  1. anyone other than me like Greg Pyke coming out of GEORGIA
    PLAYER OVERVIEW

Certainly a great deal of the reason for Georgia's success running the football in recent years has been the talent lining up in the backfield. A talented offensive line, however, has also played an important role with Pyke - a former highly regarded lacrosse recruit - emerging as a verifiable star at right guard in 2014.
Pyke entered the '14 season with zero career starts and only two game appearances after redshirting in 2012. He won the starting right guard role after an impressive spring, which concluded with him being recognized by the team as the "Most Improved Offensive Player" by the coaching staff. Pyke started all 13 games for the Bulldogs in 2014, earning Second Team All-SEC honors and once again being highlighted by Richt and his staff as the team's Most Improved player.

    STRENGTHS / WEAKNESSES

STRENGTHS: Pyke possesses great core strength and leg drive which allows him to push defensive tackles off the ball on his way toward the second level.
Understands angles, consistently placing himself between the defender and his running back. Creative when blocking on the move, striking defenders with force when he resorting to cut blocks when necessary. Doesn't waste time worrying about defenders who may have slipped past, instead re-focusing on other targets, often blocking multiple opponents on the same play.

In pass protection, Pyke shows good initial quickness, as well as lateral agility to mirror defenders. He attacks defenders with a strong initial punch and anchors well due to proper knee bend and his core strength. Alert to stunts and surprise blitzes.

WEAKNESSES: Lacks ideal agility to track down linebackers.

He may not even get drafted. I could definitely see him as a UDFA. Do you know this guy or something?

    No way we take Peppers.
If Hooker or Adams are on the board when we draft, I agree, we might take them. But I think Adams is the best player in the draft. Easy. And Hooker could go as early as number 2.
No chance at all they make it to 16

Yea I haven't seen any mocks this year that have those safeties making it to us, but from the mocks ive seen after the first 5 picks there really isn't a whole lot of consensus.  It could just be me, I really haven't been following the draft as much as I have in the last two years.  It is also possible that things start to become a bit clearer the closer we are to the draft.  But in at lease one of these CBS drafts the following guys are there when we are on the clock..... Barnett, Foster, Ross, Reddick, Harris, Cook, Mckinley, Charlton, Peppers, Williams, Davis, Howard, Cunningham, Humphrey, McCaffrey

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/mock-draft

I even saw one yesterday on BR that has J Allen falling past us which seems a bit implausible to me.

IMO it's never been more clear on what the Ravens need and what is available at pick #16. Just the watch replay of Ravens vs Steelers 2016, Ravens vs Patriots 2014, or any game versus the Bengals.

Those games scream the need for CB, S, Pass rusher OLB. In other words skill position in the pass defense. To do anything else is absurd and will not improve their chances of beating the team they need to get to playoffs.

How many times can this defense be exposed or abused late in the game?
How many 10 to 14 point leads gets wiped away cause the CB can't cover and not enough pass rushers.

If they want to compete with Bengals, Steelers, Raiders, Patriots, Chiefs, they better address the pass defense. And Brandon Carr and Weddle are over 30 and not enough especially since it's a coin flipped if Jimmy Smith will be healthy.

Pick the BPA at one of those positions end of story.

They can get WR, OT, RB, C, G in the 2-3 rounds with quality. It's a weak OT class and Ravens, for whatever reason, are never successful at drafting Wr in the first round. In a draft where they can't afford to miss, why go there?

Our starting 5 is solidified. End of story. 2 top 10 safeties as well.
    We do need pass rush
Weddle is over 30 and not enough? LOL........OK
Defense was gassed at the end of games cuz it was on the field the whole game from our inept offense. Gotta score to win
The only way we're passing on Corey Davis or Williams if they're there is if Barnett or Takk are there too, and we're stoked on one of them. Or if we're dead set on trading back
0% chance we take a Safety in the first. I doubt we draft one til the 4th or later. If Teez is there for our 2nd pick, that would be tough to pass up

I wouldn't say zero percent. It really is going to come down to what the teams in front of us do. I would say there is a zero percent chance that we take either a QB or a TE but I wouldn't go that far at Safety. I don't think there is a huge chance of Hooker or Adams making it to us but if they did we would have to consider taking one of them. I don't think they would be tempted to take Peppers though, and he will most likely be on the board when we pick.

