regardless we drafted him in the second round to be a pass rusher not ILB i hope he gets the starting job but why we drafted him and how we have to use him can mean two different things

No.. Mack... My question wasnt asking what players we drafted this year play the same position that Corea was expected to play last year.  This is what I said...

ME   "What player have we drafted so far that would compete at the same position that Correa does? Do you think that Tim Williams is a good fit at ILB?"

With Correa competing for the ILB job this year that means that (so far) we have not drafted any players that will be competing with him for that spot.

Your answer (below) wasnt relevant to my assertion.

YOU  "We drafted Correa to be a pass rusher not ILB lol and Judon out played him in the preseason so?"

Right position, wrong player. Immense athletic potential, not a lot of technique. Ryan Anderson or Demarcus walker would have been better picks, or ya know, go juju. With pocic off the board now joe is gonna be hurting next year

You are able to come to that conclusion by looking at a few game tapes of those guys, reading scouting reports from the experts, and looking at mock drafts? Making a statement like that with the limited information that you know about these players is ridiculous. And your second statement supports that argument as well. Youre basically saying that drafting Pocic was the only way we would be able to protect Joe next year which again is absurd. Especially because a lot of big boards have Eiflen as the best C in the draft. You cant just read an article about Pocic and decide thats your guy. There are a lot of good O lineman left in this draft.  Orlovsky would be another solid pick.  The best rookie lineman last year played guard through out the entirety of his college career but moved to center with the bears and has a really good year.  Filling the void does not necessarily mean we have to get a guy that played there in college.

    Who?

And right there is the problem.

I think the problem is that people actually think that they have a good grasp of all of the movers and shakers in the draft when that is clearly not the case. Being worried about taking a guy that you haven't heard of is just not a logical reaction. Fans are privy to 1/100 of the information that teams have on every single player in the draft. But the players that get talked about most are the guys that are projected to be first rounders at anytime in the last year. All that said I don't think this guy was obscure as people are making seem. He has consistently been listed in the top 5 OLBs in this draft and was projected to go from the late first to mid second.

I would put Marlon on A.J Green the first game "You want to be the best, play against the best" . Ravens are going to lose anyway

I can't see us beating either the Bengals or the Steelers. With Garret and Peppers on the Browns defense, I don't see Flacco beating the Browns either. We are in for a very long season this year and if it does it doesn't bode well for John Harbaugh.

This is great...after one round of the draft it has apparently become obvious that the Ravens will go 0-6 in the division next year, especially because of 2 players Cleveland selected. How in the world did the "awful" and "talent-less" 8-8 Ravens go 4-2 against these same teams last year? Solidifying their secondary with Jefferson, Carr, and Humphrey so far in the off-season truly must have been a waste of time. And there will be no help added in the rest of the draft or the remainder of the off-season, so let's just sit back, Raven fans, and hope they lose enough to obtain the 1st pick in the draft next year. There is no need to be optimistic for 2017; the "brilliant" commentators on this message board have spoken!

We are on the same page here once again. Not only are there 6 more rounds in the draft but the game that is under discussion is over 3 months away. I will say that there is a tendency for people here to sway with the wind. In other words three days from now or even tomorrow the gloomy doomys could very well change their sad faces into glad faces. And it is likely that they will go back and forth between those feelings a good 90 times before we play the Bengals.

"Its a bit bizarre really as the instances of players coaches and front office members reading these comments are few and far between."

    Are you kidding me?

Do you, and other "brilliant" football minds who post on this site, really believe that the Ravens' players, coaches, and front office should be reading the comments and taking the advice of "well-informed" fans who are sitting at home on the couch in order to improve their performance on the field? Please, oh please, Steve Bisciotti, hire these football "geniuses" immediately so that the Ravens may hope to win a few more games next year; wait, check that, bring home the Lombardi Trophy.

Just as Donald Trump said during the campaign that only he could solve all the country's problems so only the "brilliant" posters on this site can solve the Ravens' woes.

You are a "brilliant" one aren't you Woolly61?  This was my comment verbatim.

"There are a lot of people that make comments intended to be direct messages to players mentioned in articles.  But they fall on deaf ears I am afraid to say.  Its a bit bizarre really as the instances of players coaches and front office members reading these comments are few and far between."

When I used the word "as" (bizarre really AS the instances) it is being used in the causal sense.  And that fact should be fairly straight forward AS the sentence would not be comprehensible if "as" was being used in the temporal manor.

