Well, I expect Aiken's numbers will go up, being able to play with a REAL NFL QB now.
It is going to be a fight for him to get on the field unless there is an injury to one of their top 3 WRs.
8 hours ago, Fastynart said:OMG here we go again. Another Wide receiver. Unbelievable. We have NO pass rush but the Ravens so called brain trust is talking about taking another wide receiver in the first round. How many times do you fail before it sinks in? If we don't get a bonafide pass rusher, all the wide receivers in the world will make no difference. Good grief.
Yea, so this seems to be a common misconception as of late. What is "unbelievable" is that a long time user like yourself is making it. Daniel Jeremiah, Bucky Brooks and any other analyst or pundit have absolutely zero connection to the Ravens front office. If a writer says they are getting their information from a source like a players agent, or someone in the Ravens front office, then you can assume that the information is actually coming from the "Ravens Braintrust", but even then that is not always the case. And if you are thinking that you are getting the inside scoop because you are reading the articles on this website I can assure you that, that couldn't be further from the truth. The writers on this site have no role in the decision making process of the Ravens front office. If John Eisenburg (or any other writer on this site, but John is the guy who says the most outlandish things because he is allowed to editorialize) was allowed to make decisions for this team I can assure you we would be in a lot worse shape than we are. In fact very rarely does any writer on this website get the inside scoop. For the most part they quote other writers about the happenings in our front office. I say this is common as of late because there have been multiple analysts and writers (both on this site and in other places) who have talked about both Zach Brown and Nick Mangold being good fits for the Ravens, but there has been absolutely no indication that we have had any contact with either of those guys. But if you were to read some of the comments here you would think its an inevitability.
18 minutes ago, fusuymada said:Talk about Adrian Peterson coming to the Ravens needs to be prefaced by the fact that we all need to remember what Peterson said after a 2013 game against the Ravens. He referred to Ravens fans "as the worst fans in all of football". Someone who disrespects Ravens fans has no business in purple and black. Not even to mention that the Ravens have no desire for domestic abusers and beating your children and being legally charged and penalized by the NFL is not a player the Ravens should even spit on.
Yea those would probably be my 9th and 10th reasons why we shouldn't pick up Peterson. The first and second would be he is going to be overpriced and he is oft injured. But there are a host of other reasons why our FO isnt even considering bringing him in.
I feel sorry for the team (hopefully this won't be us) that takes Jordan Willis before the 5th because of his blazing 40 time (a little less sorry if its a base 4-3 team but still sorry). This guy makes Paul Kruger look like jumpin jack flash. This guy's muscle twitch is as slow as molasses. Hopefully the front office has learned from Paul that drafting an edge defender early without good reactions time is a terrible idea. I mine as well throw Zach Banner into that category too but with him I'd feel sorry for the team that takes him at any round before the 7th.

It seems that Torrey Smith is a trigger for you my friend. Torrey Smith isn't going to get a lot of articles written about him on this website but there will be times when he does get a mention. I can't see the future but I can say with some amount of certainty that any articles abot Torrey going forward are most likely going to be similar to the one above. They are going to highlight his charity work, talk about his affinity for the area and describe the life long bonds which he shares with current and former Ravens players. I know, I know, its infuriating but I have a solution for your troubles Mack...... Don't click on articles that are about Torrey.
1 hour ago, Halshayeji said:I agree, Peterson is not a great fit in terms of how we'd utilize him but you can't say Peterson is injury prone when we just signed Woodhead who's just as injury prone. Blount is probably not someone Harbs would entertain signing because of his off field mess. But 3.9 yards and 18 TDs is not something you sneeze at. Especially considering so many of those runs were goal line or 3rd and 1 where really he's not expected to gain 10 yards anyways lol. My point was that if we are planning on signing a RB then retract the tender from west now and let him be a FA. It's not fair to the player if we wait until May when no one will sign him for more than the minimum.
Right I get what you are saying about west but I don't think we would get rid of West even if we did pick up one of those guys. Its not like we have a bunch of quality running backs waiting in the wings. And sure I can say that Peterson (last 3 years he has played 20 out of 48 games) is injury prone, and I can say that Woodhead (last 3 years he has played 21 out of 48 games) is injury prone too. That is a fair point that you made about Blounts production 2016.
no its not crazy to pursue A.Peterson or L.Blount. But it's crazy to hold t.west hostage until we figure it out. Teams are filling up their rosters and west deserves to make a few visits before he makes up his mind. Just my humble opinion.