  4. You go back and watch the Ravens play Redskins, or Eagles or Dallas and you'll see Ravens will mis Lawrence Guy more than any player they lost on Defense.

    Agreed

Im not sure how they ended up at the end of the season but either way Guy was a big part of the defenses success even though he was a rotational player

    https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-one-thing-every-nfl-team-can-be-thankful-for-on-thanksgiving/

"The Ravens are currently atop the AFC North, and one of the reasons why is their highest-graded run defense, which is currently allowing the fewest yards per carry (3.4) in the league. Two big reasons for this are defensive interior players Lawrence Guy and Timmy Jernigan. Guy (12.9) and Jernigan (12.1) are currently first and second, respectively, in run-stop percentage among 3-4 defensive ends. This has freed up linebacker C.J. Mosley to earn the third-highest run-defense grade (87.1) among linebackers so far this season."

His pass rushing abiliity is also an area of his game that gets looked over. He only had a half of a sack less than TJs totals last year and graded out as the 8th best interior pass rusher at seasons end.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000784423/article/aaron-donald-leads-top10-interior-pass-rushers

"Several players know for their pocket collapsing ability, including Aaron Donald, Geno Atkins, Mike Daniels, Calais Campbell and Fletcher Cox, all ranked above Guy. However, the Ravens underrated defensive end was more disruptive than well regarded pass rushers such as Joey Bosa, Jadeveon Clowney, Grady Jarrett, Ndamukong Suh, Damon Harrison and Muhammed Wilkerson, according to this measurement. It is worth noting that most of these players played a greater percentage of snaps than Guy, which hurt their pass rush average, but a top-8 ranking from Guy is impressive nonetheless."

Hopefully Urban and Kafusi are going to be able to step up to the plate. Henry will get rotated in there as well. He has almost identical measurements to Guys coming out of college except he is an inch shorter and a bit more explosive (LG vert - 29" WH vert 30.5"). But of course there are plenty of guys who have similar or even better measurements than starters in this league that were never able to make a team. Guy is an underrated pick up for the Pats. It will be interesting to see how they use him.

  5. all these draft picks every year we still have no offense and no big time offensive weapons. news flash. Draft picks only mean something if you draft well. The browns and jaguars have a million draft picks every season and it amounts to nothing because the gm cant recognize talent. ozzie and eric are approaching browns jaguars status.

The Browns haven't had an 8 - 8 season since 2007. The Jags haven't had and 8 - 8 season since 2010. Using hyperbole as a rhetorical device is all well in good until you begin to rely on it so much that you forget that it is in fact hyperbole.

Ravens will probably get a shot at one of the 3rd players in position -
    Reddick- Humphry - Ross respectively,
but should have a shot at the top LT Ramczyk or 2nd RB Dalvin Cook.

This will be a tough decision for the Ravens with those 5 players left on the board all look to have great talent, however which one is going to break out in the NFL? (I don't particularly pick Charlton at a #16.)

I might take Dalvin Cook RB or Ramczyk LT - I think the question might be who do they really like at 2,3, 3 and 4.
    - If they have their sites on a OL in the later rounds we may see them pass on Ramczyk.
    - they may see Cook as another Dixon and not see the value.
    - Does Riddick fit the Raven pass rush mold ?
    - Is Ross tough enough, he seems fragile
    - Humphry looks hot and cold, can he stay consistent

it sure would make it easier if one of the top 12 were to slip ( considering 2 QB and TE should go in 15)

Williams, Davis, Foster or Barnette would be highly coveted.at 13-16. I think any one of them would be a shoe-in at 16 for the Ravens

So I looked at a mock today and the majority of the guys you have listed as "highly coveted" (which would also be on my highly coveted list) are predicted to be there.  Since this is the first mock Ive looked at this year, I don't know how realistic or unrealistic it is, but there are some guys that I thought were going to be gone early that fell totally out of the first round.   Bleacher report isn't really known for their in depth analysis of anything really, but without looking at other mocks the two picks that seem really out of place are the Colts taking the guard from Western Kentucky at 15 and the Cards picking up Mahomes at 13.  The case with Mahomes is more likely.  QBs usually start to climb up draft boards as the draft nears.  Is this mock an outlier or have other mocks predicted similar things?

