  1. Can someone please post a pic on twitter of the guy who pushed off on Perriman (right in the back with arm extended) to make that interception. It was why Breshad didn't make the catch and the Browns guy did. Flagrant, the only reason for the interception, and not called. I want to show that to Browns fans when they are whining about the taunting.

As sad as it is and the day is coming, there are some guys that we would want to stay around that are going to be playing in a different colored jersey this year.

Butler may be the first. With Perriman off PUP, and unless Pitta goes on it, there isn't much hold out that Butler will be here. He's good enough to play, and when Camp or Perriman get injured we are going to wish we kept 7 WRs but right now, the numbers game got him.

I am not sure at this point if Buck Allen is going to make the team. Little to no production in the preseason, he really is doing nothing special to stand out above West and Dixon and that roster spot is precious. I think he makes it but to me he is really pushing it.

Elam is a foregone conclusion. Too many good players to waste a spot on the 53 for someone out for two months, if we put Pitta on the IR designated to return then Elam can't be on it, I say he plays somewhere else.

Jeremy Zuttah is not a name often heard of good or bad but based on what I have seen in preseason, after returning from an injury, Urschel beats him hands down as a center. Zuttah is getting manhandled, snaps are all over, he just doesn't look to me like a guy we need to keep with his salary and his production when Urschel has proven he can do it, and do it well.

Kyle Arrington. With his injuries and his play, along with some good young talent at CB this experiment has run its course. He may not even catch on somewhere else so he may not even be in another uniform this year.

Kendrick Lewis. This is where I am stumped. I spend a lot of time re-watching games on the NFL game pass app I have and he was just plain horrible last year. From what I have seen so far, he isn't any better. I don't know why he is, where he is on the depth chart. At the end of last year I couldn't even imagine he would be here for training camp, yet he is slated to make the roster. If anyone has seen anything Kendrick Lewis has done, please let me know because I have been watching and watching and I can find nothing.

    Sorry for the length...

The new rule says you don't need to specify who returns from IR, you can bring back any one (1) player who was on IR, no designation needed.

Plus, if Butler keeps doing what he is doing, he is making the team unless he really screws up something on special teams.

  3. Boconnor yes Westminster college is in western Maryland and Western Maryland College was/is in Westminster Maryland but some guy paid about 10 Million to have the name changed to McDaniel College about 10 years ago. I wonder how long the terms of the vanity naming are for and how everyone who has a diploma that says Western Maryland College on it feels about the name change.

Still it was awesome while it lasted to be able to go stand so close and watch the live practices in my home town. To listen to players like Mike Flynn describe the conditions in less than pleasant terms makes me think that the current players are lucky to have the castle.

"What Marc Trestman’s Gameplan Should Be This Year: Feed. Dem. Backs."

I'm not sure that would warrant having a 100M+ QB at helm.

I agree and I think people aren't giving enough attention to the tight ends. Boyle, Waller, and Brown all made great plays and the players at the position were consistently open. It was a thing of beauty after seeing targets disappear last season. I think Flacco will have a bunch of intermediate threats with tight ends to overpower defenders. Also I can't wait to see Wallace play more than a couple snaps. I want to see Mallett fling the ball at him deep to open up the running game even more.

Based on the proposed 53 man roster (listed in LFW yesterday), not one receiver of the 6 expected to be on the team played last night. Might be one reason we didn't throw downfield. The only WR I know who caught the ball was Butler. Waller is listed as a TE. I think Williams and Boyle, more TEs, caught some passes as well. Other than the backs I think those were the only few who caught the ball. I can't imagine with our "real" WRs out there we would run quite as much. So to say we don't need a 100+ million dollar QB, isn't taking into consideration that it was Mallett out there not Flacco, and certainly not taking into consideration who the opponent was. And are you going to run down by two TDs in the fourth quarter. Finally, if you saw Wallace play a couple snaps, thats amazing, he wasn't even suited up... .

Two things on the lack of deep balls. 1. The Ravens must have a plan to get the ball out of Joe's hands as quick as possible to leave him less exposed to big hits. 2. The Ravens are not going to give away any real deep ball routes and tactics in the pre-season or open camp practices. Doesn't mean they won't run a generic go route or two, but if they are planning something with them, don't expect to see it until the real games begin in September. I'm OK with them showing no cards until then, even though it would be exciting to watch right now.