West isn't a FA. He is a RFA and we tendered him. He doesn't have a choice. Regardless of that, letting him go because we pick up A Peterson or L. Blount wouldn't be a good idea (chances are very slim that we pick of either of them). I wouldn't count on either of those to guys to step up and be the feature back. Peterson is no spring chicken and hes only been healthy for 20 games in the last three years which would make signing him a huge risk. I don't see us taking Blount either. He had a career year in 2016 based on yards gained, but he only averaged 3.9 yards a carry. I also don't think John would even consider bring him in because of his attitude. When he played for the Steelers in 2014 the guy went into the locker room before a MNF game had ended because he didn't get any carries during the game. And because of that the Steelers let him go.

I didn't say they released him for no reason Mom. I told you exactly why they released him. They released him because Zuttah is not a guy who thrives in a power blocking system (as i mentioned in the comment above). He is best suited for a zone blocking scheme which is why the niners wanted him (as i mentioned in the comment above). There are options but not any good ones in FA at the moment. We will pick up a few interior lineman to compete for the job in the upcoming draft (as i mentioned in the comment above). And sure if you could post videos of Zuttah backing up onto Joe on three separate occasions I would be shocked. Im not saying he does well in 1 on 1 power blocking situations against bigger NTs (and even some NTs that aren't so big). In some of those situations he got backed up, but he only stepped on Joe TWICE (as i mentioned in the comment above). Your comments and questions in your reply were ALL addressed in my previous comment. I just repeated almost everything that I said then. If you could read what I say before replying I would appreciate it. Hea Vens To Murg A Troyd

Of course we still have the whole O-line situation, pass rush situation, Orr situation and CB situation.....
One things for sure, draft day will be exciting.
Yea its very hard to predict this year which position we will take. Some years you can sort of narrow it down. All I can say with this draft with some certainty is that we aren't going to draft a TE or QB in the first. And I don't see us taking a RB unless Fournette or Cook fall. If that happens we would at least have to consider taking a RB. But its all going to come down to how the board plays out. Hopefully a couple teams before us will take QBs. But I think there will be a really good CB or pass rusher waiting for us. As far as receivers go at our current spot I would only consider taking either M. Williams or C. Davis if they are there. I also like Mccaffrey but I think if we want him we could trade back a little bit for a few late rounders and still nab him as of now at least. The hype around him could definitely increase in the weeks before the draft. Not a huge fan of the guy Russ. But what do I know, I was really pumped when we got Art Brown in the second round. I thought he was going to take the reigns from Ray and we all know how that panned out.
1 hour ago, Halshayeji said:I don't think Murray would have been a great fit with the salary he got. But I do believe someone like a Lagarett Blount would elevate our running game untill Dixon proves he's ready to carry the torch.
So my main reasoning for not wanting the guy is that he will clearly get over paid and he is just not consistent. If the FO feels the need to bring a veran running back here after the draft than thats fine. But we dont need to rush into anything. I like Blounts running style but he starts to pout like a child when he is not the featured back. Remember what happened in Pitt.
dont have any idea what that's supposed to mean, or why you wrote 6-1 instead of just 5,
but in any case: Zuttah wasnt exactly great and he was undersized to begin with. Urschel or Jensen couldnt do much worse, but we definitely want better if we could get it.Constantly pushed back into Joe.... Hence the statement, "“… His toughness and accountability made him a popular teammate, but Zuttah struggled at times, especially against big nose tackles.”
haha you never are going to change are you Mom. Are you still using the "he keeps getting pushed back into Joe" argument. He was pushed into Joe a whopping two times in the second game of the year. And just as I have explained to you multiple times before the decision to cut Zuttah or bring him back was dependent on one factor. And that factor has to do with what type of blocking scheme Marty is going to use the most this year. And the answer is that we are going to be primarily using a power blocking scheme. Zuttah is a much better fit for a zone team because of his mobility and athleticism. And yes when power blocking 1 on 1 with a large nose tackle he struggles. Guess what type of scheme the 49ers run. Its a zone scheme and it is the exact same offense that Kubiak ran. JZ will thrive in Shanahan's offense and I wouldn't be surprised if he had a career year. The guy is on the back 9 of his career but he finished 14 among centers last year and 9th the year before that. And yea that makes him average. I just hope that we can find a guy that is average or better than average to take his place. As of now there are no free agent centers that could fill that void. So it looks like we will be relying on a rookie or a trade. And thats risky but certainly not heard of. The Bears took a center last year in the second and ended up grading out as the 6th best center in the league.
