I love Floyd's speed and I never like the idea of using fit as an excuse against someone, but I just don't know if I like him here. I try to not get caught up on the details but I don't know many if any successful edge defenders that have such a height-weight combination. I'll support Floyd if we draft him because I trust the Ravens; however, Calhoun posted a very good 3-cone drill and he is plenty fast. I may have been wrong about Calhoun more than others, but we'll see. I think I was perhaps a bit too hard on him and his first step and perhaps didn't evaluate him enough. After watching him a bit more, I owe that guy (whoever said he had a good first step) an apology because Calhoun is a better, faster athlete than I originally believed.

I'd prefer Calhoun to Floyd, personally. Not just scheme fit but as a whole, I like him [Calhoun] better. I just don't like my edge defenders taller than 6-3 unless they have the height-weight combination. Bosa is a bit of an exception but he tests very well athletically and he has much better height-weight combo.

I'm in the same boat, I like him alright but I'm not sure if he fits. The only height weight combo I can think of off the top of my head that was successful as a pass rusher was Jason Taylor but he was a 4-3 DE, and these lighter pass rusher rarely turn into quality players, I really can't think of anyone recently who played edge rusher at under 240lbs in college who made a difference in the pros.

glad to see people coming around on Calhoun too, I think he'd be a really good complementary pass rusher, if we could grab Bosa then trade back into the mid to late second round with our 3rd rounder for Calhoun I'd be very happy.

  2. With Will Hill cut, i want Jack a lot more than I did, he could fill the role Hill did covering TEs and such, and I really think he could still be there at 6 I mean ILBs rarely go in the top 5 and considering he's still injured I think there's a possibility he makes it to 6, it's all gonna depend on the jags, but if Ozzie sees Jack as the talent that everyone is hyping him up to be I'd try to pull a trade up with Dallas if the Browns don't go QB in the first.

It depends on the pieces, if it's Buckner he gets the single gap matchup with the strongside guard, if it's a 4-3 under, hybrid or 3-4 variants he plays DE, if it's a traditional 4-3 he plays base end. Bosa's best fit would be on either side but preferably sam LB

I think if we went Buckner we stay with more 3-4 looks, and I don't see any reason to put Bosa as a Sam if we switch to a 4-3 he's obviously best as a DE, I think going with a 4-3 over could be realistic, but not the way your saying we should configure our personnel.

if we were to do it, say we got Bosa, he and Suggs would man the end positions Jernigan at 3t and Williams playing nose, but we don't have someone to play Sam, just because they are often on the LOS doesn't mean they don't have to drop into coverage, I think Leonard Floyd would make a great Sam/situational pass rusher but right now we don't have someone like that.

the team that comes to mind when I think of this defense is the 2013 Broncos, they had 2 3-4 DEs who were on the lighter side (285lbs) then a typical 4-3 DE with Phillips a good NT with Knighton and a beast Sam with Miller, Doom could probably match Phillips in the pass game and Suggs Bosa or Buckner could match Malik Jackson/Wolfe's role but we don't have a versatile guy like Miller.

A 4-3 over uses 3-4 personnel. Davis would line up over the TE and force a double team, that opens up a one on one inside and the Sam LB

I still don't think Davis would fit that roll, I think a player like Buckner or even Bosa would be better off. And in this scenario whose playing Sam?

It depends how disruptive he can be, we're going to see a lot more 4 man fronts this season. If we play 4-3 over he would play two gap DE over the TE.

I don't think we'd put a 320lb man at DE in a 4-3, I think he'll just be a rotational player at DT if we play more 4-3.

^^Do you have any opinions on Leonte Carroo? People I respect have said good things but I haven't seen any of him yet.

The Ravens usually wait until draft day to squash my hopes of a good WR early in the draft. Mike Wallace is the death knell for that idea, though knowing this FO that weren't going to happen anyway. Damn shame as Treadwell will be the last time we have any chance at a WR of his caliber for the next decade at least. The worst part about all of it isn't that we're overpaying or even that Wallace likely won't produce, it's that I still really hate this guy from his time with the Steelers and have been really enjoying his sputtering out of the league. Now I don't even have that.

Im a huge fan of Caroo, I would love it if we got him in the 3rd, he is a complete receiver he can do a little bit of everything he reminds me a little of Aiken only way more polished and a better deep threat coming out of college.

Is Bosa presumed to play opposite Suggs? Is he then to move inside with Dumervil on the field? rush Suggs from inside and have Bosa on the edge at times?

I think this is the most logical way to use him, imagine obvious passing downs with Suggs Bosa Doom and Jernigan getting after the QB, I think Bosa could slide to DE on early downs every once in a while and let Z Smith play OLB if we don't resign Upshaw.

Love it nice job Grim. I'd love to bring a training camp battle at LG. Westerman could be in the mix as well.  Don't know much about Sean Davis can he return punt ? I like Cyrus Jones because he would filled the returner spot as well as slot CB right away. Sheldon Day I'm with you he brings nice inside pressure. I love Beavers feet as well.

As for the guy playing with Mosley, I'm a bit high on Deion Jones, maybe I'm the only one but he looks like a BALLER.

