he is as good as gone and it does suck
Tough loss but I'm optimistic we can find a similar value vet later in the FA game. I also think Pitta will be back next season which would be tremendous from an offensive weapon perspective.
At least his 1 year of productivity @ $1M will lead to a 6th or 7th round comp pick. Ravens should be at +3 right now losing Torrey, Pernell and now likely Owen.
Andre's still got it in him and if you put him with a Flacco type QB I think you have 100+ catches next season.
I don't think we go a penny higher than the rumored $35/5 year deal for Torrey. If he signs that I think you can rule out Andre as that would be too much spent on the WR's.
If anything this gives us more leverage against Torrey who I think deep inside wants to stay. It is probably his agent Drew holding out at the moment for a better offer.
We can probably get Andre for a $15-20M/3 year type of deal with a cap hit similar to Torrey in years 1 & 2. Draft a WR in Round 1 and run with Steve Smith/Andre Johnson/Rookie WR/Michael Campanaro/Kamar Aiken/Vet FA Signing.
I see no reason why Andrew wouldn't strongly consider us and probably even take a little less for a legitimate shot at a championship. I can't see him joining any QB weak teams or any non contenders at this point in his career.
If James would re-sign for the vet minimum I think he would be a solid backup to have with the potential to step in to play at any moment.
Dare I say it ... what about bringing back #20 to patrol centerfield? Pairing him with a 2nd year Matt Elam at SS might make him look a lot better. He still puts fear in the eyes of opposing QB's who avoid his side of the field and I think he picked up 3 INT's in his last 4 games so clearly still has the ball skills.
I wouldn't mind a rotation of Elam, Reed, Ihedigbo, Omar Brown ... and maybe a mid-round FS prospect battling it out for 4 roster spots.
Let's go #agent89 - he ain't leaving the Castle without signing a deal.
Steve Smith - come on Ravens! He's built to be a Raven and should have another 2-3 years of productivity the way he stays in shape and runs his routes. He's a perfect complement to Torrey, Marlon and Jacoby. Hopefully he's sign for less so we can load up some more for another run at the Super Bowl.
If someone like Lee drops to us in the first round, I still think we draft him cause we can use the influx of talent. Smith would be a great mentor for him the next few seasons. Or we can go the Ebron route for our 2 TE sets but I have a feeling we'll end up signing Daniels to pair with Pitta given his familiarity with the system.
If Lee is gone, I say we trade back or draft D i.e. playmaking safety. And hope we can grab "potential" or "project" type receiver like Benjamin, Beckham, etc. later in the 1st or with our second round pick.
Steve Smith and Owen Daniels would be great vet pickups that would not only produce but act as good mentors for our rookie class and younger players.
Let's make it happen Ozzie.
Daniels should come cheap and makes perfect sense with the Kubiak connection. I can see our red zone offence being deadly with Pitta & Daniels 2 TE sets.
Smith was meant to a Raven with his swagger and attitude. Gives us what we lost with Boldin and Mason the last few seasons.
I hope Monroe does not walk along with our 4th and 5th round draft picks.
I think the Ravens make a reasonable offer in the $7-8 million range. If he ends up signing with another team for $9-10+ million we let him walk. The bright side of that scenario is he will likely be amongst the highest paid free agents and could net us a third round 2015 comp pick. So essentially we traded a 2014 5th rounder for half a season and a leg up chance of re-signing him.
Ozzie and Co. are too smart to break the bank all on one player when they know they have a good chance of hitting another diamond like Daryl Smith from the FA market.
We also have Michael Oher who we haven't heard much about so maybe Ozzie has some tricks up his sleeve. I'd like to see:
Pitta - 4 years, $19 million
Monroe - 5 years, $37 million
Oher - 3 years, $18 million
Smith - 2 years, $6 million
Draft Marquise Lee in the 1st round.
Let's get'er done.
Leach's cap number is 2.3M I don't see us keeping him when we have Juice on the roster and Harbaugh said we would utilize him more. Not to mention that we are mostly running with a 1-back set.
I get it that the new OC and Leach have history but forgot what report said something that stuck with me. In the last 6 weeks of the season he was only used on 10% of the plays something along the lines of 45 snap out of 4xx. If we are cutting Koch I'm all for cutting leach as well. He has done nothing to make me scream to not cut him
I would be approaching Leach for a "restructure" type of deal where he reduces his base salary from $1.75 million down to the vet minimum or he is cut. This would free up $750K and his cap charge would only be $1.6M. I think he would be wise to take the deal to stay a Raven and play in a system he is familiar with. I doubt he will be getting any bigtime offers on the open market much greater than the miminimum and the odds of him playing here are much higher than with other teams.
Per Albert Breer: "Ravens' reworked deal with Terrell Suggs is worth roughly $28 million over its 5 years, with $16 million fully guaranteed in first 2 years." "The $16M guarantee for Suggs is a win for the player. Generally, Ravens have done injury guarantees for vets. This one is a full guarantee."
Sizzle is back!
And Andrew Brandt of ESPN reports: "Suggs was to make $7.8M this year. Will now make $12M; $11M signing bonus + $1M salary. $4M 2015 salary guaranteed. $16M/2 yrs." "Suggs also has three non-guaranteed years, from 2016-2018, worth $21 million. At his age, that income fairly speculative."
So who knows what numbers to believe ... I'm sure they will come out at some point this afternoon.

Great value for a solid player in his prime. Love our FO.
