  1. That is funny. You know what else is funny is that Leslie Frazier never gets a shout out, even with all of the articles that are about the secondary. I mean giving a shout out to the positional coach happens all the time. I here about Richard Angulo, Joe Cullen, Bobby Engram and Thomas Hammock all the time
  2. One of the more challenging things to do as a LT is to block a guy who is lined up in the wide nine. Barwin doesn't have a lot of speed, so youre not worried about him beating Stanley to the outside (especially with how athletic that Ron is) but there is another element to the wide nine that makes it tough. The DEs only responsibility is to get to the QB. He isn't worried about containing the run, so its pretty much balls to the walls, no hesitation. Not only that, but since the guy is lined up so far outside, there is a lot of room for him to build up a full set of steam before having to engage the tackle. As for the second clip, when a defensive back blitzes, you better be able to put him on his heinie 9 times out of 10. The pancake isn't really the reason that, that clip is impressive. He has a DE lined up on his outside shoulder, and before the snap gets off, that is the guy that RS is supposed to block. But when the ball is snapped the DE stunted to the inside, while a DB blitzed from the outside. Basically the goal is to try to get the LT to commit to the DE who is looping inside, which in turn clears a lane for the blitzing DB. In that situation you really have to rely on your peripheral (a large part of which is blocked by the helmet) vision in order to pick that up. The way Stanley and Yanda handled that, is exactly the way that they draw it up in the meeting room. Just great technique all around. Ron did a great job of engaging the DE, recognizing he was looping inside, and handing him off to Yanda. All the while keeping an eye on blitzers from the outside. As people have already said there is no doubt in my mind that Yanda is playing a huge role in his development. Hopefully that tandem will be together for the foreseeable future. If you didn't know any better you would think that those guys have been playing next to each other for years.
  3. They need someone to help block and that's not Pitta. Best go with Kyle. Boyle is another option. With the way that guy moves sometimes it hard to believe that hes 275. I think we drafted him specifically to be a blocking tight end, but hes shown he can do more than that.
  4. Do you mean a slant kinda like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EdyuPIJa2c It would sure be a nice Christmas present to see that again. Mike Mitchells speed left him a long time ago. He is certainly vulnerable out there. If he takes a bad angle there is no way he is going to be able to catch Wallace.
  5. This is really just speculation because I can't see the entire play, but I think Brown was triple teamed on that play because there was no route in the flats (RB most likely stayed into block) so Orr was able to drop into coverage. I am pretty sure that if the running back ran a route on that side of the field that Orr would have been responsible for his coverage. The other possibility is that the OLB was responsible for covering the flats. Either way you can tell how much our defense respects the guy because the majority of the time in that situation (running back stays into block) the ILB would come on a delayed blitz to the QB.
  6. I'm not going to respond to your entire post, because the second article clearly doesn't. It refers to his consistent problems he's had. I'm done arguing about it. But, in case you just missed this part... "Going all the way back to Week 1, his performance against the Buffalo Bills was shaky at best. Since then, his poor play has been masked by the offensive line regressing as a unit, but on a day when the left and right sides both were solid, Zuttah’s struggles were on full display. If he can't turn it around soon, the Ravens may want to look for some fresh blood at the position in order to protect Joe Flacco, and also find some consistency in the running game. In the meantime, head coach John Harbaugh would be wise to challenge Zuttah to play with some more discipline. If he doesn't, the Ravens can expect more of the same from what is proving to be a pitiful offensive unit. Ohhhhhh mom, you cant respond to the rest of it because there isn't a rebuttal that would make my statements false... And I wasn't going to go there, but since you brought it up, the only source that you quoted is by far the most unreliable source in Baltimore. The guys on 105.7 make more sense than that web site. Their "reporters" if you can call them that are glorified bloggers. You yourself could even write a piece for SB nation if you wanted to, but they pay per article and are particularly cheap. Which in turn provides a cheap, unreliable product. They have a site for every single pro football team and basketball team and only have 29 full time employees. Not only that but a lot of their "reporters" don't even live in the city that they are covering. Here is a little bit more about that. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/07/business/media/07fans.html And like I said before, I have no doubt in my mind that JZ cost us the Dallas game. He had 3 drive killers, but as I said before two were clearly reaches. I have found video of two of them below both of the videos the writers question the call. But really that is no excuse. He killed us in the Dallas game which your first article points out. