The league and the players union need to, together, take a look at two things that are negatively impacting the quality of the game; injuries and penalties. I wonder if there is a correlation between the slew of injuries (especially achilles and knees) to the pro-turf composition, lack of collegiate-style braces, "strike zone" rules, and constrained offseason workout programs. As for penalties, are the refs too old and slow, the rulebook too dense and unenforceable, and does the collective bargaining cap on offseason activities mean that the players have less skill and discipline? Either way, the game is becoming borderline unwatchable and something should be done.
