  1. Yeah, based on all of his production last year and that fact that Harbs thinks he is a nice kid. Works for me.
  2. Would've thought Allen at that spot. Interior pass rusher, and plenty of CB quality available later. Oh well. At least he didn't draft Cam Robinson.
  3. That's awesome. Ozzie needs to replace the holes left by the departures of Tommy Streeter and Aaron Mellette.
  4. We need playmakers in the early rounds. We need to come away with starters and potential pro-bowl talents at WR and EDGE in the first two rounds. We then need a C and CB in the 3rd. I feel confident that, between Urschel, Jensen, Wellesly, Nembot and a 4th/5th-rounder, we can backfill G/T (depending on where Lewis is most comfortable), not to mention a pre-camp vet signing possibility.
  5. There is some depth at Edge and WR, but it will be depleted after the second round. I think the Ravens need to take BPA from those two positions in the first two rounds, and then look CB, C, OG, and/or ILB over rounds 3-4. I think Ozzie will be more tempted than ever to trade back from #16 to gain an extra pick in the first 3 rounds. The only exception would be if Allen, Lattimore, Adams, Hooker or Fournette fell to #16.
  6. That would be a very Browns thing to do. If you want to have some fun wasting time and playing GM, check this draft simulator out: http://fanspeak.com/ontheclock/ Using several different mock sources (for whatever that's worth), Thomas, Fournette or Lattimore frequently fall to #16, but no top WRs. Still plenty of CB and OL depth in the 2nd and 3rd, but EDGE guys become scarce. Useless, I know, but still fun to speculate..
  7. I think Lattimore, Davis, Williams, and Barnett could likely be gone by the time we pick, though an early run on QBs or OL could change that. There is a chance Fournette could slide to them, but that is unlikely. I think the Ravens trade of Jernigan indicates they think there are 1st-round equivalent players available as late as #75 overall. If they can trade back and net another pick in that range, I think they take it. I could see the Texans moving up to grab a QB.
  8. If Barnett somehow fell to us at #16, he's a no-brainer pick. You can't dismiss his production over several years in the SEC.
  9. Well, can't sign anyone now until after May 19th without losing a comp pick, but the $1M from the Jernigan trade would cover a vet minimum deal for Mangold.
  10. So the Ravens traded a former second-rounder, the only productive interior pass-rusher, one of the few guys with attitude, in his contract year, in order to save $1M and move up 24 spots in the third round? I don't get it. This doesn't help the team win in 2017, which had better happen or Harbs and maybe even Ozzie will be gone. For the $1M, you can't sign a player even half as productive. If they were worried about re-signing him next year, let another team overpay and receive a probable 3rd round comp pick. Eagles got a good deal here.
  11. I don't think they have to admit that we wont be able to afford him next year. It is a given. If we didn't pay BWill than it would be a possibility, but its not going to happen, I would take a 3rd for him but I don't think there is a team that would give that up. I agree I think we should keep him this year and I also think he is going to have a banner year. But if there is any tiny tiny tiny hope of us keeping him, a "beast" year would certainly put him out of reach. We're projected to have $46M in cap space next year, so we ought to be able to figure out how to keep Jernigan if he were a priority.
  12. Don't trade him for less than a 2nd-rounder (his draft position). Get another season of affordable performance at the position (with some interior pass rush upside). If we choose not to overpay to keep him next year and he lands a big contract, we may get a 3rd-round comp pick.
  13. We signed the best safety and DT in free agency, and a solid (read average but healthy and available) CB, and a very good backup QB. I'd call that an excellent haul for a team that started free agency near the bottom of the league in cap space. Ozzie will find playmakers in the first 3 rounds at WR, Edge, and CB. Later rounds may find a serviceable OL to compete with the guys already on the roster. That leaves ILB and FB as gaps. The former better be filled by Correa, McClellan or Onwuasor (kid is a baller). The latter can be had as a cheap FA, 4th-6th round pick, or Nick Boyle. I like the way the FO filled out the roster in free agency in general. Still have some cap to pounce on roster purges with upside after mid-May, when we no longer lose a comp pick.
