...and I do not like how YOU are just ASSUMING that this year's draft will be another waste...this notion that this organization cannot draft anymore is ridiculous.  They added about 5 or 6 big time contributors to the roster through this past draft or UDFA (Stanley, Lewis, Young, Dixon, Judon, Pierce) and another in Chris Moore who has some tremendous contributions to special teams.  Young and Pierce all season long graded out near the top of list of rookies and Stanley when he finally got healthy was one of the top left tackles in all of football over the last half of the season, yes all of football.  Do me a favor go back to the 2013 draft and look at alll the busts that came out of that first round along with M Elam.  It all adds up, have we missed on some of our higher picks, yes we have but so have alot of other great drafting organizations...but we have hit on a ton of 3-6 rounders that have become big time contributors

To say welp, here comes another wasted draft this year  because we didn't fire Ozzie Newsome, is very baltimoronical of you.

Very well said!  Not to mention Kaufusi didn't even have a chance to play this year.  Who knows?  Maybe he turns out to be a really good player too.

Ozzie is getting WAAAY too much criticism for what are basically 2 big busts--Elam and Arthur Brown.  Despite having a couple early round misses, Ozzie is awesome at finding quality players THROUGHOUT the draft.  I think that's where Ozzie excels.  He finds some gems in mid-late rounds and undrafted free agents (Lewis, Young, Dixon, Judon, and Pierce are all prime examples just from this year)

  2. Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread specifically for reactions to the End of Season Press Conference that just occurred.  I know there has been some talk of this in the "State of the Ravens" thread, but the thread is muddled with some people talking specifically about the presser and some talking more in general.  What are everyone's thoughts that have had a chance to watch it?   I am refraining from my thoughts for now since I only saw a couple pieces of it.  I will have to go back and watch it.

  3. Took another shot. And crazily, this time Myles Garrett fell and I was able to trade our 1st, 2nd, and 4th for him without giving up any future picks.  Probably shows how unrealistic this site is, but it is fun to play around with

Surprised that Mike Wallace ($5.75 million savings), Ben Watson ($3 million) & Shareece Wright ($ 2.6 million) were not mentioned.

Left up to me, I cut

    Wallace
    Watson
    Wright
    Zuttah
    Arrington
    Dumerville
    Lewis

Take that $23 million in cap space and resign BWill ($6-7 million) & Wagner ($5-6 million) and then sign a quality FA WR that can run routes and catch the ball like Garcon or Britt ($7-$8 million).

Restructure Pitta & Webb and sign CB Prince Akumara ($8 million)

Use your 1st Round pick on one of the top CB or DE Solomon Davis or WR Corey Davis.

Use your 2nd Round Pick on whichever top CB falls in the 2nd Round - King/Lewis/White or WR JuJu.

Use your 3rd Round on S Budda Baker or S Marcus Williams.

Rest of the picks use to upgrade C, RB, G, future QB.

For the most part, I agree with your cuts, with the exception of Wallace.  While 5.75 million is a nice savings, I think that would leave us too thin at WR, and we know our record with drafting WR.  I would like to see us sign a free agent possession WR, then retain Williams.  That would leave us with FA WR, Wallace, and Perriman most likely as the top 3 with Campanaro and Moore competing for backup roles and playing time.  Wouldn't mind adding a mid-round WR either and hoping for the best.  Bottom line is Wallace is a solid not great WR and I don't think we can afford to let him go with the depth or lack thereof that we currently have.

As far as the draft and free agents potentially available, I haven't studied specific names/projected rounds/projected costs for FA, etc.  I would like to see a potential impact pass rusher and corner either from draft and/or FA.

    Walter Football has us going

RD1: Malik McDowell, DE/DT, Michigan State

    RD2: Christian McCaffrey, RB/WR, Stanford

    RD3: Amara Darboh, WR, Michigan

    RD4: Hasson Reddick, DE/OLB, Temple

This happens and Tim Williams is still on the board in the second after we pick and Carl Lawson is on the board after our third pick. Thoughts?

I"ll be honest...I haven't even began to analyze who's out there and who might get drafted where, etc.  But--No corners or safeties in the first 4 rounds?  In the first 4 rounds, my hope is for an impact pass rusher, an impact corner, and 2-3 other potential players (using BPA so not specific positions--although I could name a few positions I would prefer--oline, safety, another CB or pass rusher, etc)  Wouldn't mind seeing WR either, but with our track record of WRs, I think I would rather see us bring in a FA or 2 there (although wouldn't mind taking a shot a WR in rounds 4-6 though)

I did say "Great!" (as in good to hear) followed by a little humor that I'm sorry about if it hurt your feelings.