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Late-For-Work-1121-Eight-Takeaways-After-Cowboys-Beat-Ravens/65888879-6fdb-45a0-97cb-f528ce9bd55c http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/What-You-Missed-vs-Dallas-Cowboys/3013396f-4039-4d4a-9384-6eee234d3162 And here are some legitimate pieces on Jeremy Zuttah performance this season. At the half way point JZ and Kyle had the two highest grades on our entire offense including Yanda. He was able to achieve this grade even though his first four game were very shaky. https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-eagles-rise-to-no-4-chiefs-to-no-10-in-pffs-nfl-power-rankings-for-week-8/ Since you were gracious enough to type out the quotes from those glorified bloggers I will do the same...... "Jeremy Zuttah has played well for much of the year" http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Ravens-Breakout-Sparked-By-Ronnie-Stanley-Offensive-Line/3faa870d-7652-4749-8795-c5317b1dc44c "Jeremy Zuttah is playing well at center (outside of his three penalties in Dallas)" http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Ravens-Running-Back-Tandem-Ready-To-Roll-In-December/9dd97b1f-8f89-48f7-9759-08b688794e04 I saw on another board that you were not only not happy with his performance this year but you also thought he played terrible last year. Here are some articles that clear that up. https://www.profootballfocus.com/10-best-sack-less-streaks-among-centers/ http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/nfl/4836/jeremy-zuttah "Prior to going down, Zuttah had graded out as PFF's No. 8 center, excelling both in the run and pass games."
  7. both of thsoe articles are talking about a single game and this is no excuse but two of the penalites against him during that game were bogus. He had three penalties that game but he has only had 5 penalties for the entire season. And I mentioned in my response Marshall Yanda has had just as many drive killing penalties as Zuttah. So if that is the only reason you think hes not playing well than Marshall not be playing well either. But what is it with the penalties thing do I have to show you your original comment again. Here it is. "It's not Stanley or Yanda that I have a problem with... It's the Center and the other side..... Those guys are doing a great job of keeping people off of Joe. Zuttah is constantly being pushed back into Joe." And I am going to sound like a broken record but my comment was a rebuttle about "Zuttah constantly being pushed back" In no part of your comment were penalties mentioned. Penalties did come up in your reply to my comment about JZ not playing poorly and here that is. "It's the penalties billiejean. They're drive killers. False starts... illegal formation." I was a bit confused when you changed the subject and started talking about penalties. So in my reply I had to touch on the issue because the only penalties that you did list were penalties that centers dont get flagged for. You totally changed the subject bring up penalties and then you mentioned two penalties that dont get called on centers. It was a double whammy of confusion. I will say that there is no question in my mind that Zuttah cost us the Dallas game but it was one game. It really doesn't matter at the end of the day but two of the penalites were bogus. The article below has a video of one of them and above the video the writer questions the call. I cant find any video of the other one at the moment. The video is under Item number 6. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Late-For-Work-1121-Eight-Takeaways-After-Cowboys-Beat-Ravens/65888879-6fdb-45a0-97cb-f528ce9bd55c
  8. Where did penalties come from? I could be overlooking something but I don't see penalties mentioned anywhere in your comment (posted above). I was specifically responding to your perception that Zuttah has been constantly pushed back into Joe, which just isn't true. When you have been one of the top 5 offensive players on the team for 7 of the last 10 weeks youre playing pretty well. The penalties that you mentioned "False starts... illegal formation" are rarely if ever called on the center and Zuttah has not been flaged for either of those infractions this season. And you are right penalties are "drive killers" but Zuttah has been responsible for just as many drive killers as Marshall Yanda has had this year. That said, for the first 4 games of the season Zuttah was not playing great football, and in ONE of those games he was pushed back and tripped Joe, on two separate occasions. I am not making excuses for the guy but during those first 4 games there was a revolving door at the two guard positions because of injuries. And in those instances there are bound to be some mistakes because they aren't used to playing together. We actually had a very similar conversation in week 4 except for the fact that we were talking about Yanda instead of Zuttah. You thought that he wasn't performing as well as he has in the past and I was trying to convince you that he was playing extremely well. But even when provided with quantitative (he was rated as the best guard in the league for all four of those games) data that went against your perception, it did little to change your mind. A similar scenario happened earlier this week in the J. Smith debate. In order to get to bottom of the debate someone took the time to crunch the numbers. Then the guy clearly stated how he calculated the data, but you refused to acknowledge it. In light of these two prior instances it was probably a bit foolish for me to even write reply to your comment because it won't change your thinking. I mean, if I can't convince you that Yanda is playing well, there is no way that I can make you think that Zuttah is playing well.
