  1. I doubt he'd get many yards after contact. He's kinda old.
  2. Yeah, I know. But I can't think for another reason why veteran QB like Flacco consistently fails to audible running plays so they won't run head first into defenders on the edges. Maybe he's not big friends with West and tries to hand out some punishment for him? What do u think? Not well-blocked, maybe? Not a great scheme, perhaps? In a zone blocking scheme, your choices are basically flow left or flow right, and directing which hole to send the FB through (if one is in). The blocking matchups are dependent on the defensive formation and their first movement. Trestman did remove the outside zone stretch play last year from Kubiak's scheme, so that may limit things a bit. As for audibles, I think I've seen Flacco audible only a few times this year. That tells me he's either not permitted or not capable of doing so. Either way, not a good testament to a 9-year vet and SB MVP.
  3. A great team win and a season-saver for sure. The defense was really impressive. Our biggest weakness right now is on offense, which looked sub-par against a Steelers defense that is one of the worst in the league. Something is broken with the fit of the offensive scheme, the blocking scheme, the formations, and the play calling. Oh, and Joe is still not right. For example, in the first quarter, we were running the ball well, got to 3rd and 2, and put Joe in the shotgun. Why? It completely removed the threat of a run and took away play action. The result? Another failed 3rd down conversion. This offense can't convert and can't score TDs in the red zone, and I'm not sure what can be fixed without a complete overhaul.
  4. For the Ravens, the season is really on the line here. Pretty much have to run the table in the division to have a shot at getting in. If the offense in particular looks as lost as it has the last two seasons, we can write off another season before Turkey Day. I really hope Marty can find an answer, and get Joe back on track. Let's Go Ravens!!
  5. For some reason, not feeling the same sense of urgency around this rivalry game as in years' past. Not sure why. Maybe its because the Ravens are down (though they have dominated the series the last 5 years), there is little media hype, or the players aren't calling one another out. Perhaps Sizz, Yanda, Ben and Harrison are the only ones left who recall what these games used to be - physically and emotionally draining. In any event, I hope the Ravens come to play. This will define the season.
  6. Trying to think of a playmaker drafted in the last five years. Mosley may emerge as one with his improved coverage skills, but I have to go back to 2011 when we drafted Jimmy Smith (good in coverage when healthy but not an INT guy), Torrey Smith (master of the PI play, now with San Fran) and McPhee (late pass rush emergence, now with the Bears). The Ravens have had to rely on mid-tier, end-of-career FAs to plug the gap (SSS, Jacoby Jones, Wallace, Weddle, Doom, Foster in 2014). It's no wonder these guys are getting cut down by injuries; they are all well into their 30s.
  7. We are lucky to have the perfect Captain steering the ship in John Harbaugh. We just need patience! He can only do so much with what's been provided him. Even the great ones have to have the horses and the FO has failed to deliver in that dept. agreed. time to point the finger at the front office The FO didn't make him throw off his back foot, overthrow guys, or trip over his own feet. Joe has regressed in his mechanics and decision-making since Kubiak left. You can say he doesn't have all-pro players around him at every position, but no QB does. The only legitimate excuse I can think of is the offensive scheme and coaching, both of which ultimately fall on Harbs.
  8. Wonder if Hester is cut over the BYE. He's been a liability. Might as well throw Camp back there.
  9. I saw Joe fall twice.... He tripped over his Zuttah because he was being drilled into the backfield the entire game. I guess Joe is going to have to be in shotgun the rest of the year as I don't se Jeremy improving. Do you? Joe fell three times. Twice while Zuttah was on roller skates, and the third he tripped over his own feet because he saw Lewis blocking an edge rusher who was getting close. Zuttah's been aspirationally average since they signed him, but the panic flop was on Joe.
  10. Ozzie drafts high character guys, and Harbs ensures they always play hard, but they are like a washing machine - all thrust, no vector. Aside from Kubiak, this team has not established a clear identity. They continue to wallow in mediocrity. This team needs a new, clear approach from top to bottom.
