Taquan Mizzell can catch the ball pretty well apparently, so that's kind of like drafting a WR?
Just now, allblackraven said:Maybe Ozzie now trades a future pick to come back and take WR like he did with Camp?
I was just thinking about that. Some of the guys left would be pretty great value.
Just now, rossihunter2 said:eluemunor was a great pick - chuck clark ill agree was underwhelming
Yeah I can't say I'm mad about Eluemunor, people expected him to go a little higher cause he has potential and we needed O-line
From NFL.com of Chuck Clark:
"I guess you like him more than me because I think he's JAG (just a guy). He's instinctive but what else? I don't see anything special. To me, he's a backup who will always be looking over his shoulder for his roster spot." -- NFC Director of Player Personnel
I don't know who's puppy Clark kicked but they certainly aren't a fan of him.
Some of the receivers left on the board would have been wildly good value at that pick and we took another DB instead. I'm genuinely starting to wonder if the FO knows we have to field an offense at some point.
I bet if we go offense it'll be a RB
As long as we never have to play on offense we'll be the best team in the NFL

Might've been to get in front of the Jets now that I'm looking at it

Yeah it's not an important measure for a DE, but I meant more that guys who tested really well (like Reddick) will jump ahead of Bernett. Most years there's a team that reaches on an athletic guy.

I can dream
8 hours ago, PurpleHorseman said:Here's the thing with Barnett's 40 time. It was what everybody thought he would run. 4.8-5.0 range. It's not like Suggs at all where his 4.80 shocked everybody. He is thought of as a try hard who happens to have pro level technique where his technique is light years ahead. Even then it is not like he is one of those edge rushers that can jump in the backfield in a blink when a big play is needed. He worked and worked and set up lineman for an eventual sack opportunity. And won with pro level technique against tackles that have a lot to learn before starting in the NFL. If he is the player everybody wants he will be Available at pick 16. Teams want defensive players with game changer traits in top15 picks.
I think what I meant to say was that Barnett put up solid numbers but didn't over perform, but some guys that showed surprising athleticism (Ross, Reddick) will have teams reaching like every year, leaving a guy like Barnett to fall slightly.
I tried.
1. Browns - Myles Garrett DE - The Browns try their hardest to not mess this one up.
2. 49'ers - Jamal Adams S
3. Bears - Soloman Thomas DE
4. Jags - Leonard Fournette RB - Apparently me and every guy at nfl.com agree.
5. Titans - Malik Hooker S
6. Jets - Deshaun Watson QB
7. Chargers - Marshon Lattimore CB
8. Panthers - Jonathan Allen DT
9. Bengals - Reuben Foster LB
10. Bills - Mike Williams WR
11. Saints - John Ross WR - He jumps up boards cause of that 40.
12. Browns - Mitch Trubisky QB - Pretty standard picks at #1 and #12 as of late, but they do answer most of the Browns' problems outside of the curse that's on their franchise.
13. Cardinals - Ryan Ramczyk - Some reaches on O-line like always.
14. Eagles - O.J. Howard
15. Colts - Haason Reddick - His impressive workouts push him up, and someone puts too much stock in Derek Barnett's slow 40 times. I know it seems unlikely, but some of the monster workouts and load of great skill position players in the draft let this happen:
16. Ravens - Derek Barnett DE

Barnett falls because scouts will see issues with athleticism, but the Ravens will have zero concerns. It's a flashback to 2003, and the team grabs a potential Suggs 2.0.
47. JuJu Smith-Schuster WR
His tape shows a strong guy with some speed, and most importantly good hands. I think he's the type of WR we're looking for and can give Joe a reliable pass catcher.

74. Ahkello Witherspoon
There are real concerns about his physicality on the field, and that makes him slide, because if it weren't for that I'd actually have Witherspoon in the mid-2nd. If that doesn't become an issue though, we get a very good defensive back with some serious length, speed, and room to grow.

