I don't think they want to move Lewis to T.  They said they view him as a G going forward.  He might be the emergency option at T, but it seems like they want to commit to him and Stanley on the left side.

I agree.  A lot of fans on here seem to be ignoring all of the comments from the Ravens.  I originally guessed that he would be the Ravens preferred option at RT as well, but that is not what the Ravens are saying.  It sounds most likely that he will be our LG for years to come.  Of course, RT is always a possibility if they determine he is the best fit (like you said in an emergency), but I look for them to fill the RT void with someone else, assuming Wagner leaves....I have no clue who that "someone else" might be, but I fully expect to see Lewis as our starting LG next year.

C'mon, man. You really think Brady would take a pay cut out of the goodness of his heart or for the betterment of the team? This is the Patriots, after all. Perhaps not all of Shady Brady's compensation is counted in the cap:

Wow!  How many ways can the Patriots cheat?  And the sad part is, the NFL is helping cover it up!

I believe Maxx set rookie records for Raven TE's. Hes going to be a good one. We dont need Watson. Pitta is too productive to let go. With Wallace we need to renegotiate his contract and keep him for 3 or 4 years.

I agree that Watson is the TE I would let go.  Too many questions marks for that old of a TE coming off of an Achilles injury.  I love the POTENTIAL of all 3 of our young TEs--Maxx, Crockett, Boyle, and Waller...all have their question marks, but anyone of them could step up and be big playmakers.  I say try to bring back Pitta on a more team-friendly deal and let these guys compete.

Wallace in my opinion is a tough call for the Ravens.  He is our most proven WR, but showed signs of decline towards the end of the season and $8 million cap hit this year is pretty big (save $5.75 million if we cut him)  However, I'm not sure I'd extend him for 3-4 years because I think it is very possible his play starts to decline and we would be stuck with another bad contract or facing a lot of dead money with cut, etc...I think we pay him this year or sign him to a modest 1 year extension.  If we had someone more reliable behind him, I think he might be a cap casualty, but we don't.

Here's a list of who we've talked to:

Tuesday - Jordan Sterns, S, OK St. // Taywan Taylor, WR, WKU // Justin Senior, OT, Miss St. // Corey Clement, RB, Wisc.

Wednesday - Tarell Basham, EDGE, Ohio // Jeremy Sprinkle, TE, Ark. // Ethan Pocic, OC, LSU // Eddie Vanderdoes, DT, UCLA

Thursday - Jordan Morgan, G, Kutztown

Out of curiosity, where are you getting this list?  Also--Didn't Desmond King say he talked with the Ravens and he thought the Ravens would be a good fit for him????

Aging, rotting roster filled with high-priced vets past their primes. No top shelf talent to speak of. Let's see if we can break the streak of 7 bad drafts.

I think this is a bit harsh.  Have we had some big misses? (Elam, Brown, etc) YES....MOST experts say we had an EXCELLENT draft last year.  Stanley, Young, Dixon, Lewis, and Judon were all key contributors.  Jury is still out on guys like Correa, Kaufusi, Moore, Henry, etc.

  7. Interesting...on the Colts page on ESPN, there is no mention of DeCosta when discussing GM candidates:

Don't you think a part of this is a function of receivers not getting YAC?  Seems Pittta was sliding, falling on pretty much every ball he caught. While I recall Wallace sometimes running downfield, can't remember Smitty getting much. Don't get me wrong, I know Joe was part of the problem, but seems it was exasperated by lack of YAC.

I know I must be missing something here, but don't see why team average yardage of pass doesn't equal team average yards of reception. Also interesting that opponents average was 6.8 yds(?).

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/team/stats/_/name/bal/baltimore-ravens

I think the average yardage per pass includes incompletions and completions.  Avg. yardage per RECEPTION only counts completed passes.

I agree  to certain agree since The Ravens depth at outside corner is lacking but they do need a  young talented  safety to groom and probably more depth a nickel corner as well since Powers may not be re-signed.

My dream scenario is snagging one of the top corners in the first (lattimore, jones, wilson, etc.), then King falling to our 2nd round pick. (I am very biased on King because I am a huge Hawkeyes fan) Talk about a boost to our secondary!  Jimmy and first round pick on the outside, Tavon in the slot.  Then, King would either replace Webb (if we cut him, which I am hopeful we can retain him on a more team-friendly deal) or be very quality backup at CB and S.  I know we have other needs, but secondary has been the area that has let this team down the most over the last few years.  I think this is the draft to go hard and address that area.