  7. I personally hate all Thursday night and Monday night games because I do not pay for cable or satellite and until the nfl starts streaming games live I don't get to see any of them.

They are streamed. You just have to find a website that streams them. Its usually a European website. I would recommend looking over a forum dedicated to this type of thing when the season starts. Just make sure you have a really good anti-virus program or use safari. Using mac safari with an good antivirus program is probably your best bet. Im really not in know when it comes to computer security, so its probably best to use the forum that you found the site on to asked what the best practices is. Or ask someone who specializes in that type of thing. I've been doing it for years on my Mac with antivirus software and I have never had any problems.

  8. Please, do not draft a WR in the first round. I don't care if it's a pass rusher, O Lineman, RB, or whatever. Just don't waste another 1st round pick on Wide Receiver. We suck at drafting WR talent, we suck at developing WR talent, and the ONLY good WR the Ravens drafted they let go once his rookie contract was up (right after he caught 11 TD passes for the Ravens!?). Defense and O Line are Ozzie's bread & butter; WR is his Achilles heel.

So you would have been alright with giving Torrey a 5 year 40mil contract?

The niners were regretting it after one year
    http://www.ninersnation.com/2016/2/17/11032618/torrey-smith-contract-worst-49ers-salary-cap-the-sporting-news

    in 2015 he had
    33 rec for 663 yards
That same year on that same team Boldin had
    69 rec for 789 yards

    The numbers scream one dimensional

    Plus a Birk-caliber C, a KO-type LG and a Ray Lewis-Ed Reed-Birk-Boldin type locker room leadership ;)

KO was not the same KO that we know today, he was above average at best because he was hurt all the time, so Urschel is comparable. Jensen is an average center but it should work out. Worse comes to worst, put Jensen at G and Urschel at C.

The leadership will never be at that level, but Weddle and Suggs are doing a pretty darn good job in my opinion. The addition of Jefferson will also boost the confidence and swagger of the secondary. CJ is another up-and-coming guy after he takes Correa under his wing. My gut feeling also tells me that Dumervil returns. Flacco, Yanda and a grown-up Wallace will take on the leadership roles on the offensive side of the ball.

KO has missed only 14 games in 5 seasons which really isnt a terrible number. Urschel is not comparable and quite frankly not even close to comparable. And neither is Jensen but I think he has a better chance to start than Urschel does at this point. We will draft some interior guys and hopefully they will be able to beat out those guys.

All we need now is a good quarterback. And going by ship for that game in GB is similar to staying in Calif for a week between games a few years back. We all saw how that went. You get in a plane, you get there quick. You get on a ship and you just float for days. Who is making these decisions?

Well... sorry to have to break it to you, but...

    1.) we already have a good QB - one that played rather poorly at stretches of last season - but not a bad QB by any measure;

2.) I'm afraid you've been fooled. That ship-thing was an April's fool prank.

Sorry to break it to YOU! No, the Ravens do NOT have a good QB. PJ's living quite famously off a wing and a prayer heave, botched by the safety. A lifetime QB rating of 84% for a ten year starter is AWFUL! You can see how bad Pathetic Joe and Self Righteous John have been since Lewis retired. You can make every excuse in the book you want for these two, but it doesn't change the facts.

I do hope you know that you are the only one who knows what the nickname that you have given Joe stands for. PJ? I would also like to inform you that QBR is NOT a percentage. Matt Stafford Steve Mcnair, Matt Hasselbeck, Troy Aikman, Eli Manning, Alex Smith, Dan Fouts, John Elway, Bernie Kosar, Fran Tarkington, Otto Grahm, Drew Bledsoe Terry Bradshaw, Joe Namath, Johnny Unitas, and Phil Simms all have QBRs lower than Joes. Directly above him is Jim Kelly 84.39, Brett Favre 86, and Dan Marino 86.38. It is quite clear that you have very little idea of what QBR is and have absolutely no idea how it is calculated. I am not saying that Joe is better or worse than any of the guys I have mentioned. I am saying that you have no idea what you are talking about.