  9. You could be thinking about Vlad Ducasse. Zuttah had a rough beginning of the season and was affected by all of the injuries that we had. The injuries made the two guard spots next to him a revolving door of inexperienced players. In one game (in the first three games of the season) Zuttah played terribly and on two separate occasions he got pushed back into Joe. Since that time he has played well and has been rated as a top 5 player on the offensive for 7 of the last 10 match ups. He actually had me worried during this last game when he went out for two plays because of an injury. His replacement got man handled on both of those plays but luckily he came back in the next series. On the other side Rick Wagner had a rough game and gave up a sack but that was an anomaly. He is rated the 8th best RT in the league and probably has priced himself out of Baltimore.
  10. I am not so sure that every play call, Offense or Defense, is run by John before being sent in. But if they are I would love to here which plays, and in what situations that John has vetoed plays in the past.
  11. I wasn't saying that the offense played lights out. I said they played poorly or that they "suck". So I am not sure where our opinions differ. It is totally reasonable to be angry about the game. We played a terrible game, but it doesn't mean that every single person on the team played terribly. You seem to be inferring things from my comments that I haven't come close to saying and you are making less sense than you usually do. Either way I would suggest that you have a snickers and relax its almost Christmas.
  12. o-line is too inconsistent and flacco is below avg thus far running the offense. i pray he wakes up on xmas and gives us the best light show we have ever seen. maybe the receivers will show up and not drop passes as well how many dropped passes were there today?
  13. I am not sure why you think the receivers didn't play well.... on second thought I do know why, it is because you don't know what you're looking at and when the offense plays poorly you blame everybody including the coaches. Why you think you would be able to differentiate what faults are due to positional coaches rather than a players performance, when you clearly can not articulate what positional units either on offense or defense struggled, is beyond me. And as a unit the offensive line didn't play terribly. They werent outstanding but they were able to open up some holes in the running games. There were some issues in pass protection with the 3 sacks but I don't think all 3 can be attributed solely to the OL. That said Ducasse looks over-matched at times but there isn't anyone on our team that would be an upgrade over him. With all of that said I do find it strange that you chose to single out the offense. Yea Joe threw some ugly balls that ended up as points for the Eagles, but the defense was getting run over all game. Although the offense didn't do them any favors I think they played just as poorly as the O. How did Leslie Frasier do this game???
  14. It was just a bad decision. The ball was intended for Steve Smith who was running a deeper cross. He was covered really well but it did't matter because Hicks was playing zone and just read Joe's eyes which led him to the ball.
  15. The play calling towards the end was baffling. We must have had a lot of confidence in our defense (I am not sure why) the way our last offensive drive was called. I get that we were trying to be safe run the clock and try not to turn it over, but we really didn't make any legitimate attempt at getting that first down. It would have made more sense to me if we were on the 50 but we were pinned back and gave them good field position which they capitalized on.