With jimmy and lattimore Julio would have nowhere to go for a mismatch.

Our run defense would shut down their run game assuming we aren't in late season meltdown mode.

Davis wouldn't nullify their pass rush.

I agree with you.  I really want us to focus on the secondary.  Yes, a good pass rush is very helpful, but we saw the difference in our D with and without Jimmy.  In my ideal world, we get 1 of the top-notch corners (Lattimore, Wilson, Jones, etc...haven't analyzed them to know who I prefer), then Desmond King slips to our second pick (I suspect his combine numbers will not blow anybody away, but love his playmaking ability)  I think King could play either CB or FS (could be a replacement for Webb down the line or this year if the FO is ready to move on...but I hope they keep Webb)  Secondary is the number one thing that has been holding this defense back the last several years, and I think this might be the draft to "double-down" on secondary.

  13. This is my dream scenario for the first 2 rounds..top corner in round 1....Wilson, Lattimore, Jones, etc. then Desmond King slips to Rd. 2 for us...I think he could possibly be a quality corner and potentially an all-pro free safety (granted, I am extremely biased since I am a huge Hawkeyes fan because I grew up in Iowa)

I'm not gonna go back and watch film just to break my heart lol. But I do remember KOs first year. He showed flashes of greatness and flashes of a lost rookie. Lewis didn't jump off my screen as often but also made less mistakes. Maybe it's because KO played a lot of LT as a rookie.

but we can both agree on this. Lewis far exceeded expectations of a 4th rounder and it seems like the sky is his limit. I look forward to him making another leap in his development and hope he stays a Raven for a long time.

Thanks for the insight.  I honestly couldn't remember KO's play as a rookie.  I don't have the time or football knowledge to accurately dissect individual play, so I enjoy coming on here and getting people's insight into these things.  Regardless of comparisons to KO, I am very excited for Lewis' potential.  I am really hopeful that Stanley and Lewis become an above average to dominant left side of the line for us for years to come.  Obviously, I am jumping the gun here--not saying that WILL happen, but am hopeful that it will happen.

  16. Took my shot on FanSpeak---I would be ecstatic if these were our first 2 picks.  Also-if I could have done trades--TJ Watt went late second round and I would have been doing everything I could to snag him.

    * In the second round I believe we could package our third round picks to move back back into the second round if a particular player was still lingering in the middle of the round that we really wanted.

    image.jpeg

In this scenario I have us taking Desmond King. Some have him as a top 5 corner, while other don't even have him in their top 50 prospects list. I don't think he will have a great 40, perhaps in the 4.6 range. I don't think his measurements will blow anyone away either, so many might pass him by for other CBs. I think we see a ton of value if he is hanging around pick 50 and we take him. He could become a premier corner still or better yet, our future FS. He has great instincts, ball skills, works well in zone coverage and plays the run with an edge. Either way we turn can off our TVs happier than can be on day 2.😈

I would love this scenario!  First, I will say I am completely biased on King because I am a HUGE Iowa Hawkeyes fan! (I grew up in Iowa)  I agree that he does not have the best measurements, but he is a PLAYMAKER.  I would love it if he slipped down the board and we were able to get him late second round.  I probably am in the minority here, but I would be stoked if we got a premier corner in the 1st (Jones, Wilson, Lattimore, etc.--I haven't done enough research to know who I would like there), then King was still around in the 2nd (either at our 2nd or trading back into later in the second round).  What a boost for our secondary that would be.  I know our pass rush struggled, but bottom line, our defense was pretty darn good when we had Jimmy and Tavon.  Imagine Jimmy, (Jones/Wilson/Lattimore) on the outside, with Tavon Young in the slot, add in King for depth at CB/FS.  We keep saying you can never have enough secondary players and I think this draft may be our chance to put our money where our mouth is and go and get a couple quality secondary players!

That's what I was thinking in reference to Wagner. He's not a mauler, he does a good, no great job at containing his blocks but he's not a mauler in the run game.

Another mauler would be Kelechi Osemele, who I feel like we miss here. Lewis has done a solid job at filling in at LG but he isn't as physical as KO, in the pass or run. We need a mauler here, guys who'll push guys around and bring a strong physical front, that start with Zuttah and replacing him, but I don't know if we stop there or keep going with changes.