  11. Corey Davis and Mike Williams will be gone by #16, but I would be OK with taking Ross. Given his size, put him in the slot and he will be terrific. Also be OK with taking McCaffrey for the same reason. Not as fast, but plenty fast enough, great receiver, moves the chains, excellent return man. Ravens need more weapons on O.

I almost think McCaffrey offers more than Ross in the slot. At the slot position 40 times don't mean much. McCaffrey had the second best 3 cone drill time at the combine at 6.57. Ross didn't even do the drill, not because of injuries but because he didn't think the number would help his draft stock. He ran an unofficial 6.71 at some point. I think McCaffrey is more versatile and is more of a swiss army knife kind of guy.

Problem is, we just don't know how to utilize our talents. Darren Waller has crazy speed for his size, but our playbook has nothing for him. Same applies to Lorenzo and Boyle. Maxx came outta college as the best TE available and we have not seen JACK from him either. It ain't the players, its the coaching staff. Simply-put.

you know I think you are on to something but I have a little different spin on it... I think the Ravens are too utilized when it comes to Offensive playmakers. One guy does this well, another guy does something else well but they are limited in the same position ...that just sets up to expose the offense in personnel changes. I would rather see multiple players largely talented, similar and interchangeable.
    Examples:
-if they commit to Pitta, then we should use Williams in multiple sets who is very similar. ( Boyle and gilmore probably could do similar)
-If the were to bring Boldin in that would be great, here I would use Waller to learn Boldin's style of receiving and routes. Though he has more speed, the ability in the slot is much more important if Boldin were to be on the team. ( another idea is to draft OJ Howard for the slot) I think Waller would make an incredible Slot Receiver.
    - Watch D Woodhead and then Dixon those 2 will exhibit very similar play and they should be able to disguise the play well.

I think the Ravens need a Running Back, I do not think West is a good enough RB to be #1 and Dixon is a better Stretch back more like a Danny Woodhead who will be great for the Ravens. Dixon is the future. The Ravens need a clock control Running back. West may find himself 3rd in line. I hope he makes me eat my words.

    -

What is a stretch back? Stretch/zone is a blocking scheme. I think you may be referring to a one cut back who thrives in that stretch scheme. Woodhead and Dixon are not even remotely similar. Danny is 5'8" 200 and runs a 4.33. Dixon is 5'10" 215 and runs a 4.5. Woodhead is going to be playing a lot of slot this year. He will probably pick up more yards catching passes than running the ball. He will get into a lot of 3rd down situations. Its extremely unlikely that we will bypass West on the RB depth chart. Woodhead has only gained 500 yards once in his 9 year career and that was in 2010. He is not a guy you want to give too many carries to because his diminutive size. The guy has only been able to play in 21 of 48 games in the last few years because of injury. They aren't going to give him a huge load at RB. And OJ is a pipe dream. There isn't any way we take that guy (even if we force him to loose 30lbs)

First he needs to reduce his absolutely absurd $25m cap number. He's not worth a nickel over $18m (about what E Manning's number is). His production does not warrant anything more, I don't care what his postseason numbers say, he's not going to get there.

In recent memory there hasn't been ONE starting QB that has ever taken less money than the agreed upon amount in his contract. Im not sure why that is so hard to understand for some people. Joe is not going to set a new precedent by agreeing to a pay cut. Mike Glennon just signed a "prove it" deal with the Bears. Even if he plays terribly and get cut next offseason, he is still going to get 19 million for this year.  And he is a guy that has thrown only 11 passes since 2015. Joe's cap hit is $22,550,000. He is not going to take a pay cut. Continuing to bring it up in the comment section as if it is something that happens all the time, is not going to increase the chances of it happening. I know this truth may come as a shock. I suggest that you let it marinate in your head for a few days to ensure that it is stored in your long term memory.

KC's talent was never the issue for his rookie season. The learning of trying to learn two positions overwhelmed him. Also him getting in a fight with Pitta probably caused some negative actions against him and affected him socially. I think he was completely out of his element in his rookie season. With another year to mature and get comfortable, I think he will come into the summer with a completely different mindset and knowledge of the game. KC has game. He just needs to fit in first.