A total 762 words, and the first 340 were completely superfluous. Looking for a cheap way to pad your production numbers? This kind of stuff is why so many people think that sports and intelligence are mutually exclusive.
Yea that first bit was cringeworthy.

DRAFT___First lets go after TE Howard, cut 3-4 of the TE's warming the bench. Get a CB, Edge, LB, a O Lineman and a RB. Trade UP to get players that maybe able to start day one.
Oz give this fan a contract. The front office could really benefit from this guys pragmatic ideas. I keep thinking Chuck is going to run out of good suggestions for the Ravens front office. But he did it once a again. How he managed to come up with yet another innovative idea that could really help this team is beyond me. His proposals are alway attainable. I can totally see the front office actually implementing some of them.

My bad hen. That was a failed attempt at sarcasm. I like your profile picture. Did you design that?
On a completely separate note. I have no idea how or why the word "My" is in a bold typeface. I don't think I have ever seen any comments in this forum that were bold. Very Strange

I said Henry was out early, I stand corrected he played snaps in pre-season, Lewis went out during the season. Thank you for validating.
If Peterson can show in a work out that he meets the Ravens standards I'm sure he will command some consideration. Just not sure he has enough left in the tank for what he might cost. If he will play for $3.5-4.5 mil maybe so.
1000 yrds running season doesn't happen to too many RB's without skill level. Maybe you could list a few so I can relate.
Im concerned even more now in West play in 2016 and getting 700+ means? Because West is the RB I am concerned with.
Again my point is not to pick apart a Rookies play, because most have mistakes, but to make the point of the very promising Rookie class returning. +15 players if you look back at my original post.
When you are only looking at the total yards of a RB for the year you don't take into account how many times the running back ran the ball. The stat that takes that into account is yards per carry. This is a list of the RBs iYPC in 2016..
https://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/rush-yards-per-attempt/2016/
Ozzie still has work on the defense. Who is replacing Orr , Guy, and Elvis?
I am pretty sure we are going to trade a 4th, 5th, and 6th to Seattle so we can bring Arthur Brown back. And he will be able to fill in for Orr, Guy and Elvis. That's what is so great about Art. He is so versatile. He should be an instant upgrade over B. Urban, B. Kafusi, K. Correa, Matt Judon, Z. Smith and Albert McClellan. And he is most definitely going to be better than any of the rookies that we take in the draft. Its always nice to be able to give the rookies a redshirt year so they can get acclimated to the speed of the game.
Ozzie still has work on the defense. Who is replacing Orr , Guy, and Elvis?
Of course it is early, however my best guess right now is McClellan, Davis and Judon in that order. But there are many who can step in, the hardest to replace is Orr.
It would be nice to get an update on C. Davis. M. Williams and B. Kafusi too. We havent heard their names in a while.

I will stick by my points about Running Back. Sure right now not many are on the bandwagon, however the one thing the Ravens lacked probably more than anything last year was the Running Game. I can tell you many, many agree to that.
A typo (fruedian) slip in the Murray category I have stated L Murray and I still think he is a back that fits the Ravens need. Big strong down hill runner, durable and let him pound the middle of the field. ( I called for them to pick up D Murray before he went to Dallas 3 years ago where he was wasted on the bench)
I also stand behind my points about Dixon, he is a "Dufus" because he is costing himself and the team 4 games maybe more because his "off the field" dufus choice. Yes he has shown that he is ready for the NFL on the field, those two points do not contradict each other. However I do not think he can carry the Ravens 50 to 60% offensive downhill running style that this team is built around.
Henry and Lewis both played snaps, but half the season is pretty early, to go out.
A. Lewis, just watch.
Yes at this point everyone's fighting for a roster spot, a chance or a stretch, but these are Rookies as my point !