While I agree with you that we miss KO and Lewis wasn't as good as KO, I think we are not giving Lewis enough credit.  He was a 4th round pick in his rookie year.  I haven't went back and compared, but if we compared KO year 1 vs. Lewis year 1, my guess is that they would be pretty comparable (anyone feel free to chime in here if they have actually reviewed tape to compare).  I am hopeful that Lewis turns into a KO-type player, but that is yet to be seen.  I was happy with what I saw from him (Lewis) and hope he continues to progress next year.  We have him on a rookie contract and if he continues to progress, we are going to have one heck of a value at LG for a few years!

I probably over reacted with the statement cause a great secondary is a boon to every team. But we won't be able to get very far if we can't rush the passer as was shown this weekend great corners can't cover forever, and offense has become such a focal point in terms of success

It's definitely a tough debate about which is more important: pass rush or secondary.  In reality, it is impossible to separate the 2 because they rely on each other.  Personally, I would rather invest in another good CB over pass rusher.  I think we have a pretty good sample about what our team looks like with 2 quality outside corners vs. 1 (even with our inconsistent pass rush)  Unless our pass rush drastically improves (which I am not sure would happen by the addition of just 1 player), I feel upgrading CB is a much safer route to go with us.  I feel if we had 1 more quality outside CB, we would be in the playoffs and ready to give NE/Pitt/anybody else one heck of a game.

After watching these playoffs I'm thinking great corners don't mean much anymore with how these qbs can throw it. Pass rush is still evident but I would almost rather focus our attention on offense and let flacco do what these guys are doing. Give him a Mike Williams or Corey Davis and a stable offensive line and I think we should see major improvement in our offense

I respectfully disagree with this statement after seeing the Ravens with Jimmy and without Jimmy.  Obviously pass rush helps the secondary, but when we had Jimmy and Tavon out there as our corners, we were pretty darn good.  Imagine Jimmy and another good corner on the outside with Tavon sliding to his natural nickelback position...then if Jimmy or the other CB gets hurt, we know Tavon can slide up to outside corner.  This year when Jimmy was out, we had nobody we could rely on on the outside opposite of Tavon.

  21. If Webb was smart, he'd renegotiate a more cap-friendly deal to help both sides.

If Perriman and Moore were smart, they'd spend a LOT of times on the JUGS machine and workng out with Flacco to get their timing

If Flacco was smart, he would spend time gaining chemistry with receivers and focusing on his fundamentals; footwork, etc.

If Lewis was smart, he'd watch a lot of tape of Yanda and learn how to become a dominant guard.

If West and Dixon were smart, they'd work their butts off this offseason to prove they deserve more carries (since it's pretty much been said that we want to bring in another running back)

If Reynolds was smart, he should spend a lot of time fielding punts and kickoffs to show he is ready to be a returner next year.

IF Waller was smart, he'd work on his blocking and watching tape of premier TEs to learn intricacies of running better routes, etc.

release doom and pitta, try to cut and re-sign webb. let wagner walk since hes rumored to be seeking 10m a year. right price only for bwill.

move alex lewis to RT. commit to bolstering the interior through the draft, trade back and take a dan feeney or quenton nelson, or hope to land forrest lamp or dorian johnson in the 3rd. make a strong push for JC tretter in FA, hope for guillermo to fall to you in the 3rd.

make a push for vincent jackson to be a big bodied dependable veteran, thats the kind of FA signing flacco has done very well with. then make a push for either robert woods or kenny britt, do you think perriman is legit? then go for robert woods who is the cheaper less risky options. do you think you desperately need a #1 and playmaker because perriman isnt the guy? go for kenny britt.

thats a general outline id like to see for our free agency.

I for the most part agree with you; although I might try to re-negotiate a deal/seek a paycut with Pitta before outright releasing him due to his chemistry with Flacco--but, we can't afford him back in my opinion on his current deal--so if he doesn't do that, then he's gone--much like Webb I believe.

My gut has always been to move Lewis to RT too, but it seems like the Ravens are not interested in that--there have been many comments by Harbaugh and others that they see Lewis as a guard.  I still think you can't overpay Wagner, so that means probably looking for a quality RT in the draft.

I definitely think we need another WR as well and I would be happy with any of those 3 names-Jackson, Woods, or Britt--depending on price.

I think those are the realistic things I would like to see in free agency--of course if a C, CB, S, or pass rusher suddenly come avaiable at the right price (not likely) I would love to upgrade there.
