He ain't no zone blocker so that shows a lot about where we're going but holy moly this guy next to Stanley? With Yanda two slots down? We finally have that nasty, mean bully.

Could you briefly explain the main differences between power and zone blocking schemes to a noob such as myself?
I believe we (effectively) used power blocking during the super bowl run, and then for some reason decided to ditch it the next season in favor of zone blocking?

Last year's defense was tied for 1st in the league in ints and created a bunch of turnovers overall. Now that was done with little pass rush and shareece wright playing a lot so imagine what this defense could do with this new group of guys and no wright.

Word, although Wright played out of his mind the first 2-3 games IIRC.

The defense better be ready to score some points, Joe will be running for his life, and the run game will be non existent!

we pay Joe $20 some million, and don't protect him, WHY?

Good question, obviously the FO is aware of this and they obviously know more than we do. We should consider that there are talks with Mangold (and perhaps Dunlap) behind the scenes. Furthermore, we should see at least one OL drafted today. UDFA should also contribute along with unproven guys currently on the roster.
    I'm comfortable with a mix of Dixon/West/Woodhead.

You mean the guy we knew would need a year and the guy who happened to get an injury that ended his season.  I mean I get that since Ozzie hit on pretty much every other pick you have to find something to complain about but still that's a massive reach.

Cheers mate, I know Kaufusi got injured. Shouldn't have mentioned him, that's hypocritical since I've had Perriman's back through his injury.
However, Correa is legit imo. We needed pass rush last year as well, and we draft a project in the second - his production taken into account he should have been acquired 1-2 rounds later. Also, most rumors seem to project him at ILB these days.

Btw, I'm not an Ozzie hater at all. Actually really like our FO, but sometimes I just wish they would address need over BPA - just once in a while at anemic positions. We really have no speed off the edge, no one jumps into the backfield.

The owner interfering is the LAST thing we need. No one drafts linemen better than Ozzie, if there is pass rusher worth the pick Ozzie will take him, if not we'll look elsewhere.

Sorta like last year's pot of pash rusher: Correa and Kaufusi? Correa was a crazy reach imo.
We desperately need some speed outside. One of Williams/Lawson/Bowser/Willis should be available at 47 and we need to pull the triggah.

Yea, as much as we could use a guard, there are plenty of guys later in the draft that you could plug and play and move Lewis to RT.  I'd be hard pressed to pass on Lamp.  But you could land a guy like Dion Dawkins, Dan Feeney, Nico Siragusa, Isaac Asiata, possibly in the third or later.

That's fine, then we focus on getting the best pass rusher in round 2. I'm all for that!
Take Lamp if he's there, otherwise let's get a QB slayer.

If we pulled Lamp and Elflein... I have no words as to how excited I'd be. Our interior would be set for the next half decade and the running game.....

We likely wouldn't get a rusher who could impact the game though.
I'd prefer drafting a good rusher and interior OL with the next two picks, and then signing a vet LG/C to bolster the line.

No need to be so hostile bro. He is a good blocker and a fantastic route runner.

OL is easier to address in free agency. You can get solid veterans for cheap. WR you won't find a decent one in FA.

This team has several needs. You can't deny this team needs a wide receiver.

Wasn't going for a hostile vibe - more of pretentious/preachy on a la all the draftnik's who think they know best. Either way, no offense intended sir.
I still do believe that o-line and edge rush should be adressed before wr. Even if we manage to sign Mangold (old, injury prone).

    Perhaps:
    -Lamp/Robinson and Williams/Lawson/Bowser
    -Williams/Lawson/Bowser and Elflein/Feeney/Pocic

After those two positions I'd like a WR as well, maybe ArDarius Stewart mid 3rd?

I would love to see us snag JuJu Smith-Schuster today. I think he can make an immediate impact on this offense. Call me selfish but I wanna see Dalvin Cook in Black & Purple. I'm not too fond of our running backs (west, dixon). Woodhead is good but he's a situational player. Cook has that explosive big play ability we need!

Such a good player and underrated (Zay Jones). Ravens need a route runner in the middle. He would be that guy to pick up those first downs.

Is he a better/more savvy route runner than Smith Sr. was last year (you could also add Pitta here)? Will he improve pass protection allowing Flacco to make the pass? Will he boost the run game further increasing Flacco's chances of thriving in the pocket?

I believe the answer to all those questions is a resounding no. We need OL and edge rush WAY before WR. Belie' dat.

    Round 3 #2: ArDarius Stewart/Isaac Asiata/Desmond King

Idk. Me being upset has nothing to do really with Humphrey personally, I think he will be a good player. I guess its stemming from:

    1. Getting so freaking close to Barnett and Hooker.

    2. I really never took in the possibility that we would take a CB in the 1st, nor did I want to, as the class is so deep and there were bigger needs.

