  1. Taliaferro got injured trying to tackle the guy who was returning an interception. Is it possible that coaches don't tell those players who have absolutely no problems to make the 53-man roster to avoid stuff like that in exhibition games? Such players should just show the coaches they are there, in the right position, and that they COULD make the takle if it were an official game. But do not risk anything like that in a preseason game!

He did! It seemed to me like LT chased the guy down and took his foot off the gas near the end coz the runner was going out. Jensen if I'm not mistaken just went all in and hurt LT who wasn't expecting that. It's unfortunate when things like this happen

  2. There is really no reason to point out who may be cut once you've already named the locks and bubble players. Especially when you consider that several of those on the cut list will make the practice squad and could feature in the 53 at some point. Remember these guys are fighting for their futures and it's probably crushing to go on the team website and see your name next to 'projected cut'. A little compassion please.

You do have a point there. It must be tough going online and finding your name on the "cut list" or a guys mom or sister being crushed my reading such.

The good news for the next 10 guys that don't make the 53 man roster is that they won't stay on the practice squad for too long.

  3. This is the the time of the year I hate most!

So many players that the Ravens have invested time, money, and picks are on the bubble. Some of them will be gone for little to no compensation.

Ozzie has really stacked up on picks for a few years now. Unfortunately, these few weeks are when we say goodbye and other teams vulture on ravens picks.

Here's to hoping Ozzie gets some value instead of just releasing studs. I'm sure he already has a Plan B C and D and can't wait to see what's in store.

    Ravens all the way!

  4. It may sound crazy but Arthur Brown will be one of the Ravens best defensive players in the next year or two just watch. That guy is smart and very instinctive he has just come on really slow but he is starting to really pick it up.

No it doesn't sound crazy at all....

Brown looked prity good with the limited snaps he got in the 4th quarter. His tackling was good and also showed good instincts diagnosing plays. Hes super fast and can run with any TE or RB on passing plays. I don't know why he's fallen so far down the depth chart.

I hope this is a blessing in disguyse where the Ravens can sign him for cheap on a long term contract. But as things stand he's never gonna stay in Baltimore coz he's never gonna get a chance. I literally watched the forth quarter 3 times. One was just to see Brown. I was impressed and by the end of it I was asking myself..... What am I missing here?

  5. @Bandit666When teams start cutting down their rosters, The Great Oz will rise to the occasion!

I really hope you are right. Because teams don't usually let go of starting caliber CBs. The modern NFL dictates that you have 1- solid cb to mark the opponents best WR. CHECK (J.Smith) 2- quality CB to line up on the other side. (Webb if he comes anywhere near his old self) 3- good nickle CB because teams lineup with 3 WR sets on 60% of plays. IDK if Arrington is up for that task.

We still haven't considered the possibility of injuries as both Webb and J.Smith have missed 50% of their NFL games. Asking Arrington to lineup against opposing ones or twos is a reach. And who's gonna step in for 60 percent of the plays when teams line up with 3wrs?

I believe the best option is to go out on a limb and just get a guy who we like. Give up a late draft pick or a player or 2 that probably wouldn't get much playing time anyways.

I believe the rebuild is complete and it's time to think Deep playoff run or perhaps Super Bowl.

  6. 1- juice looked a little more bulked and threw some really nice blocks during the short time he was in. I'm pleasantly surprised by him.

2- LT also impressed me. A lot actually! He dropped some weight and didn't lose much power but did look s bit quicker. He made a few nice catches. What impressed me the the most was his patience. He's not there yet but really is showing great signs. He's still running to high at times but for the most part he kept his pads low. He only gained 3 yards per carry but was significant in short yard situations and his stats would be better had he ran behind our starting Oline.

    Looking forward to next week...

  7. I really hoped we'd pick up boykins from the Eagles via trade block. I got negged by many here which didn't surprise me at all. Then the steelers robbed the Eagles giving up only a 5th rounder in return for his services. PFF rated him 19th best corner last season and his contract is peanuts for this upcoming year.

I really hope we got it right with Arrington as i still don't understand why we wouldn't bring them both in and fight with webb for 2,3,and 4 spots as cornerbacks. We would have also been prepared for he worst injury crisis. You can never have enough pass rushers and cornerbacks! I hope Ozzie doesn't let another opportunity like that fly by us. Steelers picking Boykin up made it even more bitter. We have 7.5 mil in cap space and can easily free up more if needed.

