It doesn't make much sense to me.

NO reportedly turned down the Titans middle 1st rounder.

Then BB calls and offers the 32nd pick and they accept??? Makes zero sense.

I could understand maybe if they really wanted another mid round pick but they gave up their 4th to get the 3rd. Moves them up maybe 15-20 spots but it's not an extra pick.

The Titans pick was a WAY better offer if that report was true.

There's always the chance that that report was just bs. False rumors due tend to pop up around this time of year.

This makes our whole defense better. With Williams and Pierce clogging up the running lanes, it makes life a lot easier for our LBs and Safeties who can focus on shooting gaps more in the running game. Remember how our 2000 defense had the goose and Sam Adams up front? CJ is really happy we are bringing Williams back. Plus the run defense sets teams up in more 3rd and longs and that makes things easier on the defense

Williams is one of those guys that makes the jobs of everyone around him much easier. There's a reason there was a small bidding war for him. Hell, in the past Ray pounded the table to get a great NT to play in front of him.

funny thing is, now that all the guaranteed money has been eaten by the Texans and Browns... other teams are interested in trading for him.

Browns get a pick to acquire him, likely to get another pick for dishing him.

Absolutely brilliant move if it unfolds that way. Browns doing things differently. May not be laughing stock much longer. AFCN is getting realer. (Good thing Cinci's crapping the bed)

A lot of people mocked them for bringing in a baseball guy as their gm, but his strategies for them has actually been good so far.

I was thinking that it might alter our plans a little bit now since our Safeties are solid (Weddle and Jefferson), they'll help out the secondary which means we target a pass rusher instead of a DB in my opinion.

Even with improving the safety position we still need CBs.

Or melifonwu or Marcus Williams or Marcus maye or even take a mid-round flyer on Eddie Jackson

We could still take a flyer on Jackson. Weddle is up there in age, so Ozzie might want to get a guy that can step in for him in a couple years.

Well guys.... with doom gone I'm pretty sure we'll finally get a pass rusher in the 1st or 2nd round. Like a lot of people I'm hoping its Barnett in the 1st. I wonder who's penciled in dooms spot for now?? My guess is Matt Judon. Maybe Zadarious Smith might unleash the beast this year? Lots of questions....

Judon is probably penciled in at the moment.

  6. Figured another one was due now that the combine was over with.

Round 1: Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan

    corey-davis-nfl-draft-2017-western-michi

This pick is largely about team fit. Davis fits the Ravens like a glove in terms of mentality and the role he fills. He's the guy that will make the plays to keep drives alive. His change of direction speed is a lot better than most guys his size, giving him the ability to quickly get open. Most importantly, he tracks the ball very well and fights hard for the catch (a bit like Boldin). He can be the Mr. Reliable that you keep feeding the ball to while Perriman and Wallace act as the big play guys on the opposite side.

Round 2: Chidobe Awuzie, CB, Colorado

    9545557-wilton-speight-chidobe-awuzie-nc

A solid athlete with great instincts. The guy can fit any defensive scheme, and has experience on the outside and in the slot. The only reason he'll still be available is because of how stacked the class is at DB. Pick him, and if someone gets injured slide him into the starting role without any worries. Also, as an added bonus, he's pretty good at timing the snap count when blitzing.

Round 3: Jordan Willis, edge, Kansas State

    willis.jpg

A tremendous athlete that's only scratching the surface of his potential. He could be a very solid player in the NFL after a bit of experience and learning from one of the best (Suggs). Even if he doesn't become some world beater the combination of him and Judon will give the team a solid passrush that doesn't depend on focusing on a single side.

Round 3 (comp): Isaac Asiata, G, Utah

    USATSI_8174057_168383553_lowres.jpg?w=62

A powerful interior lineman that plays with a nasty streak a mile wide, and puts that into every single play. He reminds me a bit of Yanda in terms of his playstyle (though Yanda is of course on a different level). He fits what the Ravens are looking for out of interior linemen very well and can really help open up interior running lanes.

Round 4: Tanzel Smart, DT, Tulane

    8T8A2378.jpg

He'll get overlooked due to his measurables, but he's a solid all around player. He plays stronger than his size suggests, has very good hand movements, and like his name suggests he's got a very high football IQ. He won't be an every down DT, and will probably be on the field more for passing situations. But he's another overlooked, small school player that could shine in the Ravens' defense.