  11. Did you pick up a couple of O-Linemen while you were there? They are on the aisle next to the frozen meats.
  12. I admire your optimism, but I have no rational reason to back it. I think Flacco is regressing, and losing his confidence in the process. He may finally throw for 4,000 yes this year (if he survives), but he will have the lowest QBR of any QB ever to do so. At this rate, his turnovers may exceed his TDs.
  13. Webb looked absent today again, and got outrun on the first touchdown pass. Sad.
  14. This team might be good enough to beat the Browns and steal one more by surprising a team who overlooks them. Looks like 5-11 again. Checking 2017 mock drafts in October is not a good place to be as a Ravens fan.
  15. This offense is terrible. Makes look back with fondness on the Cam Cameron years.
  16. It's okay. We lost to a clearly better team. They are the Jets. Consider that.
  17. I think this is a must win, as the Ravens best and perhaps only shot is winning the division since the AFCN looks to be unusually down. I can't count on the Bungles staying down, and Ben may only miss a few games. Get a conference win against the Jets, use the Bye to get everyone healthy and get this offense re-oriented, and come out in the second half as a new team.
  18. Need the W bad this week, and will likely need to win the division to make the playoffs. Both are very do-able, especially as many of these injured guys should return in the second half and the offense will (hopefully) gel. If not, we'll need some high draft picks to replace the aging vets, most of whom are our playmakers and who have been most prone to injury recently. We also need a complete overhaul on the offensive scheme as this has been a horrible mash-up of a run-oriented, play action passing, zone blocking Kubiak system with Trestman's (and Marty's) west-coast, dink and dunk, pass-intensive, shotgun-oriented system. There is no consistent identity, from the blocking schemes to the formations to the routes to the play calls.
  19. This offensive scheme is a mess. It was an attempt by Trestman to adopt Kubiak's scheme to his own west coast, east-west, dink-and-dunk, pass-happy offense. In the process, he removed some of the key elements that made it a success, like a commitment to the run, having the QB under center, sliding protections, and play action passing. The result is a compromised offense without an identity and one that is fundamentally flawed. Marty, a west-coast guy like Trestman, is doing his best to call the correct plays from a playbook essentially written in pig latin. It's not a question of QB, receivers, or O-Line. The issue starts with the entire approach to the offense.
  20. When he's successful, our phones will be the ones operating us!
  21. You can have the most explosive running back in NFL history, if you don't have an O-line that can create holes and running lanes for him... But this line, banged up as it is, proved they can open up lanes for the running game when we commit to the run, and run out of any formation other than shotgun. Trestman chose not to run, and Marty largely abandoned it after the first half last week.
  22. A shoulder injury may help explain why some of Joe's throws were way off target in the 4th Qtr. Marty has to be smarter with his formations and play calling if he's going to keep Joe (orly Mallett) upright the rest of the season since it would take HOF players at each position on the line to effectively pass protect this scheme. Something's gotta give here.
  23. Here's what I noticed. On the pass play, even though Joe got the pass off, the Giants were able to bring pressure from the outside rushing only 4 by lining up their DE's especially wide and getting a straighter path to the QB because Joe was in the gun. Just so happened Jensen was able to get out and help Hurst. There were many more example. The run play was assisted in its success by having the QB start under center and running north/south - no pitch outs or handoffs from the shotgun. After a few runs like that, Joe could bootleg with play action and have 5 seconds to find receivers who would find it much easier to get open as DBs and LBs would be cheating up and looking in the backfield for West. For no reason whatsoever, the Ravens nearly abandoned this midway through the second quarter in a close game but with a lead and momentum. Clearly our makeshift O-Line was built to run the rock!
  24. Webb played all 87 defensive snaps and made 2 tackles, something is wrong but Harbaugh gives him a pass. Maybe he's afraid of sticking his nose in a play after all of his injuries; he is undersized for a safety.
  25. Maybe Harbs needs to come to the hard realization that Billick came to - sometimes you just have to be prepared to win ugly, even if that means taking 3 points instead of being aggressive with an offense that can't convert (BTW, aside from penalty-assists, I think we are 0-20 in our last 3rd and long situations).