Tomlin was running up and down the sidelines in their first preseason game yelling I got it right every time he made a play.

  8. All 3 TE impressed me. Solid foundation to build on and mature as a unit. I was a bit concerned for Maxx as he got up a little gimpy after that play. He needs to understand that he's a big tough guy and smaller defenders will regularly go for his legs. Don't jump over someone with another person standing right behind him in the NFL. That was awesome but no more in preseason please. Save those risky plays for the playoffs.

  9. Dear mods and admins....

I appreciate the effort put into adding some spice to baltimoreravens.com with this new theme. It's cool that we are using Ravens colors but in my humble opinion, it's really tough to read grey text from a black background and even harder to read purple from a black background. I appreciate all the effort put in this website and don't mean to sound negative but I'm literally having to zoom in so much and place my phone inches away from my face.

    Thank you,

  10. Bio Larzen No Rookies Shined?!?!!? C'mon youre better than that, Carl Davis was all over the field, he DESTROYED the lesser talent around him. Yes, a lot of his production came against backups but he had good gap control against the starters, stuffed a running play with penetration against the starters and batted down a ball (I think that was against the starters, correct me if I'm wrong). Needless to say that man is going to be a pro bowler with a year of NFL weight training under his belt. I'm stoked about him, Zadarius also made some plays, he set the edge well san's the one run in the third where he let the back bounce outside.

I wouldn't say Carl Davis "destroyed" but he surely showed promise. Flashes of brilliance and flashes of ummmm let's say rookieness lol. Zadarius on the other hand disappointed me only because I had very very high expectations for him. I thought he could be McPhee tomorrow. But now I'm back to earth. He can manhandle anyone but he's still a rookie. He needs to diagnose plays pre snap and attack instead of react. It took McPhee 3 years to get there so I'm not pressuring Smith to do that in his first pre season.

  11. My five thoughts:

    1.) NO INJURIES!

By far the most important takeaway. While the Saints players kept dropping like flies, no injuries on our side - and that's huge.

2.) Slow start for the backups and the secondary

The backup squad haven't exactly grab the chance to showcase themselves... I couldn't name one single backup player from the O who really stood out. Many of them had one or two good moments, but no overall shiner. On the D there were some better performances - like Zach Orr or Carl Davis - but the saints backup and 3rd string O went through our backup and 3rd string D quite efficiently nd sometimes even apparently effortlessly. And that's something to work on - we all know position depth wins championships...

As for the secondary: no turnovers - that's not good. also, they seemed easy to penetrate most of the time - especially the backups. Let's hope the core quartet of the secondary (Jimmy, Webb, Will Hill and Kendrick Lewis) will be available throughout the season, because the depoth didn't exactly prove their cases last night...

3.) Both Schaub and Renner were OK with one ridiculous decision each.

Schaub wasn't half as bad as some of us feared. His bad luck is that still it's his stupid INT is what people are gonna remember... That decision was, indeed, a ridiculous one. But overall he was OK IMHO. Renner also had an OK day - one boneheaded mistake, one great 2-minute drill - and some really good slingshots in between.

4.) The tale of the two-minute drills...

While Renner conducted a great 2-minute drill at the end, our D still seems to carry their 2-minute phobia from last season... Stopping the opponents' 2-minute drills seemed to be a weakness for our O the last season - and yesterday was not a success story either. Seems like this might be an area of serious reconsideration.

5.) I would have really loved to see at least one or two of our rookies really shine - but no luck :(

While not forgetting for a moment that it was the very first real NFL game against a "real" opponent for our rookies, I was still hoping for a standout rookie performance - and I was left unserviced. Many rookies had one or two great moments - like Maxx Williams' catch and YAC gain in the final drive, Tom Nelson's great sideline catch, some of Boyle's blocks, Za'Darius' sack etc... but no real shiner. Let's hope we'll see them getting into the groove as the preseason advances.

Bonus thought: We might be end up missing Jacoby :(

Still not forgetting that it was only the first pre-season game, I couldn't help noticing the distinct lack of kick/punt return yardage. None of the "contestants" helped his case last night. Let's hope at least one of the emerges eventually,l because we will need a productive return game.

I don't understand why all the negs. Though I don't agree with all your points I think your assessment was fair.

I personally wasn't expecting our second unit to run over other teams but I did take away some positives. And I liked that the guys showed some flashes. I am also concerned about our secondary and hope we make one more trade or big pickup as the season nears.

I actualy slept well after the game but sure as hell expect more next game ;)