Although, I did write the comment fairly quickly, and I could see how one could infer that the term "bizarre" was in reference to the fact that personal comments fall on deaf ears.  But if that were the case the comment doesn't make much sense either because it would be interpreted the way that I have written below.

It is bizarre that comments fall on deaf ears because the instances of players coaches and front office members reading the comments is few and far between.

And the only way to make the sentence above into a logical thought is by removing the word bizarre.  And once you come to that conclusion you would come to the realization that WE ARE ON THE SAME PAGE.  I have rearranged some of the components in the original sentence to make it a bit clearer for you.

It is bizarre that a lot of people make comments intended to be direct messages to players mentioned in articles because the instances of players coaches and front office members reading thee comments are few and far between.

Now it is clear that I could have worded that comment differently in order to make it clearer.  That said when looking back at the comment it is hard for me to understand how anyone (with an adequate command of the English language) could come to the conclusion that you came to.

I would suggest that before writing a condescending remark describing  someone as "brilliant" in a tongue and cheek kind of way, that you make sure to read the comment over a few times, to make sure it says, what you think it says.  And then you could save your analogies about the President of the United States for another day.

Did you're mother or father die when you were young? Mine did, so I get it. In his case, he had no father, his mother left when he was little, raised by his grandmother and then SHE died leaving him with basically nothing but football. He lived a tough life (bouts of homelessness IIRC, Richmond was a tough area of Oakland) and survived and got out, and in the moment of fulfilling his dream and promise he was emotional. That type of passion and motivation is what breeds great football players. You just don't get it.

Again im not minimizing the difficult life he has had or the passing of any of his family members as I have said before.  My point has nothing to do with that.  My point is that this guy attends the first round of the NFL draft and he knows that there is a fair chance he is going to get drafted.  In anticipation of this he brings a picture of his grandmother which is nice gesture.  I have no problem with any of that.  I have a problem with him immediately going up to a camera and proceeding to shout aggressively at it.  And then he turns to Deion and in an even louder voice he says "Come on Man".  He then proceeded to turn up the volume a bit more and say G D. He then turns back to the camera and shouts a few aggressive lines about getting to the QB.  And then in the interview he again says another obscenity (the one that starts with F).  There is nothing for me to get.  My problem has nothing to do with his past.  It has everything to do with the moment that he was on stage last night.  You are trying to justify the fact that this guy aggressively barked obscenities at the top of his lungs into a camera that broadcast his actions to a nationwide audience (including kids) because he has had a difficult life.

"That type of passion and motivation is what breeds great football players"

And with regards to your assertion above, there may be a correlation between a difficult upbringing (to serve as motivation) and great football players but it is not a causal relationship.

If that kid is out there reading this blog, what would he think about Ravens fans?

It's OZ that should be the focus. Show the kid some love. Not guys like Webb that a lot us forgive repeatedly no mater how CAP he eats up while stopping no one.

If Joe plays like he did last year, it will not matter who they draft. FYI- Joe had more weapons last than any season. Yet, some fans always blame the play-calling, O-line, receivers, etc.. Better offense needs better QB play.

Perriman is a 1st round guy, Pitta is been getting paid even when he is not playing, Wallace has speed, Yanda is a HOF, Stanley is 1st round LT, Lewis is solid.

Joe is one of the highest paid dudes in the league and eating up cap space allocated to offense. It's time to stop thinking all the answers are to surround him with the best of everything and put responsibility on HIM to make guys better.

There are a lot of people that make comments intended to be direct messages to players mentioned in articles.  But they fall on deaf ears I am afraid to say.  Its a bit bizarre really as the instances of players coaches and front office members reading these comments are few and far between.  I agree with what you are saying though its not his fault that people are unhappy with the FO decision to take him.

It's not ra-ra bs. Ben Boulware, and dare I say, Ray Lewis are Ra Ra bs type of players. He was just happy he fulfilled his promise to his grandmother, who was his acting mother and father. The pain of losing a parent, let alone your only one, is excruciating. Not many people know, I do. I respect him for channeling the pain into something positive.

Well you just proved my point.  I am not saying that being a ra ra player isn't good thing.  Ray was great at it.  My argument from my previous comment was that, "There are some people that think that ra ra bs has a direct correlation with better performance/skill level".  To break it down what I am getting at is that being a ra ra guy has absolutely no bearing  on the skill level of a player. There are plenty of guys who aren't vocal who are great players, and there are plenty of guys that are vocal that are not great players.  And as i mentioned before you proved my point by sighting Ben Boulware.  He is a ra ra guy but isn't a great player.  He is projected to be taken in the 7th round and very well could go undrafted.  I am not minimizing his loss and clearly I am in the minority with my position on this.  It just seemed over the top to me and like it was more a publicity stunt than anything else.  It is odd to me because he seemed angry which isn't an emotion that I could see manifesting itself when paying homage to your grandmother.