  5. Could the Ravens possibly trade a TE or RB? I just wonder due to the logjam at those position groups. Maybe not TE right away, but so many teams are hurting at RB and TE that it makes me worried we will loose them to like Pittsburgh, esp. TE since they have like Jesse James and then their Fry Cook and grounds keeper backing him up with L. Green being unable to get on the field.

  6. I have to disagree with Eisenberg on the RB situation. I watched the game at a bar near the stadium and during the game many people including me said that Kennith Dixon looks ready and Allen & West are mediocre at best. First of all good RB's dont run East & West.

One of them took a run out of a clear hole and ran it into the line (I think Allen). Dixon looked like his college self, running the ball to the sides way too often, other than the one nice run up the middle. Hopefully he can get cured of that. West looked good, he did kind of play it like a game, meaning some runs not for much, but if he were l ad back that is just fine in the first half to punish the defense while getting his feel for the game and set up longer runs later. I liked West then Allen and Dixon last night. West is gunning for Justin's job. We are stronger with all our tailbacks doing well.

  7. The value of Tucker IMHO is his clutch kicking, not the distance kicking. He does not appear to get rattled and thrives in the situations of highest pressure, seeming to deisre them. That is what NE paid Gostkowski for, not his distance kicks. This is also the skill that is seemingly the toughest to evaluate new kickers for. At the end of the day I think they should pay him well and keep him. I'm not worried if they tag him this year and have to tag him again, but the eventual deal he will get will keep going up. If it were me, I would pay him now, rather than wait when the total cost of the deal will keep rising due to increased cap. Don't pull what the O's did to Musina.

  8. I don't know it this is true or not, but this is ripped directly from a commenter on Florio's trash heap. It sounds like a packers fan or a FF nerd supporting the reasoning for Crosby comparison. I still think they should just pay him, but it makes no sense for Tucker not to play franchise tag for at least two years. I can't beleive he wouldn't sign it.

All the NBA contracts, taken out of the fewer players so larger slices of the pie contect, really infected NFL players agents thinking on contracts.

Ravens, I hope you pay the man, but 2 franchise years (backed up/ with a kicker UDFA signed after the draft next year in camp so he can't threaten not to sign the tag) would be fine too. Tucker/Tucker agent, if true, not a good plan to threaten Ozzie if Tucker wants to stay in Baltimore.

    The stats quote:

    [Tucker had]
"Lower % of kicks made last year compared to Mason.
Shorter longest kick made last year compared to Mason.
WAY lower % of kicks made 50+ than Mason.

Both were the same on PAT – tho Mason had to kick a few more of them as the Packer’s O scored more often than the Ravens."

  9. I hope not, but I can't help but wonder if the Ravens want to see if last year was a result of his new marriage or really was just an off year for him (the entire team was snake bitten and star crossed with some patriots sponsored voodoo jinx thrown in). He was still excellent last year despite the weird misses (and 12 inch deep pothole in the SF turf). I think personally, that it was a lone hiccup for him that was in line with the weird Ravens 2015 season.

I Just want the team and Tucker to work out a great deal for both parties and to never hear the name Cundiff compared this way to Tucker again. I didn't want him in the first place after seeing what he did in Dallas, his shanks were present then for those with eyes.

Whenever it gets done, fine, just let's lock up the Matt Stover successor and hope he more than surpasses the tall task to outshine that amazing Raven.

I don't know what Darren tested positive for but he can get over it. Everyone deserves a second chance to especially for a first drug abuse test in the nfl.

In order to be suspended 4 games, a player must be in the Stage 2 of the intervention program - which means this is at least Waller's 3rd failed drug test.

1st fail = Entered into Stage 1, Fine, No suspension
2nd fail (during Stage 1) = Fine, No Suspension, Entered into Stage 2
3rd fail (during Stage 2) = Fine, 2-4 Game suspension
4th fail (during Stage 2) = Fine 4-6 Game Suspension, Entered into Stage 3
5th fail (during Stage 3) = Fine, 1 Year Suspension (10 Games for weed), Random unannounced drug tests

If a player completes the Stage (Stage 1 = 90 Days/Stage 2 = 2 Years) without a positive test, then he starts over from the beginning - meaning the next positive test starts again at Stage 1. A player in Stage 3 will always be in Stage 3 for the rest of his career.

    Interesting

I think the lack of consequences (no game or dollar cost) maybe contributes. Still I wish him well and hope he gets it now.