A very talented, potential promising class of Rookies that I believe most if not all will make the team, many as starters.
Yea the Vikes just picked up L Murray. Lewis played, Henry didn't go in for a single snap. This is an article on his injury and playing time.
I don't think his lack of play last year means hes going to be bust though. He did make some nice plays in preseason though. He bring something different to the table than Jernigan, pierce, williams. Yea I just think we would have ha to pay more than Murrays worth. A thousand yard running season isnt necessarily a measure of RBs skill level. At this point we have a better chance of picking up A Peterson than trading for Murray. Although that chance is very very slim.
Since we are on the topic of Rookies, The Ravens drafted strong last year and had a great post draft. So the ability to use those players has arrived. Here is a list ofthe last year rookies not to lose sight of: All of them look to be returning for a strong second year-
Ronnie Stanley- so glad Oz listened to me #1..lol, wow what a player. Wowzer
Micheal Pierce DT/NT - last year speaks for itself! All Pro in the making, wow
Tavon Young CB- I think he is as much a starter as anyone on the team. Wow
Matthew Judon OLB- This kid should be the replacement for Doom, big shoes to fill, but man did he shine at times last year,
Alex Lewis G/T- now back on the O line, can play G or T, when teamed up with Yanda or Stanley will shut down one side. Exciting young and on the verge of Pro bowl play.
Chris Moore WR- Wide receivers seem to perform better in their second year, ie Aiken, Periman, Torrey Smith, etc. especially for the Ravens. This kid could be something very special.
Maurice Canady CB- Canady showed sparks of tremendous talent in coverage, when tackling, on special teams and when put in at certain packages he played position well. The speed of the game in the backfield is about as fast as it gets on two legs. Here is a young talent who looks to have the legs.
Kennith Dixon RB- boy I hope this suspension doesn't hurt his development, I believe Ken showed that he was ready for the NFL. I would like to see him in the #2 role behind even a stronger #1 Running back ( no disrespect to West, Unfortunately I just think West is a proven #2). plug- D Murray-
Willie Henry DT- As with Lewis lost early in the season, this guy is a Beast!
Bronson Kaufusi DE- "ditto" I can't wait to see this kid in action! a Beast!
Stephane Nembot OT - Played very well on second squad, shows signs of great potential. It is time needed on the field that will tell the tale.
Matt Skura C- Matt flew under the radar last year, getting his development and NFL level experience on the PS. He could be much more the player that anyone expects.
Correa Kamalei LB- KO, down the list for a reason. Here is a player who got in fights with multiple veterans during camp last year. Who do you think won out in that deal? In my opinion, He had the sad awakening of becoming an NFL "team player" and I would bet you it started in the locker room. Get your head on straight KO, hopefully all leave last year behind them. If he uses the raw talent that everyone saw in the draft, there is huge potential. Its time to become a Pro.
Keenan Reynolds WR/KR- What does this kid have to offer? There has to be something he can do to participate, I am eager to see.
Patrick Onwuasor ILB- didn't see a lot of action, what play time was seen appeared to be solid. The jury is still out if he can become a starter, but there is potential to work with.
I am not sure any team in the NFL will return with this kind of Rookie class (+15), not including a couple additions from the off season. So lets go Sophomores, go get what you came for and give the veterans a run for their money!
Frank have you ever wondered why you are the only guy clamoring for a big name FA running back? First it was L. Murray and now its D. Murray. You do realize we would have to trade picks to get D. Murray and at this point we would have to do the same for L. Murray. It wasn't but 2 week ago when you called Dixon a "dufus" and now "Ken showed that he was ready for the NFL." Henry wasn't lost until Nov 15 (9 games) which really isn't the beginning of the season. Although he might as well have been injured because he didn't even get in for one play. Its also a bit of a stretch to say that A. Lewis is on the verge of a pro bowl invite. I am pulling for Skura and Nembot but those guys are going to be fighting for a roster spot this year.