No hard feelings.  I think I was just tired of reading all of the negative comments on the board as a whole, so was a bit frustrated to see that in the "Positive thread"  I get the humor--Just was surrounded by too much negativity on these boards at the time.

I was the one who negged it.  I thought it came across as very negative in a post that is titled Positive Perspective.  I know how this season ended was disappointing, but my point of the post was that it was not a serious injury for Mosley.  I thought this comment by @Rav'n Maniac was a little negative, so I negged it.

  9. Legit question for everyone that follows and tracks this stuff.  Where do you wee Iowa's Desmond King going in the draft?  Do you think this is someone the Ravens might target.

I have not followed college football much this year.  I am a huge Iowa Hawkeyes fan, so obviously my opinion of King is probably inflated.  Curious as to what others out there think of him.  On the Outback Bowl broadcast, they said someone (not sure who) had him rated as the 7th ranked CB in the draft.  Any chance he could be around for Round 2 for us?

He's a rookie, it's been an awesome first year, we need to to get another starting calibre corner and we will have a top tier group when healthy

Can't believe we're sitting here saying we need another corner again, wake the hell up front office/ Harbs - shareece, powers, Arrington aren't the answers

I know it's frustrating, but good corners are hard to find. There are plenty of other teams out there that are surely saying the same thing. That being said, out search for another starting caliber corner should be at the top of our wish list

Pees is on the hot seat IMO if Harbaugh is. I don't see the team keeping Pees and letting go of Harbaugh. The theme of blowing 4th QTR leads is getting ridiculous. Defense still can't close and I don't know how much longer Biscotti can tolerate that for.

If Harbaugh is fired, no coach is safe because a new coach probably would want to bring in his guys.

I personally think (with zero inside knowledge) Harbaugh and Pees are safe for one more year. This defense was pretty darn good this year when healthy. Find another corner and pass rusher and I think this D could be scary good.

With 2017 being John's last year of his contract, I highly doubt he will play out a lame duck year. Neither he nor the ravens will want that.

    This leaves 2 options.

    1. He's fired or leaves

    2. He's extended

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Personally i think both coordinators need to go, and when changing everything, a head coach change now might just be the correct time.

    What says you?

Disagree with this. I say bring him back on the "lame duck" deal. If he proves himself, he gets paid (no salary cap for coaches). If he dowsn't and misses playoffs again, THEN you bring in a new guy. Worked out pretty well for us when Flacco was in a 1 yeaf "prove it" situation. Now it's Harb's turn!

I agree Marty needs to go, but Pees had a topped rank defense when it was healthy. We meed another solid # 2 corner and another pass rusher. Imagine if we had Jimmy plus another solid #2 (or #1) corner with Tavon going to his natural slot corner role. If we lose Jimmy or the other CB we have seen Tavon can hold up.

I know us as fans hate the steelers but bell is a stud. I do agree that our game plan against him helps us contain him but I'm for sure worried about him every time we play him.

I agree. I especialy think that's true today because it is going to take every defensive scheme possible to shut down Brown---so got to be super careful not to forget about Bell. You know Bell and Brown are going to want redemption after that first game vs us this year.

harbaugh not disclosing the injury, doesnt mean its some day-to-day thing. you all saw the injury, that is a severe high ankle sprain. IF jimmy comes back at any point this season, the absolute earliest he could do it would likely be the AFC championship game, and without him on the field we likely dont have a shot at getting there. and if the stars align and he does come back, he would likely be hobbled as hell. and honestly, to be more realistic, that would be an extremely optimistic expectation, based on usual evaluations of high ankle sprains he would be in playing shape during the bye week between the AFCCG and the SB, and playing shape is an exaggeration.

dont drive yourselves crazy searching the interwebz for news about jimmy coming back, you likely wont be finding any good news.

You never know. If we can win these next 2 @ Steelers and @ Bengals, it is possible to have 2 playoff games vs backup QBs before the AFC Championship game (Miami, Oakland). I do think if that is our path, we have a chance to beat Miami and Oakland without Jimmy. IMO this game vs the Steelers will be a bigger test than those potential playoff matches

With dipping ratings, the NFL should schedule these games as one of the Thanksgiving games and then always set it as the last Monday night game week 17.

I get your point, but there are is no Monday night game Week 17. (probably because the playoffs start Saturday and that would be an even shorter week)  The Sunday night game for Week 17 is a game that can be flexed on 6 days notice to guarantee it has playoff implications.