  11. Potential trades could occur at WR, TE and RB before the end of the preseason. Trade(s) for draft picks would make sense IF, big if, we have a lot of depth at each position since we have a derth of comp picks this coming year.

Last time this sort of trade potential was projected with copious amounts of depth at a position (49'ers joint practice), both Urban and KLM went down. So I'm saying that to prevent a potential jinx. I'll take too much depth over not enough any day of the week, twice on Sundays.

Still I bet Denver (uuuuggh hurts to say it, I leave out the derogatory comments about Elway) I bet would love to get Forsett from us if we project Allen, West and Dixon as fully ready to go (let alone if a miracle happens and TR suddenly looks like his college self and is not injured). Forsett I see as the most trade-able player even though he is the one I would least like to see go in a trade. I think his mentorship and attitude alone are a bargain for his salary, this leaves alone his extreme toughness and Raven like play, he is a real leader and it would hurt to see him go. But Kubiak loves him and Denver I still think is hurting at RB. I would love it if we could trade Talliaferro, I don't think we will but he would be the RB I would be up for trading first. He is too similar to JA, and TW with less upside (maybe more downside than TW since West is not as fumble prone, nor as prone to go down on first contact). I really see TW as making the team and needing to trade a RB if we don't keep 4. JF, TW, J(B)A, and KD. I see this group as the second most potential for being savaged by other teams plundering guys we cut if we don't trade someone.

At WR, Campanero I see as the most tradeable WR and second most tradeable player. If Butler or Waller can fill that role, and he is not injured in TC or PS games I see him as an asset that would be desired by teams like the Cheifs, Buffalo (though we play them first game so little desire to send him there before the season starts), NO, Detroit, GB, etc.... Any team with a need at slot WR or a QB who needs short yardage sure hands. NE would grab him instantly but I see them as a team with no trade potential for us now or in the near future. At WR I see this as the group least likely to trade from, even though we seem to have the most overstock.

At TE I think we would have to be offered a lot of value for any trade unless it was for Watson and even then, the team that wanted him would have to be desperate (all TE on their squad went down and they are planning around them), they would likely want Gillmore or Williams in that case which I don't see us trading unless it is a King's ransom. Still a trade could happen from this group to avoid being plundered. It seems like we will be forced to trade in this position group if no injury and we don't want to be pillaged. Any trade will hurt here, but we might be able to extract the most value from another team.

All this presumes no injury and excellent play from all players forcing things to come to a head.

    What do you think?

  12. For those fans who thought on draft night - and maybe still think - that Ozzie should have gone for Tunsil: he is reported to have had a mediocre camp at most, getting most of his reps with the second team, although the Phins don't really have a stout LT ahead of him. Also, his coaches hinted at him having a hard time adjusting to the NFL level...

This is of course, way, way too early to know anything about where these guys are gonna be in the ir progress when Week #1 comes - but it looks evident that Stanley is off to a much better start than Tunsil...

Where did you find this information? I would like to read up on that. I'm in the camp in that thought that the Ravens wouldn't take him due to the dv background, not the bong video. Plus his rampant injury history.

  13. Here is how I see it shaking out on the "O" Side

    Locks:
    RB’s:
Justin Forsett, Buck Allen, and Kenneth Dixon

    TE’s:
Benjamin Watson, Crockett Gilmore, Maxx Williams, Pitta, Dennis (if he shows old Pitta) you only have two truly heathy TE's.

    WR’s:
Steve Smith, Mike Wallace, Kamar Aiken, Breshad Perriman, Chris Moore

    Special Teams:
    Keenan Reynolds
    Kaelin Clay
    Darren Waller

    PS:
Lorenzo Taliaferro, Jeremy Butler, Daniel Brown

    Cut:
Chris Matthews, Terrance West, Trent Richardson

    ?:
    Michael Campanaro

    Suspended:
    Nick Boyle

The RB situation is precarious. All the backs we have are very similar smallish pass catching backs, none save mabye West or maybe Richardson are power backs, even then they have qualifier statements on how they would be a power back.

Assuming all perform well: It would surprise me if Forsett, Allen or Dixon were cut, something weird would have to happen and I just don't see it. Forsett because he has proven himself, a high quality leader and tough as nails and is cheap (even though he is not on a rookie deal). Allen because he will be given a second year crack at it. Dixon because he will get chances in his first year to get through conditioning next off season. He could have an injury and be red shirted though, but I think he makes it.