With Sidney Jones out of the picture, I see the Ravens looking at 3 main possibilities at pick #16: Mike Williams (WR), Dalvin Cook (RB) and Derek Barnett (Edge). If these 3 are gone don't be surprised to see us trade back in the draft -maybe early 20's and get extra picks in round 2 and 3. If this occurs we should be able to get an Edge rusher in round #1 (McKinley, Charlton, Harris) and with the 2nd round pick get a good CB (Conley, Humphrey, Moreau), with the next picks in 2nd & 3rd you get o-line and a ILB and fill other needs. I can see Anquan Boldin come back on a one year deal and what he'll do in the locker room and team rooms is worth his pay alone. If Sidney Jones is available in the 4th round, I would draft him knowing he's a red-shirt but potential is worth it. I also think Ozzie will make a move or two before the draft which will continue to alter the needs as the draft approaches.
I wouldn't count out the possibility of us taking a CB in the first. It really all depends on how the board falls. John E. has no idea who the Ravens covet in this draft. If you think that Ozzy and the rest of the FO ask for John's input when aligning their draft board you're kidding yourself. John has made the assumption that the Ravens are high on a Jones just because the PUNDITS have mocked him to us. And thats not the only problem with that argument. John is also assuming that the FO is so disenchanted with the CB class, that they won't even consider drafting a guy who isnt Jones in the first. And I am not saying that we are definitely going to take a CB in the first. What I am saying is that the argument that John makes to support his prediction is absurd.
On 3/15/2017 at 7:49 PM, bigcatfrank1 said:OK think there are some good options that will work; Here is one scenario;
FA- sign Latavius Murray RB for 5-6mil Yr.
FA- Sign Zack Brown ILB for 3.2-4.2 Mil. yr.
do not sign Claiborne or Mangold-
Best chance for a CB at pick #1, ([ profanity deleted]- WR or Pass Rush)
#48 get Pat Elflein- Center -with the second pick.
This leaves 5 picks to strengthen Pass Rush, OL WR.
wild cards - a high rated Edge or one of the 2 WR's Williams or Davis are available at 16, but if not
get a WR and pass rush deeper in the draft and possibly pick up a cap casualty
The best shot at a RB at #16 is Dalvin Cook. This of course changes the FA situation at RB which I would not risk.
Frank we are not going to pick up Murray or any other running back like him in free agency. Why are you so intent on picking up one of the top RBs in free agency. I would also get prepared to be disappointed when draft time comes around and we don't take a RB in the first 3 rounds. Cook and Fourtunette will most likely be gone when we get on the clock in the first.
I think I prefer him over Claiborne. I think he may be better even when Claiborne is healthy.
If Claiborbnne is healthy AND brings his better game, he's better than Carr.
But those are two big ifs...
Yea unfortunately the FO is darned if they do and darned if they don't. Those advocating for the FO to let Claiborne walk in the comments on this mornings late for work are going to be the same people that are going to be outraged at the FO for not taking Claiborne if he has a banner year with the Jets. And I agree with you those are BIG "ifs".
hopefully he pans out unlike so many they have brought in here lately. we need a center,rt, rb, wr. defense seems somewhat set aside from young olb, ilb, future safety for weddle and cb to take over for brittle jimmy when he gets hurt again as usual. seems like a lot of needs so i can see us trade back to hoard more picks.
If they trade back, l will only consider 20th pick at best, no later. I don't want to see them trading all the way back to the end of the 1st round but it's a talent player is there for the taking then draft him at 16.
I dont see them trading back far. There is going to either be a bonafide CB or Pass Rusher there when the Ravens are up. Although they could take a tackle or WR at that spot, I think its more likely they go defense. I saw Mayocks mock have them taking Russ. I dont think that's going to happen. Williams seems more plausible but I think there is going to be a really talented defender there that we won't be able to pass up. Something that doesn't get brought up much about the failure of our defense to hold on to a lead is our pass rush. It is almost non existent in the fourth quarter even when we blitz. We need another young guy to be in there to give suggs a break. Judon looks promising. Z. Smith isnt as effective in that department but I think the pass rush and CB play go hand in hand and I think we will be able to upgrade at both of those positions in the draft.
Jimmy Smith needs to take a pay cut. He's great when available, but he's never available.
yea unfortunately thats not how that works

There has been a total of zero starting QBs in recent memory who have decided to take less money than the amount that was agreed upon at the time when they signed their contracts. QBs have shuffled their money around to give teams more cap room but they are still getting the amount of money that was offered to them in their contract. And really all that does is kick the can down the road. Joe is not going to going to take a paycut. It's really an unprecedented move.