78. Will Holden RT
This might seem like a reach, but the guy was a 3.5 year starter at left tackle, and his athleticism issues wouldn't be as glaring at RT. We've done alright developing linemen we've drafted recently, and I think we can make him a starter on the OL.

Jabrill Peppers
Chidobe Awuzie
T.J. Watt
JuJu Smith-Schuster
Jordan Willis
Cooper Kupp
Charles Harris
In no particular order
Does anyone think we could go for Jordan Willis? He'd have to convert from DE to OLB for us, but watching some tape of his he looks like he has good hands and a great motor. Converting might be pain but he has the right size, and the only question mark I had about him was whether he could cover any.

Oh god that clip was way too on point
As much as we need OL and WR, I think for at least our first 3 picks there will likely be a DB or Edge guy at our spot who's great value. There's so many good guys are those positions in this draft that we'd likely be skipping over a guy who's the BPA to either overdraft an O-lineman (since the position's so thin) or draft a WR who might not be the best player on the board.
While I'd like for the draft to be the answer to our problems, I think it's likely that the board doesn't shake out that way at all.
Not to be that guy, but considering how exceptional Howard is in his athleticism and catching, do you think a team might view him as a potential WR? I figured if so then that might increase his stock.
23 minutes ago, ravensnation5220 said:Was the draft grade different back then???? Cause Myles Garrett has a 7.6 grade. How did Smith get and 8.08, I haven't seen one that high in a while on nfl.com
Yeah the scale changed a few years back
5 hours ago, rossihunter2 said:i mean what do you want from him? he cant fill every hole with the limited cap space we have - if im honest im surprised we got all the guys we have already - if you'd have told me that we'd lose every major home-grown free agent including brandon williams and not brought in any major signings in free agency i would not have even been close to surprised especially given how close to the cap we were - the fact that we have all these "new toys" is crazy given where we started the off season
what do you want him to do? the olinemen in free agency werent particularly good and all got overpaid and picked off by teams with too much cap space like circling vultures - we couldnt compete in the wide receiver market - what would you have had him do in stead? pay dj fluker or riley reiff - no thanks...
That's kind of what I thought. The market just wasn't quite there for offense (though personally I would like to have kept Wagner over Williams but I know money isn't the only factor in FA) and if Ozzie HAD signed some of those guys that weren't quite good enough to the contracts they were demanding, we'd just be here next year complaining about FA busts.
I don't know about cutting Zuttah now. Considering how few linemen are left on the marker, I don't know if we can find an upgrade there or get anyone to produce for cheaper. Now we've got 2 holes on the O-line and a relatively weak O-line class in the draft which seems like trouble.
Does anyone think we'll look at guys like Zach Brown//Kevin Minter to try and fill the hole at ILB? (Maybe Tony Jefferson can give Minter whatever speech we gave him).
I didn't want them to pay BWill either, but I started thinking that maybe I'm looking at his role on the team in the wrong way. He doesn't rush the passer, but he does take on doubles teams and clear up space for others, and we know how he is against the run. We have to wait and see, but it could turn out to be great for our D.
44 minutes ago, JoeyFlex5 said:All the cap they have, they know they aren't in it this year, they take the cap hit, tank for another year as expected, and they have 26 picks in the next 2 drafts.
this was the most brilliant piece of team managing I've seen as far as I can recall
The move is high risk/high reward. They probably are trading for Garoppolo, and if they use that 2nd on him, he might cost them something like a 1st and a pair of 2nd's (one of which they essentially bought for $16M). If he plays well, it's a good move. If not, they not only lost the picks but got themselves into some dead money as well.
Are there any other tackles/guards of note left?

I think maybe the most important thing about getting Bowser and Williams might be the depth we have now. Between them, Suggs, and Judon we look like we've always got a backup plan at a few positions and we don't have to play anyone in a role we don't feel comfortable putting them in.
