Marshall would have been a great fit 2 years ago when we were still serious contenders. We are now in aged-veteran and salary-dump mode. We completely lack any kind of top-5 blue chip talent (aside from Weddle and Yanda). There are way too many holes to fill and so Marshall won't be the player to take us over the top. At age 33, I'd pass.

I know that average means mediocre but I do not think 10-6,11-7 is an improvable improvement form 8-8. I think I have the same feelings .,he just had his worse year ever and I do expect some improvement from him.

It's more than just hindsight here with Flacco and his salary.

First, people are forgetting that two very important things happened that altered the success of the Ravens the following year. (1) Ray Rice was expelled from the league - we lost our pro-bowl caliber RB so there went our run game that we were so dependent on the previous year and (2) Boldin was offered a contract according to the value the Ravens deemed he deserved, as such he refused and ultimately was traded. Then (3) Pitta went out with a broken hip. So while we want to say Flacco hasn't lived up to his contract the truth of the matter the entire team failed to live up to their expectations.

I really wish people would stop with the Flacco bs; In 2014 Ngata's cap hit was $14 million - did he produce at $14 million - NO!!!! Is that Flacco's fault, NO!!! IN 2015 Ngata's cap hit was $7.5 million and he was playing for Detroit!!!! Flacco's fault, NOPE!!

IN 2014 Ray Rice's Cap hit was $6 million and in 2015 his cap hit was $9 million - paid him $15 million to not even play!!!! Is that Flacco's fault, NO!!!!

There is so much more going on with this team than just Flacco and his contract.

I wish you put Ngata's cap hit in bold print. I would be willing to bet that more than half of these haters don't know that his hit was greater than Flacco's

This "failed completion" is exactly the type of stat I have been looking for. For a QB, sure just completions will do. But you could do the same type of stat for the offense and for the defense. Just apply the same percentages for rushing. Then it's a measure of "effectiveness per yards needed."

1st down: Offensively, did you gain 45% or more of the yards needed for a first down. Defensively, did you allow less than 45% of the yards needed?

Same calculation all the way down the chart.

You could have subsets of data and it would give you information of who is really good on 1st down, how well those plays set you up for the next downs, how often do you even get to third down or do you convert early, do you suck on third down but kick butt on 3rd, measure of how effective the bend but don't break method is, etc. There is so much valuable data there.

Sounds like a good 'fantasy football' stat

Romo got paid the #1 salary and he didn't even play! lol so whats your point Swift.
Joe's cap was re-negotiated his salary is constant his cap hit goes up. He knows that the Playoffs and a SB run is what the Ravens goal is and why the cap was structured the way it was. I expect to see the playoffs this year coming, i think Joe will come out swinging.

I think you need to look around the team a bit more. No one is more committed and Joe has already negotiated.
I also think he would be willing to do just about anything to make the team work better, but you better be prepared to hold every player accountable.

Big Cat I sure did not make my point I thought I was defending Joe . I actually pulled this post because others answered better than me..

That is what we have with Dean Pees.... bend but don't break philosophy. We give up a ton of yards and let them move up and down the field on us (limiting our offense and wearing down our defense)...
Bend but don't break (until the 4th quarter with the game on the line). Our defense is worn out and we give up the game winning score and scratch our heads some more - wondering why we are always so close but always seem to drop games that we should have won!
    SMH

I swear in my alternate universe we beat the Browns twice last year again. In my dream I attended one of the games but missed the go ahead td because I was in the head.

I don't know why but our drafting has on the decline overall since Harbs became HC. The problem I have is the only variable in the entire process of front office, scouts and coaches has beenJohn Harbaugh. Stay out of the draft process John. Let Ozzie, Eric and Hortiz give you and the coaches the players. You stick to coaching and we'll all be good.

It couldn't be because we were in playoffs five of six years and drafted late?

I'm excited for these changes, I just hope we put in a bid for future Super Bowls starting in 2022(Currently, Super Bowl Locations are set through 2021), maybe Bowl Games(don't know how NCAA selects bowl games locations), or other major sporting events not counting concerts. I know we don't have a roof and not a major market like NY/NJ but more cold weather cities need to host Super Bowls. Would hope these changes would satisfy the NFL with consideration to bringing a Super Bowl to Baltimore. I imagine though hotels and transportation may be an issue that would be a road block.