  14. I hope we don't regret paying Claiborne the extra $2M he was after. Carr may be more available and experienced (aka old), but that only matters if he is effective while he's on the field. After all, the FO had no trouble signing Woodhead, who is injured, injury prone, and the wrong side of 30.
  15. He's grabbing a TE in each of the first three rounds...book it.
  16. If we were running a pure zone-stretch blocking scheme, as we intended when Urschel was drafted, I agree. I think we are looking to add more power blocking schemes, which would require some bigger, more powerful dudes.
  17. Urschel is no better than Zuttah physically. Jensen is a very good run blocker, but has trouble getting to the second level and is barely average in pass protection. Our other options are Skura (great C at Duke, but a lighter build in the mold of Zuttah), Pughsley (have no idea) or possibly Wesley (big dude right there). Keep an eye on Nembot at RT. Dude is a tremendous athlete.
  18. Zuttah will be a nice fit in Shanahan's pure zone blocking scheme. I don't expect Urschel to be his replacement; he's of the same build with the same issues getting pushed back. Jensen is a possibility, maybe Mangold, or Ozzie is banking on a 3rd-4th rounder in a weak OL draft plugging in as a starter.
  19. Ozzie will nab Claiborne or Carr, and may take a flier at Mangold. Beyond that, he would likely have to cut some more payroll (perhaps Watson and Zuttah) to do much else, I think. That would have us entering the draft with our biggest needs (in some kind of order) as follows: WR, OLB, CB, ILB, OG/RT At #16 I like Davis, Williams, Bennett, or McKinley (CBs after Lattimore are kinda bunched up, esp. with Jones' injury). In the second round, I think we'll have a shot at CBs Tankersley or Witherspoon, WR Smith-Schuster, Kupp, Godwin, or Say Jones, OLBs Watt or Anderson, or OL Elflein, Dawkins, or Feeney (though I think we could wait to the third round on OL).
  20. Reality is we need at least another veteran and 2 rookie CBs
  21. Well the obvious answer for Ozzie is #2. When in doubt. add another tight end.
  22. Guy was a nice plug in at DE. We might find some bargains to shore up our front 7 here in the second round of FA. ILB - Zach Brown, Gerald Hodges, D'Qwell Jackson, and Mike Minter all compare favorably to the "top guy" Donta Hightower, and should be far cheaper to acquire (maybe Hoodie sees the same thing, which is why he hasn't re-signed his own guy yet). Of the bunch, I like Hodges the best as he can actually cover guys coming out of the backfield and rush the passer. DL - Tyson Alualu, Leger Douzable, Bennie Logan, Chris Long, Tony McDaniel, Jared Odrick, and Devin Taylor offer equal or greater productivity to what we lost in Guy. Edge - Connor Barwin, Armonty Bryant, Dwight Freeney, Jarvis Jones, Paul Kruger (lol), Alex Okafor, Eric Walden (11 sacks!), and Demarcus Ware - Someone from this bunch might be worth kicking the tires on as either a multi-down edge setter or a situational pass-rusher on a short-term deal.
  23. Not sure he'll meet the criteria (or Ducasse, for that matter). Ozzie knowingly gave up our comp position by signing T Jeff (makes sense) and Danny Woodhead (not so much). Surprised no one has kicked the tires on Aiken. He may be back, if he can get over his frustration over lack of targets last year.
  24. Glad we have B-Will, but at nearly $11M/yr, that could've covered a FA CB and ILB or OL. Pierce is actually more explosive and powerful in the middle than B-Will.
  25. You can bet if Pitta's salary restructuring includes significant incentives, as it did last year, his good buddy Joe will do whatever he can to help him earn those incentives...perhaps at the expense of the growth of other receivers and maybe even negatively impacting the outcome of the game.