LOL. Looked ridiculous? What do you mean? I missed it, I wasn't watching when he was picked

Check it out. I can't understand how any journalist who saw that speech could write articles commending the guy with headlines such as,  '"Takkarist McKinley wins hearts with draft speech to late grandma" and  "Takk McKinley wins the night with emotional interview about his grandmother".  I think the best way to describe it is bizarre or cringe worthy.  very very strange

  10. Clearly no one is going to be able to agree as to whether or not this was a good pick. I think there is something that we could all agree on here. Im feeling pretty thankful that we didn't Takk (not that i thought there was chance to take him that early). He looked absolutely ridiculous.  I had to come back and edit this one.  After reading some articles about it there seems to be a lot  of people that admired him for that.   There are also some people that think that ra ra bs has a direct correlation with better performance/skill level.  I couldn't disagree more on both of those issues.

  11. Still upset on this pick. This guy better turn inti Derrelle Revis, or Deion Saunders. You have 3 top 10 transcendent players on board with Foster,Howard,Allen and a loaded CB draft and they take arguably worst cb of the 1st round.

Dang sure better make up for it today. A lot of good pass Rushers have come off the board they better grab 1 round 2 before they are all gone.
Tim Williams, Tyus Bowser, Bashum, etc
Maybe Zay Jones still around, Lbr Cunningham,
Better dang sure get some Pass rushers, and WRs today

Allen and Foster were both taken way later than they were projected to be taken. And that was a direct result of injury concerns. And the fall down the board clearly shows that the Ravens were not the only ones concerned about the injuries.

Why would it be a joke our best d linemen only notched 5 sacks almost completely in the first half of the year and he's gone. Our d line couldn't get pressure on a 50 year old drew Bledsoe it's pathetic

This is the comment I was responding to. "Last season our d-line was about as non-factor as it's ever been in our team history"  Its a bit hyperbolic dont you think.  If he said the DL was a non factor in the passing game I would agree with that.

  13. all we need now is Ben Boulwere in the third and our D is #1 next year pass rushers lol we don't need no stinking pass rushers Judon Suggs KC and Smith will do great BW and MP clogging up the middle with BK and BU on the end and CD and WH comping at the bits for playing time think about it this way with the secondary we now have we will have at least 3-6 seconds every pass play and we will have over 50 sacks next year you heard it hear first next two picks need to be O-line which should be BPA unless JU-JU falls to us somehow good day one of the draft

There is a good chance that Boulware doesnt even get drafted. And if does get picked it will be in the late rounds.

  14. I can´t believe we passed J. Allen and Reuben Foster inmediate impact players.

Three teams helped us by choosing QBs and we did not take advantage of them...

Congratulations Redskins and Niners fans you are very lucky.

Mr. Ozzie, Coach Harbaugh what is your playmaker concept?

    Maybe I'm completely wrong.

Why do you believe that J Allen fell so far? Some experts projected him as a top 5 pick. There are injury concerns about this guy.

    http://ninerswire.usatoday.com/2017/03/06/jonathan-allens-shoulder-issues-might-cause-fall-in-nfl-draft/

And that was the case for Foster. I mean the guy dropped to 31. And clearly we weren't the only ones that were worried about that.

    0

  15. Very meh in my opinion. Especially considering who was on the board at the time. How do you pass on Allen and Howard?

I think for Allen it was an injury thing which made him fall after being projected as a top 5 guy. Howard is the best overall tight end when looking at both blocking and receiving. Although I don't think that he is the best receiving TE in the draft and thats what we are in the market for. We have plenty of TEs that can block and we have spent a lot of draft resources on that position in the past few years. As far as overall athleticism and big play ability I think both Evans and Njoku surpass OJ in those categories.

Our cornerback play last year and the year before stunk to high heaven. Ravens fans have been crying like little girls over our lack of choosing CB's in the draft. We pick one. Still not happy. Not surprised.

Yes but there were at least 8 players higher in he board. Best player available, guess not.

Well you have made the assumption that the Ravens board looks like the board that you are referring too. I am not saying definitively that he was the bpa because really we don't know. But I think it is possible that both Allen and Foster fell down their board because of injuries.
