. His team was not full strength and his Offence fielded at times 5 rookies out of 11. Pro-football Report, one of the leading national syndicated sports statistical co,reports the following; comparing for the same year of their careers- in Years - the Quarterbacks who's career was of similar quality and shape- Year 5- Jim Kelly*, Ben Roethlisberger, Fran Tarkenton*, Joe Namath*, Ken O'Brien, Aaron Brooks, Doug Williams, John Elway*, Bernie Kosar, Jay Cutler Year 6- Ben Roethlisberger, Fran Tarkenton*, John Elway*, Jim Kelly*, Warren Moon*, Steve Grogan, Eli Manning, Drew Bledsoe, Aaron Brooks, Ken O'Brien Year 7- John Elway*, Ben Roethlisberger, Jim Kelly*, Drew Bledsoe, Eli Manning, Jim Everett, Ken O'Brien, Tom Brady, Fran Tarkenton*, John Hadl Year 8- Eli Manning, Mark Brunell, John Hadl, John Elway*, Ken O'Brien, Drew Bledsoe, Jay Cutler, Bob Griese*, Jim Everett, Steve McNair I would not classify this as regression. A poor Team season yes.
  25. I'm not sure if hurst will ever be a good enough LT or even RT in the NFL. Hes not strong enough to maul anyone and not fast enough to stay in front of good pass rushers. That's a disaster waiting to happen... I wouldn't mind sliding him inside just to see what we have in him but even then, he'd be on such a short leash that it's not even funny. Jensen and Urschel are guys I like but still havnt proven they can keep Joe upright. we have a solid foundation in Yanda Lewis and Stanley to build around. I just hope we don't throw a bunch of no ones in between them and expect much sucess. We need 3 good linemen if zuttah and Wagner leave and 2 quality backups if they stay. My opinion is , Let Zutta go as I describe below. Make Jensen the Center, he needs to spend time at the position, he has the talent he just needs the training and time at the position. Then I would Draft a Center or Guard and keep competition for FA and walk ons. Keep Lewis, Hurst, Urschel, Ducasse and Nembot, Stanley and Yanda