Round 5: Tarik Cohen, RB, North Carolina A&T

He's the type of guy that just makes great things happen in the open field, and has enough top end speed to make any play into a touchdown. At the NFL level he won't be taking too many handoffs, but he's perfect for a hybrid receiving back and slot receiver. Also he has experience returning the ball. He'll be used in the same way as guys like Sproles and Dion Lewis.

Round 6: Xavier Woods, SS, Louisiana Tech

A solid tackler to add to special teams.

Walter Football updated his mock and he has us going

    RD1: Derek Barnett

    RD2: Dion Dawkins

    RD3: Carroll Phillips

    RD3: ArDarius Stewart

    RD4: Elijah Qualls

Walter still has Quincy Wilson available in the second and we pass up on him for Dawkins... I wouldn't pick up Phillips since we grabbed Barnett in the first.

Aside from Phillips and Qualis I'd be okay with this draft. Great edge rusher, mauler guard, and a very good chain moving WR. The problem with Qualis is that we already have our plan B to replacing Williams in Pierce. I think we could get a better DT in the fourth, someone that's decent against the rush and has some upside against the pass.

i dont think you can get a 2nd round pick from a team to move up to the 16th spot if im honest

While I wouldn't bet on it, I do think its possible. There are teams that either just missed the playoffs or  got eliminated early that might give up a late 2nd round pick for a guy they think can get them over the hump. Cunningham, Ross, Lattimore, or one of the QBs could be seen as valuable enough for that kind of trade up.

Understandable, the tape doesn't show a guy who is worth taking at 16 but I'll put it this way... and we'll never know for sure, but I truly believe if he were to stay at school one more year that he would be a top 10 talent coming out, meaning that he hasn't even scratched the surface and I think long term he could be the 2nd or 3rd best front seven defender in this class.

I can see that as a possibility. Due to his potential I could even take him at 16 in a less stacked draft class. It's just that with this specific class, he'll be there in the twenties, and we can get an extra pick out of it. Though I wouldn't hate taking him at 16. i just think there's ways to get more value.

Tj watt crushed it. His broad jump matched Myles Garrett, 40 was .05 seconds longer, 6.79 on the 3 cone, the question was always his athleticism but he seems to have cleared up some questions, I would strongly consider him at 16, I've always thought he should be considered at 16 but he didn't show obvious explosion on film which made me pause, but his film is great and he showed better than expected combine results which leads me to believe he's got room to become not only a better player but a more dangerous athlete.

I just cant get over reddicks combine though, I knew he would crush it but my god he blew it out the water

I wouldn't take Watt at 16, but if we could trade back I'd be okay with taking him in the mid twenties.

this class is so deep that you can get guys with great length and cover skills in the 2nd or even 3rd round this year, humphrey i still worry about in man coverage but he flipped his hips and showed decent ball skills in the drills today - i dont think it's a given we take a corner at 16 because of how deep this class looks, and the only thing this combine is doing is making the class look even better and deeper

The depth is why I'm somewhat against grabbing a corner in the first. I can't complain if we do since he probably will be a different maker, but we're more likely to find good corners throughout the draft than we are going to find a great edge rusher, WR, or lineman.

Not sure Flacco has really shown any preference for bigger guys over smaller guys. One could argue that SSS and Derrick Mason were two of his favourite targets over the years. Obviously he has done well with Pitta and Boldin too who are bigger. And decent with guys like Mike Wallace and Torrey Smith. In all of that I would say it seems like his best fit are reliable guys who catch and give him a target--you could argue all are pretty good route runners too...SSS, Mason, Boldin and Pitta all do that just in different ways, some got more separation than others, some had more speed and size, etc. but to me the most important thing is a reliable target who can catch it. Cooper Kup, Zay Jones, Corey Davis, JuJu, Ross are all guys I see working well. I do believe our drafting of has has led to us valuing Height-weight-speed guys more than we should and not accounting enough for catching, reliability, and route running. I hope we shift that this year as we have that already with Perriman and Wallace

Zay Jones is actually the WR I'd want the most in this draft because he seems to be Mr. Reliable in terms of route running and making the catch.
