  1. Defense provides offense 4 turnovers, holds top scoring offense to 20 points, and yet people complain about Pees? Are you serious?!

@AZRaven I'd agree on some of the playcalling. Definitely questionable at times.

    3. BmoreBird22

      BmoreBird22

DVOA has the Ravens with the 13th best pass defense. Takes into account down and distance, score, and opponent strength. Just putting that out there.

    4. BmoreBird22

      BmoreBird22

Also, Ravens have the best passer rating allowed in the red zone at 33.3. Next closest? Giants at 73.4

  2. Maybe it's good that many of you are in a frantic state. Best to go into the season with low expectations and get your mind blown away if we're awesome!

A lot of the highly acclaimed 1st round players also have an injury bug. Even Calvin Johnson gets injured. Secondly, Brown doesn't need to be a #1 receiver. The Ravens don't need to be a top 10 offense. They just need to have a fluid offense. Rather have a dominate defense and a scoring/game managing offense than vice versa.

    3. xxDarby

      xxDarby

so basically you would be ok with 2 number 2 WRs in the future because that's what it looks like

    4. Alaska Alaska!

      Alaska Alaska!

Maybe we just can't develop #1 receivers, which is why we end up bringing in vet WR (who end up being the #1). But you know what? That formula has worked for us in the past. If anything, I'm more concerned about RB than a receiver.

  4. Blame Pees huh? You think Rex would do better? Pagano? Wade? We don't have the personnel to even press a sandwich together. The coach can only do so much. Ozzie is the only one who can fix that secondary.

Exactly! And we had Cam! Exact same situation.

    3. Ravenslifer

      Ravenslifer

@redrum52 we've spent plenty of picks on the secondary. From 09-14 we've had 18 draft picks first 3 rounds not including the comp for Gilmore. We've spent 2 first rounders and 2 3rd rounders on secondary players or 22 percent of all picks. If we include pass rushers, that's another 3 picks, total of over 40 percent of early draft picks on pass defense. As far as offense, from 2008 until now we ranked 11th, 9th, 16th, 12th, 10th, 25th, and are currently 6th in offense this...

This defense will not improve until we see a change in the coaching philosophy. When one scheme isn't working, change it up, disguise it, do something. Not every defense is perfect, but some are just great at masking those weaknesses. That's not Pees' strength.

  5. I wanna see more Crockett Gilmore!

As much as I've defended Pees this season, I will definitely agree with you on that

    4. Ravenslifer

      Ravenslifer

The Seahawks have also allowed fewer PPG in the last 2 seasons than the Ravens have managed in any season since 2011

  7. Y'know what's the worst part of this draft? It's the fact that we're gonna have to deal with all of the disgruntled comments about the draft all the way until the season starts. We get it. You don't like the results of the draft, but how long do you have to keep telling us that? Show us mercy please.

      BmoreBird22

That's because the Ravens didn't envision having Pitta go down or an anemic run game. The offense had carried them through the previous season while the defense was historically bad. The offense only lost Boldin and Birk, so there wasn't a reason to believe that there would be a drop off of epic proportions, but injuries will do that to a unit

    3. ravensdfan

      ravensdfan

Yes injuries will do that when you have zero depth. Sure, there will be a drop off with injuries anyway usually. But not that big if you have any depth at all. Now we get to my point - we still have zero depth.

    4. BmoreBird22

      BmoreBird22

They didn't have great depth on defense, but they dedicated free agency to the offense and the draft to the offense. They didn't just neglect the offense

  8. I have a confession to make. I like the Ravens v. Pats rivalry better than BAL vs. PIT rivalry. BAL vs PIT is physical, but BAL vs NE? It's like Batman vs Joker, Ying and Yang, Cat vs Dog, Light vs Dark, etc

  9. Look at the Broncos and/or Colts forum and you'll find that the fans are saying that their teams are gonna be "one and done" in the postseason. This just goes to show...no matter how good your team is, fans are always ready to write their team off after a loss

@Dom... in their defense, Manning was brought to win a Sb, not have a high season win total. I'd be a little mad as well, considering they're basically going all in, in the short term.

Neither did I, lets keep drafting defense and not see an improvement....hmmm

    4. Ravenslifer

      Ravenslifer

Why? We've been hitting defense very hard for years - the top 3 picks in each of our last 2 drafts, and the top pick in each of our last 5, have been defensive players. Last time we took offensive player round 1 was Oher, last WR round 1 Clayton (10 years ago next draft). At a certain point, the guys we drafted need to play up to expectations, and we need to think about the long-term future of our offense as well.

  14. We always want Joe to prove himself, but for this game, I'm looking for our WRs to show us that they're the real deal! Be better than their corners.

SSMith is the prefect guy to match up on their corner tandum. Aiken,Brown and TSmith can disrupt Browner. I think our TE's have advantages in the second layer

    4. Minionhunter

      Minionhunter

IMHO they don't have to show they are better, just show they are good enough to beat them in a team win. Though, maybe that is showing they are better.... Let's just win the game one play at a time, total focus.

  18. As much as I'm not happy about the possibility of us not making the playoffs, I can still see the positives of having winning seasons despite us being in rebuilding modes with 2013 and 2014. But after reading these boards, I'm truly convinced that a lot of Ravens fans cannot cope with mediocrity. From "let's bench Flacco" to "We need to fire Ozzie and Harbs", for the well being of Ravens fans, I don't think this team can afford to not be champions of something...

We definitely didn't abandon the run. However, I feel like we relied more on the passing game when we should just try to commit more to the run game. Look at our past games. When we have a healthy balance between running the ball and passing, we win. We lose when we break that balance.

    3. rmcjacket23