I think he will do better this year, but to say that he displayed the physical talent needed to compete in this league is a stretch.  He was constantly overwhelmed by blockers.  And this isn't a high school locker room the skirmish with Pitta wasn't as big of a deal as you are making it seem.

  15. It may sound like it's criticism, so I hasten to make it clear: it isn't: it's hard to take anything Harbaugh says seriously - because, as a good businessman, he always talks up every player. He always says that this or that player is great and will be huge ion the NFL. He told that he was absolutely sure the following players would go on having a great NFLcareer - right afdter they were cut or traded by him: Sergio Kindle, David Reed, Tandon Doss, Nick Easton, Tom Zbikowski. We all know how well those prophecies panned out...

Really, don't get me wrong: it's absolutely OK that Harbaugh tries to make every player leaving Baltimore a potential superstar. This is nice, and is a win-win thing. But obviously, it's just talking up players that aren't good enough. That's why we shouldn't put too much trust in what he says player-wise... We never know if it's really his hones opinion/plan - or just being nice to the player.

Yeah, The same goes for post game press conferences. People seem to get angry at Harbaugh when he doesn't admonish Joe (or any other player that didn't play well) after a rough game. Nothing good would come from calling out players in front of the media.

We're projected to have $46M in cap space next year, so we ought to be able to figure out how to keep Jernigan if he were a priority.

Well I am assuming that they are going to try to get a deal with Mosley.  That money will go fast.  It just doesn't make sense to spend that much money on two interior lineman.

  17. Personally, I thought KC's problem was learning the defensive schemes and that's what kept him off the field.  He has all of the physical attributes but if the problem is above his shoulders he'll never see the field.

I don't no. When he was in the game he had trouble fighting off blocks and got overwhelmed at times. It could be a playbook issue, although last year an article said the Ravens were surprised at how fast he picked things up, Of course they also made it seem like he was going to be a big contributor. So the he picked up things line could also be an exaggeration.

  18. Lewis v Hurst for RT will be a good battle in camp, the "loser" could potentially become the starting LG. A stud center in the draft is more important to me than a stud tackle considering our depth chart, and we can find that on day 3 instead of worrying about it day 1 or 2.

Although unlikely I am hoping one of the OL on the roster is this year Zach Orr. Hopefully the OL can stay healthy this year. Losing a starter O linman could spell disaster.

Yea Im a big Timmy fan too.  I like his sack dance.  For the most part he had it under control last year, but his first two years the guy would wear himself out dancing after a big play, He toned it down a bit this year and  better conditioning also probably played a factor in his recovery time as well.  He is going to bring it this year.  He just has to keep his head on straight, stay away from the personal fouls and bring the heat.

I wonder why there aren't more player for player swaps: Jernigan for a Wide Receiver of comparable value. Draft picks are tricky things to trade unless they are being traded for other draft picks.

There have to be a lot of coincidences that play into player for player swaps, especially when it involves players that are capable starters.  Each team has to have excess players at one position that the other team doesn't have and at the same time be deficient at the position that the other team has an excess in,  When you are just trading a pick, one team has to have excess talent and one team has to have a deficiency in talent at a certain position.  Those type of situations are much more common.  The other thing that is more complicated in player to player swaps is that the current contract of each player has to be taken into account.  And because of all of those variables a lot of the times it isn't a 1 for 1 trade. Usually some picks are exchanged as well.

  21. If teams are legitimately interested in Timmy, then they need to step up to the plate. Anything less than 2nd round doesn't make sense for us, and I'm not so sure our FO is ready to admit they won't be able to afford him next year. Besides, he's gonna be a beast this year on a rookie contract.

I don't think they have to admit that we wont be able to afford him next year. It is a given. If we didn't pay BWill than it would be a possibility, but its not going to happen, I would take a 3rd for him but I don't think there is a team that would give that up. I agree I think we should keep him this year and I also think he is going to have a banner year. But if there is any tiny tiny tiny hope of us keeping him, a "beast" year would certainly put him out of reach.