  16. You're missing some very good insights into our team. It's a shame all you want is negativity. You're basically throwing out any reason to feel good about the team you claim to support. I don't read novels. Thank you. could have fooled me
  17. fusuyumada I hope you were able to see John Urschels two plays at center when Zuttah went down. He got absolutely demolished on both of them. Though, to be fair the second one was a screen and as an OL you are supposed to get demolished on screens. The first was a run in which he got driven back as soon as the ball was snapped about 7 yards into the backfield. We definitely got lucky this game but I'll take it. I hate to do this to Suggs but I gotta call him out. The guy was spying on the QB when Wence ran it into the endzone and he totally gave up on the play. The angle isn't great so i can't tell if he would have been able to make the tackle but it would have been close.
  18. Fusuymada my friend, your life will be much less stressful once you come to the realization that anything a coach or a player says to the media is a bunch of BS with tiny bits up truth sprinkled in between. And after you peal away the BS spewed by the source you have to navigate through the BS of the author. This is especially true when the author is employed by the entity that they are writing about (a Ravens reporter writing about the Ravens). Its all propoganda fusuymada and Eisenberg is the writer hired by the Ravens that is full of the most BS.
  19. so is it Engrams fault or Ozzies. Top pff grades for the game.... T Ronnie Stanley, 83.6 G Marshal Yanda, 81.7 FB Kyle Juszczyk, 81.6 T Ricky Wagner, 79.8 C Jeremy Zuttah, 76.8 The offensive line has played really well these last few games. You're inability to realize this isn't surprising. Blaming their supposed terrible play on the coach is par for the course. But PFF is probably BS right? You would do yourself well by trying to learn some of the fundamentals of each position so that you would know who is playing well and who is not. Looks like you guy Leslie Frasier has been thwarted once again by DP because when the defense plays well LF is responsible and when the D plays poorly DP is on the hook. Bobby Engram has nothing to do with Perrimans stats. His stats are a product of his snap count and the other receivers that are ahead of him. But you know best, we should probably just give all of MW snaps to BP. What Michael Thomas has to do with anything is beyond me. His production in NO offense has no bearing on what his production would be in our offense and I am not sure if you have seen but in light of said production NO is 5 and 8. Maybe we should just trade WR coaches with NO and that would solve all of our problems. While we are at it we should probably pick up Dallas' OL coach and the Pats QB coach.
  20. no belichick doesn't play games unless he is coming up with innovative ways to push the rules to their limits and confuse our defense
  21. You can't just assume Keenan is a better option than Hester based solely on his performance in college and the preseason. I would feel a lot more comfortable with Camp back there. KR is just so raw and kick returner is a position that requires a lot of concentration. But when you haven't returned kicks in college and your first experience playing that position is in the NFL there are going to be some mishaps. Trying to catch a ball while 11 men are running full speed towards you is something that is hard to get used to and can lead to lapses in concentration. Keenan will make a fine returner someday but at this point I would feel much more comfortable with camp.
  22. "But I think saying if they get injured they might not stay at that level is way unfair" I am not sure why that is unfair. It is just a fact and part of the game. I was saying this in response to your claim that Young and Dixon have been our best picks in years because really that statement only holds true if they continue to perform at a high level. And if they get injured they may not be able to do that.. There have been lots of players that have fallen off after their rookie season and its for a variety of different reasons. I am just cautioning you not to count your chickens before they hatch, thats all. I am not saying they haven't played well this season. Unfortunately BWILL is gone, and it sucks but its going to happen. The sooner people come ot that realizatin the less upset they are going to be when it happens Hopefully Pierce can soften the blow a little bit. These are the tough decisions that the front office has to make and if you look at the big picture I think you will come to realize that its a necessary evil.
  23. sarcasm my friend.... sarcasm
  24. lets just hope leslie frasier can keep us in the game tomorrow
  25. very good point about Yanda being beside Stanley! zutta seemed to play better last weekend but need more from him. Zuttah has been playing really well. It is difficult for me to believe that you are able to evaluate an offensive lineman if you don't even know that #57 (a former first round draft pick and pro bowler) is an inside linebacker
