  1. Who said he's the "next best thing"?!??!? I only mentioned him as a competitor for a roster spot - if he's healthy (which I clearly stated).
  2. I think the most obvious one is Jah Reid. I'll throw is more surprising one in - DeAngelo Tyson. He started strong last year, but fading into oblivion and the end of the bench by the end of last season. If - and this is the real qualifier - if Urban and KLM can prove healthy, and with 2 draft picks added in, I think Tyson could be vulnerable, especially if he doesn't show better than he was apparently showing at the end of 2014.
  3. Elam's base salary is guaranteed, so I really don't see them paying him over $1M to not be here. My guess is he gets this year to prove his worth, if not, next year's base salary is non-guaranteed and he's gone.
  4. LOL, someone's got waaaaaay, waaaaaay tooooo much time on their hands!
  5. Aaron Wilson @RavensInsider · 2h 2 hours ago Kyle Arrington passed his physical and has signed his three-year contract that averages $2.5 million per year and includes $2 million bonus Jeff Zrebiec @jeffzrebiecsun · 1h 1 hour ago Contract includes $2.8 million guaranteed ($2 million signing bonus and 800,000 first year salary) Brian McFarland ‏@RavensSalaryCap · 2m2 minutes ago With a $2M bonus and a $800K base salary for 2015 (as reported), CB Kyle Arrington will have a 2015 Cap number of $1,466,666. Brian McFarland ‏@RavensSalaryCap · 6m6 minutes ago With Arrington now signed, Ravens should be ~$7.385M under the Cap at this point. http://russellstreetreport.com/salarycap/
  6. The final number are in: Aaron Wilson @RavensInsider Lardarius Webb's $2.25M salary 2015 full gtd, gets $3M roster bonus April, $750K in incentives this year, $500K incentives 2016, 2017 Aaron Wilson @RavensInsider Lardarius Webb's new salary-cap figures in restructured dealt: $9.25 million, $9.5 million and $7.5 million, salaries $2.25M, $5.5M, $5.5M So, because the Bonus is a "roster" bonus and not a "signing" bonus, the Cap savings is only $2.75M. However, this adds no new Cap dollars onto future Caps, while is 2016 Cap number goes down by $2.5M and his 2017 Cap number goes down by $3M. Pretty good deal for the Ravens. Also, the roster bonus is due sometime in April, so conceivably, if they felt they needed more Cap space, they could convert that (prior to paying it) to a signing bonus and prorate it over the 3 years of the deal, creating an additional $2M in Cap space.
  7. Maybe, but they obviously value his play and his leadership on a DL that has no one with more than 3 years of experience and with 2 of the 6 returning DL coming off of injury. EDIT: With Guy re-signing, that makes it 2 of 7!
  8. Times change, needs change, prices change. When they cut him, they felt they were going to be holding onto Ngata. That didn't work out. Canty comes back for close to $1M less than he would have counted had he stayed, it's very possible that he would not have done so at the time he was released, but the market said otherwise.
  9. Interesting twist in Canty's deal - the 2016 "team option" of $150K. This has been done by NE in recent deals and allows them to decline option (Wilfork, Revis, Browner) and still retain Comp picks rights over the player since a "declined" option is not treated the same as a release. It amounts to the same thing, but for whatever reason, isn't treated the same. So, if there were to decline the option and Canty were to sign elsewhere in 2016, he would count as a loss for Comp pick purposes.
  10. His Cap number for 2015 is $1.75M, not $2.5M. The signing bonus of $1.5M is prorated to $750K each year. So, for 2015, it's $750K, plus the $1M base salary for $1.75M. So, it's about a $1M difference.
  11. To further that point, the net savings is even less because he presently counts amongst the top 51 Cap numbers on the team. So, under the Rule of 51, if he's released a new player is added as the 51st player. That player is presently making $510K. So, the net effect of cutting Pierce is really only $150K. That doesn't mean that Pierce may not get released at some point, but it will be for performance related reasons, and not a Cap decision.
  12. It may end up more in line with that given that reports are that part of it is "playing time incentives". So, it may be something like 2 years, $2M with $400K (or $1.6M with $800K) in playing time incentives that are only earned if he reaches certain PT thresholds. It could also be an escalator instead of incentives, so whatever the amount, that would increase his 2016 salary by that amount if earned in 2015. The good part of that is that it wouldn't be guaranteed, so they could cut him in 2016 and not pay him. But, that would only be if it was an escalator and not incentives. Probably a fair type deal for a guy like Levine - he gets paid extra if he plays more. Aaron Wilson reported a $400K bonus, so I would think that would be the only amount guaranteed. I'm thinking it'll be something like $400K bonus, with base salaries of $700K and $900K, with $400K in playing time incentives. So, that would be Cap numbers of $900K (2015) and $1.1M (2016).
