  1. Chris Godwin was the answer. We passed on him twice in the 3rd, and he was taken by the Bucs 6 picks after we took Tim Williams.

I like the draft outside of the 3rd round, I think Humphrey is a ready to play class act, Tyus Bowser looks like a beast, even the O-lineman and safety picks. But to pass on a player as promising as Godwin twice, at a position of need, and take Tim Williams with all his off the field / character concerns...it feels like a risk we didn't need to take. Maybe he's a steal, who knows, but IMO one of those 3rd rd picks should have been Godwin.

    Cool.

Has nothing to do with my point. My point was to shatter these dumb exaggerations that people make without spending maybe 30 seconds to actually see if their dumb exaggerations have any substance or basis whatsoever.

We can play the game by game analysis all day long if we want to compare offense vs defense. We could look at the Pittsburgh game at the end of the year and you'd have a difficult time blaming the offense for not sustaining drives or leaving the defense out there too long, especially in the second half.

The only valid point here is that there were very few instances where both units played well at the same time.

If anyone is wondering why they're shutting the boards down it's because of vitriol like this.

  3. Our offense has underachieved for a long time. In the past several seasons, overall, we've had a solid defense which keeps us in games but our offense can't get anything going, can't control possession, and turns the ball over too quickly for the defense to have time to get a breather. Late game heroics after an entire game of wasted opportunities shouldn't somehow point the finger at the defense and absolve the offense for the first 50 minutes of play.

Once the Ravens actually have a contract signed by Mosley that keeps him here for "many, many, many years", then I'll believe it. But sadly, even with contracts these days nothing is guaranteed.

This. Just because John Harbaugh said it, and Ryan Mink writes an article doesn't mean it's true. Mosley could leave very easily especially with bloated contracts coming up soon and another Joe Flacco restructure/extension.

Well Perriman really played only one year and never had a full training camp yet.So if you don't want to judge Stanley yet, then let not judge Perriman yet.
Merryjman was right on point. How could you blame Ozzie? Point me some GMs who had done better than him. Ozzie only first rd bust recently was Elam.
How can you said Mosley is just good. 2X probawler in the last 3 yr. Also forget about the early rd picks or late rd picks. It is all about how many good starter who get from a draft. Ozzie and our staffs have been master in that domain. Give the man credit

I'm not the one judging those two, I'm suggesting both Stanley and Perriman are too early to tell having each only played one season. Go back and look at what I responded to.

"How can I said Mosley is just good?" Because he's a liability in coverage at times. In 2015 he was specifically targeted by QBs because he couldn't cover over the middle well. He's a good run stopping ILB with below avg coverage skills. He's a good pick. He could be great but he's not there yet. I didn't say he was a bust, I like him a lot and it was a good pick.

Don't use the pro bowl like it means something. Zuttah made the pro bowl this year.

Ozzie can't catch a break with you people sometimes:

--If he takes a gamble on a receiver and misses (Clayton) he was an idiot for trying.
--If he picks a solid, no-gamble starter (Stanley) he was an idiot for not trading up to get a more dynamic player like Bosa or Ramsey.
--If he trades out of the first round entirely to accumulate picks, he was an idiot for not staying put and getting round 1 talent.
--If he trades up to get a projected good talent (A Brown), he was an idiot for wasting it on someone we eventually waived and who never started.
--If he doesn't trade up, he was an idiot for it.
    --etc.

Isn't it more fair and more accurate to admit that drafting is really difficult, and subject to the same laws of probability as everything else? Ozzie gets love because ON AVERAGE he does better than a lot of other managers, not because he's infallible.

Best kicker in the league? Undrafted rookie. Our starting O-line? A 4th round pick and a 5th rounder in there. Osemele and Williams, late 2 / late 3 got so good we couldn't afford to keep them!

    --------

And this idea that Ozzie has been whiffing on first round picks lately is ludicrous.

-Stanley will be a perennial pro bowler if he stays healthy.
-Jimmy Smith was such an important part of our defense, we couldn't win without him.
-Perriman had a couple great catch-and-run plays just like Julio this season, so who's to say he's a bust at this point? Injuries are basically random.
-CJ Mosley is a seriously good player, and is only going to get better.
-Matt Elam sucks, no getting around that one. But everyone else in the league thought he was a great pick at #32, so what you gonna do?