    3. I have been against drafting a TE the whole time, but I wouldn't have passed on OJ for Humphrey. He would be just as valuable as having Mike Williams on the team. I might've even taken Lamp over Humphrey, but I can see why we didn't I guess.

Other than that, the board didn't fall as favorably as I thought it would, especially after the first few picks. And I'm assuming there were no potential trade backs we liked so we were kind of in a sucky spot - right in the middle where there is no great value picks. Ill get over it soon enough, and I hope Humphrey lights it up and we have the best secondary in the NFL. But for now I'm pissed at the Eagles.

Initially I was pretty neutral on the pick, but I'm actually getting excited about him. If/when Jimmy goes down CB-position would be screwed - Marlon shores this up. Oz tried to trade up (possibly for Barnett, Hooker, etc.), but there were no takers. He considered trading down but the value wasn't there. We have so many TE's including a 2nd rounder from a couple years ago - the cream has to rise to the top there. IMO CB has been more critical for Ravens than TE lately.

First off. Bold. I like you, I really do. You're a great poster. And I actually agree with your first point. I think Mangold is a good move. Drafting a potential replacement is also smart. I also want Lewis to play RT. He really wasn't good at guard at all. But frankly. We need an oline. I know fans are hellbent on WRs... But that's not our problem. We don't only need to protect Joe, we need a line to get the run game going. I swear to god, if we do anything less than draft a good olinemen in the second round tomorrow, I'm going to go to the back of Boulder and sing to the high heavens as I die of alcohol poisoning.

I hate Ozzie's plan for the oline. In fact, it sucks. I hope to hell we trade up for Lamp, or hell I'll take his man crush Robinson. We need good play on the oline more than ANYTHING. I like the defense going forward, and I think there are potential sleepers at the WR position in the third round that no one is considering. BUt I would like to see us draft multiple olinemen in this draft. I hate Nembot(even though he's a Colorado boy... Sko Buffs), and I don't trust Wesley. We don't have a center, and Lewis honestly was terrible at LG.

Agree, they need to recreate the conditions present during the last Super Bowl run. Providing Joe with PROTECTION so he can actually deliver precise passes. His primary passing weapons we're:
    - Boldin (savvy, strong but slow), that's the type we need to find. Possibly vet FA acquisition, maybe the man himself.
    - Torrey Smith, Perriman will be 5-10x what Smith was/is + we have Wallace/Moore as well.
    - Pitta who's still on the roster + Williams has to start producing.. please (also Gilmore, Bouyle, Waller, Watson)
    - Raymondius Rice. I'm confident in a mixture of Dixon, West and Woodhead.

Also, the run game was good during the SB run, further relieving Joe of pressure - just a nice synergistic effect for the man under center.
He's never gonna be Aaron Rodgers, protection and running game is KEY for this offense - not WR with our top 3 picks.

Next 3 picks should be a mixture of pass rush and Oline imo.
Was Lewis really terrible? D'you think he'll do better at tackle?

The thing about Williams he catches the ball with such ease AWAY from his body and in traffic. Thats what the Ravens need. But I like Davis speed a lot and their body are similar. Jeremiah posted a video of Davis (because we don't know his true 40) but he outrace a CB (who ran a 4,4/4-5) and it was not even close. The Ravens also need a guy who can can separation and just get lots of yards from a simple Slant, hook or things like that. Most of the team, Ravens WR outside of Steve Smith couldnt break a tackle just like Antonio Brown or OBJ would do. I think right now Davis has the edge because he's a bit more dynamic.

I think there's reason to believe Breshad can be that guy. Can't wait to finally see him healthy and getting his shot next season. I think we'll be fine adding a JuJu/Kupp/Switzer-type WR. Besides, we have a ton of TE's and a couple RB's to throw to as well.

Doesn't matter how good the weapons are, Joe needs to deliver the ball to those weapons - if we're talking deep routes he needs time and comfort in the pocket.
That is not guaranteed with Hurst to his right and similar mediocrity at center.

If we stay put at 16 we should get the best rusher, likely Barnett who just seems like a very safe prospect who would step right in and contribute. Reddick could also be in play here. Otherwise try and trade back a handful of spots and bolster the offensive line. Build from the trenches ya'll.

I love the gold outline, but I liked it better back in the day when it was lighter and had a sheer to it, now it's a dull mustard color, if it was the old gold trim we had then those gold pants to match would've looked nice. I think our numbers definitely require an outline, these jerseys would look so odd without one. But I think those really uneven looking numbers like I mentioned above would look better without the shadow

I'll have to check out the old school uniforms - you mentioned year 2000?
    I agree with the "uneven-ness" - looks cartoon'ish in a way.