  13. This. What Suggs did was simply take money that he was due in Sept-Dec and take it now. He's not taking less for the team, so to speak. It's easy for any player to do. That's totally different than what Ngata and Webb are currently involved in (especially Webb, who is truly being asked to take less).
  14. No details have been reported yet (that I've seen, at least). He was set to be an RFA and there was very little IMO chance he was even going to get the low tender (~$1.5M). No one would pay him that - especially coming off of an injury. They've done this a lot recently with lesser RFAs. As The Raven said above, he'll likely get a little more than the vet min in each of the 2 years and perhaps a small bonus ($100K?).
  15. LOL, to be clear, "bleak" was an editor's embellishment that has been removed!
  16. While I agree that teams like as little dead money as possible, there are times they just may have no choice. This, perhaps, may be one of them. Unless the Cap goes up substantially more than expected, they are going to be over the Cap upon tendering their ERFAs and RFAs, so they are going to have to find substantial Cap space in order to get under the Cap and free up space to sign/re-sign guys. The call with Webb is whether they feel he can recover AND stay healthy. If not, then they almost have to do something because of the Cap savings a post-June 1 release provides. I'm now leaning more towards a forced paycut (with incentives built into allow him to recoup that money) and if not, then a post-June 1 release. That $8M in June can be used to sign their rookies and the excess to carry into the season for injury replacements. Look at it this way, if they feel that Webb will not be a Ravens in 2016 - then they are going to have $6M in dead money in 2016 either way. So, if that's the case, then is Webb worth $8M this year or would they be better off using that $8M elsewhere? No, the money isn't available until June, but they can spend to the Cap until then, knowing they've got enough to cover the rookies and carry into the season when the $8M is freed up in June. Certainly not an optimal resolution, but perhaps the most practical.
  17. You got your wish. Ravens just announced that he's been signed to a 2015 Future contract. Baltimore Ravens ‏@Ravens 1m1 minute ago The Ravens have signed WR Aldrick Robinson to a Reserve/Future contract.
  18. Thinking Jason may have some inside info on this one, since this is the first I know of that Marrone has been mentioned. Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora 2m2 minutes ago I'd be shocked if Doug Marrone was not one of the first candidates the Ravens look to as offensive coordinator. If not the 1st candidate .
  19. Yeah, who knows? It's also possible that he might have decided to look elsewhere for a better opportunity. As a Ravens fan, that kind of sounds funny, but right now Robinson would be 7 down the depth chart (SSSr, Brown, Aiken, Jacoby, Campanero, Butler) and you've got to figure that if Torrey isn't re-signed they are going to sign/draft a WR. So, that would push Robinson even further down.
  20. At least for 3 of those 5 - 2 OL and a RB - they were signed really late when injuries to Wagner, Monroe and Taliaferro happened. So, they may just have been signed as insurance, as opposed to coming in for a real look (although, there's nothing saying they can't be signed tomorrow or sometime later). In fact, the DE they just signed, Thompson, was actually released from the PS when they signed the 2 OL, so he wasn't even on the PS anymore.
  21. Torrey will easily command more than a 1-year deal. Maclin was coming off of injury and didn't play in 2013. Nicks didn't find much interest on the FA market, also due to his injury history. Torrey has his issues, but I don't think he will have to bet on himself like those two did because neither of the other two really had any option but to go the 1-year deal route. Torrey will get decent multiple year offers. They may not be what he would have expected at this time last year, but he'll still get very solid offers.
  22. Spotrac is not the most reliable source when it come to the a Ravens Cap. Over The Cap is a much better source, but they are also a little off for the Ravens. The Ravens are currently $4.3M under the Cap.
  23. Oh, I agree. People keeping throwing his name around as a guy who is going to be (or could be) cut, but if that was the case, they would have done so before paying him the $500K roster bonus.
  24. Releasing Canty frees up only $2M in Cap space (since we're now after June 1). Given that they paid him a $500K roster bonus in March, I would expect that they have every intention of keeping him (but you never know, I guess).