Most of it is a crapshoot, I'll give you that, but we have not been drafting well for many years. Mosley and Jimmy were good but not great, they've both had their share of ups and downs.

Using Stanley as an example is trendy but shortsighted, he's played 1 year. Pump the brakes.

Perriman has proven nothing yet, he can't even consistently crack the starting lineup.

Flacco has to think to much, blame it on the coaches. Thats just plain BULL. They guy has to much money now to care. Trade or cut him. His poor passes, interceptions get the offence off the field after just three plays, other team scores, Flacco goes out for just three more plays and that cycle doesn't seem to end week for week. He just hasn't got it any more.
Look at Tom Brady or Big Ben. I don't care who's on the field with them, they fight every play to WIN. Flacco just walks off and gives you that "so what, who cars" look.
Bite the bullet and let him go!!!!!!!

    Thisssssss

He's good enough to be a starter in this league. If you swapped him and Dak Prescott right now he'd have a career year and likely win the superbowl. But his contract prevents him having the tools around him like Dallas has for Dak and he can't function without it. Something has to be done if we want to get back to a superbowl.

Picked up and dropped by other teams. CP. (Can't Play)

That's the only criteria? Or are you just being a troll? Forsett struggled to get playing time. He gave us some good production. There are tons of examples of players who take longer to develop.

Just because someone didn't get the opportunity or was buried on a depth chart doesn't mean they can't play. He outperformed most receivers in the league in preseason, we just weren't willing to keep him bc of vets and draft picks we already had at the position.

The Ravens let another WR slip through their hands only to land with their biggest foe, The NE Patriots. They could have moved quickly and picked up Micheal Floyd who could end up to be a huge gem covered in coal, if he can work on it and the coal can be chipped off. I don't understand knowing that SS Sr. was leaving why they didn't make a move on Floyd.

Ravens value draft picks more than most teams, and as a major way you rebuild your team they couldn't spend picks on that position

We are still hesitant to tolerate troubled players

He's a FA after this season

I don't disagree, it would have been nice and he's a talented receiver who could have helped us, it would have made sense, but those are some of the big reasons why we didn't.

  10. Joe's contract is holding the Ravens back.

He's never had consistency nor the big play receivers his arm deserves, that is all true, but when you're paid like you're a top 5 QB you need to be able to make it happen with less and Joe simply can't. His contract prevents them from putting the pieces in play around him he needs. If you need those things you shouldn't get the contract he got. Twice.

The consistency with which we threw a short pass on 3rd and long, not even just this year is infuriating. The receiving corps need to be better; running better routes and making more plays (Aiken, a possession receiver has a sub-60% catch rate the past 2 seasons complaining why he isn't getting the ball). The offensive line can't give him enough time and keep him clean, and he's paid too much to fix any of it in a meaningful way.

Don't give up on Perriman just yet. Essentially he is a rookie, still learning. He may come back to haunt us. The question is why can't Ozzie select a quality wide receiver. We have so many TE's on the roster and are not being used or properly used. When was the last time the Ravens used three wide receivers to spread the field. I say this again and again, coaching.

Reading comprehension...None of what I said was a praise of anything Perriman did. I simply gave credit for the interceptions where it was due - Joe. Perriman had nothing to do with them. He underthrew the first badly and sailed the second deep into the secondary about 5 feet over the head of the WR. No WR could have fixed that. The fact that it was Perriman he was throwing to is irrelevant which is why I took issue with the original statement.

When was the last time we used 3 WR? All the time. Where have you been? Last Sunday, the Sunday before that, in fact the only week during the NFL regular season you won't see us put a 3 WR set out there will be this week. I wonder if you can figure out why.

Had Perriman run a crisper route on the first, maybe Jets cornerback Buster Skrine wouldn’t have undercut it. Had he reached out to tip a pass that floated over his head, maybe Jets safety Marcus Gilchrist wouldn’t have picked it off.

Who knows? Maybe not. But those questions bothered Perriman.

Those questions should bother him because they aren't fair questions, both of those interceptions were just terrible throws by a QB who was gunshy all day.

Why would anyone even implicate Perriman in either interception? All Joe.