Has there been any talks of updating the uniforms, or is it just wishful thinking?

I like some of the font. 5, 3, and 6 look horrible in this font, but 1, 4, 7, and 8 look amazing. If they overhauled a few numbers to look more balanced(like 3 is too heavy on one side, 5 is real top heavy and 6 is real bottom heavy) that would be the best move imo, also lose the depth and brighter gold with the sparkle accent like they had back in 2000.

If we changed fonts completely, I'd like the broncos or the traditional style, but the traditional style would need a full uniform overhaul.

Hadn't thought of that, might be easier. The depth effect is definitely my biggest peeve, closely followed by the gold outline. I wouldn't be opposed to a major overhaul, I've grown a bit tired of the current look.

Denver's font is aight but I still prefer Pittburgh's.

  14. I'm definitely on board with matte helmets. I would also like to see them change the number font - those numbers are ugly imo (depth effect, gold framing.. ugh). I might get booed for this, but the number font on the Steelers' "standard" jerseys is very nice - clean and minimalistic.

PS. I liked the all purple color rush this past season, should be included in the rotation.

He did disappear from the stat sheet for like 4 weeks to close out the season.

I'm interested to see if this is simply a cost move or if there's actually some faith in Pierce/Henry to handle the 3T snaps.

Not to mention his propensity for bone headed penalties. Let's assume the FO knows more than we do, which is not really a stretch by any means.

  16. Cheers Rossi, I used a big board off of NFL.com - I'm too new to the game to do my own scouting.

I just HOPE AND PRAY Ozzie gets us some pass rush in rounds one or two. It's so frustrating watching opposing QB's having all day to throw!

  17. Based on draft boards around the internet, I felt like making a simple mock draft, with "multiple options".

    Here goes:

    Round 1, pick 16:

Taco Charlton (DE - Michigan)/Haason Reddick (LB - Temple)

I see pass rush as possibly the biggest need, and I don't see us signing anything in FA whereas there seems to be opportunities with regards to WR and CB.

    Round 2, pick 47:

Taylor Moton (T - Western Michigan)/JuJu Smith (WR - USC)

We know how important OL is, and I've heard good things about Moton on these boards. Some have likened him to Osemele coming out - not too shabby if that's the case. If we don't sign a Boldin/possesion-RZ WR in FA, we could also draft JuJu here for that purpose.

    Round 3, pick 78:

Sidney Jones (CB - Washington)/Cameron Sutton (CB - Tennessee)

I think we address CB in FA, and Jones's value is pretty darn good if he's here. If we want immediate help at CB, someone like Sutton could be an option here.

    Round 3, pick 99:

Nico Siragusa (G - SD State)/Rasul Douglas (CB - West Virginia)

We either continue to beef up the line or we double dip at CB. Also, Douglas could possibly switch to safety if needed.

    Round 4, pick 123:

Tyler Orlosky (C - West Virginia)/Anthony Walker (ILB - Northwestern)

We probably won't draft 3 OL's in the same draft, but depending on the earlier rounds in this draft Ozzie might decide to go with a C here. If not, we could use competition at ILB, were I think Correa might also be in the mix.

Honestly QB contracts alone are never really what takes up most of the cap space- it takes a good 6-7 second contracts to suck up all the cap space. But the Browns had like 20 rookies or something ridiculous like that on their roster last year, and rolled a ton of cap over from last year too.

    Just now, trevorsteadman said:

The Ravens always field a competitive team so they are always against the cap, while teams that have struggled for years and years have had that cap space roll onto the next year and the next year and the next year....

5 year 60mill for Zeitler, good god

How is it the Browns have +100 mill to spend, and the Ravens are always against the cap? Is it purely because they don't have an expensive franchise QB?

    19 minutes ago, PurpleHorseman said:

If we're not careful the browns will pull ahead of the ravens. New regime is commited

They're spending (recklessly) hoping that something will turn around their franchise. As long as their QB carousel is in full swing it seems unlikely that they will reign in the north.

    1 hour ago, PurpleHorseman said:

Yes and I heard chatter of hoping practice squad players step up and play. Build an elite line using your practice squadders?

You know there's a cap right? Money is tight in Baltimore as usual. I think we'd all love to acquire Marshall, Mangold, Zeitler, Jefferson and Claiborne whilst retaining B Will, Wagner and Juice. Heck, let's add Alshon and/or Pryor while we're at it.

Please just get a playmaker in the first, and one of CB and edge rush would be lovely! Same goes for the second round, we/Ozzie can't afford to continue whiffing on high picks.

Stanley, despite struggling with some injuries, played the part of a first rounder last year - although maybe not 6th overall?
KC - I sincerely hope he shows something this year, and Kaufusi hmm...