Taliaferro is like Fitz Toussant, goes down too quickly on first contact and he has a fumbling problem. I don't see him making the roster. I don't think he is a bad guy, just too similar with the disadvantage of slightly more down side to him than the others (except TR) so he will likely be eliminated.

West on the other hand is potentially the most interesting prospect we have at RB. The Ravens wanted to draft him and use his native son angle to get the best from him, but the Browns swooped in thinking they would screw the Ravens and took him instead. He was doing well to start but Pettine and crew didn't like it when he wanted to be lead back and platooned him with Crowell leading to problems for both. Then they cut him his second year due to attitude problems. He went to Jacksonville and had no motivation and was picked up by the Ravens when he went to their PS (?, I think, it is either that or they claimed him off waivers before he made it onto the PS). Form all reports on him I've read (twitter and the like from people around him at minicamp) plus over the break, he has been working like mad at putting on muscle, getting in crazy good shape, and his own statments indicate he is eating up the native son angle (meaning he is home, surrounded by a great support network and family, and using that as strength to work even harder). He is also being quiet and not saying much, just working. He knows, like TR, that this is may/could be his last shot (labeled as attitude problem and non-productive). I think will give the Ravens serious questions about keeping 4 running backs. All accounts have him doing very well. Its a nice story to root for this guy since he is a hometown product.

Trent Richardson - also interesting, he seems to be backing his words up about giving everything and really working with his actions. However he is getting older (for a RB) thought not too old. Coaches comments seem to agree with this too. So signs are positive. However him not working out like a fiend constantly for his whole career, instead seems he has really been after it only since the first talks with the Ravens, may be catching up to him with these injuries. Not his fault, just working so hard without long term conditioning may be taking its toll. This would be a really great story if he is able to pull himself up by his bootstrings and make the roster after his initial downfall. What really intrigues me is that he seems well managed psychologically by Harbs. Given limited appropriately warranted praise and positive support along with tough love honesty. I hope he can make it interesting by fighting thought this latest injury and keeping it going. What is the saying, always take a chance on another team's first round pick.

I wish all the RB we have the best of luck and good competition. I don't have bad feelings about any of them, all seem to be doing what they should for their own personal situations.

All of this assumes health of the RBs is OK, if someone goes down, depending who it is, a lot could change. I just like that we have so much good competition with the RB, WR and TE groups this year. It is always good to stack depth because injuries, like winter, are coming.

  14. For everyone wondering what is going on, please go to the rosterwatch link I posted before that cites three or four well known nfl doctors who have commented on the situation. It really is an outstanding piece and discusses mri results why things played out the way they did, why teams say suspected tear even if they know it is a total tear. It will clear things up for you. I think the best possible result was obtained here. I think the best course of action now is to keep praying, keep supporting Breshad, and move forward with cautious optimism.

  15. Taliaferro is likely gone, he has demonstrated no upside over Allen (who all considered similar, will be be given his chance to prove enhancement in his second year) taliaferro is like Marlon Brown last year but with fewer spots to keep him. West and Richardson will compete to be the power back and try to make the Ravens keep four running backs. West looked very good his first year in Cleveland he was at least as good as Crowell but they went to a weird split time system and that hurt both backs mental development. This inept management continued and led to West getting upset and in pettine's dog house. This caused problems leading to his disillusionment and release which didn't have time to instantly resolve in Jacksonville but which are countered by being with his hometown team and closer to his family support system here in Baltimore. All snippets from trusted sources indicate he spent his time training all off season at the castle. West is imho the most interesting back to watch this training camp and preseason. I love the native son storyline wherever but especially when it's my home too. Richardson is the wildcard, it will depend on his return to college form and will to play. Interesting to watch too, I really hope he does well. Dixon would have to play poorly, fumble constantly and have a poor attitude to get cut or not be IR'ed due to an injury that pops up.

  16. Think about what this kid has been through in the last year. Drafted in the first round with tremendous hope. Coached from a young age by Michael Irvin. He gets a PCL first day of TC. His best friend on the team who helped bring him back from the depression about the injury is killed in a horrible and tragic bike accident. Then his father suffers a brain aneurysm, nearly dies, and is still in the in patient facility in recovery for it. Finally he gets back to the one thing he loves, is doing well, everyone saying how good he looks, and finds his knee swelling up and on MRI that he has another partly torn Knee ligament. So he has to go through this all over again but this time with a shattered support network. Devastated isn't strong enough of a word for what he must be going through. If you pray now seems like the time.