Do I have to go on my annual rant? Football is NOT a winter sport.  In February there should not be any football games but if you must have them have then indoors.

BINGO! This was all about Kyle Shanahan's ego. Like father like son!

I have said I don't blame the loss on Matt Ryan and I'm sticking to my guns on that point. It is amusing though to read so many posts by the Flacco haters and critics who would have blamed Joe for not calling an audible if he didn't like the play call(s). I can't count the number of times some of our loyal fanbase bashed Joe for not calling an audible in similar situations this year but he wasn't given a pass like they gave Matman in this thread. If I remember correctly, the complaint several of Joe's most ardent critics used was ---- a veteran, Franchise QB should be able to veto the OC's play call if he thinks its not going to work. Didn't MattVP come into the NFL the same year as Joe? So, I guess he should have audibled out of the pass plays that were called and run the ball since he's a veteran, Franchise QB. Gimme a break! OR at least be consistent with your critique of Joe's on the field decision-making. In the real world, calling audibles doesn't work like your Madden football computer game. There's a word called insubordination. This story was all about a young OC who wanted to put his foot on the throat of the Patriots instead of just beating them so as to make a bigger name for himself before he departed to run the WCO in SF.

I would love to hear what all the Flacco critics would be sayin 'bout the collapse if Joe had been at the helm instead of the Ice Man. I got news for them. The Ice Man is right here in Ballmer and his name is Joe Flacco. Joe's a Super Bowl MVP; Matt is a league MVP. I'll take the former anyday, all day!

Isn't he the same guy these boards wants Bissicotti  to fire the Raves entire coaching staff so we can make him our HC and/or OC?

The true dictionary definition of choking is

"to lose ones composure and fail to perform effectively in a critical situation"

No need to be so extreme to try and make your point by saying a team needs to have 95% chance of winning in order to qualify as choking

Think of it this way, it's a tied game with no time left and Lebron gets fouled as the buzzer sounds. He has 2 shots to win the game and both are airballs. Did he choke?

I agree and think it is unfair to say Ryan chocked. He was beat.More accurate the FAlcons were beat.

People saying Brady is G.O.A.T. nope. Greatest Winner yes. But compare him to Bill Russell in nba(11 titles) yet Russell rarely gets put into the MJ,Kobe, whoever convo.

It takes more then rings to be the g.o.a.t., it takes peak athletic ability and skill, plus legit numbers. Now Just to compare brady isnt even in Aaron Rodgers league athletically gifts wise or a Elway of the 90s.
Brady whether his backers like it on not is like Montana a great system qb. Westcoast bunch of slot wrs who get yac.
    Hes not G.o.a.t.
Stick him on the Browns with no bellicheck, no mcdaniels, no nothing. He might win 8 games. Playing in afc Least every year helps cupcake division too.

Put a Elway or Rodgers on the Browns the they win division titles at worst. Because They have bazooka arms, make plays with their feet, and especially Rodgers his accuracy is as good as Brady, he throws average wrs open, when they are not open puts it in smallest windows

What am I missing? Doesn't GOAT mean you are the one responsible for the loss?

Around the same amount of time.

Except, that's not how the Falcons offense works. The Falcons offense is one that operates largely on five and seven step drops and requires the quarterback to actually hold the ball far more. Ryan was just vastly better this year at navigating the pocket and making throws under pressure.

And pressure is pressure. It doesn't matter if the throw was designed to be quick if there's a player in your face. The quarterback more often than not is going to struggle, except Ryan really didn't.

Again I don't have the stats but I remember a lot out of the shotgun

Because some people have the brains to be grateful for a QB who brings stability to a franchise when many franchises don't have that stability.

I must of missed the post where somebody said they appreciated  Fllacco. I guess I will have to read the seven pages again to find it. Maybe I will save me the trouble and count you.'LTN' and me as the ones with brains. LOL

If I had to choose between the two, it would be Torrey because he's younger.

Obviously doesn't make sense to have both, because then you're entire WR core is just a bunch of outside speed receivers. Unless we plan on running 4 verticals and throwing hail mary's all game long, that doesn't put us in a position to have a good offense.

Rmcjacket , you helped me a lot to understand the cap system and while I know it is unlikely that he would come back to us. ,I don't understand with the cap system how he could come back to us? I am thinking that his real salary is  lot smaller than his cap hit, but wouldn't it cost him a salary cut at least on paper?