Thanks. I think Deion Jones is out of grasp. I think that guy is a 2nd round pick

As always you are the man!! My personal touches I would pick Deion Jones in round2

Suprised to see so many people high on Jones, I guess Arizona kinda opened eyes with Bucannon in a 3-4 and a really undersized LBs, but I agree I think Jones is gone before our 3rd, I like Montese Overton though as a later round guy undersized like Jones but an absolute flyer around the field.

  9. Love it. Would love if Bosa fell, Fuller could be a good backup plan for Wright in the first year at least, I've always been a huge fan of Brothers even though I think we need more athleticism he's just a beast. And Sean Davis is one of my favs and I like him at safety though I think he could go higher.

Conklin is one of the best LT in this class. I'm surprised he gets so little love here.

Im a big fan of his but I think the lack of love is mostly due to position and his draft stock, just high enough to be a reach with our first but no way he makes it to the second.

It's not the sexiest pick but I look at Malik Jackson getting that 85M dollar contract and have to think to myself that a dominate 3-4 DE still carries a lot of value in today's NFL.. From what I've  watched of Buckner is the real deal. Are you not a fan of Buckner or don't think his position carries enough value to go that high?

For what it's worth Mayock said:   "Buckner is one of the guys we'll be looking back at that will be in the conversation as the best defensive player to come out of this draft"

Agreed. I still love Buckner and would gladly take him over Stanley and VH3, only thing that made me cool on Buckner a little was his agility drills, but he is still a top 5 player of mine, if Cleveland doesn't take a QB and the big 5 are gone I'm gonna be disappointed, because I still can't buy into Stanley it's not the position, just not a huge fan of his.

  12. I like this signing decent low price deep threat with still some left in the tank, people seem to forget that while he didn't live up to a 60m contract he still had 2 solid years in Miami in offenses he didn't really fit in. I think he could flourish here as long as he keeps his ego in check.

Am I the only one who see's us using Webb the way Arizona uses Mathieu. I agree Webby needs to take a pay cut and i think he will take one, but I see those 3 together as a scary force in the secondary. Maybe it's because I'm a huge Webb fan since 2011 but I'm praying he's still a Raven next year.

I don't think Webb is as scrappy as Mathieu, but yeah I think he could play a similar role, I think having Weddle Hill and Webb on the field at the same time is a huge plus because they are all interchangeable.

  14. This is a good signing. Just because we have quantity at safety doesn't mean we have quality, Weddle is quality. And even if Webb looks good at safety or Brooks sees the light, that doesn't mean they'll be rotting on the bench, there is such a thing as having more than 2 safety's on the field at a time.

I know I doubted he'd come here, whether I said that publicly or not. I thought he was all about the money after his little debacle earlier in the year with SD last year and would't want to come here on a cheaper contract. I have to say I think we got him for a steal at the moment for $6.5M/yr average.

Tbh that's only a little bit cheaper than I thought, I posted in one of the threads about the secondary that we could probly get him in the 7m a year range, and I got roasted for it lol. When I heard we were one of the final teams I had a strong feeling we could grab him, he was really disrespected in SD so I'm sure SSS informed him of how we treat our players and I think that was probably a factor.

  16. Id really like to go back and say I told you so to the people on this board who assured me there was no way Weddle would be a raven lol.

But really glad he's on the team he's gonna help us out a lot even if he's a little older, if we  get an elite defensive player in the draft I think we could be a top 5 defense, plus he picked us over a division rival it's a win-win in my book.

Frazier is a Tampa 2 guy and Pees ran the 4-3 in NE when he was there.

I've said for some time that I think Jack could be an ideal fit in the Tampa 2 and that if the Ravens wanted to make the switch, this would be the year because you could get a player like Jack and then a corner like Fuller in rounds one and two and have two tailor made players.

That is the only time I'd support taking Myles Jack.

Jack and Fuller would be beasts in a Tampa 2 defense, and the whole philosophy of that defense is speed and ball hawking, it would really help our turnovers I think, but anyone who hates the bend not break mentality would still hate the Tampa 2 because that's another philosophy that started with Kiffin when he created the Tampa 2.

Well speaking of potential trades, when Chip became GM of the Eagles, we basically called them the Ducks for the players Chip was interested in. Welp, now that Chip is with the Niners, maybe we want to resurface the Duck nickname. Why?

49ers and Chiefs are in potential trade talks with Chiefs OW De'Anthony Thomas.

Ive always though chip was a good coach, but man you'd think he'd learn after the first failure, I hope Baalke Keeps him in line.

  19. I like the mock, but there's a few things I'm not too sure about, the 49ers were shopping Kap so I think if Goff was there they'd take him. Also you have William Jackson taking a huge jump, I could see him in the first now but not sure about top 15 yet, even though I think he could be one of the best in the class.

and i have to say I'm not a fan of Bullard, he has a great first step and decent bull rush, but from what I saw he has no pass rush moves what so ever, i don't see the point of drafting someone in the second round who could be like Upshaw when we could resign him for cheap. I like pretty much every other player you mocked though.

Does Daryl Smith's release mean that Myles Jack becomes a more likely target for us on draft day?

I think it's more than likely a cap and performance move, he was being fased out more and more as the season went on, I think if we wanted jack we'd take him whether we had daryl or not.
